Mr. Campbell was retired from the University of Alabama. In addition to serving as a professor at Alabama, he held several other positions at various schools during his career as an educator, including high schools in Halifax, Charlottesville, and Norfolk, as well as Tennessee Technological University, Radford College, Mississippi State College for Women, and Virginia State University. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM from Unity Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. John Losee. Rebecca Green, 96, of Dry Fork, VA died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Brookdale Abingdon Place in Danville. She was the daughter of Edgar Green and Bertha Frith Green. She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church and a retiree from Dan River Mills. As the last family member of her generation, she was pre-deceased by four brothers, four sisters and their spouses: James Green (Thelma), Odessa Green, Brooks Green (Edith), Julius Green (Thelma),Ben Green (Lula), Lessie Green Mills (Ress), Hannah Green Daniel (Dick), Bertha Virginia Green. Connie Marie Walden, 58, of 173 Long Circle, Danville, VA, died Monday, A u g u s t 10, 2015 at Moses Cone Select Specialty Hospital after a decline in her health for one year. Born October 11, 1956 in Camp Lejeune, NC, she was the daughter of the late Homer Patrick Walden and Barbara Jean Wilson Walden. She lived in Chicago, IL, before moving to Danville, VA in 1994. She attended Central Boulevard Church of God and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and cooking. She worked for American National University in the Student Services Department. Survivors include a son, Damien Diazdeleon, and his wife Jinny, of the residence; three grandchildren, Gabriel, Isabelle, and Clara Diazdeleon, of the residence; a sister, Florence Freeze, and her husband Thomas, of Axton, VA; a brother, Matthew Mark Walden, Axton, VA; a nephew, David Wayne Hensley, Axton, VA; a niece, Ashley Lynn Hensley, Axton, VA; two great nephews, Marcus Hensley and Merick Hensley; a great niece, Morgan Hensley; and a host of family and friends. Born January 27, 1973 in Danville, VA, he was the son of Anthony Stanfield (Mary) of Greensboro, NC and Lillie Tucker Brim of Danville, VA, who survives. Catherine Fitzgerald, 58, of 783 Arnett Blvd., Danville, VA died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at her residence. Born August 2, 1956 in Pittsylvania County, VA she was the daughter of the late Scott Witcher and the late Dorothy Martin. She was married to Dillard Fitzgerald, Sr., who survives. In addition to her husband, survivors include six sons, Jerry Fitzgerald, Dillard Fitzgerald and Keith Fitzgerald, all of Danville, VA; Kenneth Fitzgerald of Atlanta, GA. Mark Fitzgerald of Greensboro, NC and Courtney Fitzgerald of DC, MASS; three sisters, Emma Martin and Rosa Carter, both of Danville, VA and Sarah Carter of Ridgeway; nine grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Herman Martin. Clyde Wilson Doss

Clyde Wilson Doss, 82, of 2546 Airview Drive, Danville, Va., passed a w a y Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Riverside Health & Rehab. He was born February 5, 1933 to the late Willie Mae Doss Cassada and the late Willie Wilson Doss. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcelle Louise Doss, who resides at Riverside Health & Rehab as well. Mr. Doss served his country proudly in the US Air Force in Korea. He worked for NASA, where he received a certificate of merit, and on December 21, 1968 he participated in the historic Kennedy Space Center launch of Apollo 8, the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon. In addition to his wife, Mr. Doss is survived by his nieces, Ann Marie Robertson, Janet D. Liverman, and Julia Allen; his nephew Douglas K. Doss; his half-brother David Doss; as well as a number of great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Lester K. Doss and Calvin R. Doss. A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, with Rev. Douglas K. Doss officiating. Howard Lee Carter, 89 of 249 Katie Hill Road died Sunday, August 09, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Carter was born September 12, 1925 in Danville Va. to the late Allen Howard Carter and the late Nora Belle Honeycutt Carter, and was married to Ruth Adams Carter whom survives. Mr. Carter served in the US Army during World War II, and the US Air Force during the Korean War, after his service to his country, he work as a plumber for over thirty years in Baltimore and also in Danville and Pittsylvania County. In additional to his wife, Mr. Carter is survived by one son Larry Carter and wife Billie of Dry Fork, a special niece, Linda Carter Lewis of Danville, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In additional to his parents Mr. Carter is predeceased by two brothers: Marvin and Bob Carter. Hendley, Sr., and Nancy Moore Hendley. He had worked as a pipe fitter for EAS in Greensboro. He was of the Holiness faith. In addition to his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Hendley, he is survived by two daughters, Tina Graham (Chris) of Danville, and Melanie Livengood (D.J.) of Blairs. Also surviving is grandchildren, Jacob Graham, Cheyenne Graham, Elijah Livengood and Evan Livengood; two brothers, Barry Hendley (Judy) and Randy Hendley; sisters, Pam Hendley, Vickie Adkins, and Tammy Coleman; Several nieces and nephews. She was born on January 26, 1962, in Danville, VA, to the late James Terrell and Margaret Myrick Terrell. Fern Setliff

Fern Setliff, 88, of 376 Cedarbrook Dr., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Her h e a l t h had declined over the past several months, but her death was unexpected. Born March 20, 1927, in Henry County, she was the daughter of the late Denver B. Young and Emily S. Young. She was a member of Sandy Shores Baptist, and a previous member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church. She loved her family, her church, her Lord, and many friends. She was married to Gilmer Setliff on January 5, 1948. Gilmer passed away on Sept. 2, 2006. Fern was a kind, loving mother and grandmother. She stood by her husband, Gilmer, as he served many churches as Interim Pastor. She always went where he was called. She loved to cook for her family. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, and family functions. Fern is survived by her two daughters, Robin Setliff, of the residence, and Annette Porter; her son, Charles Setliff, Jr. and wife Mary; grandchildren: Joey Woods, Jr., Alex, Zachary, and Carleigh Setliff; great-grandchildren: Haylee Woods and Adysen Woods; sister, Billie Nance; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. K e r r y Maynard Jordan, 51, of 937 Oakwood D r i v e , passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015 at his home. He was born on September 26, 1963 to Bobbie Johnson Jordan and Ernest Maynard Jordan. He will greatly be missed. Along with his parents, he is survived by his three brothers, Ernest Wayne Jordan, Bernie Dwayne Jordan and Barry Keith Jordan and several nieces and nephews.
