Did you know that harvesting the bark from a cork oak tree every 9-10 years helps the tree to grow and live longer? As the cork tree continues to mature and go through harvest, the tree is able to absorb more carbon dioxide to support its bark regeneration. As a result, our harvested trees will filter more carbon dioxide than those left untouched, resulting in cleaner air for everyone. All of the cork we use comes from family owned farms in Portugal, where the farmers are paid a fair wage to carefully remove the cork by hand. The aged cork bark allows us to yield a soft, beautiful and durable material, which we use to make our bags.

KEITH STRACHAN DIRECTOR AND PRESIDENT
Utilizing his consultancy expertise in pitching public sector contracts and supply chain management, Keith Strachan co-founded MediPharm Labs in 2015. Seeking compliance with government licensing, and planning locally, they were the first to secure a Health Canada License for cannabis oil production, without first being a cultivator. A seasoned entrepreneur, Keith has applied his leadership skills to building out MediPharm Labs leading-edge facilities, launching operations and growing its workforce. As a strategist, he is the driving force behind business development with the company’s supply, contract, processing, partners, and producers.
PAT MCCUTCHEON CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Before founding MediPharm Labs, Pat enjoyed a 15-year career in the pharmaceutical industry in top sales roles, successfully launching a wide range of medical products. He most recently worked at Janssen Pharmaceuticals, (Johnson & Johnson), where he led the Hospital Division for Renal and Mental Health products. Pat brings this pharmaceutical perspective to MediPharm Labs, investing time and energy from the outset in pharma standards such as ISO-built clean rooms, critical environments and building and operating the facility according to European Good Manufacturing Practices. Pat’s foresight in creating a business that focuses on advanced cannabis concentrates bodes well for medical research, investors and consumers alike.

CNIB THE LAKE JOE VISION OF
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow BY_ JORDAN LAZARUK
In 1960, a team of innovative philanthropists had a vision. Looking out at a decommissioned 19thcentury steamship dock on the pristine shores of Lake Joseph they saw the glimmer of opportunity. The brush and the trees brimmed with potential; they had arrived at the perfect foundation to build a perennial sanctuary for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted. CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) ran an overnight program in Ancaster from 1956 to 1959, leasing a church camp for three weeks each summer. The sessions were an outstanding success, affording campers with sight loss the chance to engage in coveted summertime activities - campfires, card games, music, crafts, even earning their Red Cross swimming certificate - in a safe and inclusive environment.
The property is outfitted with marked railings and audio devices to guide campers; basketballs rattle to indicate their location; tandem bikes whiz by; around every corner innovation and creativity is making the impossible possible and changing perceptions about what it is to be blind. Children can go kayaking, tubing, and fishing, then sit by the fire, roast marshmallows, and sing and laugh together. Alain Saumur (Senior Director, Philanthropy, CNIB) beams detailing the far-reaching impact of the camp: “I met a young man from the Yukon…he was a camper at CNIB Lake Joe and learned how to sail. Two years ago he became a camp counsellor. Last year he represented Canada in a sailing competition - and won! Next year he’s planning to go to college.
"EARTH AND SKY, WOODS AND FIELDS, LAKES AND RIVERS, THE MOUNTAIN AND THE SEA, ARE EXCELLENT SCHOOLMASTERS, AND TEACH SOME OF US MORE THAN WE CAN EVER LEARN FROM BOOKS." -JOHN LUBBOCK
The program continued to grow and called for a permanent home, so the following year CNIB partnered with the Canadian Council of the Blind and the Lions Clubs of Ontario to purchase 12.5 acres of charming waterfront property on the northwest corner of Lake Joseph. The parcel - once a Canadian National Railway station serving Lakes Joseph, Rosseau and Muskoka - was restored beautifully, and hosted its first cycle of campers in 1961. In the decades since it has evolved and expanded to facilitate the dynamic needs of children, youth, and the young-at-heart by curating a unique blend of recreation and skills development programs to build confidence, cultivate new relationships, and discover independence. Today CNIB Lake Joe provides a distinctly Canadian experience to more than 1,000 participants each summer. Children problem solve and learn responsibility in a comfortable and mutually respectful community that understands the nuances and challenges of living with sight loss. A camper describes their experience as the first time they finally felt inconspicuous. “I felt like I belonged, and I wasn’t embarrassed about my white cane.”
It demonstrates the evolution of what this camp can do for one person. It shows them that anything is possible.” CNIB Lake Joe also hosts an annual retreat for veterans from Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and Parkwood Hospital in London. It is a testament to the legacy of CNIB, whose founders established the organization in 1918 to support troops returning blind from the First World War. The organization has pioneered countless initiatives and continues to lobby passionately for the rights of Canadians who are blind or partially sighted. Each year the Lake Joe Vision Team organizes a themed event to raise funds for the continued operation and development of the facility. Saumur explains, “We can't do this alone. We need people not only to fund the project, but also to support us and help us with connections. We want people driving to their cottages to look up CNIB Lake Joe and say `I’m part of something that changes the lives of people with sight loss. I support it, I contribute to it, and I am proud to be a part of it.” To support CNIB Lake Joe visit CNIBLakeJoe.ca/Donate

