WINNIPEG – Some 1,300 people hit the Red River at the Forks in Winnipeg to paddle dragon boats in the annual Manitoba Dragon Boat Festival over the weekend of September 9 to 12. The event was in support of the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. According to organizers, the festival has raised more than $1.25 million over the past four years for pediatric clinical trials, and care and support for children fighting cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society’s Dragon Boat Festivals offer five events throughout the year. The long brightly coloured canoelike dragon boats are powered by teams of 20 paddlers, a steerer and a drummer, and feature a dragon head on the prow. Regina Ramos Urbano paddled for ChemoSavvy Thunder, a team consisting entirely of breast cancer survivors. “A cancer diagnosis can be devastating, See DRAGON p17

#SorryNotSorry So veteran journalist Ed Lingao has apologized to President Rodrigo Duterte, the public, and his colleagues for an error that made its way to a live breaking news report on September 5, 2016 on his network, TV5. According to Lingao himself, he “read onair a breaking news item that President Duterte called President Obama ‘bastos.’” “Unfortunately, that breaking news item was written in error and is not accurate. The President did not call Obama ‘bastos;’ what he said in his ambush interview in Laos was that it would be ‘improper and highly bastos’ to bring up the issue of EJKs during the bilateral meet,” he said. Lingao’s apology was actually surprising given that hardly any media person/company does it these days. “I am not authorized to issue any statement, or give any apology on behalf of TV5 where I am an anchor/presenter, so this is a completely personal post on my

part. I try to fight for the things I believe in, but I am also ready to apologize for mistakes which I am a part of. As the presenter who read the erroneous breaking story, I apologize to the President, to the public, and to my colleagues for that error,” Lingao said. Any decent person would of course accept such an apology, and I would like to think Duterte himself was magnanimous about it (he hasn’t actually said he has done so, though). But what throws me off about Lingao’s apology is that he also tried to blame someone else for it. Twice: “As I understand it, TV5 officials are now looking into how this error was made.” (First paragraph) and: “That error is now being looked into.” (Second paragraph) In other words, Lingao was saying he only read the news out loud but he wasn’t responsible for making the error. Someone else did it, and they are going to find

out who. In today’s hashtag lingo, #SorryNotSorry It’s easy for Lingao to apologize, but he must also take responsibility for the gaffe even though he was just the newsreader at the time. Why was it so easy for him to believe the worst of Duterte? I mean, when Lingao got the copy, why didn’t it occur to him to ask the reporter first if it were true? Why was it so believable that Duterte would call the President of the United States “bastos?” He can’t claim time constraint because as a journalist, he surely knows the very first line (Accuracy) in the Journalists’ Code of Ethics: “I shall scrupulously report and interpret the news, taking care not to suppress essential facts nor to distort the truth by omission or improper emphasis. I recognize the duty to air the other side and the duty to correct substantive errors promptly.” Sure Duterte has a foul mouth, and he did once curse the Pope (for which he apologized). But that doesn’t mean we can and should believe all subsequent reports about his colourful language and who the person is at the receiving end. The default attitude seems to

be, “Oh, Duterte called Obama ‘bastos’? He must have really said it so I’ll go ahead and report it on live TV.” And it’s not just Lingao; editors of newspapers also have this attitude. When reporters present their copies, they don’t seem to see the need to go to the video footage or audio recording which, in this day and age of digital social media, are up on the Internet within minutes after the President delivers a speech. “Oh, Duterte called Obama a son of a bitch? He must have really said it so I’ll go ahead and print it.” This is why the traditional media are slowly — or maybe quickly — losing their stronghold on the people. While many journalists claim that bloggers and other online writers are not reliable sources of news, they are actually showing themselves to be the ones who cannot be trusted. “Anti-Canadian values” – Trumpism in Canada The American presidential election and the comments of President Duterte dominate the news cycle. We have grown accustomed to outlandish statements by Donald Trump and the colourful language of the President of the Philippines – but what about Canada? Are Canadians that different from the others or just more reserved and respectful in our comments? The reality is that some Canadians do exhibit attitudes and sentiments that might fit the Clinton description of “deplorables” but that does not mean that a majority of Canadians hold the same attitude. It is a good time, however, to sit back and listen to some of the noise coming out about immigrants from Canadian politicians. We as a country also have persons with extreme opinions about immigrants, as many newcomers will attest. A case in point is the current Tory leadership race. Federal Conservative candidate MP Kellie Leitch has introduced the notion of screening newcomers for “antiCanadian values.” If you are not sure what that means, then go back to the movie Good Morning Vietnam where the intelligence officers ask citizens if their name is “Charlie” and if they respond “yes” they are shot. If this sounds first stupid and second unenforceable, it should. The idea of screening

