Founded by Ray Herring (owner of Southern Cuts Butcher Shop in Downtown Southern Pines) in 2012, Southernway Catering was built on passion, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. “We are committed to developing memorable cuisine, providing great service, and generating lasting memories. We are more than just caterers; we are the designers of your most treasured memories.”

Create a Wedding That Reflects You, Not Social Media Trends

In the age of social media, it can be easy to feel like your wedding needs to be an elaborate production that recreates highlights from all your favorite Pinterest boards and dazzles your Instagram followers. Scrolling through lavish ceremonies, paparazzi-style photos and immersive weekend getaways on #WedTok can make even the most confident brides and grooms second-guess their plans. Four 26 Events believes weddings shine brightest when they incorporate pretty details that reflect the uniqueness of the couple tying the knot.

“If you’re chasing trends, you’re always running the risk of looking back and thinking ‘Why did I even do that? Why did I spend so much money on that, when I don’t even really care about it?’” says Talia Hair, owner of the full-service wedding and event planning business. “You’re going to have your wedding photos on your wall forever, and you want them to represent you, not the trends that took over ceremonies and receptions that year.”

Remember trends come and go, and today’s espresso martini bar could quickly become tomorrow’s burlap and mason jars.

“Couples may start the wedding planning process by choosing to go after things that don’t really represent them because they want that trendy photo op. Then a month or two out from the wedding, they change their minds because social media has moved on to something else,” Hair says.

The most meaningful weddings are not those planned by your For You Page, or for validation from strangers on social media, but those that honor your personality, values and love story.

Focus On What Matters to You

Before diving into mood boards and planning your seating chart, take a step back and ask yourself what you and your partner value most. Instead of chasing what’s fashionable, create a design that’s personal. What colors do you love? Are there places or experiences that inspire you as a couple? Is there a way to honor the moments that brought you together? Your wedding should beautifully represent the life you’re building together, not someone else’s idea of perfection.

“When you’re getting married, you are merging two people into one. Incorporating sentimental items into the décor and details makes your wedding day reflective of you,” Hair says. “You can’t go wrong when you pick things that are meaningful to you as a couple, like hobbies you enjoy, or places that are memorable to you.”

Create a Team Dedicated to Your Vision

Four 26 Events takes on full-service clients up to 18 months out, giving couples plenty of time to avoid panic planning and, more importantly,

panic spending. Hair will help focus your vision into an event that’s all your own, guide you in developing an overall design and create and manage a budget to keep your dream event rooted in reality. She’ll also identify vendors who will help you bring it all together.

Couples typically work with at least 10 vendors to execute their dream wedding. The earlier you start the process, the better chance you have to book the vendors you really want.

If food is really important to you, you’ll want to nail down a great caterer immediately. If your focus is on a killer reception, you’ll want to make sure your favorite DJ or band is available. A self-described “practical planner,” Hair takes a straightforward approach throughout the process to help clients keep focus on what’s most important to them, not what social media says they should be doing.

“All the trends say you need to book everything all at once. Social media is telling couples that everything is important, and if they don’t do something a certain way, their entire day is going to be ruined,” Hair says. “I have a marketing background, I understand that it is a marketing tactic, and I’m able to guide clients to what they really should be focusing on depending on where they are in their planning process and what’s important to them.”

Clients should find wedding vendors who value storytelling over spectacle. Discuss your vision openly, and don’t be afraid to walk away from vendors who prioritize what’s “hot” over what’s heartfelt.

“I always think that vendors you spend the most time with, your photographer, videographer and planner, should be a personality fit as well,” says Hair. “You’ll be working with me for a year and a half, so you should be comfortable with me and I should be comfortable with you.”

Work with Four 26 Events can be in-person or virtual, from initial consultations and ongoing check-ins to the delivery of a custom event-weekend timeline, ceremony rehearsal directing and wedding day management. Hair coordinates and manages vendors throughout the planning process and on your big day so you can relax and enjoy the company of your friends and family without worrying about what’s going to happen next. Most importantly, Hair understands that your wedding isn’t a performance, that you don’t need viral moments to make it memorable. If you choose authenticity over aesthetic, you’ll create an event as timeless as your love.

Choose a Venue That Honors Service, Sacrifice

This past summer, I retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. Having lived and served across the United States and Europe, my family holds the Southern Pines community especially close to our hearts. To honor the conclusion of my military career and the sacrifices my family has made along the way, I sought a venue with deep personal meaning — a place where we could celebrate together and one that carried its own powerful story. I chose BHAWK, a venue that embodies the values of service, sacrifice and honor. Every element of BHAWK — every bottle, every cask, every corner — tells a story. Its origins trace back to the remarkable journey of its founders, Brad and Jess Halling. Brad, a U.S. Army veteran, served with distinction during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, later immortalized in the movie Black Hawk Down. Surviving that harrowing battle gave Brad a second chance at life — a chance he has dedicated to honoring those who served alongside him and all who have served

our nation. The name “BHAWK” is a tribute to the men of that battle and reflects Brad’s enduring gratitude for life and service.

Jess Halling served for over 29 years in the Army, beginning her career in 1991 and retiring as a Colonel in 2020. Her final assignment as the Staff Judge Advocate for Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, involved advising Special Operations units on national security law. Together, Brad and Jess share 49 years of service, a testament to their commitment to the values of gratitude, honor and community.