AHMED SALEH The Tech PR Maven BY_NICOLE MYERS PHOTOGRAPHY_ MAHDI YAHYA
With innovation being the catalyst to growth, the tech world isn’t just about entrepreneurs and developers. It’s an industry where great public relations is a necessity for success. Ahmed Saleh, a PR professional, has proven this by giving tech organizations and startups a creative and customized strategy to connect, engage and secure top-tier media placement and become household names. Ahmed has quickly become a sought-out PR person in the Canadian tech industry. “PR is the unseen hand behind the most successful brands in the world,” says Ahmed Saleh, as he discusses his current role at the number one

His favourite thing about PR? “Sharing stories about how tech intersects with everyday people - whether it’s the way a startup is helping individuals with mental health concerns to how entrepreneurs are volunteering their time to provide free digital literacy courses to Syrian refugees in Canada,” says Ahmed Saleh. ALEX BROWN The connector
BY GREG SMITH PHOTOGRAPHY_ SIMONE FRANK & SCOTT COOPER Building a globally recognized and highly profitable brand that truly solves problems for the people on this planet is what Alex Brown believes all entrepreneurs that want to build big companies must strive for. As a successful eCommerce entrepreneur and one who now advises multiple companies doing over $10M/year, Alex believes that the eCommerce industry is largely broken, and is mobilizing the troops to fix it. The secret to massive success in any industry is to create truly great products, business models that make the planet a better place, and brand stories that weave those two together in ways that solve our most pressing problems. Alex Brown is arguably best known for co-founding the Dollar Beard Club – a worldwide phenomenon which went from $0 to $10M in revenue in its first year. A self-described entrepreneur, speaker, and traveler, Brown is also the founder of eCommerce Rockstars and believes the recipe for success in that industry has three ingredients: Practical Experience, Big Picture Thinking, and Community + Relationships. He believes that success is less about wealth and “everything to do with providing value and being present with those around you.”

STAYING AUTHENTIC IN FASHION Tell us how Stylist Box came about? “It was so positive! My co-founder and I have been in the fashion industry since the mid 90s. The concept is straightforward. We asked ourselves ‘how can we help everybody in the industry?’ We wanted Stylist Box to be a win-win for everyone by connecting the most important roles in fashion like stylists, designers, talent and more, to one another.” How do you make sure your clients are happy with the end result? “It’s all about creating synergies and being a cheerleader for all members of the fashion community. Although the industry is growing, it’s still close-knit and can be intimidating to some. And with every project, we make sure that Stylist Box can provide people access and opportunities to be creative and work together.” With the growing trend of ‘conscious creativity’ in fashion, are there certain looks you won’t work on or specific materials you won’t work with? “For us, the key thing is if it’s a good product, meaning it’s authentically produced. It’s important to assure that a certain garment is sourced and produced through ethical means. Are the products avoiding pollution? Using natural energy? Ethical fashion can help reduce your impact on the environment and invest in safer, more sustainable practices. And to us, that’s what’s most important.”