newcomers or refugees on “antiAmerican” values is something MP Leitch appears to have taken from the rhetoric of Donald Trump. In the United States there is a suspicion that his language is part of a way to vilify all Muslims, and therefore all persons coming from countries where Islam is the dominant faith. Trump’s appeal to make American great appears to be little more than a way to take America back to a time when the white race dominated. What about our Canadian version of Trump? MP Leitch was one of the strongest proponents of the controversial promise under the former Harper government to open a tip line for so-called barbaric practices, such as having the RCMP enforce a way aimed at cracking down on forced marriages, keeping polygamists out of the country and even forbidding the public wearing of a hijab. At the core of the current debate in Canada is a questionnaire she sent out to her supporters asking them about vetting would-be immigrants and refugees for “anti-Canadian values.” The actual question, from the Leith campaign, reads: “Should the Canadian government screen potential immigrants for anti-Canadian values as part of its normal screening for refugees and landed immigrants.” The survey does not explain what is meant by “anti-Canadian values”

nor has MP Leitch clarified what she means. She has thrown the term into the leadership race as part of an apparent strategy to win the Conservative leadership. This sounds like the way Trump won the primaries in the United States nomination. He is famously anti-Mexican, anti-Black, antiIslam, anti-gay, etc. The approach apparently works and Donald Trump is still on the main stage spewing out hate and division. He has a legitimate chance of becoming the next president. If this is a scary thought, then come back to the Canadian political scene. The anti-immigrant focus of MP Leitch is not substantially different from that of Donald Trump. She also has significant support amongst potential Canadian voters. A recent Forum Research Inc. poll shows that 67 per cent of Canadians favour screening immigrants on “antiCanadian values” with the number increasing to 87 per cent amongst those who identify as conservative. What has changed in Canada from November 2015 when the Harper government lost office partly because of a perceived antiimmigrant approach? In past polls Canada was still distinguished by a positive attitude about immigration and pride for providing a safe haven for over 25,000 Syrian refugees. Have we changed that much in the last year? I think not, but the rhetoric from the south

and the apparent popularity of Donald Trump’s racist attitude and campaign of hate and division does play to a certain percentage of voters both north and south of the border. What comes next from MP Leitch? I don’t think she is in favour of building a wall in the north to prevent immigrants making their way into Canada’s north. But she has demonstrated that controversial comments work. She has gained attention for herself with the idea of screening for “anti-Canadian values.” Is she serious, or like Donald Trump, just spouting things to capture a news cycle? More on wolf whistles Dear Readers, Last month’s column was about sexual harassment now being labeled a hate crime in Nottinghamshire, England. This change was made to encourage reporting, which will result in better support being offered to people who have been sexually harassed. One reason these incidents don’t get reported is because society, in general, isn’t very supportive of victims of sexual harassment – especially if the offender is a well-known public figure. Common attitudes and beliefs actually encourage victim blaming while excusing the harasser’s behaviour. Even people who want to be supportive don’t always know what to say or do. This month’s column is a summary of ways to support someone who has shared an experience of being sexually harassed. Firstly, don’t laugh or minimize the person’s experience or tell them they are overreacting. Don’t justify or make excuses for the harasser’s behaviour. By doing this you are basically telling the person that you don’t care about their feelings or about what has happened to them. It sounds as if you are more concerned with protecting the harasser’s behaviour than supporting your friend or family member. This can happen without you even realizing why. Ate Anna suggests that these behaviours are so much a part of our culture that we don’t see them for what they really are. Show your support by listening as the person shares their story. They are not complaining – it is part of the process of dealing with their experience. Stay calm when reacting to what the person tells you. You may understandably react with strong feelings because someone you care about has been hurt. You might even want to do something to punish or hurt the harasser. It is more appropriate to ask the victim what they need or feel would be helpful. Offer options, but don’t pressure someone to report the incident or confront the harasser. You are not the person who was harassed and, even if you have had such an experience, you cannot know exactly what this individual is feeling. As well, don’t try to speak on behalf of the victim – you are violating confidentiality. Reporting or going public about the experience is a very difficult decision. It actually takes away the victim’s personal power when

