EMAIL Talking To A Wall A female CNN journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Western Wall to pray, twice a day, every day, for a long, long time. So, she went to check it out. She went to the Western Wall and there he was, walking slowly up to the holy site. She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, using a cane and moving very slowly, she approached him for an interview. “Pardon me, sir, I’m Rebecca Smith from CNN. What’s your name?” “Morris Feinberg,” he replied. “Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?” “For about 60 years.” “60 years!?! That’s amazing! What do you pray for?” she asked. “I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and Muslims,” he started. “I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop. I pray for all of our children to grow up safely as responsible adults, and to love their fellow man. And I pray that politicians tell us the truth and put the interests of the people ahead of their own interests.” “Well, now... how do you feel after doing this for 60 some odd years?” Rebecca asked. “Like I’m talking to a dang ol’ wall!”

Susan “Susie” Lewis Blank

Susan “Susie” Lewis Blank of Williamsburg, VA completed her lifes story M a r c h 5,2016 after a sudden cardiac episode at Riverside hospital in Newport News, VA. Her story began April 10, 1965, in Richmond, VA. She is survived by her cat George and husband, Morris Hudgins both of Williamsburg, Va. Her daughter, Christina Blank Harvey and husband Daniel Harvey of La Grange, NC, her grandson Michael F Harvey of La Grange, NC. She is survived by her parents, Curtis R Lewis SR and Janet Lewis of Ringgold, her sisters Trina Elixson and husband Andy, and Robin Kay Duncan, both of Ringgold, and two brothers, Curtis Lewis Jr and wife Patty, of Danville and Christopher James Lewis and wife Theresa of Dryfork. Lastly, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, and symbolically adopted children from all over. She is preceded by her first husband Paul D. Blank and her maternal and paternal grandparents. She loved her family. More than anything, she loved her family. She enjoyed feeding others. Cooking was one of her life long passions. She enjoyed the outdoors. Whether fishing, camping, or simply enjoying the scenery and fresh air. She was skilled at many crafts. Her favorite being crochet. She never met an animal she did not love. As much as she loved people, she loved her pets and animals more. For a time she was active with the DRHS band programs, where she was affectionately known as “Mama Blank.” She loved her band kids as she loved her own. Her family will be celebrating her life at Yorktown Beach in Yorktown VA at 3:00 PM Wednesday March 9th. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, ASPCA, or Heritage Humane Society.

“Why I Am Not Endorsing Gumpbert DeWidgett For President” The Bible gives us some wonderfully clear guidance as to how to choose who we will vote for in any election. For instance, Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Further, when we study Scripture to find the character traits that God expects of those in authority, we find things like honesty (Pro. 20:28) and selflessness (Deu. 17:16-17) and courage (Josh. 1:9) and wisdom (Ecc. 4:13) and self control (Pro. 31:1-4).We also find in Psalm 11:3 that whatever is founded right, including a nation, should always maintain its foundational basis, which for us would be things like the Declaration of Independence (which gives testimony to nature’s God and His law), the Constitution, natural law (as and aid to understanding the Constitution, not to twisting and superceding it) and so on. But this is America of 2016, and we are now much less versed on these principles. So much so, that it might not be too far fetched to see an interview or two like this one. “Hello America, this is Philberto Gonzalica, reporter with KTGBU News. I am out here on the streets doing one-on-one interviews with real Americans, finding out who they intend to vote for, and why. You there! Yes, you, young lady, may I have a moment of your time? Could you please tell us who you

plan to vote for, and why?” “Yeah, like, sure. I am all for Gumpbert DeWidgett, like, totally.” “Dewidgett, you say? Tell me, does it bother you that he has been married four times, is a habitual adulterer, curses like a sailor, and brags about some very questionable behavior?” “Not at all. Like, if he had real character issues or something, that would be different. But I know he doesn’t, because he says that he totally cares about us.” “I see. Well, who did you vote for in the last election?” “Last time I voted for Sally McStruthers. Some of my friends gave me grief because she lies a lot, views herself as above the law, and was an enabler to her abusive, philandering, criminally inclined husband. But, like, she’s a woman, and we women have to stick together.” “I see. Well, tell me, if Dewidgett does not get the nomination, what about Senator Dirtminski?”