IMMERSIVE FASHION THEATRE Pie Media Group productions promote Canadian arts and fashion individuals and communities, while simultaneously supporting local and national charities. The focus is founded on building long lasting relationships within the community, and beyond. Each individual plays a vital role, and connection. This creation exceeded this level of storytelling because it was immersive, interactive and experiential. It was pure happiness.
Picture it: Strolling actors and models led guests through the fun and f lair of the midway: from steampunk, cultured cocktails and curiosities, to a 32-piece orchestra, culinary wagons, burlesque couture, body art and Bhangra dancers. Local couture was merged with international designs on the pathway. Feathers from the Mayan Riviera met the verdant beauty of the Canadian countryside. It was raw and real with a walk through the enchanted forest. Feathers, leather, tiaras, and macramĂŠ dressed up the forest fashion installations. The dramatic interior of the spacious event tent, an elegant simplicity of chandeliers, along with world class sound and light production framed the experience, accentuating the visual magic on stage. This experience was a collaboration of artists and creatives from around the globe: designers, musicians, media, models, dancers, sculptors, actors, culinary and makeup artists. Pie Media Group has been producing avant-garde shows through immersive fashion theatre for over 15 years, merging varied styles, personalities and talents. London's trending Shoreditch THE SHOREDITCH STUNNER AIRBNB.CA/ROOMS/29825284
Just east of London’s Square Mile, in what was formerly the city's entertainment district, is a hipster destination known as Shoreditch. Along its cobbled streets, you’ll find an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants, independently owned boutiques, craft cafes, book shops, galleries, gastropubs, and noodle bars. The area has been home to waves of religious refugees, the working-class, and young creatives. Ever evolving, with its stylish and f luid character, it is becoming London's trendiest neighborhood. In your search for somewhere fabulous to stay during your time in London, you may discover this “Shoreditch Stunner” listed on airbnb. ca. Aptly named, this sprawling loft space has two bedrooms and an open-plan living area; it is suitable for 4 guests. This 150m long converted warehouse overlooks historic St. Leonard's Church, in the heart of Shoreditch. The apartment is also available on plumguide.com, as “The King of Shoreditch”. From the king bed in the master bedroom, you are within 5 km of the Tower of London, The British Museum, Soho, The Shard, and King’s Cross, with its endless destinations. The loft is bright, artsy and airy. While its colourful murals, unique sculptures, and surprising originals lend a quirky, bohemian vibe, the lush plants, extensive library, and local custom-made furniture make it feel like home. .

"It was like I was a character in a psychological thriller. What I didn’t expect from the curious voyage, and immersive theatre, was the thrill of the mind. It was the vulnerability of discovering something new, without expectation. The fantasy and fantastical experience lead me from Barrie to London, on an expedition that made me question myself, those around me and look deep into what I could be capable of doing. A profound experience with actors whose passion made my heart pound; brought a tear to my eye, laughter through my chest, and vibrant memories I will cherish. The most curious aspect of this journey was personal." - Sandra, Pie Publisher
Michael Torontow: some thoughts on a Curious Voyage... "I was already dealing with a lot of what it took to just get into the role, and behaving like a citizen of that city which I had never seen was arguably similar to what my character may have had to do, returning to a place he thought he knew but didn’t fully recognize, feeling the “chill of ghostly shadows everywhere”. "The Curious Journey is a study in the unearthing of repressed trauma. As we are faced with shifting landscapes in our environments, we dig deeper for foundations. We unearth heritage, diseases, memories. Looking at our carbon sinks, we find a fascinating meeting place between human experience and industry as allegory. An old warehouse basement – half modernized, half disappearing. We have buried our traumas within us and below our homes. We explore what happens when we tap into these emotional vaults, or oil wells, to harness as power to exact our desires. When we use trauma to motivate our actions, we must question the ethics of the journey. In immersive theatre, that is a thrilling challenge." - JOE PAGNAN, SET DESIGNER

Striking. When tasked with choosing an adjective to aptly describe Toronto-based violinist Sarah Davidson-Gurney, who goes by the stage name Saraphina Violin, that’s certainly the one that resonates. Beyond her captivating stage presence Saraphina Violin’s haunting and unique style is what really sets her apart, allowing her to transcend musical genres, tastes, and even ideas about what is possible with the violin. If you were lucky enough to have witnessed Sarah’s haunting melodies and catchy house beats during her sublime performance of her songs ‘Transfixed’ and ‘Beyond the Dark’ for the production, ‘Elysium’, you know what we’re talking about. It was at the University of Toronto where Sarah honed her musical talents and abilities, earning her Bachelors degree in Violin Performance Studies. In 2005, she received her Masters degree in Violin performance studying under the tutelage of the late Jacques Israelievitch. Her passion and musicality was a much earlier discovery, however. At three, the young Davidson-Gurney started to learn how to play the violin. Tickling the ivory keys soon followed at the age of five. Believing in, and following, her passion for music has certainly been fulfilling. The young artist already boasts an impressive list of creative endeavours, pursuits, and accomplishments. Highlights from this list include recording an album at the age of thirteen, acting as the concertmaster of the York University Symphony from 2009 - 2011, winning York University’s Concerto Competition, performing internationally in swanky venues like the Ritz-Carlton and the Shangri-La, and performing as the opening act for well-known artists including Diana Ross, Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar and Usher. Sarah regularly performs around the globe as a solo artist, a guest performer with various orchestras and with her electric quartet, “Four Strings”. BARRIE TRIM
It's all in the details BY_MANDY JOHNSON | PHOTOGRAPHY_SCOTT COOPER
"Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It’s about impact, influence and inspiration. Impact involves getting results, influence is about spreading the passion you have for your work, and you have to inspire team-mates and customers." - ROBIN S. SHARMA
Barrie Trim and Moulding has been a landmark business in the Barrie region since 1985. It has evolved over time and supports a legacy that is both steeped in community and expertise in its craft. Lee Whitaker, owner and president, has grown up in this local business and has taken the very seed that planted the vision and grown it into an orchard. Having emigrated from England 4 year’s prior, Lee’s father Brian Whitaker, had originally opened the business in response to the growing need for trim and finishing materials. It was born out of the need to create work for himself and sustain his family during times of a career transition. What proved to be a side job; became a viable business opportunity. Barrie’s growing community had little support for this specialized product and service – hence, the birth of BTM. Expansion came quickly and the humble beginnings of a small shop in the North End of Barrie quickly turned into a larger location in the Cedar Point Plaza. Again, the company would find itself in the fortunate position of growing out of its home and the signature location on Saunders Road became the new home for BTM.

