RECRUITMENT

ALPHA NUEWS THE ALUMNI NEWSLETTER OF PI KAPPA PHI AT THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

FALL—SPRING 2013

2013 was one of the most successful years ever for recruitment for us. With the hard work of our Archon Munib Lohrasbi, Vice Archon Josbel Pichardo, and Rush Chairman Paul Hudson, we have seen two of our largest pledge classes ever, Eta and Theta Class. Sixteen new brothers were initiated in the past school year, and we are excited to see them develop into the new leaders of Alpha Nu. In addition, Theta Class brothers Zev Mintz and David Straka Jr. will be attending Pi Kapp College this summer at H.Q. in Charlotte, NC. We are now at a total of 43 members, the most in our young history. We look to continue this trend in the future.

LETTER FROM THE ARCHON

Brother Chris Pirkl Chris lives in Columbus, OH, and is Financial Analyst for JPMorgan Chase, and recently became engaged to his girlfriend.

Brother Dan Myers

Brother Eddie Toncel

The 2012 school year was one of the most eventful in Alpha Nu’s young history. In the past year, we saw successes in recruitment, victories in the Greek Community, a focus on philanthropy, and radical renovations to our home. We saw the addition of sixteen new brothers to our chapter who are ready to step up and become the new leaders in Alpha Nu. Additionally, we saw the departure of our longstanding Chapter Advisor and brother Dwayne Todd (Alpha Eta, Samford) and our longtime landlord Dave Sinha. In short, we have seen our chapter grow in size and morale, and we are very excited for what is in store for us in the future. We are working hard to make Pi Kapp one of the top fraternities at Ohio State and we’re excited to keep you updated and involved as we strive to become the ideal chapter.

Dan recently relocated to Ocala, FL, and now works for Lockheed Martin.

Yours in Pi Kappa Phi, Brother Munib Lohrasbi, Archon Eddie lives in Washington D.C., works for the Spanish Embassy, and just received his Master’s degree from American University.

FALL—SPRING 2013

SOCIAL SUCCESS

This past year, Alpha Nu experienced unsurpassed success on the social front. We spent our gameday Saturdays enjoying our first ever football block with the women of Alpha Omicron Pi during fall semester. In addition, our pairing with the lovely ladies of Alpha Chi Omega placed first in Homecoming Week, and our pairing with Alpha Omicron Pi placed second in Greek Week. Next year, we will again be enjoying football block with the ladies of Alpha Omicron Pi as well as the men of Phi Kappa Tau, and continue to become a dominant force in the Greek Community at Ohio State.

ALPHA NU WELCOMES NEW CHAPTER ADVISOR Alpha Nu has recently seen the exit of our longtime friend and brother, Mr. Dwayne Todd (Alpha Eta, Samford), as our Chapter Advisor, and he assisted us in finding his replacement. Mr. Chris Wasielewski, pictured left, took over as Chapter Advisor during the past fall semester of 2012. Mr. Wasielewski attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and there he became a brother of the Zeta Iota Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. During his time at Zeta Iota, Mr. Wasielewski served as Warden and Chaplain on the Executive Council, and among other accomplishments, organized successful fundraisers including a 5k that raised $6,000 and annual haunted house tour that raised $1,000 annually for Push America. Additionally, Mr. Wasielewski played an integral role with Mr. Todd in helping our chapter secure our charter. Mr. Wasielewski has already helped our chapter find a Financial Advisor; Mr. Matthew Dasta, a chapter brother from Zeta Iota, and has provided much time and energy in offering guidance on important subjects within the chapter. We are excited to have him on board, and we look forward to working with him on matters within Alpha Nu in the future.

FALL—SPRING 2013

NEW LANDLORD BRINGS RENOVATIONS BACK HOME

Mr. Tom Zack recently purchased our chapter house at 200 E. 15th Ave. this past fall semester, and has tirelessly worked to make renovations to accommodate our chapter. In the fall, he pledged to open more rooms on the second floor of the west side of the house, of which we did not previously have access to. Pictured left are some of the new rooms opened on the second floor. It hasn’t ended there, Mr. Zack is also looking to make an industrial style kitchen on the east side of the house and give us more access to the basement next year. We are excited to have 20 brothers living in next year with no non-fraternity members. We look forward to seeing more and more renovations to our home on Greek Row.

UNPARELLED PHILANTHROPIC SUCCESS Thanks to the hard work of our Push Chairman Kyle Maxey, our chapter raised nearly $1,700 for Push America in the spring 2013 semester alone; more than double our average dollars raised per member since our re-chartering! Alpha Nu held it’s first ever Kick for a Cause Soccer Tournament on March 24 at the Lincoln Tower fields. While the players were forced to play in snowy conditions, the event was huge a success with 14 teams from the Greek and Buckeye community in competition. Just as in years past, we held our annual Pedal for Push week at the Wexner Plaza from April 15 to April 19. Brothers pedaled continually on stationary bikes for 100 hours straight, and happily were pied in the face with our always popular “Pie a Pi Kapp.” And much thanks to our alumnus and past Push Chairman Eddie Isabella for his generous donation to our fundraising efforts!