others tell them which choices they should make. We each have our own way of dealing with situations like this. Don’t try to make the victim responsible for the harasser’s future behaviour. For example, “If you don’t report this, it’ll happen to other women.” If the harasser continues the behaviour, they are to blame. As a society, we have to end victim blaming and work at creating a safer environment for reporting sexual harassment or assault. On the other hand, don’t be afraid to intervene when you think you see something that looks like harassment. Interrupt and ask “Hey, is everything OK here?” You may feel self-conscious and it could be embarrassing if nothing was happening. But it is the lesser risk, and if someone is being harassed they know that others are aware of it. Develop an awareness of your own behaviours. Many people either don’t think that how they behave is harassment or they rationalize what they say and do. If you are uncertain whether a joke or compliment would be appreciated, you can ask. If an interaction leaves you feeling “weird,” ask yourself why. Get another perspective by asking others for their opinion on what happened. It is easy to sit back and ignore the problem of sexual harassment, or to let other people take on the challenge. If more people, especially men, spoke up to say that this kind of behaviour is not

acceptable, we might begin to see a change in societal norms. It has been successful with other issues in Canada – like drinking and driving. When you see a friend catcall or invade the personal space of someone else say, “Hey, that’s not OK!” and do your best to explain why. Speaking up lets harassers know that other people don’t agree with their behaviour. Speaking up also lets victims know that people are on their side. We all have a responsibility to consider the ways in which we unknowingly support society’s beliefs about sexual harassment simply by living out the status quo. While wolf whistles may seem harmless, they still send the message that women’s bodies exist to be judged and commented on by others. Ate Anna encourages everyone to think about this issue and take whatever steps they can to encourage societal change and a safer environment for victims to report harassment when it does happen. Take care, Ate Anna Ate Anna welcomes your questions and comments. Write to Ate Anna, Suite 200-226 Osborne St. N., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1V4 or e-mail info@serc. mb.ca. Visit us at www.serc. mb.ca. I still can’t believe it! Let me start off by saying that I’m writing this article from my apartment in Toronto. “Hello Winnipeg!” The reason I’m here is because I’m pursuing one of my dreams, which is to go to music school. Let me tell you a little bit about the journey. I first discovered my passion for music at a very early age through the simple things. For example, it was very common for me to sing along to whatever was on the radio while sitting in the car seat in the back of our family van. Even if the song was new to me, by the end the car ride you can bet I had already memorized the song. However, it was not until high school when I started taking music more seriously. I was involved in every performing arts program you could think of and it truly made my high school years incredibly worthwhile! By the time senior year kicked in, it was time for me to start applying for post-secondary education and I was faced with a tough decision: “What did I want to do after high school?” At the time, I already wanted to apply for music school but after discussing with my parents, together we decided it was not yet time. My parents were really insistent that I finish a degree first before I go ahead and pursue other goals. That was a tough reality for me to face and it took a while for me to accept that my dream of going to music school would have to wait. However, I respected my parents’ wishes and trusted that it was truly for my own good. With that said, I went on to complete a four-year business administration degree at

the University of Winnipeg. Looking back now, I can honestly say that staying back to complete my university education was one of the best decisions I ever made. This path may not work for everyone, but it definitely worked out very well for me. It was only during my studies in university that I became more heavily involved in the church and really recognized God’s presence in my life. I was given the opportunity to be a youth leader for the parish youth ministry and to coordinate the Christmas concerts, which gave me a platform to share my love of music and God. Through learning more about God and how He loves us, I better distinguished my talent in music as a gift from God and that it is to be treated as such. During this time I also discovered my talent for song writing and a lot of inspiration was drawn during these formative years. At the same time, I was also able to land a job at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet teaching Hip Hop to children ages four to 14. After graduation, I decided that it was still “not yet time” and instead landed a full time job at the Heart and Stroke Foundation where I coordinated some of the major community engagement programs. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I took it as an opportunity to gain more experience as well as to “fundraise for my dreams.” All in all, the years of university education, church, and work were integral to further build the foundation for me moving and going to music school. I would not have wanted to do it any other way.