BIG BAY POINT ROAD, INNISFIL
We all paint pictures about home... in one way or another. Whether it's doodling the layout of our gourmet kitchen, imagining what colours will cover the walls in our master bedroom, or collecting images of houses we wish to live in. It's inspiring to create the picture of our dream home. And if a picture is worth a thousand words, then what is a lifetime of pictures worth? That's hard to measure, because even the broadest brush and sharpest camera won't do justice to the beauty of the pictures that will be forged here at 422 & 424 Big Bay Point Road. Live an incomparable lifestyle in this modern, custom-designed, 5 bedroom home with sweeping 180 degree views of Kempenfelt Bay, near the premier Big Bay Point golf and waterfront community. This architectural masterpiece features a geothermal heat system, in-floor heat, commercial-grade windows, a home theatre with projector, large walk in pantry, backup generator and so much more.

MARINA LANDING —
Where the ocean begins, treasures wait to be claimed. For longer than Canada has been Canada,
people
have been farming oysters in the warm waters of Malagash Bay on Nova Scotia’s Northumberland Shore. Of the many gifts the Bay gives up, none equals the sensation of shucking and slurping a Malagash oyster: firm, robust, a trace of brine and a sweet finish. Brought to you by the air, saltwater and sandy soils found nowhere else but here, just outside the gates of Fox Harb’r Resort. These very same soils, water, and air surround the crown jewel of our secluded residential enclave: the hillside homes of Marina Landing.
— FIRST IN A SERIES
There are but twelve. With sparkling glass and graceful woods, long and wide and overflowing with ocean light, these are as much galleries as homes, framing uninterrupted views of the marina, the lighthouse, our championship golf course and most of all, the Northumberland Strait. To be completed in 2020, the homes will feel as if grown from the hill, at once private yet wide open. But unlike the plentiful Malagash oyster, the Marina Landing homes will number a dozen and no more. They are the defining statement of Fox Harb’r founer Ron Joyce’s original vision for our 5-star resort, of which Canada has but five: “Luxury without pretension, in one of the most beautiful places on earth.”
At a time in your life when new vistas, experiences, and even tastes are waiting, we look forward to showing you these.

MARINA LANDING,
A place so indescribable only a wine could describe it. For centuries, artists of every kind have pained to capture the essence of this place. But only a wine – born of our red clay soil, raised by the long sun, ocean air and warm Northumberland Shore waters – could truly make you feel all that is Fox Harb’r. So we planted a vineyard. And in a few months its first vintage, our own take on Nova Scotia’s exclusive Tidal Bay appellation, will be bottled, chilled and ready. What will go best with it? The very setting that made it, as seen, sipped and savoured from the veranda of your secluded oceanfront residence at Marina Landing, Fox Harb’r.

NOVA SCOTIA
There are but twelve. Like a case of our wine, Fox Harb’r is making twelve and only twelve Marina Landing homes. And like our wine again, each is a reflection of its place: natural woods and stone, sparkling sun and air, room in abundance, nothing spared, every venerable step in the making respected. Each fully overlooks the resort’s deep water marina, championship links and beloved lighthouse, and the majestic Northumberland Strait. And each is seconds from everything our fivestar resort (one of only five in Canada) offers, including the world’s best seafood – taken from the same waters, and now with the perfect complement.
Our homes will be finished in 2020, our vintage a bit sooner. Can we reserve a bottle, and a place to enjoy it, for you?
Uncork yours immediately by contacting Eric Lum at (902) 412-4812 or elum@foxharbr.com or by visiting foxharbr.com/marinalanding.

live remarkably What if a community developer invited ideas from beekeepers and berry growers. Left woodland paths for wildlife to traverse. Created skating ponds and built toboggan hills for neighbourhood kids to enjoy. Created their very own ‘Field of Dreams’. And named a hilltop ‘Starfall’ because you can see the Milky Way from there. Remarkably, there is only one... Georgian International.
