The IRS decides to audit Grandpa, and summons him to the IRS office. The auditor was not surprised when Grandpa showed up with his attorney. The auditor said, “Well, sir, you have an extravagant lifestyle and no full-time employment, which you explain by saying that you win money gambling. I’m not sure the IRS finds that believable.” “I’m a great gambler, and I can prove it,” says Grandpa. “How about a demonstration?” The auditor thinks for a moment and said, “Okay. Go ahead.” Grandpa says, “I’ll bet you a thousand dollars that I can bite my own eye.” The auditor thinks a moment and says, “It’s a bet.” Grandpa removes his glass eye and bites it. The auditor’s jaw drops. Grandpa says, “Now, I’ll bet you two thousand dollars that I can bite my other eye.” Now the auditor can tell Grandpa isn’t blind, so he takes the bet. Grandpa removes his dentures and bites his good eye. The stunned auditor now realizes he has wagered and lost three grand, with Grandpa’s attorney as a witness. He starts to get nervous. “Want to go double or nothing?” Grandpa asks. “I’ll bet you six thousand dollars that I can stand on one side of your desk, and pee into that wastebasket on the other side, and never get a drop anywhere in between.” The auditor, twice burned, is cautious now, but he looks carefully and decides there’s no way this old guy could possibly manage that stunt, so he agrees again. Grandpa stands beside the desk and unzips his pants, but although he strains mightily, he can’t make the stream reach the wastebasket on the other side, so he ends up urinating all over the auditor’s desk. The auditor leaps with joy, realizing that he has just turned a major loss into a huge win. But Grandpa’s own attorney moans and puts his head in his hands. “Are you okay?” the auditor asks. “Not really,” says the attorney. “This morning, when Grandpa told me he’d been summoned for an audit, he bet me twenty-five thousand dollars that he could come in here and pee all over your desk and that you’d be happy about it!”

Boyd Clifton Heffinger, Sr.

Boyd Clifton Heffinger, Sr., 85 of 136 Bernard Court, Danville, VA went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2016 after many years of declining health. Mr. Heffinger was born in Pittsylvania County on October 30, 1930 a son to the late John Daniel Heffinger and Regina Elliott Heffinger. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville, VA. Mr. Heffinger had retired from Corning Glass with 28 years of service as a press operator. He served for ten years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Boyd was a life time member of the Bass Angler’s Sportsman Society and a member of the American Legion Post 325. He loved the outdoors. Boyd loved to hunt & fish as long as his health permitted. He was of the Baptist faith and the last surviving member of this family. Mr. Heffinger is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Camp Heffinger of the residence, one son, Allen Wayne Heffinger & wife Billie of Danville, VA, twin daughters, Kathy H. Bayes & husband Clay of Cascade, VA & Karen H. Craddock & husband Alan of Danville, VA, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and his loving dog “LiL Misty” whom he loved very much. He was predeceased by one son Boyd Clifton Heffinger, Jr., two brothers & three sisters. Funeral services for Mr. Heffinger will be conducted on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by Pastor Kenny Gunn. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 1097 and the U.S. Marine Corps. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday night from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence, 136 Bernard Court, Danville, VA 24540, off of North Main Street. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Danville Life Saving Crew 202 Christopher Lane Danville, VA 24541 or the Danville Humane Society P.O. Box 3352 Danville, VA 24543. Victor Henry Moon, 88, of 629 Mowbray Arch died, Friday, April 29, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health over the past two years. Mr. Moon was born on May 26, 1927, a son of the late James William Moon, Sr. and Virginia Florence Strange Moon. Mr. Moon retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and was a member of North Main Baptist Church and attended Riveroak Church of God. He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen Poquoson Tribe # 124. He was married to Mavis

Brown Moon who died on March 22, 1997, and then on October 3, 1999, he married Gracie Hensley Willis Moon, who survives of the residence. Survivors also include a son, Danny Lee Moon, and wife Marsha; three stepchildren, Larry Willis, and wife, Betty; Janet W. Jennings; Patricia W. Langley; two sisters, Nera Moon Rowland; Gaynell Moon Haynes, and husband, Garland; two granddaughters, Sasha Moon Newcomb, and husband, Jamie; Sierra Moon Monkelien, and husband, Michael. In addition to his first wife he was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM from Riveroak Church of God conducted by the Rev. Jason Cook. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the church and at the residence at other times. Ronnie MacArthur Holley

