The Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, presents
Hailed as the “Terminator of the nineties”, and in the tradition of such nail-biting sci-fi chiller thrillers as ‘BLADERUNNER’ and ALIEN’, ‘HARDWARE’ is the ultimate post-nuclear nightmare EVER. Director Richard Stanley follows in the footsteps of David Cronenberg and Clive Barker, creating a truly horrifying vision of the future. Tailor-made with incredible animation effects from ‘Image Animation’ (‘Hellraiser’, ‘Highlander’ & Nightbreed’), Hardware also features an explosive soundtrack from Iggy Pop, Motorhead and Public Image Limited. In a radioactive wasteland, a mysterious zone tripper discovers the remains of cyborg Mark 13; a highly advanced killing machine. He sells it to Mo (Dylan McDermott), a scrap merchant, who, in turn, presents the find to his seductive girlfriend Jill (Stacy Travis). Trapped in her apartment, Jill becomes terrified when Mark 13 suddenly reconstructs itself using household appliances and goes on a bloody rampage.