In early 2020, Brad and Jess purchased the 175 Yadkin Road property with a vision to create more than just a whiskey distillery. They built an immersive experience that celebrates service, community and gratitude — values core to their mission.

BHAWK offers a variety of unique event spaces for special occasions of all varieties, such as rehearsal dinners, weddings, business

conferences and other occasions worth celebrating in style and with meaning:

• The Sergeant Major McKinney Executive Lounge: Features elegant leather seating, a private bar and artwork honoring the Special Forces community, along with a back patio for additional space.

• The Predmore Room: Accommodates seated dinners or receptions with an adjacent patio for versatility.

• The Gratitude Room: A living museum at the heart of the distillery, updated with each new whiskey batch to reflect its unique story.

• The Nelms Rickhouse and Production Plant: Rustic, multiuse spaces surrounded by stacked whiskey barrels that offer a distinctive backdrop for events.

BHAWK’s planning team worked closely with me to tailor every detail of my retirement celebration. From the ceremony to the reception, everything reflected my personal story. Guests enjoyed a menu featuring BHAWK’s premium brands — Sergeant’s Valor bourbons and ryes, and Madam Colonel clear and flavored spirits — along with a curated selection of beer, wine, craft cocktails and

mocktails. In 2025, BHAWK will introduce tiered catering options to customize each special occasion further.

Now, I’m proud to be part of the BHAWK team, continuing my story with an organization that upholds the same values of service I dedicated over half my life to defending. At BHAWK, we strive to create more than just celebrations — we craft experiences where guests can connect with the spirit of gratitude and honor, celebrating their own lasting legacies alongside family and friends. Because here, it’s about so much more than just whiskey.

To read more of the BHAWK story, visit hallingwhiskey.com. For information on hosting your business conferences, parties or a major life milestone — whether it’s a rehearsal dinner, wedding, retirement, anniversary or birthday — contact events@hallingwhiskey.com.

Whether you’re dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, an elegant reception or a fun-filled party, Duncraig offers a variety of gorgeous settings for every moment just a mile from the charming downtown of Southern Pines and a short drive from Aberdeen and Pinehurst.

Duncraig Manor is embedded in Southern Pines lore, having been designed for a Quaker Oats heiress in the late 1920s and placed on the Department of the Interior’s list of historic places in 1991. Following a period of decline, the manor found new life under Caroline and Donald

Naysmith, who restored the property in 2017. In 2023, Dan and Petra D’Agostino purchased the property and have continued beautification efforts by planting more gardens, installing a state-of-the-art pool for guests to enjoy in both summer and winter months, and upgrading linens, bedding, and guest amenities.

On the grounds of the four-acre estate, the covered pavilion provides the perfect backdrop for dining, dancing or exchanging vows, while the English garden is ideal for cocktails and mingling. With a beautiful garden, crape myrtles and a breathtaking Tudor home as your backdrop, a photo op is always around the corner. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, don’t worry — Duncraig Manor has you covered with indoor options so your celebration can go off without a hitch. Guests will love relaxing on the porch, exploring the gardens or

taking a break in the library. For a little extra peace and quiet, the on-site Tea House is the perfect spot to soak in the surroundings. If you’d like more time in nature, Weymouth Woods is close by.

Whether you’re hosting a wedding, retreat or just need a getaway, Duncraig Manor guarantees an extraordinary experience you and your guests will never forget. If you’re after privacy, the honeymoon cottage, complete with a galley kitchen is a secluded, romantic hideaway. The manor house is available for you and up to 24 guests, offering cozy spaces to relax and unwind before or after your event. The butler’s pantry is stocked with complimentary gourmet coffee, healthy snacks and fresh fruit so guests can enjoy a little something anytime.

Meanwhile, Duncraig Manor’s chef can provide breakfast — including everything from freshly baked bread made with organic wheat ground on site to Southern-style grits, smoked chicken and apple sausage.

Common areas, complete with large fireplaces and a charming library, invite you to hang out and enjoy the cozy vibe. Luxurious guest rooms combine modern comforts with classic style, and offer views of the surrounding gardens and terraces.

Make Your Meal Center Stage

Food is a leading actor in the story of our lives. While love is in the spotlight during your big day, the performance would be incomplete without a feast worthy of a standing ovation. Chef Brian Hainley and his wife Alison, of Genuine Hospitality Catering and Events, can craft each scene for the perfect ending.

The Hainleys began the company after noticing high demand for quality local caterers. They also own and operate the popular brunch spot Mason’s Restaurant & Grocery in downtown Aberdeen, as well as Pizzeria Grazia next door. Brian graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, and his food is well known in the Sandhills. Since Brian is no stranger to diverse menus, Genuine Hospitality can make it all. Hiring a caterer familiar with all the local venues ensures that the wedding day runs smoothly. Luckily, Genuine Hospitality’s staff has worked at every major venue in the region, so the couple have nothing to fret about on the big day. You can also choose pick up or delivery options if you don’t need full-service.

The Audience

Choosing food for the big day can be overwhelming, but Brian and Alison will take you step by step to make sure everything comes together like it should. Importantly, the Hainleys are good at stretching a budget and suggesting affordable options.

“Come to your catering appointment armed with your budget and guest count if you can,” says Brian. Genuine Hospitality has catered events from 25 to 250. Knowing the size of the party will help the team narrow down the options when deciding on your menu. You’ll want to decide on offerings like hors d’oeuvres, charcuterie boards for snacking and more.