MacArthur Holley, 74, of 821 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, VA departed this life Saturday, April 30, 2016 after being in declining health for the past five years. He was a devoted Christian and accepted the promise of eternal life with his lord and savior. Ronnie was born in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County on March 14, 1942, third child of the late Luther Carter Holley and Lalia Stowe Holley. He lived all but 5 years of his life in Pittsylvania County where he farmed until he was employed by W. D, Rowe, Dan River Mills, the former Tamson Chevrolet & Toyota dealership as one of the first Toyota mechanics in Danville. He served with the U.S. Air Force National Guard in Richmond, VA and also the U.S. Army National Guard in Danville, VA. Ronnie later became co-owner of Scarce Muffler Shop on Piney Forest Road where he worked until his retirement. After retiring, he was employed as a Pittsylvania County School Bus driver for ten years. He was a member of Whitmell United Methodist Church where he served the church in numerous capacities. He became a choir member at age 14 and sang bass there for 60 years. Ronnie was a loyal member of the church as long as his health permitted. On December 7, 1962 Ronnie married the love of his life, Linda Cook Holley of the residence. Ronnie is also survived by one daughter, Lisa H. Roberts & Gregory of Danville, VA, one son, Neil Edward Holley & Lisa of Gulfport, MS., two sisters, Esther H. Wood and Sylvia H. Tate both of Danville, VA, one brother, David Luther Holley & Charlotte of Quinton, VA, and two grandchildren Zachary Conner, Eric Roberts & Taylor. A Memorial Service for

Ronnie will be conducted on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Whitmell United Methodist Church by the Reverend Wayne Moore. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service and at other times they will be at the residence, 821 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549. Ronnie worked for UPS and was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church, but he had been attending Osborne Baptist Church in Eden NC. Ronnie was also a member of Bachelors Hall Fire Dept., and Tuscarora Country Club. He lived his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County, VA. He was a graduate of Tunstall High School and attended Danville Community College. He was an avid hunter, and Auburn University diehard fan, and he loved to play golf. On August 8, 2015 he married Nicole Gibbs Curtis, who survives. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by four children, Brookly Morris, Kaydence Morris, Carter Curtis and Bayleigh Grace Curtis, of the residence; and two sisters, Theresa C. Scearce, and her husband Brian, of Midlothian, VA., and Natalie C. Bolt, and her husband Austin, of Danville, VA; paternal grandmother Janie Curtis; maternal grandmother Catherine Davis; and a host of family and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Charles Curtis and his maternal grandfather, Ronald L. Davis. Ronnie will be most remembered by the smile and laughter that he brought to every occasion and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Jayne Dorethea Webb, age 53, died suddenly at her residence on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She was born in Waycross, GA on September 18, 1962, a daughter of the late Joseph Lee Webb and Ruth Louise Wilson Webb. She had been affiliated with the Red Cross as a grant writer. She was of the Christian faith and enjoyed participating in political events. Surviving are her sister; Jo Ann W. Moore (Fred) of Providence, NC, brothers; Allen L. Webb (Carolyn) of Portland, OR and George W. Webb (Tracy) of Durham, NC. Also surviving are three nieces. It was Jayne’s request that there be no funeral service. Tom was born in Lenoir, NC on May 18, 1931 to the late Thomas Andrew Smith and Ora Lee Payne. His grandparents, William and Ora Lee Jenkins raised him. After serving in the Navy in the Korean War, he graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He served his community by working for the Social Security Administration. Tom was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and past member of the Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Eanes Smith of the residence; his two daughters, Gail Ann Smith of Kernersville, North Carolina and Judy Smith Cox of Danville,Virginia; his two grandchildren, Anne Penn Cox of Livingston, Montana and Andrew Jones Cox of Danville, Virginia; two brothers, Robert S. Elizabeth Pollok went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Stratford Rehab Center. She had just celebrated her 105th birthday. Elizabeth was born on her family farm in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County, VA on April 25, 1911. She was the second daughter of Jessie Thomas Tarpley and Joseph Albert Tarpley . She graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School in 1928 and graduated from Longwood College in 1931. She taught first grade at Unity and Sharon Schools for ten years before marrying her husband, Robert Morris Pollok in 1943. Until then she had been a member of Whitmell Methodist Church, but then she was baptized in the Morefield River and became a member of Sharon Baptist Church where she was very active up until the age of 92. She is very passionate about her family and was the main caregiver for her motherin-law, aunts, uncle, father and her husband who died in 1980. She believes God is her Saviour and hard work is admirable and expected of everyone. She was a very outspoken person who believed the earth’s bounty should never be wasted. Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband, Morris, daughter in law, Billie Pollok, and sisters, Garland Johnson, Mary Tarpley, Eleanor Tarpley, Nancy Tarpley and Josephine Rawls. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Bob Pollok and daughter, Mary Helen Collins (husband Carl). She also has three grandchildren, Mary Ryland Johnson (husband Brian), Carrie Touart (husband Patrick), and Robert Pollok (wife Wendy) and 5 great-grandchildren. She loved cooking, farming, and especially gardening. She loved sharing the bounty of her garden with others. She became an avid reader late in life, but her favorite pastime was DANCING! William DeLay Aikins, age 59, of Danville, VA, died April 28, 2016 at his residence. Born on January 30, 1957 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Kaye Anne Aikins and the late William Robert Aikins. In addition to his mother, DeLay is also survived by his siblings, William Robert Aikins II, John William Davis Aikins, Pamela Aikins Pierce and husband, Bill; and nephews, Billy Aikins, Skip Aikins, David Pierce, Madison Pierce, Logan Pierce, and Ashton Pierce. DeLay was a graduate of Blue Ridge High School and attended the University of Mississippi. He was a very compassionate son and brother and had many friends throughout his lifetime. Arnold George Allocca, Sr., 92 passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Park Summit Senior L i v i n g Community in Coral Springs, Florida. At the age of six months his family returned to the US and resided in New Hyde Park, NY where he was educated and owned an insurance brokerage firm until his retirement. Richard Ewing, blessed with 94 years here, traveled on to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 24, 2016 after experiencing a month of declining health. Stuart’s devotion to his family and strong faith in his Lord, Jesus Christ, blessed him with many years of beautiful life. Stuart was the third child of six born to the late Kim and Scott Ewing of Washington County, Virginia on November 28,1921. Stuart spent much of his formative years working on the farm with his family to help survive during the Great Depression. As a youth, Stuart enjoyed sports such as roller- skating, swimming and dancing. Stuart served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a D-Day survivor and veteran along with spending two years participating in several battles in the European war theater. Stuart participated in such notable battles as the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhineland. Soon after returning home from the war, Stuart and his wife, Ann, settled in Alexandria, Virginia as Stuart worked as the owner and operator of his paint contractor business, Ewing Decorators, for over 20 years before returning to Danville, Virginia in 1971. Stuart was enormously blessed with a very loving family including his in-laws and children. He married the love of his life, Ann Cumbo Ewing, on December 4,1942 in Danville, Virginia. Stuart and Ann were happily married for over 68 years before she passed away in August 2011. Stuart and Ann’s marriage were blessed with three children, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Stuart was a loyal and dedicated husband and father as he faithfully served his family as unto the Lord. Stuart received Jesus Christ as His Savior and Lord in 1969. From that moment forward Stuart followed the Lord with courageous faith. Stuart was a deacon and charter member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church, now known as White Oak Worship Center. Stuart was an integral part of the early formation of this church fellowship and also served as a licensed lay minister. For many years, Stuart served as the Monday evening prayer service leader where he had the privilege