Surprise Bon Voyage Celebration hosted by Yvanne’s family and friends

Opening Jed Medela’s concert in 2012. Photo by Maui Zamora, MP Studium In January 2016 I finally decided, “it’s time.” I applied to all the music schools on my list and, thanks be to God, got accepted to all of them! It was as if God was saying, “I know you have been waiting for this for a long time so here, have your pick!” I also had full support from my family, especially my parents, which felt incredible. Everything just seemed to land so perfectly that it was and remains so surreal. I still can’t believe it! I’m currently enrolled at Seneca College in the Independent Performance and Song Writing program. Another dream of mine is to have my own album of original songs. So I am looking forward to learning all about how to properly share my music and connect with fellow singer-songwriters. I cannot wait to see how this journey unfolds. I suppose if there were any parting words I would like to

Yvanne at age five, “composing” songs include in this article it would be that some dreams really take time and we should not to be discouraged by how long it may take. Also, everything truly happens for a reason and we have to trust in our “big man upstairs” that He has a beautiful plan for us. Lastly, everyday is a gift and there is always something to celebrate. So to all my fellow dreamers and doers out there: keep at it and don’t give up! About the author: Yvanne currently studies Independent Performance and Songwriting at Seneca College in Toronto, ON

where she currently resides. Prior to Yvanne’s move, she completed a Business Administration degree (University of Winnipeg) and International Event and Wedding Planning Professional certificate (QC Career School). Above all, Yvanne is a big dreamer and she is delighted to have the opportunity to share her adventures with her readers here in the Pilipino Express in hopes to encourage others to follow their dreams as well. Ironman MontTremblant finishers Let’s us meet fellow Winnipeggers Melody Balane and Murray Vanderpont, who recently accomplished the Ironman race (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) held in MontTremblant, Quebec on August 20, 2016. How did they get into triathlon? Melody’s triathlon career began went she decided to see Coach Wanda Mathers to learn how to swim back in the winter of 2011, when she was 41 years old. She quickly found out that in order to work with Wanda, she had to agree to aspire to become a triathlete. Wanda knew that Mel had a strong background in running and martial arts – the perfect candidate for triathlon. Murray decided to give triathlon a go after watching triathlon during the Pan-Am Games held in Winnipeg in 1999. That was coupled with turning 40 in 2000 and noticing a lack of fitness and increasing pant size. Having always been a swimmer, and having enjoyed running in the Manitoba marathon relay, it seemed like an interesting and exciting road to better fitness. What made you decide to take on Ironman Mont-Tremblant? This was a joint decision by both of us. Having done the Ironman distance race of 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42.2 km run at Challenge Penticton in 2014 together, and having heard so many excellent reports about the race from other triathletes, we decided to visit Mont-Tremblant during the 2015 race as volunteers. We fell in love with the race venue. So after spending several days checking out the course and taking the pulse of the community, plus full day of our vacation volunteering in the transition tents, we signed up as competitors for 2016. What were your specific preparations for the race? We built a training program around the workouts available through Manitoba Masters Aquatic Club, and other bike