The Characters

The food should complement your vision and taste so everything comes together cohesively. Your laid-back, Southern-inspired reception can have foods you may not typically think of for a wedding, like

Nashville chicken sliders with shrimp and grits. If you’re looking for something more chic, the Hainleys might suggest a steak carving station with lobsters, crab legs and oysters. Looking for an exotic flare, or a dish to honor a trip with a special memory? Genuine Hospitality can cook up colorful international dishes like tuna poké or Mexican street tacos.

“One of the things we want to emphasize with brides is to make yourself happy first,” Brian says. “Choose the foods you want to enjoy — that’s the most important thing.”

Since there are no rules, your menu can be outside the box, like breakfast for dinner. Depending on the time of day you’re getting married, you may want to opt for something brunchy-like stuffed French toast and quiche, and lean into the theme with a mimosa bar. For dessert, do you want to cut and serve a tiered cake? Or would you rather invite guests to take their pick from a fun, festive doughnut bar?

The Scene

Genuine Hospitality knows that how you serve the food is just as important as what’s on the plate. Whether it’s a sophisticated plated dinner, a vibrant buffet or interactive food stations, it’s all tailored to match your vision and budget.

Family-style dinners are also gaining popularity. “We can accommodate any service style a bride prefers,” Brian says. “But family style is just something really cool that lends an intimacy to a meal that is so appropriate for a celebration like a wedding.”

The Final Act

Want to keep the party going? The Hainleys keep up with industry

trends and are happy to suggest elevated late-night bites. Genuine Hospitality Catering provides a full-service bar and craft cocktails, as well as wine and beer.

From the first appetizer to the last drink, Genuine Hospitality Catering and Events knows how to serve a memorable meal — but planning ahead is key. Brian recommends selecting your wedding venue and caterer a year in advance.

For information, call 910.447.2774 or visit genuinehospitalitycatering.com.

Genuine Hospitality Catering is located at 102 West Main St., Suite 202, Aberdeen.

heather mcgowan + john morgan

Heather McGowan and John Morgan regularly visit Moore County to escape the hustle of their busy life in Raleigh. So, when the couple’s elopement evolved into a lastminute wedding because their seven adult children would be home for Christmas, they knew the Sandhills would be the perfect location for their special day.

“It was kismet that Duncraig Manor was empty New Year’s Eve weekend and willing to let us take over for a microwedding,” Heather says.

Surrounded by their blended family and close friends, the pair got married in the manor’s living room on Dec. 30, 2024.

“Our wedding party was so small that I walked myself down the living room aisle and greeted each guest as I made my way,” says Heather. Stopping wasn’t planned, but the bride was so overcome with gratitude that the game-time decision felt right. The impromptu greetings also made for wonderful candid photographs.

After the nuptials, guests enjoyed Chick-fil-A nuggets and brownies as well as picnic-style sandwiches and cakes from the Fresh Market. But the wedding celebration wasn’t over. The McGowan-Morgan crew enjoyed the rest of New Year’s weekend together, relaxing at Duncraig Manor.

When Stephen Sawyer Jr. saw Ashtyn Felthousen practicing alone on the Thistle Dhu Putting Course, he asked if she wanted to play. He lost the game but ultimately won — now they’re married.

“We did not have a ‘traditional’ wedding,” Ashtyn says. “We just wanted family and friends to party, drink, dance and have fun without any stress.”

That made New Year’s Eve 2023 the perfect date for the Sawyers’ wedding shindig. The couple tied the knot in a fiveminute ceremony at 305 Trackside. The bride wore white, forgot her veil and then changed into a pearl-and-black sparkly number for the reception. The groom matched her holiday vibes with a green velvet jacket.

SoPies catered the food, which meant a spread of pizzas running the flavor gamut from buffalo chicken to veggie. Guests chased the casual meal with a vintage-style cake baked by Ashtyn’s best friend’s mom. It was flavored with vanilla and cinnamon and had a “Just Married” sign on top.

“It was the best cake we’ve ever had,” says Ashtyn.

Together, in their festive attire, the newlyweds danced into 2024 to the swinging sounds of dueling pianos. A ball dropped at midnight and guests cheered on the passing Amtrak train as “Auld Lang Syne” welcomed the New Year and a new marriage.

Build Relationships With Vendors Who Honor Your Vision

Planning a wedding is like starring in your own rom-com, except the charming meet-cutes are with photographers, caterers and maybe even a DJ or two. You already know the plot: This happily-ever-after isn’t just about the “I do,” but about finding the dream team of wedding vendors who can make your vision come to life (and maybe keep you sane in the process). Building strong relationships with your vendors is the secret sauce to a wedding that’s as smooth as your signature cocktail. From your florist to photographer, musician, and caterer, your roster of vendors will shape the experience for you and your guests. When planning your wedding, choose businesses whose work you love and who you love to work with. Hiring people you trust to execute your vision will allow you to relax and enjoy your day. If you’ve chosen The Fair Barn as your venue, you have the advantage of soaring two-story ceilings, wooden beams and skylights that allow sunshine to flood in — a location that allows any vendor to shine. Now, it’s just up to you to cultivate

those perfectly productive relationships.

“When clients book The Fair Barn, we discuss the vision for the wedding or event and can direct clients to vendors in our area that specialize in the design that fits their vision best,” says venue manager Holly Neal. “There are many different vendors within the Sandhills that we love to work with, so it is usually easy to help clients find vendors that will work perfectly for them!”

So, how do you choose vendors who are a perfect fit for you?

