Château Belgrave

Grand Cru Classé Haut-Médoc 2011 Terms of vintage In record drought conditions, constantly adapting vine management techniques, including canopy management, ploughing the soils and temporary crop planting, successfully avoided any growth stoppages in the vine on the more exposed gravel-sand parcels. With meticulous monitoring of disease pressure in the vines during the humid summer, and rigorous sorting of the grapes on the vine, the grapes were healthy with entirely satisfactory levels of ripeness, particularly in the case of the later-ripening varietals. With a combination of gentle vinification, average vatting time and controlled extractions, the wines are elegant and expressive

Château Le Boscq

Cru Bourgeois Saint-Estèphe 2011 Terms of vintage The old vines at Le Boscq, deeply rooted in a clay subsoil, were less affected by the significant limited water supplies, characteristic of the vintage. While the hailstorms at the beginning of May had little effect on the vineyard, the excessive heat and lack of water at the height of the vine’s growth period, reduced crop volumes. The first Merlot grapes were picked as early as September 13th (a record!), followed rapidly by the Cabernets and Petit Verdot, which fully benefited from the spate of good weather from mid-September. The harvest was concentrated over a two week period, with a larger team for even more rigorous grape selection, the essential key to the success of this vintage.

Château La Garde

Pessac-Léognan 2011 (Red) Terms of vintage This vintage really kept us waiting! Fine weather in August and September fortuitously reduced the significant delay at the start of the summer, but still required drastic selection in both the reds and whites, resulting in a significant reduction in volumes at la Garde. We delayed picking for as long as possible for the red grapes to reach optimum maturity, until October 5th. While unsettled weather at the start of harvesting fortunately did not affect the health of the vineyard, the Merlot and Cabernets had to be picked in rapid succession to avoid any risk. Bud-burst

Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac
 Saint Émilion Grand cru 2008

Terms of vintage The estate did not escape the challenging weather conditions in Saint-Emilion: frost, hail and serious coulure in the very old Merlot vines significantly reduced harvest levels. Luckily, knowledge of the terroir, the perfectly healthy state of the vineyard and magnificent Indian Summer conditions throughout September and October, combined to create great ripening conditions. We were able to wait for a level of ripeness where the concentration of ripe fruit and freshness on the palate was still well-balanced. The length of cuvaisons during vinification varied according to the potential quality of each batch. Elegance and finesse were sought out, avoiding extraction and over-ripeness. The wines are magnificent – a great vintage for Chateau Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac. Bud-burst

Estates manager’s tasting notes Highly attractive, intense colour. Powerful on the nose, the wine exudes intense ripe, fresh fruit aromas of black cherries, which blend seamlessly with notes of spice, liquorice and mint. Soft, long and full on the palate, underpinned by refined tannins. The aromatic and refreshing fleshy character coats the well-balanced structure, before the long, delicately spiced finish. The richness and complexity of Essence 2009, at this stage of the wine’s development, would benefit from airing for two hours before drinking
