David was born in Lorain, Ohio on September 17, 1959. He was a hard worker at Goodman Rentals for years. He is survived by his wife Eduina Lugo Perez and daughter Vanessa Gonzalez Lugo. Elizabeth Ignacki, 84, of 1425 Tightsqueeze Road, Chatham, Va., passed from this life Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. She was born July 28, 1931 in New Brunswick, N.J. Mrs. Ignacki is survived by her husband, Stephen B. Ignacki, of the residence. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Danville, Va. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ignacki is survived by her son, Stephen Ignacki and wife, Joanne of Chatham; her daughter, Sharon Bardachino and husband, Jeff of Pittsboro, N.C.; her grandchildren, Bonnie Zuidema, Katie Ignacki, Dana Bardachino and Brianna Bardachino; and her sister Clara Charmello and husband, Michael. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ignacki was predeceased by her sister Joan Thurman and her brother Elvin Saunders. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, with Father Jonathan Goertz officiating. Lindburgh Rodgers, 83, formerly of 1111 Washi n g t o n Street, Danville, Virginia died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Durham VA Medical Center, Durham, NC. Born July 4, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, VA he was the son of the late Walter Rodgers and the late Virginia Deshazor Rodgers. He was married to the late Jemima Thacker Rodgers. He was a veteran of the United States Army. The family will receive friends at the residence of his niece, Rosalyn Scott, 1222 Ringgold Road, Ringgold, VA. Survivors include three sis-

Bertha Leftridge McNeil, 70, of 156 P o w e l l Avenue, Danville, VA died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born March 13, 1945 in Caswell County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Leftridge and the late Clara Henderson Leftridge. She was married to Willie Bobby McNeil, who survives. She was the last of her generation. In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Michele Bullard of Virginia Beach, VA and LaShan Lewis of Capital Heights, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Born December 19, 1921 in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late Jerry and Emma Henderson Pinchback. He was married to Hattie L. Pinchback, who survives. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and the last survivor of his generation. He was retired from Pittsylvania County Public School system where he was the principle of Union Hall Elementary School. In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Warner L. Pinchback, Jr. of Montgomery, AL; one daughter, Cynthia Pinchback Hines of Cincinnati, OH; five step-children, Pastor Sherman Watkins of Hampton, VA, Cheryl Smith of Virginia Beach, VA, Arlene Marble of Norfolk, VA, Perlene McDougald of Danville, VA and Antonio Watkins of Tucson, AZ and a host of other relatives and friends. She was married to the late Wilson Williams, Sr. Survivors include five daughters, Brenda Witcher, Annie Elmore, Shelia Martin (Ed), Cynthia Motley (Henry) and Garnetta Deshazor-Bennett (Bobby), all of Danville, VA; four sons, Wilson Williams (Myrtle), Jr., Thomas Williams, Larry Williams and Clarence Farmer all of Danville, VA; three sisters, Novella Swann and Naomi Harris, both of Danville, VA and Luellen Edmonds of NY; one brother, Willie Pounds (Brenda) of Danville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Johnnie Edd Vaden, Jr., 65, of 872 Valley St., Danville, VA, died, Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born February 17, 1950 in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late John Eddie Vaden and Thelma Scott Vaden. He was married to the late Louise Irvin Vaden. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Survives include two daughters, Vera Vaden and Lisa Glass (Tracy), both of Danville, VA; three sons, Johnnie Vaden, III and Markus Vaden both of Danville, VA and Michael Vaden (Phansa) of Chesapeake, VA; one sister, Ruth Bell of Danville, VA; two brothers, Michael Vaden of Blairs, VA and Anthony Vaden of Danville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Victor Alan Carter, 61, of Blairs, VA died Monday, January 25, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Carter was born in Danville, VA on June 29, 1954, a son of the late Claude Lee “C.L.” Carter, Jr., and Elizabeth Wyatt Carter, who survives. Mr. Carter worked as a Truck Driver for Dan River. Survivors in addition to his mother of Danville, include a brother, Baron Lee Carter, of Greensboro, NC; a niece, Amanda Baalke; and two great-nieces. Memorial donations can be made to the Timberlake Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Mr. Carter.

