WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY Beautiful property, comfortable room and Wellington was very helpful and welcoming. It was a lovely break and we enjoyed meandering around Franschoek. The Grande Provence property is set in picture surrounded by beautiful mountains which had white ice caps on top of them during our stay.

WINE BLENDING Grande Provence offers a variety of unique wine blending experiences for our guests to enjoy. Guests receive three varieties to enable them to blend their own style of wine. A wine Ambassador will guide guests through the process showing how and why certain varieties harmonise better than others. After corking their bottle, guests can then enjoy their own individually blended wine at home; a beautiful memento from the day. Groups larger than 20 guests will be divided into smaller groups and the winning group will each receive a bottle of their wine blend. RICKETY BRIDGE WINERY WELCOME TO RICKETY BRIDGE WINERY Situated 3km from the renowned village of Franschhoek, the food and wine capital of South Africa, the Rickety Bridge Wine Estate nestles against the hillside overlooking vineyards and the majestic Wemmershoek Mountains. It is an excellent base for exploring South Africa’s winelands, while being close to the magnificent Cape beaches and the lively Mother City. The closest airport to Franschhoek is Cape Town International Airport which is a 50-minute drive from Franschhoek. The history of the land dates back to 1694 when Rickety Bridge was originally part of La Provence, one of the first seven French Huguenot farms in Franschhoek. Over the years this property was subdivided, and on 13 May 1797 the current section of land was granted to the widow, Paulina De Villiers. The property changed hands several times and in the 1980s became known as Rickety Bridge due to the old railway sleeper bridge which crossed the Franschhoek River onto the property. Today the property is home to a modern winery, a bistro-style restaurant, luxurious accommodation and a countryside wedding and functions venue.

Staff member was knowledgeable and helpful about the wine and the process of making it from the grapes outside to end product. We did have a wait between different wines, the staff worked hard to keep the area tidy, especially when customers knocked over and broke glasses. Enjoyed our visit here.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY We went to Rickety Bridge for the pizza and vino. We sat inside in the tasting area on the couch with the fireplace, it was very cozy. We were served by Dillon who was very knowledgeable and his service was excellent. The pizza’s were great Rickety Bridge pizza (pulled pork) and the Pepperoni, tasty and good value for money. We drank the Shiraz and Chenin Blanc. Will definitely return again.

DURBANVILLE HILLS WINE IT’S ALL ABOUT THE LOCATION The unique location of Durbanville Hills’ cellar a mere 20 minutes from Cape Town’s city centre, offers not only a spectacular view of Table Mountain and Table Bay, but also an extraordinary terroir that stabilises temperatures and eliminates extremes of heat and cold. Although the Durbanville area is renowned for its SAUVIGNON BLANC that excels under the cool conditions where it is grown mostly on the cool south facing slopes, the range of RED WINES also benefit from the warmer valley outskirts and opposing northern slopes. Durbanville Hills would not have existed without the enthusiasm of the winery’s producers and their faith in the high potential of their high-quality grapes. In the late 1990s seven grape farmers and DISTELL agreed to build a cellar as part of a joint venture to make their own wine. Since the first vintage in 1999, there are nine member farms, all located near the cellar. The member farms are Klein Roosboom (the site of the fresh-water spring that prompted the first farmers to settle in the area), Ongegund, Hillcrest, Maastricht, Morgenster, Bloemendal and Hooggelegen. Another two producers from the farms Welbeloond and De Grendel recently joined the cellar. Such is the heritage of the region that the youngest of these farms, Klein Roosboom, was established in 1714 and the oldest, a mere three years after those established in the Constantia area in 1685. TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM 9 INTERESTING THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN THE SAVE OUR SEAS FOUNDATION SHARK EXHIBIT The Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Exhibit might be best known for its ragged-tooth sharks, but there is much more to it than jaws and teeth! Here are nine things to keep a look out for on your next visit: 1. Yawning sharks Why do sharks "yawn"? Aquarist Leigh de Necker captured these photos of one of our ragged-tooth sharks, Gen, showing off her teeth and we had to know why!

2. Extreme vacuum cleaning Ragged-tooth sharks might be beautiful, but they can make a mess! In the ocean, shark poop and other fishy mess eventually becomes part of the ecosystem again, giving its nutrients to microorganisms that use it to grow and boost the bottom of the food chain. 3. Grumpy rockcod The yellowbelly rockcod in the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Exhibit may seem like the grumpiest fish of them all – but he just likes his space (he’s very good at social distancing)! Rockcods like to have designated “rest spots” where they can keep an eye on their environment, so keep an eye out for the holes that our rockcod digs in the sand – he likes to watch the humans passing the main window.

TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM 4. Schooling vs. shoaling You may not have known this, but “schools” and “shoals” of fish are different things! And you can spot both behaviours in the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Exhibit. Shoaling is a social behaviour where fish stay together for social reasons, often so that they can be near potential mates or help keep a watch out for predators. A “shoal” is not necessarily coordinated, and fish may be swimming in different directions – something you can see our southern mullet and juvenile kob doing after a feed. 5. Snack time The most exciting time of the day for any fish (and many humans) is feeding time. Throughout the day, the smaller predators of the exhibit are drop-fed a combination of fish, squid and redbait from the surface – so if you see a commotion during your visit, this is what you’ve spotted. 6. Crescent moons Cape yellowtail are an iconic local species, both as one of our most well-known marine animals and as sustainable local seafood. They get their name from their iconic yellow, crescent-moon shaped tails – and although they may not look it, they are powerful predators too! 7. Diamond stripes Along the floor of this exhibit, you’ll notice many small, dark grey giant kob scavenging for food, but if you pay close attention, you may also notice a few huge adult kobs (usually on the opposite side of the rocks from wherever the sharks are). 8. Lady humps All the ragged-tooth sharks in the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Exhibit are females, and one unique characteristic of all females in this species are the large humps on their backs (males also have humps, but they are much smaller). 9. Racing bonitos Last, but certainly not least, the striped bonitos of the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Exhibit might not seem like your typical predators, but of all the animals in this exhibit, they are perhaps the most crafty! Ranging from South Africa to Hawaii, striped bonitos team up with young tuna to hunt – the tuna prey on larger fish and the bonitos prey on pretty much everything too small to be of interest to the tuna!

GENERAL TOUR SCHEDULE Currently; RIM has tours that runs as follows; 09h00, 11h00, 13h00 and 15h00. The ferries depart from the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V & A Waterfront. The tour takes 3.5 hours including the ferry trip to and from the Island (Depending on the boat used as they have different travel times). You will disembark at Murray’s Bay Harbour situated on the east coast of the Island and take a short walk to buses that will transport you to all the historical sites around the Island. On the way to the buses, you will pass buildings and a high wall built by prisoners during the 1960s. The buildings were used for family and lawyer visits to prisoners. You will meet your Tour Guide when you have boarded the busses. The prison tour will be conducted by a Robben Island Tour Guide. This is part of our integrated tour model. They are fully conversant and knowledgeable about the Island’s multi-layered 500-year-old history. The tour route includes the graveyard of people who died from leprosy, the Lime Quarry, Robert Sobukwe’s house, the Bluestone quarry, the army and navy bunkers and the Maximum Security Prison where thousands of South Africa’s freedom fighters were incarcerated for years. The tour culminates with a viewing of Nelson Mandela’s cell.
