THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF LATINO AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE

1

We believe a National Museum to celebrate the history, contributions and story of the American Latino should be of the people, by the people and for the people it most represents.

Texas is that place.

Nearly one in five U.S. Latinos lives in Texas — more than 8.5 million people. Eight of the nation’s top 25 counties for Latino population are in Texas. Each has more than 300,000 Latino residents. One of them is Travis County, in the center of the state.

A Great Idea: Austin, Texas •

Heritage: Austin rests just west of the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas trail, the “Crossroads of Cultures” •

Austin is one of the few places in the country where the Latino American story truly began.
