are hitting all the right notes. “Maybe I’m biased, but I love watching Jon do ‘76 Trombones,’ and also ‘Trouble,’ Rachel said. “It’s such a difficult song rhythmically. He does a fabulous job.” For herself, Rachel said the musical highlight is hitting the bell-like high notes in songs like “My White Knight,” which she does with confidence. “I was scared of that one,” she admitted, laughing. Director Becky Schueller has her husband Jay and children Emily and Gavin all involved in “The Music Man,” both onstage and off. She said her favorite scene is the unique
The Pine County Board has scheduled two special Committee of the Whole meetings this month in anticipation of setting the county’s budget and preliminary property tax levy for 2017. Commissioners will meet with County Administrator David Minke and county department heads to review proposed staffing and budget information on Tuesdays, Aug. 23 and 30. Both meetings begin at 9 a.m. at the Pine County Courthouse. While no major surprises are expected, county officials continue to try to provide good service to county citizens and property taxpayers while complying with a whole host of state and federal program regulations and mandates that continually exert financial pressure on local government operations. A significant budget issue for the county is dealing with the rising cost of employee benefits, particularly providing health insurance for the county’s 247 employees, and applying the results of the county’s compensation and job classification survey that was recently completed. Pine City’s Anna Reiser has two daughters performing in the show, another doing makeup, and she is onstage herself. “We’re kind of a theater family,” Reiser said. “We’ve done a couple of shows to-
gether before. Even the stressful moments ... are such a joy. This is just who we are meant to be, I think.” Even the two leads keep the family theme going. Real-life married couple Jon and Rachel Bigelow call Rush City home, and bring a strong music and theater background to their performances as Professor Harold Hill and Marian (the librarian) Paroo. “It’s the first time that we’ve ever actually been playing opposite each other in a romantic performance,” Jon said, chuckling. “It’s a lot easier to be able to do that. Don’t have to worry about the home life.” “It’s kind of a nice change,” Rachel said. “It makes it really, really comfortable.” They said the music and performances