1. Start by figuring out what you want your wedding to feel like (not just how it will look in photos). Are you thinking of a dreamy, intimate gathering or a contemporary, chic celebration? Deciding on the feel of the event will help you choose vendors who already fit the vibe you’re going for, instead of trying to make a vendor you like fit your mold.

2. Involve your significant other in the planning process. You and your companion might have different ideas about the best parts of the event. That’s great because each of you can manage your top priorities — maybe you can handle finding a top DJ and florist while your companion focuses more on the food and beverages.

3. Vet your choices. Ask people you trust for suggestions on vendors they have used and check reviews on websites like The Knot or WeddingWire. However, don’t hire someone just because they are well known. When you start interviewing vendors, make sure to look for that initial connection and ensure your personalities align.

4. Set a clear budget. You want to find someone that matches your vibe, but you also want to find someone that fits into the price range you and your soon-to-be-spouse are comfortable with. Know what you are willing to spend before approaching vendors. Be up front and ask for pricing transparency and any additional fees.

5. Look outside your immediate family. Using family members to help with aspects of the wedding can be a great way to include them and save money, but it can lead to potential anxiety and tension that can distract you from enjoying your day. Using family or friends as a sounding board rather than hired help is often beneficial.

6. Ensure the vendor is familiar with the venue. The Fair Barn, built in 1917, has been in continuous operation since its full restoration in 2002, so local vendors are familiar with its amenities — including a well-equipped catering kitchen and state-of-the-art dressing rooms. Make sure your chosen vendors are prepared to bring anything they need that the venue doesn’t already offer.

7. Check contracts and policies thoroughly. Ensure everything discussed, including payment, is outlined in writing. Get clear on cancellation policies, backup plans and liability coverage to avoid surprises. Written contracts protect you and the vendor and make sure everyone’s expectations are aligned.

Serving as a multi-purpose gathering place for receptions, private parties, rehearsal dinners and weddings, it’s easy to see why The Fair Barn is one of the most popular wedding venues in the Sandhills — and how it can easily accommodate any vendor ready to shine in a flexible and unique environment.

For booking inquiries or tours of the venue by appointment at 200 Beulah Hill Road S., Pinehurst, call 910.295.0166. For information and photo galleries, visit: www.vopnc.org/our-government/departments/fair-barn. sponsored by the fair barn

Find the Right Fit for Your Whole Party

Finding the perfect dresses for your bridal party can feel like a mix of dress-up and diplomacy. You want your crew to shine, feel fabulous and complement your wedding vision, but you can’t accomplish all of those goals in a group chat. Designate a day for everyone to gather at Honeybee Bridal & Boutique in Rockingham. Boutique owner Melissa Billingsley offers a wide selection of dresses for the bride, bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law and even the flower girl — not to mention tuxedo rentals that will make your heart skip a beat without breaking the bank.

The list doesn’t stop at attire, as Honeybee provides a comprehensive collection of accessories to choose from: handcrafted ornate jewelry, intricate headpieces, classic veils, beaded belts and shoes to match the whole ensemble.

With inventory that caters from size 0 to 28, limitless time to browse and plenty of Southern hospitality, you’re likely to find your bridal look on Honeybee’s racks. If your size is not available in store, Billingsley will personally order what you need, from 00 to 32.

“I don’t care who they are, how much money they’ve got or what they look like,” says Billingsley, “but I do my best to make them the most beautiful I can.”

No Appointment Needed

Decision fatigue is common when you’re surrounded by gorgeous garments and have no idea how to guide your try-on haul. Whether you’re getting married or supporting your loved one on their special day, take some time to research the style of outfit in which you’ll feel your best and would like to be commemorated in family albums. Consider having a couple of options in mind to help explain your tastes to your consultant and facilitate the process by focusing on your favorites. If you’re someone who struggles to envision how something might fit based on a photo, take advantage of the “no appointment necessary” policy and head straight for Honeybee Bridal & Boutique. Without the need for appointments, the entire wedding party can find what they’re looking for at a time that’s convenient for them, in a no-pressure, allfun environment.

Browse Affordable Elegance

Having a budget in mind when shopping for wedding day attire helps narrow down potential favorites. It also helps to factor in the cost of possible alterations, shoes and accessories that would complete the look. Billingsley recommends that brides pay the initial deposit to

secure their dream dress and encourages customers to pay a small sum toward the overall cost each month. Slowly chipping away at the price tag is significantly more manageable than facing yet another bill the week before the wedding.

Don’t give up on your Say Yes to the Dress moment; plan accordingly to ensure an unforgettable bridal experience. Honeybee’s extensive inventory is guaranteed to have more than a few options, no matter the price point.

Accessorize to Mesmerize

Beauty is in the details. Crafting a harmonious bridal look takes experience and extensive knowledge, and Billingsley is more than happy to lend her skills to make magic happen.

Whether you’re swooning over a sparkling tiara, dreaming of vintage-inspired earrings or contemplating a bold, colorful sash, your accessories are where you can truly let your personality shine. Don’t be afraid to mix textures, play with pops of color or embrace “something blue” in a creative way. The team of consultants at Honeybee Bridal & Boutique is trained to suggest the perfect accessories that will elevate any bridal look. And with an extensive inventory of shoes, you’ll never be asked to sacrifice style for comfort.