“Well, like, yeah. I mean, some people have more than me, after all, and can afford to have more taken from them.” “So, you believe that government ought to use you as the line? More than you have is too much?” “Well, there has to be a logical line drawn, right?” “Yes, yes, I suppose there does. Back to Senator Dewidgett for a second, if I may. What is it that drew you to his candidacy?” “That’s easy, man. He tells it like it is, and that’s exactly what I want!” “Really? Well, in that case, please let me be honest: you have no concept of good government. You are selfish, ill-informed, and really ought to do a lot of homework on things like civics, the Constitution, socialism, and economic principles before you vote.” “Hey! I don’t appreciate that! How dare you!” “You said you liked it when people tell it like it is.”

“The socialist? Like, I would totally be okay with that, because I actually believe in society.”

“Yeah, but, like, I didn’t mean to ME! You just wait, when Dewidgett takes office, he will show all you uppity media types a thing or two, about “But, socialist and society the First Commandment are two different things. Are right of free speech, and the you okay with the idea of the Declaration of Indecision, government taking from some and...” and giving it to others?”

Is Prostate to Blame for Sluggish Bladder?

--DEAR DR. ROACH: I would like your opinion on enlarged prostate. My primary-care doctor sent me for a blood test and said my PSA number was too high, then sent me to a urologist. He said my bladder is not emptying and that I am having urine retention in the bladder. After one week of medication (Rapaflo), I had a catheter inserted for another week. He measured the urine in the bladder, and it was 880 ml. Now he is suggesting surgery. Is he going too fast? What are your thoughts on the procedure and side effects? Will this correct the problem? -- D.G. ANSWER: The bladder is drained via a tube called the urethra, and in men, the urethra runs right through the middle of the prostate. As men get older, the prostate commonly enlarges, and this can cause resistance to flow. The symptoms can range from mildly annoying to complete obstruction. Complete obstruction is an emergency, since the kidneys will fail within a few days of being unable to drain urine at all. But the obstruction does not need to be complete in order to cause kidney damage. It’s the high pressure in the urethra, bladder and ureters (the tubes that allow urine to flow from the kidneys to the bladder) that causes kidney damage. Placing a catheter allows the urine to drain at low pressure if the problem is in the urethra. Normal bladder capacity is between 300-400 ml. At 880 ml, you would experience very abnormal bladder drainage and would be at high risk for ongoing kidney damage. Thus, I completely agree with your urologist that something, probably

surgical, needs to be done quickly. It’s not completely clear to me whether your inability to drain the bladder is due to obstruction from enlarged prostate, even though an elevated PSA suggests that this might be the case. It also is possible that there is something wrong with the nerves that go to or from the bladder. I suspect your urologist has done additional bladder tests to help sort this out. The booklet on the prostate gland discusses enlargement as well as cancer. Readers can obtain a copy by writing: Dr. Roach -- No. 1001W, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803. Enclose a check or money order (no cash) for $4.75 U.S./$6 Canada with the recipient’s printed name and address. Please allow four weeks for delivery. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: I have weaned off Zoloft, and I noticed a swelling of my fingers -- I can’t get my rings on. Do you think it is related? -- E.P. ANSWER: Discontinuing an antidepressant such as sertraline (Zoloft) certainly can cause symptoms. Dizziness, fatigue, muscle aches, anxiety and irritability are common. It happens more frequently if the drug is suddenly stopped versus tapered down over weeks. Paroxitine (Paxil) seems to have the highest incidence of symptoms on stopping. However, I haven’t seen swelling as a result of stopping sertraline. It may be related, but I doubt it. Is it possible that you are consuming more salt? That’s the most common reason for increased fluid in the fingers over a short time. I would see your doctor if it doesn’t go away in a week or so. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Upgrades To Crisis and Suicide Hotline The Veterans Crisis Line is forming a closer bond with the suicide prevention office and mental health services, indicating that the Department of Veterans Affairs is taking seriously its role in reducing veteran suicides. Among the changes: * Veterans will have their calls answered promptly by someone who is experienced. Calls pertaining to non-crisis matters will be diverted to other VA resources, freeing up the crisis responders. * Eighty-eight more staffers are being hired, on top of the 300 already at the crisis line. * Improvements to the phone systems to handle increased demand. As an indication of how much the upgrades are needed, the crisis line sent emergency responders to intervene with veterans in crisis 11,000 times last year. Do the math: That’s over 30 veterans per day. With the online chat and phone text functions, crisis staffers talked to 300,000 veterans last year.

