BACKGROUND NOISE Essay film, 11 min. 2019 Background noise is an documentary essay that reflects on the recording of image and sound in everyday life in interior spaces in Bogotá and how this configures the way in which an intimate space is remembered. I have a special interest on how the audiovisual record, besides being the material of this film, is also the material of my memory. Through observation and meticulous recording with video, sound and photography of everyday house interiors in Bogota, the reflection on how records create, distort and invent memory is unveiled. This film is composed of videos of interiors of houses in Bogotá, videos of photographs of those same interiors and videos of photographs of my family album where the house of my childhood appears, in this way, I am interested in exploring different textures and natures of the image in interior inhabited spaces. This is because the subject of my essay is the recording of the everyday through different media. The essay reflects on the processes in which memory is constructed framed within a space and also from the photographic or sound image. Memory can be recorded by any time-based media, such as video or photography. Through these media we can also remember a space; the daily record allows us to remember a place situated in the past, so it happens with the photos of the family album. That’s precisely what I did with this project: record everyday life, while the memory and the film are constructed. In this sense, this project aims to talk about the medium in which it is conceived, to analyse also the language in which this project is created and the memory itself. This essay film is my Bachelor final project and it gather all of the interests that I had in the university, also I wanted to use differents kinds of media such as analog photography, digital video and sound synthesis because I’m interested in make interdisciplinary projects, so I can experiment with the narrative and the sctructure of film, video and photography. The pictures I took for this film formed also a photobook with the same name. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUcI7iP-GVI&t=115s Wacth: anex 1

I’LL BE RUNNIN’ Videoclip Music: Sara Piñeros and Alejandro Quiñones 2018

I’ll be runnun’ is a song made by Alejandro Quiñones and me, he played the guitar and I played the other sounds and compose the song and sang. I wanted to make a videoclip with material recorded by me that I’ve never used before and then mix it with 3D modelling and photography. All the videoclip is made by me in Blender. I built 2D scenerios with my pictures and some of Stephen Shore and put them in 3D spaces. I was trying to make islands or distant and imaginary places that could be invented from pictures that already exist. While I was making the video I tryed to picture where this words of the song could exist, I wasn’t looking for their acrtual meaning but traying to give them a place to exist. So that, the song set the tone for the creation and montage of the images. I wanted to show different textures from the water, because I like to experiment with liquid materials, I find them visually powerfull and also I think that the water reminds me to the memory, thats why water appears so concurrently in all my projects. IMAGINARY SPACES Essay film, 7 min. 2017

From photographs and videos captured during a year, a woman reflects about the look and the point of view in relation with the memory she has of these records. Have them replaced their memory or have them created a different experience that is not what she lived nor what is being seen in the images? This audiovisual essay reflects on look and makes a conscious process through writing about taking pictures and recording with video and sound everyday reality. What happens in the mind moments before registering an image? Watch: https://vimeo.com/276953590 Password: casiopea

WHERE THE MIND WANTS TO GO Analog Photography 2017

This serie is composed of 20 digital positives from analogue negatives of 120 and 35 mm collected during a year of travel. These places are now what allows me to see the image. The experience of having been there has been reduced or exalted in these photographs and the memory of these places. These travel photos are of spaces that could easily be forgotten, they have nothing extraordinary and they do not pretend to be located in a specific geographical space. These photographs are those that are in the middle of a trip, in the middle of tourist postcards or selfies. Their origin is not important because they are insignificant within large cities. For this reason they are unidentifiable, rare in their species and in their habitat. They are fragments, small traces of spaces, singular and particular, in any case, surprising and evocative, they can take me anywhere, invented or real. Watch: anex 2

WHERE OUR TIME IS SPENT Photobook 2017

This project arose in Austria, while I was making an exchange in the Kunstuniversität in Linz. At that time I wanted to take pictures of what for me was close and common, my neighborhood, balconies and buildings, pictures of houses exteriors. However, I was very curious to know how people really lived in that country and what their houses were like inside, what objects they had and how they were arranged. Finally I entered to some houses and the result was surprising. I discovered what for other people is ordinary, what they least notice in their daily lives, but for me it was strange, alien and spectacular. These photographs resulted in a book of interiors of houses in Austria. Watch: anex 3

LETTERS FROM HOME Video letter, 9:00 min. Sara Piñeros and Alejandro Quiñones Roa 2016

Two voices reading words from the country where we grow up, are also reading the images we recorded in foreign places. These images link our perception as visitors with a natural daily life, which seems to be imperceptible. The videos were recorded by both, with a cell phone and a Hi8 cassette camera. The letters were written by our family in Colombia and we read them and recorded our voices. Watch: https://vimeo.com/203347585
