Danville, VA - There was an obvious buzz of excitement to be felt when walking into the new GoDocs building roughly 36 hours before it’s Grand Opening date. Micah Pacifico, RN and Managing Partner of GoDocs since its’ beginning, was working with Alice Abbott of Alice Abbott Photography (who has helped the crew with professional shots and the decor in the new building) to put the finishing touches where they matter most. Members of the office staff were working diligently to prepare that end of the business for Thursday, October 1st when the doors officially open. And while every person in that office was hard at work, they wore a smile and offered a helpful greeting. What first catches the eye upon walking in the building is without a doubt the atmosphere. Plush couches and recliners sit ready for patients to watch the big screen TV, so they can wait to be seen in comfort. Family photos adorn the entertainment center, and the artwork and decor has been well thought out and hand picked with the sole purpose being to put the patient’s comfort first. The focal point of the room, and an image that speaks volumes about the GoDocs purpose, is a large piece of artwork with a heart in the palm of two hands. This theme doesn’t end in the waiting room. No cold exam rooms will be found in this large building, each one decorated with the same intent as the waiting room-”comfort”. Which is only natural, considering GoDocs was founded with the idea of patients being cared for in the comfort of their own homes. In their eyes, expansion in patient services doesn’t mean that the comfort of home should fall by the wayside. GoDocs Healthcare Center team includes Nurse Practitioners Wendy Rodriguez and Kelli Banner, Leslie Powell, PA and Dr. Neil Lahurd, and will offer general family practice, sick and well care, non surgical joint or back pain procedures, full diagnostic labs, digital X-rays, and more! GoDocs accepts all insurances from Wendy’s existing patients. We also accept many more insurances also..practically every insurance (Private/commercial) that is offered in Virginia! “Do I have to do anything on my end in order to continue to see Wendy at GoDocs?” - No. All existing patient charts have been transferred to GoDocs Healthcare Center and future appointments have already been scheduled. We tried to make the transition as effortless as possible for existing patients. We also made several tasty apple treats. One morning we cut up apples and put them into a crock pot to cook in our classroom. We added cinnamon, sugar, and water to the apples. They smelled so good as they cooked. After naptime, we ate the warm apple sauce from the crock pot. We also made and drank fresh apple juice. We put the entire apple (stems, seeds, and all) into a juicing machine and sweet apple juice poured out of the machine. WOW! These activities were fun and we had several healthy treats!

Keselowski and restarts BY BILL DYER Special to the Piedmont Shopper Not only was it boring, NASCAR again showed its inconsistency when they flagged Brad Keselowski, who was running second in the restart zone, for jumping the restart on Lap 242 in Sunday’s Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Speedway. “It’s an entertainment sport, not a fair sport,” Keselowski said. “But we had a great car. I got the chance to do something for the first time – the first person to ever get penalized for jumping a restart when I didn’t pass anyone, so that’s a new one.” Video of the restart clearly showed Keselowski nudged in front of Greg Biffle, but never gained anything for doing so. From my perspective, it appeared NASCAR was making an example out of Keselowski. But NASCAR said no. “It was clear that he (Keselowski) jumped,” said Sprint Series Director Richard Buck. Drivers have been chomping at the bit for NASCAR to stand firm and get a handle on restarts, and Sunday they flexed their muscle and hit a driver that was a Chase favorite. An extra camera was added last week for the purpose of having a better view of the restart zone. In addition, a senior official was assigned to the area to watch for infractions. “It doesn’t matter whether Keselowski actually completed a pass or not, he violated the rule that the leader has control of the race and the second-place driver can’t restart by accelerating before the leader hits the gas. The leader is the control car. The leader has earned the right to restart the race in the restart zone. “We’re not out to get anybody, but we’re the keeper of the rules and the enforcer of the rules,” Buck added. “All anybody asks for in the garage area is to be treated fairly and we believe we did our job today.” Fairly is an uncommon word in NASCAR’s vocabulary. By gaining nothing on the restart, what’s the reason for penalizing any driver at any time. But like Buck said, NASCAR is the keeper, or better still the supreme ruler of the sport. This latest ruling was on the short side of being ridiculous. Another mistake: Hindsight is always 20/20, but Kevin Harvick’s crew-chief, Rodney Childress, blinked when given the opportunity to pit under caution for fuel late in the race in Sunday’s Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Speedway. Childress explained to Harvick over the radio after he had passed the commitment line that his video monitor malfunctioned causing an unknown delay in his decision making. My question is this? Why did Childress wait until the final second to call Harvick in? Rather than own up to his mistake, Childress explained that data showed Harvick had enough fuel to make it to the finish, or better still the likely culprit was either the crew failing to fill the car completely on his final pit stop or the fuel bladder coming apart. Regardless of the “ifs and buts,” if Harvick was borderline on fuel, Childress was at fault. Period end. Harvick had the dominant car the entire race, and except for any blunder would have won the race rather than run out of fuel with three laps to go. Barring another amazing victory in a must-win situation, Harvick’s remarkable season in defense of his title may end prematurely Sunday at Dover. And where is the blame, which was entirely preventable? Harvick made a mistake two weeks ago by not allowing Jimmie Johnson up the track and a spot at Chicagoland Speedway, and Sunday it was Childress who gambled on fuel and put the entire season on the line for Sunday’s race at Dover. Two hiccups are hard to overcome, and this postseason has seen both driver and crew chief become panic-stricken. Playing it safe with an eye on the big picture would have been a better approach entering The Challenger Round of the Chase Sunday at the Monster Mile. Reva Louise Oliver, age 28, of 3390 Westover Drive, died at her residence on Sunday, September 20, 2015. James (Jim) Wilson Walton, 68, of Rockledge, FL, passed away on September 3, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born in Danville, VA on September 11, 1946 he was the only son of Gideon Wilson Walton and Elizabeth Yeatts Walton who preceded him in death. Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father. Ruth was a founding member of the Bloomfield CT, Federation of Women’s Club as well as the East Lyme Federation of Women’s Club. She was President of American Legion Auxiliary Post 128 in Niantic CT, for several terms. Ruth was the owner of Bloomfield Stenographic Services, where she offered work study programs for Bloomfield High School Students. Ruth will be fondly remembered for her entrepreneurial spirit, her perpetual optimism, her love of teaching others to knit and the stories she passionately shared of her worldly travels. Ruth was married to Richard “Bud” Newton, who predeceased her in December 2014, for 67 years, they resided in Niantic CT for 35 years before moving to Danville in 2006. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Walker (Garland) of Danville VA, Suzanne Brosnan (Robert) of Sarasota FL, and Barbara Newton of New Britain CT, Granddaughter, Christie Van Pelt (Joey), Great Grandson Alexander Van Pelt of Danville VA, and brother in law Arthur Polstein, along with many special nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Maryann Christie Polstein. Jacqueline (Jackie) Inman Motley, age 84 died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Piney Forest Health and Rehabilitation Center after being in declining health for the past several years. Mrs. Motley was born in Pittsylvania County on November 1, 1930, a daughter of the late Henry Washington Inman and Lillian Giles Inman Klein. Mrs. Motley was a member of Stokesland United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #325. She and her husband owned and operated Choice Tours for many years. She loved to travel and was able to travel all over the world and the United States. She and her late husband donated land to the Riverbend Volunteer Fire Department and was active in the department’s beginning stages. Mrs. Motley attended Radford University and married her late husband James (Jimmy) Richard Motley in l951. Mr. Motley died April 27, 2005. Surviving are one daughter; Catherine (Kitty) Adkins of Danville, two grandchildren; Bobby Adkins of Danville and Christy Adkins Steel (Jesse) of New Bern, NC, three great-granddaughters; Lily Catherine, Ella Kate and Caroline Campbell. Born in Leicester, England on October 1, 1921, she was the only child of the late Francis Herbert Barham and Edith Vann Barham. She started school at age 5 and finished at age 14. She worked at Gents Clock Works until the war started. She came to this country as a World War II war bride after falling in love with an American soldier. On June 12, 1945 she married Lester Lee Vest who predeceased her on September 9, 1995. She loved this country as her own, finally becoming an American citizen in 1995. She was housewife & homemaker. She loved listening to classical & symphony music, politics, & writing poetry until her mind failed her. In 2006 she left her home and spent her time between her two daughters in Tennessee and North Carolina. Though she tended to do things later in life, she gave her heart to our Lord and Savior on August 8, 2000. She was of the Baptist faith,

She was born February 1, 1925 in Danville the daughter of Walter Powell and Ada Coleman Powell and had lived her entire life in the Danville area. Mrs. Maitland was retired from Dan River Mills where she worked as a cost accounting clerk at Hylton Hall for over 42 years. She was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church and faithfully served as pianist for over 60 years, and had also attended Kentuck Baptist Church for a number of years. She was married to Eustice Cecil Maitland, who died January 6, 1990. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Lynn Maitland of the residence and her son, Rodney Maitland and wife, Connie of Danville; a sister, Audrey Sorrell of Warren, Mich.; two grandchildren, Angela M. Barrett and husband, Thomas and Adam Maitland and girlfriend, Meghan Belton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Powell, a brotherin-law, Rev. Staley Sorrell and grandsons, Michael Anthony Maitland and Robert Brian Maitland. She was married to the late Edgar Eugene Hilliard who died in September of 1986. Mrs. Hilliard is survived by one daughter Wendy H. McGee of Pelham, NC, one sister Evelene W. Bass, two brothers Herman J. Wilson and Aaron A. Wilson all of Yanceyville, NC, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, two sons Danny and Ronald Hilliard, two brothers and three sisters. Fall foliage and moderate temperatures make the months of September and October ideal months to hit the open road for weekend getaways. Fall road trips rarely take drivers too far away from home, but traveling can still be costly. Fortunately, there are many ways to make road trips more affordable without sacrificing fun. • Explore alternatives to more traditional lodging. If your road trip includes an overnight stay, consider alternatives to traditional lodging. Hotels might stretch your budget, but depending on where you plan to go, you might have some less traditional alternatives. Airbnb.com allows homeowners and even some apartment dwellers to rent their homes and apartments to travelers, and these listings may pale in comparison to rates offered by nearby hotels. If weather permits, look for local campsites and spend your nights sleeping outdoors under the autumn stars. If you prefer hotels, look for deals on sites like Priceline.com or Hotwire.com, which may offer heavy discounts on rooms. • Take steps to conserve fuel. Lodging might prove your biggest expense on a fall road trip, but fuel likely won’t be too far behind. Drivers can cut fuel costs in several ways. Before beginning your trip, take your car in for a tuneup so any issues that might affect fuel efficiency are addressed before you hit the open road. Poorly inflated tires force the engine to work harder and burn more fuel, so make sure tire pressure matches the levels recommended in your owner’s manual before embarking on your trip and even along the way if you feel your car is not running as smoothly as it could be. Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat, and saute the garlic until tender. In a shallow bowl, mix the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, Cheddar cheese, parsley, oregano, pepper, and salt. Cut Chicken Breast into strips (optional). Dip each chicken strip in the garlic butter to coat, then press into the bread crumb mixture. Arrange the coated chicken breasts in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Drizzle with any remaining butter and top with any remaining bread crumb mixture. Bake 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until chicken is no longer pink.
