County plan could be move towards zoning
A BIG STEP UP
BY HENRY FISCHER NEWS@PINECITYMN.COM
It’s been more than 20 years since Pine County developed its last Comprehensive Plan. It provided a roadmap to help guide future development, however most of the plan’s recommendations were never implemented. That’s about to change. The Pine County Board kick-started a new 12-month process to develop a new Comprehensive Plan for the county, to be followed by discussions about countywide zoning – and potential development of a countywide zoning ordinance. Construction season may be winding down across Minnesota, but motorists approaching the Rock Creek exit off Interstate 35 will find a new set of slowdowns in coming days. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, mo-

Karen Miller, who has been a nurse at FirstLight for the past 18 years, also calls Pine City home. “As a resident of Pine City, this is huge,” Miller said. “We’ve been in need of this for
decades.” FirstLight Health System’s CEO Randy Ulseth pointed out that even with all the new health options available in Pine City, those needing emergency services will still need to go elsewhere. “It’s immediate needs – it’s not trauma services,” Ulseth said. “We don’t have any ambulances running out of here, and we don’t have any running into SEE URGENCY, PAGE 16