Step into the world of bridal party brilliance at Honeybee Bridal & Boutique, where Billingsley and her dedicated team of consultants are eager to make your wedding dreams a reality. With flexible scheduling options and exceptional customer service, they aim to accommodate and offer the unique opportunity to purchase “the one” directly from

What happens when an inflatable dinosaur meets a Ninja Turtle? They fall in love, at least that’s what happened when Hugh Shepard (the dinosaur) met Colleen Estes (the turtle) at a Halloween party in 2019. Three years later, Hugh proposed to Colleen while they hit range balls at the Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course, in Charlotte. Colleen said, “Yes,” and the bride and groom got married at the Village Chapel on March 23, 2024.

Colleen walked down the aisle in her grandmother’s wedding dress, which was altered and modernized for the big day.

“My mom also wore the dress for her wedding, so it was extra special,” says Colleen.

After the wedding bells rang, the Sandhills Trolley Company shuttled the party across town to a reception at the Fair Barn. That’s where guests boogied down to the high-energy music of Emerald Empire Band. On the way out, they took home bottled honey from Hugh’s beekeeping as souvenirs.

The couple’s only regret? “We really wanted our grand entrance as husband and wife to be a bungee jump from the top area of the Fair Barn, but the venue wouldn’t allow it!” Colleen says.

Sarah Khoshnaw and Bryant Javier don’t waste any time.

The couple met in Scottsdale, Arizona, in July 2023, got engaged at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix two months later, and tied the knot at the bride’s childhood church in Pinehurst the following year on April 5, 2024. When you know, you know, and Sarah and Bryant knew.

After the traditional nuptials at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a dress change and a short drive across Moore County, the celebration got underway at Soirée on South.

“I love the simplicity of baby’s breath and white roses,” Sarah says, commenting on her wedding decor.

As for the food, Elliotts on Linden catered the dinner, and the Bakehouse baked the cake, although cake wasn’t the only dessert served. Sarah grew up in Pinehurst, but she was born in Iraq, so the couple served baklava brought all the way from her native country. The reception also included traditional Chaldean dances to honor the bride’s side of the family.

“We do not regret anything,” says Sarah. “Our wedding was 40 people, and it was the best decision, having only our closest friends and family for our special day.”

Floral Design Trends Toward the Unexpected

Style is all about making a look your own, and floral design is no different. This year’s trends are gravitating toward personalized, intentional touches that reflect a couple’s unique love story as well as the natural beauty of the world around them. As rich jewel tones and natural textures continue to make a triumphant return to the creative world, Hollyfield Design expects floral design to follow suit. Here are the top trends that brides and grooms can make their own this year:

Bold and Vibrant Color Palettes

Muted tones and neutrals popularized by millennials no longer reign supreme. Couples are drawing inspiration from fashion, art and global cultures, pairing shades like magenta, coral, burnt orange and electric blue with grounding deep greens.

Textured and Sculptural Arrangements

Expect arrangements that feel multi-dimensional and sculptural, incorporating elements like branches, dried flowers, grasses and berries for asymmetrical designs and unique shapes. Floating floral clouds, statement arches and cascading table runners will add a new level of artistry, while large-scale floral installations will transform wedding venues into magical, immersive spaces.

Minimalist Elegance

While minimalism remains a strong influence, it shows up in the form of mono-botanical arrangements or tablescapes that allow one or two elements to shine. Look for a single type of flower displayed en masse to create a sleek and modern aesthetic that allows the natural beauty

PHOTOS
TIFFANY

of the blooms to shine. Brides are also opting for simple yet elegant tablescapes, featuring individual blooms or small clusters of flowers in delicate vases.

Garden-Inspired Aesthetics:

A romantic and organic vibe calls for florals that evoke the feeling of a whimsical meadow, with soft, delicate blooms in pastel hues and free-flowing designs that embrace the beauty of imperfection — a look perfect for outdoor ceremonies and rustic venues. Entire walls covered in flowers, hanging floral chandeliers, and dramatic aisle arrangements will make guests feel as if they’ve entered a fairy-tale garden.

Personalized and Symbolic Florals:

Couples are choosing blooms that tell their unique story, whether they’re flowers tied to a cherished memory, a cultural tradition, or a family heirloom. Florists are being challenged to curate arrangements

that feel deeply personal, often incorporating custom elements like handwritten notes, monograms, or small keepsakes.

As floral trends continue to celebrate creativity, personalization and a connection to nature, couples have endless opportunities to bring their floral visions to life. With nine on-site designers, Hollyfield Design is prepared to make your vision bloom — whether it’s an intimate backyard garden ceremony or a modern ballroom celebration. Stop in the 9,000-square-foot showroom in downtown Southern Pines to see a sample of the creativity and professionalism that has led to seven consecutive years of being voted the area’s top florist in the annual Best of the Pines awards.

Lizabeth Carson

lizabeth lohmann + carson riley

Lizabeth Lohmann and Carson Riley met at a piano bar in Asheville, North Carolina. Liz was in town for a girls weekend, and Carson was there for a bachelor party — how prescient.

After the pair became engaged, Carson took his future bride to visit the village of Pinehurst. He played college golf, loves visiting the Sandhills to play all the courses and knew Liz would love the area, too.

She loved it so much that the couple chose to share the special location with their family and friends. Liz and Carson got married on the West Lawn of the Carolina Hotel, followed by a reception on the Carolina Terrace, on April 6, 2024.

The couple wanted to get married outdoors, and the lawn fit the bill. It also proved to be a great choice for cocktail hour.

