Hello and War Eagle! We are very excited about re-engaging our alumni and this issue of the Alota is our first step in the program. The Alota will help us reconnect with almost 2,000 AI brothers from across the country. The goal of our Alumni Program is to rebuild the relationship between the active and alumni brothers. We realize many of you have not enjoyed the best experience when visiting the chapter over the past few years but we hope you will give us

the opportunity to win you back! Our goal for this chapter of Pi Kappa Phi is to become what it always should have been, the best fraternity at Auburn University. We cannot do this without your support. I also believe that support is not only about donations. Of more importance is coming by to tailgate with us, participating in Push America events, and attending initiation. Just spending time getting to know all the new brothers. We also want you to know that this

newsletter is for the alumni and we need your input for it to be successful. Along with communicating with the chapter, we want this to be an outlet for communication with other brothers from your time at Auburn. We want you to be able to announce events of your own to all the brothers at one time, thereby increasing the amount of time we can all spend together. Mark Krystyn

Push America Update Push America involvement is being completely revamped along with the rest of the new Alpha Iota chapter. Over the past two years, we have participated in many fundraising events for Push America. Events included Give-a-Push weekends, wheelchair-ramp building, and Push Camps all across the Some brothers of Alpha Iota after building a state of Alabama. Brothers wheelchair ramp for a disabled family in participate through IMPACT, Shorter, AL. which is a volunteer organization through Auburn University that sponsors local elementary school visits, humane society visits, food banks, and retirement homes. The spring fundraiser for Push was “Pie a Pi Kapp” where

brothers raised money by getting “pied” in the face. Also, brother Nelson Davis will be participating in Gear Up Florida, a bicycle ride in Florida raising awareness for Push America. Please contact me about future Push events if you are interested in getting involved.

From the Chapter Advisor Steve Gosser Yes, you can feel good recommending that your son or someone else’s pledge Pi Kapp at Auburn! Why? Pi Kappa Phi has more to offer - giving kids an environment to learn and practice what they really need in life: important lessons like Some Brothers and dates at the famous Café building and sustaining du Monde in New Orleans relationships, taking responsibility and persevering in the pursuit of goals, and making good choices rather than facing Pi Kappa Phi negative consequences.

War Eagle!

Here’s a look at today’s Auburn Pi Kapps. 66 brothers strong and consistently demonstrating rush success greater than competing small fraternity chapters at Auburn. Last year – the first year of the “new” Alpha Iota – Chad Hamman (Jasper) put together a terrific summer rush program. Curtiss Fry, the Vice Archon (Rochester, NY), is now lining up events for this summer and next fall. We desperately need any and all of your rushee recommendations. What kids do you know coming to Auburn next fall? Please contact Curtiss or me and the

guys will be sure to make the contact and help out anyone feeling new to Auburn and a little overwhelmed. Last semester the chapter ranked 8th out of 28 fraternities on campus in scholarship with a 2.7 GPA. Lots of kids have some kind of scholarships. Pi Kapps at Auburn today have plenty of opportunity to discover what we oldsters finally figure out: the depth and value and quality of life is wrapped in the saying “learn, earn and then return. Formal was in New Orleans this spring and more than fifty guys plus dates stumbled off of buses for what was most of their first trip to the French Quarter. No reportable damage + no jail time = outstanding success. I just wish we could have done that way back in the day. With all the activity, fun and success, there are many ways the chapter can improve and grow. First and most importantly is rush. Rush is all about relationships. These guys love hanging out

together – it’s great to see, but we always need more referrals, PLEASE! Secondly, we need to continue to create events where alumni can come together and enjoy remembering. Events like the Alum golf outing last August, the Biscuits ballgame during the hottest week last June and the Christmas cocktail party in Montgomery were a blast. The guys also need to develop a parents club to make sure all parents (the major stockholders and stakeholders in their children’s education) are kept informed and given chances to lend a hand. There is much to do. Please don’t be a stranger. Stop by your fraternity. Blake, Hanni, Bo, Fred, David, Tom, Will, Johnny, Alan, Bill, and Brian are some who made it by last fall. And we’re expecting you to drop in too. Call or email me anytime.

2nd Annual Alumni Golf Tournament Alpha Iota will be holding its 2nd Annual Alumni Golf Tournament this August at the Robert Trent Jones Grand National Club. Last year’s turnout was great and another big crowd is expected this summer. Alumni, active brothers,

and parents are cordially invited to attend. All proceeds go to Push America. The reception for the Tournament will be held on Friday, August 13th, while the Tournament will be held that Saturday, the 14th. You will be receiving more

Alpha Iota Club to Renovate House This Summer The Alpha Iota Club is pleased to announce that over the summer and early fall 2010, the Alpha Iota Club, with assistance from Pi Kappa Phi Properties will be completing an $800,000 renovation to the chapter house at 861 Lem Morrison Drive. Many months of planning and feasibility studies have been completed and construction is set to begin over the summer. Some of the most important work that will be completed includes renovation of the entire dorm wing of the property, replacement of windows and doors, site work and grading, as well as installation of a fire sprinkler system throughout the entire property. Auburn University has required that all fraternity houses on campus install fire sprinklers as well as upgrade life and safety systems. Special thanks go to Brothers Ernest Johnson and the Alpha Iota Club for their diligent efforts in this project. In addition, Alpha Iota Brothers and architects Wilbur and Sommerville Hill have been providing the lead in project design. Brothers Jake Kyser, Alan Walker and Jeff Richards have also assisted in the effort. We encourage all alumni to stop by the property in the fall to see the progress!

Alpha Iota Going Forward

Brothers of Pi Kappa Phi after re-chartering in October of 2009.

I believe that my chapter can become an ideal chapter, and I shall do my share to make it so.

Pi Kappa Phi Alpha Iota Chapter 861 Lem Morrison Drive Auburn, Alabama 36832

After re-chartering this fall, we are really excited about the opportunities we have to build Pi Kappa Phi into the best fraternity in Auburn. The alumni play an integral role in helping us achieve our goals for the future. We are starting construction on the house this summer, scheduled to be completed by January, 2011. Feel free to drop by the house at any time to talk about our future plans and see the progress that Alpha Iota has made. We cannot stress the importance of a strong relationship with the alumni of Alpha Iota. As the head of alumni relations, it is my job to serve as the liaison between the alumni and the chapter. I would love to hear any comments, suggestions, or questions that you may have. Please feel free to call or email. Thanks, Andrew Eshelman Alumni Relations 615-480-1668 ape0001@auburn.edu