But they can’t do it alone. If you know a veteran who might be in crisis, either now or in the future, become familiar with the information at www. veteranscrisisline.net. You’ll find information on the warning signs of suicide, suicide and crisis resources, and ways you can help. Make your first stop on “The Signs of Crisis” and click on “Identifying.” The best first way to help a veteran who might be suicidal or in crisis is to learn all you can. If you’re a veteran and you need help, call 1-800273-8255 and Press 1 or send a text message to 838255. Or go to the web link above and join a chat group. If you’re not sure whether you’re at risk, take the self-check quiz. There also is support for homeless veterans, and if you’re deaf or hard of hearing. These confidential support services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. (c) 2016 King Features Synd., Inc.

Thurs., March 17 9am-7pm Fri., March 18 9am-7pm(25% off select items) Sat., Sept. 19 9am-3pm(50% off select items) * Here’s your springtime reminder: As you install your window screens to air out the house (or even if you keep them up year-round), doublecheck to make sure they are pet-secure. Cats love a windowsill, and they can fall through and out the window if screens are not secure. If you have a pup, you may want to give it the push test -- it should be able to withstand Fido’s nose jammed against it! * To preserve your manicure in the garden, wear gardening gloves. If you love the feel of dirt in your hands but don’t love dirty nails, simply rake your nails over a bar of soap before you dig in. The soap gets under there, keeping dirt out. Bonus, it’s easier to wash your hands afterward! * “If you use ground chicken or turkey to make lower-fat meatballs, give them some time to firm up by making the meatballs and putting them in the fridge for an hour or so. They hold together much better that way.” -- F.K. in Missouri

* Some tips for working with garlic: To peel cloves, microwave for 10-15 seconds or cover in plastic (in a sandwich baggie or plastic wrap) and crush lightly with a glass bowl or plate. To chop or mince, spray your knife with cooking spray or put a few drops of oil on the clove itself, as this will keep the garlic from sticking to the knife. Finally, go ahead and crush that garlic by turning your knife on its side and pressing down hard. * Add an eraser to your whiteboard marker by gluing a small pompom on the end with a drop of hot glue. Use giftwrap tape to tape a small magnet to the side of the marker, and it’s ready to go up on the fridge with your dry-erase board. Buying a home can be very competitive. A well-maintained property with all of the bells and whistles that today’s buyers demand figures to attract many offers, and buyers who have found their dream homes must be prepared to make an offer that sellers can’t refuse. Standing out in a sea of other potential home buyers is not always so easy, but there are steps buyers can take to ensure their offer is the one sellers ultimately accept. • Get preapproved for a mortgage. Sellers’ patience may wear thin with buyers who are not preapproved for a mortgage when making their offers. Preapproval can speed up the selling process, as buyers won’t need to secure financing afterward. When sellers receive multiple offers on their homes, they are more likely to sell their homes to buyers whose financing is already lined up as opposed to buyers who have to scramble to secure loans. • Establish a strong rapport with the sellers. It’s not uncommon for homeowners to develop emotional attachments to their homes, and buyers should keep that in mind when viewing a home and negotiating their purchase. Sellers won’t want to hear about how ugly a home is or how much money buyers will have to spend to bring the home up to their standards. While buyers must weigh such variables when making their offers, keep it as cordial as possible and avoid any inflammatory remarks during the negotiation process. Sellers may be more likely to accept a lower offer from a buyer they like than a higher offer from someone they don’t like. • Don’t delay an inspection. When a property is drawing significant interest, buyers can set their offers apart from the rest by arranging for a near-immediate inspection. Some buyers may want sellers to give them a couple of weeks to arrange for an inspection, and that may irritate sellers who want to sell their homes as quickly as possible. Have an inspector ready to perform an inspection within days of making your offer. • Include an escalation clause. When making an offer on a home, prospective buyers can include an escalation clause. Such a clause acknowledges that a potential buyer is willing to increase his or her initial offer by a predetermined amount to exceed any bids that are higher than that initial offer. When sellers trigger such clauses, they are often required to show the other offers they received that triggered the escalation clause. Escalation clauses show the sellers you really want the house while keeping potential buyers’ hopes of buying the home alive when the bids are competitive. Prospective home buyers may find themselves in some stiff competition upon finding their dream homes. But a few simple strategies can make their offers stand out and increase their chances of buying their ideal homes.