workouts available from various triathlon clubs. With the help of coach and trainer Fern McIver, we developed a 24-week workout plan that provided specific workouts six days per week, with a steady build towards race day. Through the winter off-season 2015-16 we attended regular strength training sessions, Master’s swims, track workouts at Max Bell, indoor bike trainer workouts with two triathlon clubs and yoga on occasion. We also were very disciplined to warm up before our workout and stretch for 15 or more minutes afterwards. We also made efforts to maintain good nutrition by eating home prepared meals, and by limiting our intake of junk food, baked goods and alcohol. The other preparation was to try as much as sleep as possible in our busy lives. How was your performance overall in Ironman MontTremblant? Because we had chosen to run the race together, our finish time was the same, 14 hours. We were thrilled with this result as it is almost 60 minutes quicker than the same distance race we completed together in Penticton in 2014. However, because we did the race together, we could not maximize our personal performances. Murray started his swim with the men +50 age group six minutes ahead of Mel who started with the women 40-49 group. Thus Murray waited for Mel in the swim to bike transition. Mel on the other hand had incredible energy for the run and could easily have done the marathon much faster than her run time indicated. However, we stuck to the plan as team M&M and finished together. How do you manage your time between working full-time and training for the Ironman? The two critical things to have firmly established are: being fully committed to the goal of completing an Ironman and having a reasonable training plan, detailed day by day that you are committed to follow as closely as possible. It is all about discipline

to follow the plan and being firm in your self understanding that you want to do this thing and are prepared make the daily decisions necessary to move you closer to your goal. It is also very important that you communicate to family, friends and your employer that you are training for Ironman. They need to understand how important this is to you. What’s your most indispensable gear? This is a difficult question because triathlon is very “gear” oriented. But if forced to choose, Mel and Murray agree the bike is number one. The race involves riding 180 km distance. This takes most riders between six and nine hours to complete. If you don’t like (maybe that should be “love”) your bike, the sport could be rather joyless. Training involves about 10 long rides in excess of 100 km. This is on top of two shorter rides per week for 24 weeks, plus indoor sessions all winter each lasting a minimum of 1 hour. So, you spend an awful lot of time on your bike. It works best if you have a truly “loving” relationship with your bike. A close second is the wetsuit. A good wetsuit helps you look forward to those 60 minute and longer open water swims. The wetsuit keeps you safe and comfortable. And frankly, most of us look better in our wetsuits than we do in our swimsuits. Everyone looks awesome in a wet suit. What’s your favourite workout? Both Mel and I agree that any group workouts make our favourite list. While training for Ironman Mont Tremblant, we had the privilege of training with many other triathletes including several Sulong members. These triathletes kept us motivated, inspired and laughing. Winnipeg has a tremendously inviting, inclusive and supportive triathlon community. Norman is a member of Sulong Triathlon Group. For more information, please visit our website at www.sulongtriathlon. org and like us on Facebook at Sulong Triathlon Group.

Environment for learning

September is here! By the time you’re reading this, school will have resumed two weeks prior to publication. In my classroom, we are building our classroom environment and community together. The environment in which a child learns is crucial to his or her growth as a learner.

“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” – Alexander Den Heijer We make all adjustments we need to when gardening and the same is done for students. Similar to flowers, students also have different needs in their

environment. There is no “onesize-fits-all” style of teaching or environment that will cater to all students. What are we doing to make sure that our students have what they need? Parent tip: Environment Does your home have an area conducive to your children’s needs? I emphasize here that it is for the students, not for our idea of what they need. Growing up, I always required music, which, to most people, is a distraction. Adults taught me that “studying”

is done in quiet – and, if anything, this made me lose my focus, since I am a musical person – background noise has always helped me study. Ask your children what work best for them. If they aren’t sure, try a few different environments for learning and ask them where they learn best. This may look different for each child, and perhaps we cannot provide them perfect learning spaces. However, what we can do is ask – and get them thinking about their learning style. That way, when they do

find that learning environment (at school, a library, a coffee shop), they can seek that area for themselves to study. From the author: With five years of personal and professional development comes the need to grow in my field. This year, my goal is to start taking on more leadership roles – and to balance my time, this article will be on a monthly basis. Judianne Jayme is an educator teaching sixth grade and a division-wide mentor in the Winnipeg School Division.