“The guests were able to play the putting green, which fit perfectly for the golf-themed weekend,” says Liz.

The lush outdoor venue looked timeless with classic black-and-white details, including black tuxedos and dresses for the wedding party; white flowers, linens and a cake; plus, a checkerboard dance floor that the bride and groom just didn’t want to leave.

“We didn’t want the night to end,” Liz says.

victoria eick + parker chang

Victoria Eick and Parker Chang wanted a backyard wedding at a family house in Pinehurst, but they kept running into setbacks. When the couple panicked and called the Weymouth Center only a few months before their wedding to see if the venue still had availability — and it did — the bride and groom knew they were meant to be married there.

“It had the feel of the backyard wedding we had envisioned, just on a larger scale,” Victoria says.

The couple didn’t have a strict theme for their April 6, 2024 wedding, but they were inspired by the cherry blossoms in Washington, the city where Victoria and Parker met and lived.

“Cherry blossoms are not the easiest flower choice for a wedding because they bloom for such a limited and somewhat unpredictable period of time, so we took inspiration from their colors and textures, the spring season and the architecture at Weymouth,” says Victoria.

After a ceremony the bride and groom helped write, Elliotts on Linden catered a family-style meal that incorporated Chinese flavors to honor Parker’s heritage. An almond wedding cake magicked up by the Bakehouse sent guests home happy, with full stomachs.

Be the Most Confident Version of Yourself

You deserve to look luminous as you walk down the aisle, but achieving that bridal glow is about far more than makeup — it’s a combination of smart skin care, nourishing habits and a little self-love in the months leading up to your big day. What’s basically your red carpet moment begins at Bloom Precision Aesthetics, where an expert team and techniques can help the best version of yourself shine through.

Brianna Vincent opened Bloom with one goal: to help each patient highlight the features they love about themselves and feel better in the process. She’s grown her business with the help of an elite team that is passionate about perfecting that bridal glow and has earned the designation of Best of the Pines two years in a row.

“We’re experts at enhancing your already beautiful self, not changing or augmenting,” Vincent says. “We know that even the smallest tweaks can hugely boost your confidence and help you feel like ‘you’ when you look in the mirror.”

On your wedding day — when the pictures you take will decorate your walls for years to come — it’s even more important than usual to love the skin you’re in. Dipping your toe into advanced care can be intimidating, but at Bloom, Vincent and her personable staff of providers make the intimidating process a breeze. Take it from bride Laura Martin.

“On the day of my wedding I felt more beautiful than I have felt in my entire life,” Martin says. “This was largely due to Bloom and Bri’s preventative treatments leading up to the wedding that kept my skin young and rejuvenated. I felt natural, confident and glowing in my own skin on my big day.”

How To Start

The Bloom experience begins with an individual consultation, where the team and new patient discuss skin goals and timeline. Sometimes, the resulting plan will fine-tune the patient’s already established skin care routine. Other times, Vincent recommends more intensive plans, such as facial injections to treat

wrinkles and stubborn lines or laser treatments to improve overall skin tone and texture. You can be sure that Bloom’s process will be simple and manageable whichever route you choose, no matter your skin care expertise.

Whether you are ready for a full treatment plan or simply product recommendations, the sooner you schedule your consultation at Bloom the better. Vincent advises brides-to-be to schedule their consultation at least six months before the “I dos” so the glowing skin of their dreams will be fully displayed on the wedding day. That ensures that there will be time for initial treatments and any follow-ups needed, as well as time for any skin care regimen to really produce results.

Save Big With the ‘Bloom Bank’

For brides looking to dramatically up their skin game before the wedding day, Bloom offers a membership incentive. Called the “Bloom Bank,” the program helps lock in the lowest pricing, makes it easy to make skin insecurities worries of the past and helps patients prioritize these treatments as self-care and wellness. The program has earned excellent feedback from its more than 300 members, who like the idea of paying smaller monthly increments that will be 100% applied toward their treatments. The extra fun perk is that each membership option comes with 10-15% off products and services on top of the exclusive membership pricing.

Book a Consultation

For tips and tricks on maximizing natural beauty, check out Brianna’s and Bloom’s official Instagram accounts: @hellobri_ skinpa and @hellobloom_nc. Also, keep an eye on Bloom’s website at hellobloomnc.com for an upcoming blog to help brides and other patients on their skin care journey.

To book an appointment at Bloom, schedule online at hellobloomnc.com or call/text 910.986.2460. Bloom Precision Aesthetics is located in the Pinehurst Theater Building at 90 Cherokee Road, Suite 2AB, Pinehurst. Bloom is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Serve Prime Quality With a Side of Southern Hospitality

Picking the right meat for your wedding celebration might not be as thrilling as saying “yes” to the dress, but perfectly-cooked chicken or melt-in-your-mouth steak is one juicy detail that guests are sure to remember. Your menu selection is about more than just food — it’s an opportunity to set the tone and showcase your tastes as a couple. Find a meal that makes the cut at Southernway Catering, where every plate served is anchored by the same protein that owner Ray Herring sells from his cases at Southern Cuts Butcher Shop in downtown Southern Pines.

“A lot of folks in the catering business are trying to source something cheap; they’ll buy prime rib in bulk from Costco and think that they’re going to cook it so long that quality doesn’t matter,” Herring says.

“We’re not going to cut quality or cut corners. We’re serving the same stuff we’re selling in the shop because we want you to enjoy it and come back for more.”

