You can also buy a Pier Arts Centre Gift Voucher that can be used to purchase anything for sale including artwork in the Annual Open Exhibition or even a Friends membership.

What’s in it for you?

Being a Friend entitles you to attend exhibition previews, giving you the opportunity to meet visiting artists while enjoying a glass of wine in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Gallery Events, Children & Families

As a Friend you will be entitled to a 10% discount on any works purchased at selected events and 10% discount on Pier Arts Centre merchandise (exclusions apply). Regular newsletters will be sent outlining forthcoming exhibitions, events, workshops and special offers.

The Pier Arts Centre’s popular ‘drop-in’ afternoon of Christmas themed art activities for all the family. NB All children must be accompanied by an adult. Free Admission.

What’s in it for the Pier Arts Centre?

The Pier Arts Centre presents a year round programme of events and activities that support the exhibition programme and permanent Collection. Family and Children’s activity packs are available from Reception.

Having a strong and active Friends membership has many benefits for the Pier Arts Centre, not least financial.

Friends can assist the Pier by becoming involved in promotional activity, enhancing the profile of the Centre, spreading its reputation and supporting its activities.

Annual subscription rates are: Single £15 Joint £25 (two people residing at the same address) Family £35 (up to two adults and two children residing at the same address)

The Pier Arts Centre presents its annual celebration of art and craft by artists and makers who live and work in Orkney.

In early 2015 the Pier Arts Centre will be presenting its bi-annual recent art graduates exhibition, highlighting the work of artists schooled in Orkney who have gained a degree in art, design or architecture.

The exhibition showcases a broad cross section of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and crafts and includes artists with professional backgrounds and others who, without formal study, have discovered the pleasures and challenges that are the rewards of creative activity.

Paying a subscription by standing order helps in reducing administration costs. If you would like to pay by this method, please complete the standing order form. If you would prefer to pay by cash or cheque, please complete the alternative form.

The work shown reflects the wide variety of subject matter that inspires artists and makers working in Orkney and the many interpretations and forms that expression takes - from landscape and seascape, flora and fauna to the more abstract, the humorous and conceptual - all find a home in this popular annual event.

With all works for sale, the exhibition allows an unparalleled opportunity to revel in the breadth and joy of Orkney’s artistic expression.

The Own Art scheme offers the opportunity to apply for interest free loans* of between £100 and £2000 for the purchase of original works of art or craft in any media. Loans are repayable in 10 monthly instalments. *Representative 0% APR

Pier Arts Centre Collection The Collection includes key modernist works by artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Alfred Wallis as well as contemporary works by Anish Kapoor and Roger Ackling.

A display on the first floor, reflects the Pier Art Centre’s active role in supporting and promoting contemporary Scottish artists who have come to the fore in Scotland over the last 25 years and includes recent acquisitions of work by Douglas Gordon, Jim Lambie, Martin Boyce, Camilla Løw, Katy Dove and Callum Innes.
