‘Anne of Green Gables’ inspires A cast of 29 Pine City students will warm the hearts of local audiences this weekend with a presentation of a beloved classic children’s story. “Anne of Green Gables” tells the story of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl who is accidentally sent to the wrong adoptive couple in a small Nova Scotia farm community. However, she

and her new family soon grow close, and Anne experiences many adventures while making a home for herself in her new town. The story, based on the 1908 novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, has been dramatized by Joseph Robinette, with Becky Schueller directing. “There’s a lot of humor in it,” Schueller said. “The story kind of

runs the gamut of emotions. All of the characters experience joy, love, learning to love each other – and then loss. I’m looking forward to opening night. “ “Anne of Green Gables” will be performed at the Pine City High School Performing Arts Center on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

STATE SENATE RACE District 11 State Senator Tony Lourey (DFL) will return for a fourth term after holding off a challenge from Mike Cummins (Republican). Lourey received 20,248 votes in the district, while Cummins received 16,879 votes with all 103 precincts reporting. The race was closer in Pine County, with Cummins receiving 6,379 votes to Lourey’s total of 6,441 votes.

The most expensive U.S. House race in the country hit the finish line on Nov. 8 with the two contestants practically neck-and neck. But just after 3 a.m. on Nov. 9, incumbent Representative Rick Nolan (DFL) held a 2,072 vote lead on challenger Stewart Mills (Republican) with all precincts reporting. Nolan received 178,893

votes in the district, with 6,304 of those votes coming from Pine County. Mills received 6,729 votes in Pine County, and received 176,821 in the district as a whole. If these unofficial results hold, Nolan will return for his third consecutive term (and seventh overall) as congressman. The Eight District covers the northeastern region of Minnesota.