Repeat customers and customers who have referred Southernway Catering to friends and family are what has kept Herring in business since 2012. Always comfortable in the kitchen, Herring booked his first official event after cooking for a friend’s backyard party. Shortly after, he acquired an LLC; in 2016, he took his business full-time.

When events slowed down in 2020 and meat shortages persisted, Herring decided to complement his catering business by opening Southern Cuts Butcher Shop in Laurinburg. That business quickly made a name for itself with its selection of Certified Angus Beef Prime.

Customers drove from Moore County for Herring’s selection of short ribs, brisket, tomahawks, rib eyes and ground beef plus deli cuts, sausages, poultry, pork, lamb and seafood. In 2024, he moved the business to downtown Southern Pines, where he offers all of the above as well as specialties like veal sweetbreads, bison, kangaroo, venison, elk and

oxtail. Customers can also browse pantry items like beef tallow, duck fat, barbecue, spiced peaches and more.

Today, Southernway Catering takes on clients of all types and events of all sizes. You can find Herring and his staff working as private in-home chefs, cooking up backyard barbecues or serving hundreds of meals at a corporate event or wedding. Herring chalks his success up to service, what he sees as the definition of the Southern way.

“We’re locally and family owned, so earning local support with great service means a lot to us. We thrive on providing that Southern hospitality,” he says.

That hospitality extends beyond preparing and serving quality meat and sides. Need tables or chairs? How about a cake? Southernway Catering can help with every aspect of your celebratory meal, from tables and chairs to decor, from disposable plates to fine china. Thanks to

relationships he has established with bakers and florists, your personalized event quote can wrap in a cake and florals, too.

“We can do as much or as little as a client wants,” Herring says.

Having an event outside of Moore County? Southernway Catering is accustomed to traveling for events and carries state-of-the-art equipment to keep foods hot or cold for eight hours or more.

Herring invites couples to shop Southern Cuts Butcher Shop, where they can meet their protein match as well as the seasonings, sauces and toppings they’ll be paired with on their big day. With the help of Southernway Catering, your wedding day will be an occasion to savor.

laura faenza + william oliver

Laura Faenza and William Oliver met through mutual friends, quickly started dating, and two and a half years later, purchased a home together in the Buckhead district of Atlanta, Georgia.

“Little did I know, just a few months after purchasing our first home together, Will had planned to propose in our living room on a Saturday morning in the summer,” Laura says. The bride suspected a proposal was coming but hadn’t expected it to happen at home. “He really did pull off the ultimate surprise,” she says.

Although the couple lives in Atlanta, the bride spent part of her childhood in Pinehurst, where she made many friends and lifelong memories, which now include her wedding day.

With arrangements of white peonies, roses and hydrangeas cascading from the chandeliers, Laura and Will celebrated their new marriage while overlooking the famous No. 2 golf course at the Pinehurst Country Club on May 4, 2024, just a few weeks before the U.S. Open Golf Championship.

“It was almost a homecoming of sorts to one of the places that helped mold me into who I am today,” Laura says. “Will had no arguments on the venue location either, of course, due to his love for golf.”

alyssa veit + steven guy

Pinehurst native Alyssa Veit and her groom, Steven Guy, met in a classic way — through mutual friends while they were students at the University of South Carolina.

“We have been together ever since!” Alyssa says.

When Steven was ready to pop the question, Alyssa’s mom helped set up the ruse with a very “mom” request. She asked to take family pictures during a vacation to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. When Alyssa walked down to the beach for what she thought were “silly family photos,” Steven was waiting to propose.

Fast forward a year and a half to Sept. 21, 2024. The college sweethearts exchanged “I dos” at the Weymouth Center, where they spent most of their wedding day outside on the grounds. Together with their guests, the newlyweds danced late into the beautiful summer night.

“The day was everything we could have dreamed of and more,” Alyssa says. “All the small details that you worry about for the months leading up to the wedding do not matter at all, and it takes being surrounded by your closest friends and family, who are all there to celebrate you, to realize nothing else matters.”

Commit To Prioritizing Your Overall Wellness

What better way to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter than by prioritizing your overall well-eing? As you commit to spending the rest of your life alongside your significant other, take a vow to take care of yourself with the help of Vascular Institute of the Pines (VIP).

VIP owner and founder Dr. Leah Hershman is dedicated to finding long-lasting solutions for her patients, and not just those who are suffering from symptoms of poor vascular health, like varicose veins, swelling, tiredness, heaviness, achiness, cramps, restlessness and discomfort. She has expanded her services to include therapies like EmSculpt Neo, Emsella, Emface, Exion, cosmetic sclerotherapy, laser hair removal and varicose vein treatments to create a treatment plan that caters to patients’ individual needs.

Treatment Options at VIP:

• EmSculptNeo: A non-invasive solution for those aiming to build muscle and eliminate fat simultaneously. This treatment is said to permanently remove 30% of fat cells, leading to a significant overall

fat reduction, as well as stimulate muscle growth, achieving an impressive 25% increase in muscle mass.

• Emsella: A non-invasive treatment that is the equivalent of 11,200 kegels, clients can see relief from urinary incontinence or improvements in their sexual wellness after just one 28-minute, fully clothed session.

• Emface: A product that lifts your face naturally without surgery, and works by delicately toning the elevator muscles to produce a needle-free facelift. The treatment takes about 20 minutes and is non-invasive.