Dorothy Perkins Johnson
Dorothy Perkins Johnson, age 92, of 100 Windsor Trail, Danville, VA, died on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance and Caswell after a brief illness. Mrs. Johnson was born on October 22, 1923 in Caswell County, NC, to the late A. Mordica Perkins and Matty Virginia Loveless Perkins. Mrs. Johnson lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County, VA and retired from Dan River Mills where she worked in the inspection rooms. On July 18, 1942 she married Marshall Patterson Johnson who preceded her in death on December 30, 2011. She was of the Christian faith. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Sizemore; a granddaughter, Shanon Wilson, and husband, Tommy; two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Spencer Wilson, all of Burlington, NC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, William Perkins and a sister, Margaret Gibson. A Graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Carl Burger officiating. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Johnson’s residence immediately after the service. Annie Lou Stamper Moss, 86, of the Vandola Community went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro, NC after a decline in health for the past two years. Mrs. Moss was born in Alleghany County, NC on February 24, 1929, a daughter of the late Harvey and Betty Stamper. Mrs. Moss worked in the Sample Department of Dan River Mills for 49 years and was a member of Vandola Baptist Church. She was married to the late Irvin Robertson Moss, Sr., who died on February 9, 2002.Survivors include two daughters, Vickie M. Huppert, and husband, Frank; Bonnie M. Collins, and husband, David; three sons, Irvin R. Moss, Jr.; Kenny N. Moss; Chris B. Moss, and wife, Lisa; a brother, Robert Louis Stamper; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held

Bessie Strader Reynolds, beloved wife, mother and grandm o t h e r passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on January 31, 2016. She was born the daughter of the late John Bryant Strader and Jettie Elizabeth Gammon Strader on June 29, 1935 in the Bachelor’s Hall area of Pittsylvania County. Mrs. Reynolds is survived by her loving husband, Rufus W. Reynolds, Sr. whom she was married to for 56 years. She is survived by her son, Wyley Reynolds, Jr. of Ruffin, NC, his wife, Bonnie and grandson, Jonathan; daughter, Elizabeth Liles and her husband, Mark of Palmyra, VA and granddaughters, Rachel and Emily; two sisters, Lila Moss and Louise Hines. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased in death by her brother, William Strader, and sisters, Sadie Still, Laura Still, Beulah Strader, Bertha Eller and Pearl Miller. Mrs. Reynolds lived in Danville and was a member of West Main Baptist Church. She attended Brosville High School and worked many years in the retail furniture business alongside her husband, Rufus. Her strongest passion was her family and she never met a stranger. A private memorial service will honor her life. He was born June 22, 1947 in Charleston, S.C. to the late Violet Hanks Odum and the late Willie Layton Odum, Sr. Mr. Odum is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Ashley Odum. He proudly served his country in the US Army in the Korean conflict. Mr. Odum had worked in upholstery from the age of 14. He loved gospel music and CB radio. In addition to his wife, Mr. Odum is survived by his daughters, Valerie Terry and husband, Melvin of Moss Point, Mississippi, and Sheila Thompson and husband, Russell of Danville; his sons, Kelly Layton Odum, Sr. and wife, Michele of Green Cove Springs, Florida, and Zaccery Ashley of
the residence; his sisters, Janice Goodman and Joan Boyles, both of Danville, and Gwendolyn Spence and husband, Mike of Bedford, Va.; as well as fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Kenneth Ray Nester, Sr., 72, of 232 Jeanette D r i v e , Danville, Va., passed a w a y Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born January 24, 1944 in Danville to Clella Toler Nester and the late James Nester. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maxine Easley Nester. Mr. Nester retired from Masonite (International Paper) following 35 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved golf, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Nester was President of the Pitt. County Hunting Club. He was a member of Blairs Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Nester is survived by his daughters, Karen Hayes and husband, Jeff of Blairs, Va. and April Barts of Sutherlin, Va.; his son, Kenneth Ray Nester, Jr. of Gulfport, Mississippi; his sister, Jean Carter, and husband, Fred of Blairs; his brothers, Owen Nester, Sr. and wife, Kathy of Danville, Earl Nester, Sr. and wife, Ruby of Danville, Donald Nester, Sr. of Blairs, and Jerry Nester and wife, Ellen of Blairs; and his grandchildren, Kiersten Hayes, Kennedy Nester, Cambell Barts, and Taylor Barts. Harvey Lee Ferrell, Sr., 68, of 3070 Tom Fork Rd., Ringgold, Va., passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born February 28, 1947 in Pittsylvania County, Va. to the late Elsie Ferrell. