The project for an exhibition gallery aims at reconnecting the longitudinal system of Via Dante to the system of landmarks and squares that dominates the ancient city c e n t e r. T h e b u i l d i n g ’s v o l u m e s t a k e u p t h e s c a l e o f t h e p r e - e x i s t i n g m e d i - e v a l u r b a n fabric and they are charaterized by a dinamic section that compresses and expands the interior spaces.

A N D R E A D I F R A N C O - INDIVIDUAL WORK The building fills a huge urban void in Potsdamer Strasse, just nex t to the Neue N a t i o n a l g a l e r i e b y M i e s v a n d e r R o h e a n d n o t f a r f r o m t h e H a n s S c h a r o u n ’s P h i l h a r monic. The art factory is composed of a thin blade made of glass six meters thick, in which are concentrated the workspaces for digital art. In the basement an exhibition space is placed. This big room is illuminated by natural light thanks to the presence of some patios.

The first is about the organization of a public park that connects the tram stop t o t h e n e w t u b e s t a t i o. T h e s e c o n d p r o j e c t i n v o l v e s t h e r e o r g a n i z a t i o n o f AV M A k s a r a y, an underground market that consists of a large space whose potential is unvoiced.

What remains today of the ancient Bocoleon Palace is a mighty wall made of bricks and stones that once was the defensive element of the building. In the past the wall was d i r e c t l y l a p p e d b y t h e w a v e s o f t h e s e a , b u t t o d a y i t h a s l o s t i t ’s o r i g i n a l r e l a t i o n s h i p w i t h t h e w a t e r a n d n o w i t f a c e s t h e ke n n e d y h i g w a y. T h e m a i n t h e m e t h a t g e n e r a t e s t h e p r o j e c t i s t h e “e d g e ”, w i c h m u s t b e c o m e a v i e w point. The ancient giant order marble frames of the windows that still present in the wall seemed perfect for the realization of the view point. Due to the elevated position of the windows, in comparison with the level of the road, it seemed possible to create a s p a c e t h a t w o u l d r e s t o r e a t l e a s v i s u a l l y t h e o l d b u i l d i n g ’s r e l a t i o n s h i p w i t h t h e s e a . It was thought to realize a building for an art gallery that develops around the ancient b o u n d a r y , l e a v i n g u n c h a n g e d t h e m a t e r i a l i t y o f t h e w a l l ’s f a c a d e .

A L E S S A N D R A Z A N E L L I - C A R O L M O N T I C E L L I - GROUP WORK The project consists in the volumetric extension and general redevelopment of a housing b u i l d i n g t h a t b e l o n g s t o A l e r, i n t h e d i s t r i c t o f L o r e n t e g g i o , M i l a n . T h e b u i l d i n g i s o n t h e corner of a block made of in-line housing buildings all of the same type. The target building has been expanded by adding box-elements on the facade. These boxes are built with a steel structure and on the front elevation are completely glazed in order to provide views of the surrounding vegetation.