On Monday, February 8, 2016, eight girls of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area attended a Yoga Class hosted by The Junior Wednesday Club. The class was held at the United Way in the Large Conference Room. A certified Yoga Instructor walked the youth through the steps of the program. Each child was given a healthy eating sheet and a yoga mat. The evening ended with a delicious healthy meal.

Ingredients 4 Tbsp olive oil, divided 8 oz lean ground beef 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes 3 cloves garlic, minced 3 Tbsp chopped fresh basil or 2 tsp dried basil*, plus more for serving 1/2 tsp dried oregano Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese 1 large egg 3 Tbsp fresh flat leaf parsley, chopped, plus more for serving 2 1/2 cups freshly grated mozzarella cheese, divided 3/4 cup freshly, finely grated Parmesan cheese, divided 1/3 cup freshly, finely grated Romano cheese 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper 12 uncooked lasagna noodles Directions Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Drizzle one tablespoon olive oil into a large non-stick fry pan. Heat over medium high heat, crumble ground beef over oil, add chopped onions and cook mixture stirring occasionally and breaking up meat, until browned. Drain fat from beef. Pour beef mixture into a food processor and pulse for about 5 seconds until it is ground into fine pieces. Pour beef mixture back into fry pan and add crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, basil, oregano and 1 tablespoon olive oil and stir. Season sauce with salt and pepper to taste then cover with a lid and simmer over low heat while preparing pasta and cheese mixture. Cook lasagna noodles in a large pot of boiling water along with 1 tsp salt and 2 tablespoon olive oil to al dente according to directions listed on package. Once noodles are cooked, drain and line noodles in a single layer on waxed paper or cookie sheets sprayed lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Prepare cheese mixture (I do this while pasta is cooking) by stirring together ricotta cheese, egg, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper with a fork in a large mixing bowl until well combine. Stir in chopped fresh parsley. Add in 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese and 1/3 cup Romano cheese, stir mixture until well combine. Stir meat sauce and spread 1/3 cup evenly into a 13x9 inch baking dish. Spread 1/4 cup cheese mixture evenly onto each cooked lasagna noodle (it will be a thin layer), then spread 1 heaping tablespoon meat sauce along the top of cheese covered noodle. Roll noodles up jellyroll style and arrange seam side down in baking dish. Cover rolled noodles with remaining meat sauce then sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese evenly over roll-ups. Tent baking dish with foil (don’t allow foil to rest on cheese or it will stick you just want to loosely tent to prevent the cheese from browning) and bake for 35 minutes in preheated oven. Serve warm garnished with chopped fresh basil and parsley. *Along with the basil and oregano, you can also add in a little bit of rosemary, thyme and crushed fennel seeds if desired. with Suzie Bohannon Financial Counselor

Why are you still paying fees? I am totally in favor of getting all I can get for free. I am puzzled by the fact so many people are still paying for things they can get for free. My question is why are you staying at a bank that is charging you fees for services that you do not have to pay for? In my research of bank fees these are just a few of the fees I discovered: • Fee to mail a paper statement instead of opting for an online statement • Fee to speak to a live person • Maintenance fee (A monthly fee that I found for savings and checking accounts) • Excessive activity fee • Inactivity fee If you are paying fees for services at your bank close that account and move to a financial institution that wants your business!