Feng shui helps create a peaceful home It seems like for far too long the world has suffered one tragedy after another. The news is filled with death, senseless violence and destruction; and more concerning news arrives every day. Because it doesn’t look like the carnage will ever end, the misery won’t abate and the news will continue to be filled with one catastrophe after another, you need a place of refuge. That place can be your home. We look to our homes to provide a sensory reprieve, allowing us to unplug from the stresses of the outside, and the over-stimulating, and everincreasingly violent world. A home such as this nurtures and refreshes us. It does not calm us to a point that we’re ready to fall asleep, but it does provide the elements that enable us to regroup so that we can take on each new day and function effectively in the outside world each day rather than simply withdraw from it. However, creating a calming, relaxing home isn’t as easy as it seems. That’s because the elements of a serene space aren’t always obvious. Here are six elements that create a calm, peaceful and refreshing environment that will nurture and soothe you and create a peaceful sanctuary at your home. 1. Make your home mentally restful A home must be a line in the sand between you and troubling world events, stress-filled work, and — this is important here — electronic demands. Here are some important tips for getting mental rest from your home. Rein in the television. If your home is like many, the television is centrally located and turned on regardless of whether anyone is watching it or not. This gives

the TV superior status over the occupants in most homes. Cover it or move it to a less central or lessimportant location. Then, turn it on only if you will be sitting in front of it. Next, put the bed back in bedroom by taking the TV out of it. This room should only be used for rest and relaxation. Get organized. If you’re running around the house frantically searching for keys, your wallet, your purse, etc., then you are mentally agitated in what should be a calm environment. Just think about how annoying it is to always look for these things that you use every single day. Designate one single space for these essentials and be vigilant about putting them there as you come in the house. Then, go through the house and purge the unused items Be neat. Neatness counts a lot for creating visual calm. After all the disturbing images we see online and from media, we need visual calm. How to do that? Simple. Make the bed, hang up your towels, and put the dishes in the dishwasher. Pick up for a few minutes a few times a day and you’ll be amazed how things will stay picked up and how much nicer it is to be home. Use organizers and storage totes to keep things picked up and put away. Use the OFF button. Many computers, phones and tablets are never turned off. The constant bleating, beeping and buzzing means that you are always on demand. You’re being forever summoned, and for many, this is Pavlovian and they feel compelled to comply with each beep. You are in control of your electronics, they’re not in control of you, so silence your phone or tablet when you’re at home and check it only occasionally, or turn

them off entirely. 2. Make your home visually relaxing. Visual stimulation comes from a number of different places, but its impact on us is dramatic. We are bombarded today with unpleasant images and sights. Use these ideas for enhancing the visual rest in your space. Create views. We must be able to see out and beyond in order to rest our eyes and spirits. This is what makes mountains and beaches so appealing for a vacation – we crave the kind of rest that only long, open distances can provide. In a home, open shades and curtains or remove them altogether to view the garden or open spaces beyond. Planters and garden sculptures make for a beautiful view from indoors. If that’s not possible, select artwork that offers perspective and depth, such as those in landscapes. Make your home attractive. If you enjoy looking at decorating magazines with beautiful interiors, or enjoy being in beautiful spaces, you should try decorating your space so that it is appealing to you. 3. Make your home audibly soothing. Rather than hearing the TV drone on and on about all the happenings going on in the world, or the beeps and buzzes from your electronics, add sounds that will help soothe your mind and quiet your spirit. These tips will help. Just add water. Use a tabletop fountain or place a water feature in your home to add a soft sound. The gurgling, peaceful sound of water is extremely relaxing and enjoyable. Listen to calming music. Classical or new age music is very soothing. Listen to this when you come home, while relaxing in the house, or before bed. Or, play it on a whole house stereo system. Turn off the TV. Again, the TV reigns supreme on the stress

meter in a home. It just keeps yapping, like an unruly electronic dog. And, it’s always there. Learn to savour silence by turning it off. 4. Make your home truly restful. A restful home helps prepare us for the day ahead. When our home rejuvenates our mind and spirit, we are more relaxed and centered. Place emphasis on the bedroom. Bedrooms are a very important part of creating a restful home. Creating a tranquil space is key for being able to fully rest. • Select restful, earthy colours in the bedroom • Eliminate work objects, such as computers, work-related materials, and exercise equipment • Take mirrors off the wall if they reflect the bed - mirrors are stimulating according to feng shui and should not be in the bedroom • Take the TV out of the bedroom if you have a tendency to watch news or programs with violence before going to bed • Use textures such as chenille, satin, or silk in the bedroom to give tactile comfort and enjoyment 5. Make sure to incorporate natural elements Asian decorating is often associated with a calm environment. In particular, Japanese homes are seen as especially serene. This is because they rely on a heavy use of natural elements. Using these elements liberally creates a relaxing, natural and harmonious atmosphere,

