Mr. Thomas Kent McDowell, Jr. of Vernon Hill, VA passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at his home. He was born in Danville, VA on August 24, 1950 and was 65 years old. He was the son of the late Thomas Kent McDowell, Sr. and the late Dorothy Reaves McDowell and was married to Phyllis Kay McDowell, who survives. He was a member of the County Line Baptist Church and the Java Hunt Club. He was the owner and operator of the Locust Level Excavating, Inc. Mr. Thomas Kent McDowell, Jr. is survived by: His Wife, Phyllis Kay McDowell of Vernon Hill; One Daughter, Melissa McDowell Colwell and husband Gary of South Boston. Three Sons, Gregory Kent McDowell (Melinda) of Nathalie; Brian Dale Tanksley of Danville, VA; Brandon Drew Tanksley and wife, Misty of Halifax. Nine Grandchildren; Gavin Colwell, Garrison Colwell, Chanze McDowell, Conner McDowell, Parker Tanksley, Spencer Tanksley, Hallie Tanksley, Jesse Ingram and Evan Martinez. One Brother, Rev. Julius Lee Clayton
Mr. Julius Lee Clayton, 97, of 3724 Shady Grove Road, Providence, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 2, 2015 after being in declining health for the past three weeks. Mr. Clayton was born in the Leasburg Community of Caswell County on January 20, 1918 a son to the late George Lee Clayton and Leona Moorefield Clayton. He had lived his entire life in Caswell County where he had retired from the Caswell County School System. Mr. Clayton had taught School and served as Principal for Cobb, Dillard and Bartlett Yancey Elementary Schools for 34 years. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday School, a choir member, a member of the United Methodist Men Group and a member of the Cobb Ruritan Club. Mr. Clayton served stateside during World War II as a pilot for U.S. Air Force. On June 29, 1949 he married Anne McDowell Clayton who died on October 12, 2009. Mr. Clayton is survived by one son Bruce M. Clayton & wife Stephanie of Yanceyville, NC, two daughters Lee Anne C. Johnson & husband Steve, Julie C. Underwood & husband Kenneth all of Providence, NC, two sisters Geneva C. Williamson of Yanceyville, NC and Helen C. Somers of Reidsville, NC. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Stuart Clayton & wife Lesley, Jeremy Johnson, Clayton Johnson & wife Jordan & Katie Underwood, one great grandchild Matthew Clayton. He was predeceased by his wife, one brother Elwood Clayton and two sisters Ercell C. Satterfield and Leona C. Cobb. Born March 17, 1904 in Caswell County, NC, he was the son of the late Willie and Callie Williamson. He was married to the late Elsie Harris Williams. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and the last survivor of his generation. Survivors include five daughters, Mary Williams, Gloria Jean Wilson, Sandra Williams and Brenda Williams all of Philadelphia, PA and Paulette Watkins of Danville, VA; three sons, Albert Williams of Philadelphia, PA, Morris Williams and Clifton Ray Williams, both of Danville, VA and a host of other relatives and friends. Furniture prior to being disabled. She was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Gunn was born on May 25, 1958, in Pittsylvania County, VA, to Charlotte Clark and the late Albert McKinnley Johns. He worked at APAC and was a Veteran of the United States Army. Mrs. Jefferson formerly was a member of the Arlington Optimist club in Arlington, VA, while in Arlington she worked as office manager for the federal Government contracted with the US Navy. Pat loved karaoke, reading and loved to work in the garden.