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Murrell Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell worked as a truck driver for both Weaver Wayside for a number of years and Custom Home Delivery in North Carolina for over 10 years. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ferrell is survived by his daughter, Joyce Denise Ferrell and life partner, James Stone of Danville, Va.; his daughter in law Kyna Holland Ferrell of Yanceyville, N.C.; his brother, Simon Dodson and wife, Elizabeth of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his nieces, Cynthia and Linda Williamson, both of Danville; and his brother in law, James Murrell and wife, Kathy of Ringgold; as well as ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. William G. Murray, 70, of Danville, Va. passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County, Reidsville, N.C. He was born December 28, 1945 in Washington, PA to the late Margaret Paluda Murray and the late David W. Murray. Mr. Murray was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Dayak Murray. He proudly served his country in the US Army, stationed in Germany. Mr. Murray worked at Brockway for over 40 years prior to his retirement. He was an avid golfer, loved to cook and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan; he will be remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. Mr. Murray was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Murray is survived by his daughter, Melissa Layne and husband, Anthony of Ringgold, Va.; his brother, Robert Murray of Pittsburgh, PA; his grandson, Zachary Murray Bell; one niece; four nephews; and his granddogs, Sassy, Jackie & Sandy. William A. Butts, Sr.
Mr. William A. Butts, Sr., age 87, of 231 Thrush Street, Danville, VA, died on February 2, 2016 at Piney Forest Health Care, Danville, VA. Mr. Butts was born on December 5, 1928, in Blanch, NC, to the late Clyde Earl Butts and Maude Poteat Dix. He worked as a jailor for the Caswell County Sherriff’s Department and was of the Baptist faith. He was a WWII Veteran who served the U.S. Army in Europe. Most of his life was spent in the Yanceyville, NC and Danville, VA area. Mr. Butts is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Thompson Butts, of the home; daughters, Joyce Phillips and husband Ronnie of Swansboro, NC, Judy Badgett and husband Tommy of Danville, VA; son, William A. Butts, Jr. of Danville; three stepchildren, Terry L. Duncan and girlfriend Theresa Jordan of Danville, VA, Donald Brent Duncan and wife Gina of Providence, NC, and Lorrie Duncan Smith of Danville, VA; nine grandchildren and fourteen Great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Timberlake Baptist Church with Rev. Walter Yancey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home of Judy Badgett, 3078 Joy Circle, Danville, VA. Interment will be private. William “Bill” Lavaille Ferguson, Jr.
William (Bill) Lavaille Ferguson, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2016 in Sarasota, F l o r i d a where he resided for over thirty years. He was born on September 3, 1921 in Danville, VA to Laila and William L. Ferguson. Bill grew up in Danville where he went to school. He married Helen Cardwell before entering the United States Army. Bill served during WW II and returned home as a decorated veteran. He worked in car sales in Danville, VA for over 30 years before retiring with Helen in 1994 to Sarasota. Bill was a member of St. John’s United Methodist church in Sarasota. Through his church, he joined a wood carving group at age 80. Bill had a god given talent for this hobby and created countless treasures of wood carvings for his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, garden-
ing, golf and working with his condominium home owners association. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, and his wife, Helen Cardwell Ferguson. He is survived by his son, Dan (Karen) Ferguson of Sarasota; his son Dave (Bobbie) Ferguson of Madison, Florida; his daughter Billie Judith Caldwell of Danville, VA; and grandchildren Evan Ferguson Potter and Reid Ferguson. A brief memorial service for the family will be held on February 12th in the garden at Faith Lutheran Church in Sarasota. Arrangements entrusted to National Cremation & Burial Society.
