In 1859 Evgueni-Louis Max emigrated from Georgia to start a wine business, at first in Beaune and then in Nuits Saint Georges. After 4 generations of the Max family, and 154 years in Burgundy, the management of Maison Louis Max is now bestowed upon a new management team since 2007 ; to give the company new momentum.
Louis Max owns over 20 hectares of organic vines in CĂ´te Chalonnaise, including 1er Cru and monopole in Mercurey and Rully
The Domaine is entirely grown organically, using traditional farming method. We use horses for ploughing and other works.
Long term partnership for grape supply for another 50 hectares in Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, Chablis and all over Burgundy
The vinification is entirely done in our cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
 Since 2014, David Duband, the renowned vigneron from the Côte de Nuits, has joined the winemaking team as Technical Director.
All Louis Max labels were designed by Pierre Le Tan the renowned French illustrator. Pierre Le Tan has done work for luxury brands like Hermes or Coach. He has also worked with the New Yorker
Each year the wines of Louis MAX receive several dozen medals at the most prestigious of wine tasting competitions and reviews from the most renowned journalists like James Suckling, Allen Meadows or Bill Nanson

Louis Max is the owner of a 340 hectares estate with 165 hectares of vineyard in the Languedoc region. This vineyard is cultivated organically.

Domaine la Lyre in Côtes-du-Rhône
Located a few kilometers from the Pont du Gard and less than 1 hour drive from the Mediterranean Sea
…and near the charming medieval village of Uzès.
Domaine la Lyre is a 45 hectares vineyard, located in the small village of Pouzilhac. It has been grown in organic farming since 2009.



The wines of Domaine la Lyre also receive several awards each year.
Domaine la Lyre - AOC Côtes-du-Rhône
TERROIR This wine is made from several vineyards spread all over Burgundy This blend combines the complexity of the Côte d’Or and the generous fruit flavors from the Côte Chalonnaise and the Maconnais. The vines are conducted using the Guyot pruning, which permits a strict yield control. The soils are rich in limestone, where Chardonnay thrives. GRAPE VARIETY : 100% Chardonnay WINEMAKING : Manual harvest - Grape sorting – Traditional fermentation FOOD PAIRING : White meats in sauce, grilled fish and seafood platters. SERVICE TEMPERATURE : 12-13°C. AGEING POTENTIAL : Ready to drink, can be kept up to 4 years.
Bourgogne Chardonnay Beaucharme 2015 Grade : Regional appellation Location : Burgundy Region
TERROIR The world-renowned vineyard of Meursault is located on the Côte de Beaune, on limestone-marl soils. This terroir has been recognized has a prime terroir for centuries; ever since the monks of the Citeaux Abbey started planting vines here back in 1098. Meursault Blagny is produced on the south west part of the Meursault appellation. The vines are located on steep slopes rich in limestone. The name of this climat comes from an ancient word “beleniacum”, meaning place where we worship belenos, the gaulish God of Sun and Youth. GRAPE VARIETY 100% Chardonnay WINEMAKING Manual harvesting, with sorting of the grapes before the winemaking. Fermentation and maturation in oak barrels for 12 months, including 30% of new barrels. FOOD PAIRING Goes well with veal or delicate poultry dishes, grilled seafood and fishes. Can also be paired with foie-gras and goat cheese. SERVICE TEMPERATURE : 12-13° AGEING POTENTIAL : 10- 15 years
Meursault 1er Cru Blagny 2014 Grade : Premier cru Location : Côte de Beaune
TERROIR The Pinot Noir, single grape variety on the Côte, has lot of different ways of expressing itself. On the Côte de Beaune, it is very delicate, with a lot of finesse, whereas on the Côte de Nuits, it is more powerful, more tannic. The Côte Chalonnaise offers round, generous and easy to drink wines. This Bourgogne Beaucharme is a blend of grapes from the Côte de Nuits and Cote Chalonnaise areas. GRAPE VARIETY : 100% Pinot Noir WINEMAKING : Manual harvest. Grape sorting . Destemming of 50 % the grapes. Traditional winemaking. FOOD PAIRING Cold cuts, roasted or grilled meats, especially with beef. Also goes well with soft cheeses. SERVICE TEMPERATURE : 14-16°C AGEING POTENTIAL Ready to drink, can be kept up to 4 years
Bourgogne Pinot Noir Beaucharme 2014
Grade : Regional appellation Location : Burgundy Region
TERROIR The Domaine la Lyre is located in the heart of the Pouzilhac terroir, near the charming village of Uzes and the Pont du Gard in the South of France. The vineyard spreads over slopes, at an ideal altitude. While it benefits from a very sunny climate, it still remains fresh thanks to the neighboring Massif Central Mountains. The domaine is grown organically and certified by Ecocert. GRAPE VARIETY Syrah, Grenache WINEMAKING The grapes are harvested only when they achieve perfect maturity, then they are carefully sorted and fully destemmed before the fermentation. Fermentation in traditional vats, ageing of 6 months. FOOD PAIRING Goes well with red meats in sauce, game stew, roasted poultries and cheeses SERVICE TEMPERATURE: 16° AGEING POTENTIAL: 3- 4 years
Côte du Rhône Domaine la Lyre 2014 Organic Wine Location : Southern Rhone Valley
TERROIR This wine is produced in the Côte Chalonnaise, in the South of Burgundy. This 1er Cru Les Vasées is located on the Domaine Louis Max in Mercurey, a beautiful Domaine of 20 hectares, grown in organic farming. The soils are clayey marl, with a good limestone proportion. GRAPE VARIETY 100% Pinot Noir WINEMAKING Manual harvest with grape sorting before the vinification and destemming of half the grapes. Traditional fermentation in wooden tank, maturation in oak barrels for 18 months. FOOD PAIRING Pairs well with red meats grilled or in sauce, delicate poultry dishes and exotic foods. Can also be served with strong cheeses. SERVICE TEMPERATURE : 15° AGEING POTENTIAL : 7 years
Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées 2014 Organic wine Grade : 1er cru Location : Côte Chalonnaise
TERROIR The village of Gevrey-Chambertin is located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, between Dijon and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Vineyards have a perfect exposure to the east, thus giving it the potential to produce excellent wines. The complex soils are composed of limestone, clay and marl, silt and scree. GRAPE VARIETY : 100% Pinot Noir WINEMAKING : Manual harvest. Grape sorting. Destemming of half the grapes . Fermentation in wooden cask. Maturation in oak barrels for 18 months FOOD PAIRING All red meats, especially strong flavored meats like game, but can also be served with fishes in red sauce. Also pairs well with strong cheeses like Citeaux, Epoisses or l’Ami du Chambertin. SERVICE TEMPERATURE : 16°C AGEING POTENTIAL : Ready to drink, will develop during the next 15 years