to pray for many people in the Name of Jesus. Stuart was distinctively known as a man of prayer and faith as He personally survived several health issues over his many years including throat cancer in 1975. Stuart also served as the maintenance director at Full Gospel Fellowship Church for over 20 years until his retirement. Stuart’s relationship with the Lord was the most important thing in his life and this was very evident within the way he approached his family, church family and community. Stuart is survived by his three children: Theresa Ewing Bruce and her husband Don; Roger Ewing and his wife Garnie; Shelia Ewing isom and her husband Garry. Stuart is also survived by three grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Michelle Sizer; Lee Ewing and wife Tracey with children Anna and Luke; Lindsey Davis and husband Jamie with children Tensley and soon to be born, Emmie. Stuart is preceded in death by his parents as well as four sisters and one brother. His siblings were: Bertha Ewing Goble, Nina Ewing Payne, Frances Ewing Williamson, Lillian Ewing Dillard and James Hurbert Ewing. All Funeral services for Stuart Richard Ewing will be at White Oak Worship Center, Route 29 North in Blairs, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 27,2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, April 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. Stuart’s children: Pastor Roger Ewing and Dr. Shelia Ewing Isom will officiate the service. The family will also receive friends at the residence of Theresa and Don Bruce located at 700 Harper Road in Dry Fork, Virginia. Swicegood Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Ewing family.

Virginia Frances Hardesty, 84 of Oakland Park, FL passed a w a y peacefully April 20, 2016. Born in Lenoir, NC on August 13, 1931. She retired from Allstate Insurance Co. and faithfully served as secretary at Twin Lakes Baptist Church for over thirty years. She is survived by her loving children, Michael (Linda) Carter, Gail (Charo Rios) Carter, Bob (Christine) Carter, Stephanie King; sister, Shelby (Wayne) Bradshaw; sister-in-law, Bettie Prestwood; grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah, Sierra; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Hardesty was predeceased by her first husband, Bob Carter and second husband, David Hardesty. Graveside services will be held in Highland Burial Park on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 1:00 p .m.
