This beautiful farm on the east-facing slopes of the magnificent Constantiaberg and barely 12km from False Bay, originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa. First sold as a 200 morgen sub-division to Cornelis Brink in 1773, Buitenverwachting changed hands all too often. And yet it flourished as a wine farm, due mainly to the 90 000 vines planted in 1825 by Ryk Arnoldus Cloete, brother of the famous Hendrik Cloete of Constantia. Imbued with a sense of history, the Mueller family has retraced the roots of Buitenverwachting. The farm was lovingly restored to its former glory while extensive planting of the most selected of cultivars was initiated. The result was a maiden grape harvest of 100 tonnes - the first harvest the farm had seen in 30 years. An historic achievement that lived up to its name: Buitenverwachting - “Beyond Expectation.

O
ur vineyards in Stellenbosch are planted on ancient, decomposed granite soils, consisting of Oakleaf and Tukulu profiles. This wonderful soil combined with our altitude and cool weather result
in a very unique terroir which is extremely sought after. Our Elim Vineyards are only 17km from the sea, and this unique maritime climate with salty breezes compliment the Estcourt soils we are blessed with. The vineyards struggle against the elements in this unforgiving cool climate, to produce some of the most unique flavour profiles in the country. All the vineyards are planted on a five wire hedge system and are up to ten years old. Hidden Valley Wines are farmed in accordance with ecologically sensitive farming practices. This entails careful consideration as to how we prepare the soils, nurture the vines and conserve non agricultural lands. This considerate approach is part of the core philosophy of “working with nature, where we produce wines sustainably and responsibly.

Terra Del Capo Pinot Grigio Fruity, crisp pineapple and Golden Delicious apple fragrances. Similar apple flavours transfer to the mouth, with elder flower and honeysuckle nuances. Tangy peach with a lively lime zest note is apparent too. The wine offers ample refreshment and crisp appeal by virtue of its integration of fruit and acidity.

KANONKOP ESTATE, a 4th generation family winery, is arguably South Africa’s leading red wine estate and boasts many local and more so prominent international awards: Such as the Robert Mondavi trophy for International Winemaker of the Year (twice), Pichon Longueville Trophy for the best blended red wine in the world (three times) and the Perold Trophy for the best Pinotage (4 times) all at the International Wine and Spirit Competition held annually in London.
A Fa mi ly Tr a d i t i o n Kanonkop is a fourth generation family estate, which was originally purchased by JW Sauer, a cabinet member in the parliament of the Union of South Africa. His son Paul Oliver Sauer, also a cabinet minister, took over the reins from his father and in 1968 was joined by Springbok rugby great Jan “Boland” Coetzee. Mary Sauer, daughter of Paul Sauer, inherited the Estate. She married Jannie Krige, a rugby administrator at the University of Stellenbosch, who took early retirement and together with Coetzee made the first estate bottled wines in 1973. Beyers Truter joined the estate in 1980 with the departure of Coetzee, and together with Johann and Paul, sons of Mary and Jannie, continued the traditions developed on this highly prized estate. More recently Beeslaar, who joined the team in 2002, has taken over from Beyers and continues the good work passed down from generation to generation. c o n t a c t t e l l : +27 (0)21 884 4656

Established in 1989, Bouchard Finlayson is a boutique winery dedicated to the making of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines of outstanding quality. Located in the wine ward of Walker Bay, an hour and a half from Cape Town, the 125-hectare property currently has 22 hectares under vines; the rest is mountain land, covered by the spectacular indigenous ‘fynbos’ flora of the Western Cape. With only a small portion of the farm under vine Bouchard Finlayson is able to ensure the conservancy of the mountain land. Bouchard Finlayson’s flagship wine is the Galpin Peak Pinot Noir, which has won many awards and accolade. Growing on the slopes of Galpin Peak, repeated vintages of this path-blazing wine continue to reflect a true celebration of Pinot-crafting, consistently endorsing the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley as a jewel in the hunt for this illusive grape.

B
oekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, the farm's name means "ravine of the Boekenhout"
(pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard
planting programme was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier. Today Boekenhoutskloof is home to The Wolftrap, Porcupine Ridge, The Chocolate Block and the Boekenhoutskloof range. Marc Kent is the chief winemaker and driving force behind the dynamic farm. A maverick spirit, Marc is unafraid to experiment with the unconventional, but his principal commitment is to quality on every level and in every detail. Hystrix Africaeaustralis - The crested porcupines are widely represented in Southern Africa. They are covered in spines and quills which when raised, present a formidable fence of sharp spikes. They are noisy animals and move with ponderous gait accompanied by much snuffling and grunting. A diet of potatoes, pumpkin and root vegetables tend to make them a problem in farming areas. They are, however, nocturnal and shy and the families that reside at Boekenhoutskloof are very welcome. Marc Kent travelled in the southern Rh么ne and northern Spain, Priorat, and realized that by blending Cabernet Sauvignon into a Rh么neblend, the structure and weight of the blend could potentially improve dramatically, and therefore started blending the Chocolate Block. The blend started with 15 barrels back in 2002. The blend consistently grew in volume with the 2011 vintage being 1432 barrels (of 225L each)