effectively bringing the outside in. Simply employ elements like wood (healthy plants), stone, and water are all excellent elements to incorporate in your space. Plants in baskets or ceramic pots are wonderful additions. Wood or bamboo baskets add the wood element. Stones and iron objects also bring some of the outdoors in. 6. Make your home clean and comfortable Cleanliness is important. Unfortunately, most cleaning is done is a large spurt of time on a Saturday (if at all) and can take several hours. It’s better to keep cleaning items in a bucket or basket close to the location (such as a bathroom), and take one minute each day to wipe off counters, or run a brush through the toilet. Think how relaxing it is to come home to a clean house. If possible, hire cleaning help. Clean homes are relaxing homes. Ask anyone how he or she feels when he or she walks into his or her freshly cleaned home and most won’t answer, they’ll just sigh. See what I mean? Dolce Amore inspires viewers After taking several detours and side trips, a journey to forever concluded one of the most-watched Philippine TV series, Dolce Amore, which stars two of the most popular Pinoy love teams, Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil who play the lead roles of Serena and Tenten, and which was aired on TFC.tv and TFC IPTV. In an interview on the latenight talk show Tonight with Boy Abunda, Gil said he believed that the ending of the show was just perfect after all that Serena and Tenten went through. “I think sa lahat ng pinagdaanan nila, it’s a very beautiful ending for love to find its way again,” he explained. Many were also touched by the revelation of the real relationship and eventual reconciliation between Tenten and Luciana (Cherie Gil) after the bad blood between them in the past. Their tiff sprang from the suspected murder of Tenten’s brother (by law) Binggoy played by Kean Cipriano and the hidden wealth that Luciana tucked under Tenten’s company. Both the fans of the “LizQuen” love team and the series’ viewers tuned in to the “Most Beautiful Finale” on August 26, which

CRISTY... From page 12 sinabi.

CRISTY... From page 18 ito ngayon.

Can all of you please stop giving Janella live pets/ animals as gifts because she DOES NOT personally take care of them. The unwelcome responsibility of taking care of them ends up on the unwilling laps of her housemates – that’s us. So please… I love animals but

I can’t take care of so much. This is also one of the reasons our helpers don’t last long. Again, please. I miss living in a house that smells good, not taken over by animals taken for granted by a busy owner.

Bam Aquino at iba pang kapartido.

We were 12 government officials recommended by thenExecutive Secretary Rafael M. Salas. Dahil sa akin, our trip was delayed about two weeks. (But that is another story.) US President Barack Obama, to lecture him regarding human rights violation. *** True or not, ang dalawang alegasyong kaso kay Sen.

There’s a possibility that the current CJ Maria Lourdes Sereno ay mapalitan sa puwesto.

Virgen de los Remedios de Pampanga By Judianne Jayme Parishioners of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church gathered on September 8th, 2016 to celebrate the nativity of the Virgin Mary. The church was packed, with overflow into the lobby of the church – along with a fellowship after the service. In celebrating Mary, parishioners also took time to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the canonical coronation of Virgen de los Remedios de Pampanga, a title of the Virgin Mary, as venerated by the Catholic Church. During the service, Edda Pangilinan explained the history of how the Virgen de los Remedios became the patroness of Pampanga. In 1956, Pampanga was

literally on fire as farmers and peasants were up in arms against landowners. Four years prior, bishop Cesar Maria Guerrero turned to Virgen de los Remedios and established a crusade that took the image of the virgin in procession to rally Kapampangans to renew their faith. This drew thousands of devotees for prayer and penance creating the tradition of lamak, and Pampanga was spared further physical and spiritual destruction. On September 8th, 1956, the Pope sent the papal nuncio to Pampanga, canonically crowning the image of Virgen de los Remedios. 60 years later, Winnipeggers gathered to renew their devotion and to give thanks for the blessings they have received.