• Exion: Patented technology that promotes collagen and simulates the natural production of hyaluronic acid to promote a more youthful look, reducing fine lines, sagging and hyperpigmentation.

• Varicose vein treatment and cosmetic sclerotherapy: Minimally invasive procedures that can rid your legs of any unsightly veins by using small injections. These treatments take less than 30 minutes to perform and there is no downtime.

• AlloraPro laser hair removal: Get stunning, long-lasting results with the AlloraPro device, considered one of the fastest hair removal methods on the market.

Each new patient at VIP receives a comprehensive health evaluation to better understand their health history and overall wellness. After collecting relevant background information, VIP’s team of professionals makes note of the physical improvements patients would like to see and discusses how results can be achieved with VIP’s technology. Patients may see results after each treatment, but optimal results are three months from the last treatment. It’s recommended that patients try to plan at least three to four months out from the wedding to see best results, as each treatment has its own timeline. Improving diet and exercise routines and incorporating tools to improve vein health, like compression socks, will also help accelerate results. With the help of VIP, prepare to step into forever with treatments that will have you feeling your best long after your honeymoon.

For information on services offered by Vascular Institute of the Pines, call 910.338.3381 or visit vascularinstituteofthepines.com. sponsored by vascular institute of the pines

Dr. Hershman is absolutely wonderful! I received treatment for spider veins and achieved great results. Staff is very professional and friendly! Highly recommend VIP! — Candice P.

This is a great place to visit. I decided to purchase a package for the Emface, and I’m only a few weeks in but already seeing differences. My cheeks already look lifted and refreshed, and my forehead wrinkles are disappearing. Apparently, it’s even better months after the treatment is done, so I can’t wait to see the results! I would 100% recommend this. I’m into natural treatments; I’ve never messed with fillers or Botox, and I’m so glad I held off because this is a game changer! So happy!

— Lauren V.

Embrace Your Beauty: A Guide to Confident Dress Shopping

Wedding dress shopping should be one of the most exciting and memorable parts of preparing for your big day. But insecurities can creep in, and the process can quickly become overwhelming. If you’re feeling anxious about wedding dress shopping, know that you’re not alone. The team at Shiloh Court Bridal works to empower brides while finding the dress that reflects their inner beauty, providing them with a magical experience during their bridal appointment. As you book yours, here are a few tips for making the day as successful as possible. Show up for yourself: It’s essential to embrace your true self and surround yourself with people who uplift you. Your bridal consultant is there to help, so be open about your preferences and any areas of concern. Remember, confidence is key. The right dress will make you feel like your best self.

Bring the Right Support System

You want to feel happy and joyful during your dress shopping experience, and the people you bring along can significantly impact your mood. Choose loved ones who will support your decisions and whose opinions you trust.

• Prioritize positivity: Surround yourself with individuals who genuinely uplift and support you. Their enthusiasm can be contagious, boosting your confidence and making the experience more enjoyable.

• Seek those who are honest yet kind: Seek companions who will provide honest feedback without being overly critical. A constructive opinion can be helpful, but it’s essential to feel supported and loved.

• Set boundaries: Communicate your feelings and expectations to your entourage. If you prefer limited opinions or want specific feedback, don’t hesitate to express those wishes.

• Consider their role: Think about the role each person plays in your life. Do they have experience with wedding dresses? Are they good listeners? Do they understand your style?

• Keep it small: Sometimes less is more. Consider bringing just one or two close confidantes to avoid feeling overwhelmed by too many opinions.

Dress for Success

To boost your confidence, consider what you’ll wear under your dress. Seamless nude undergarments and a strapless bra will help you get the best idea of how each dress will look and fit. If you find shapewear to be the most comfortable, go for it! And don’t underestimate the power of wearing a flattering outfit while shopping. Here are some tips and tricks:

Invest in the Right Undergarments:

• Shapewear: Find shapewear that provides the right amount of support without feeling restrictive. Consider options like smoothing slips, body shapers or control panties.

• Comfort is key: Comfortable undergarments can make a world of difference. Remember, you’ll be spending a significant amount of time trying on dresses. Choose undergarments that are comfortable to wear for extended periods.

Accessorize With Confidence:

• Jewelry: Minimalist or statement jewelry can elevate your look. Choose pieces that complement your style and make you feel confident.

• Shoes: Wear comfortable shoes that allow you to move freely and can easily slip on and off.

Remember, It’s Your Day

It’s essential to remember that your happiness and satisfaction are priority. Your wedding day is a celebration of love and your unique personality. Spend some time imagining how you want to feel on your wedding day and visualizing yourself as a confident, radiant bride. This type of mental preparation can significantly boost your confidence. Don’t let external opinions or pressures overshadow your desires. Enjoy the process and trust that you’ll find the one. Ultimately, the right dress will make you feel amazing. Shiloh Court Bridal is passionate about creating a memorable and stress-free shopping experience for every bride. Book your appointment today and let them help you find the one while feeling celebrated, confident, and beautiful.

melissa jimenez + franck krynen

F

ranck Krynen exchanged phone numbers with Melissa Jimenez after striking up a conversation with her at an Anthropologie in Raleigh. Later that day, Franck texted Melissa, asking if she wanted to go to dinner the next night. As it turned out, he had forgotten that he already had dinner plans with his mom. The solution? Melissa and Franck went on their first date with their mothers in tow.

“And the rest is history!” Melissa says.

Franck proposed a year later at the Italian restaurant where the couple had their first official date without their mothers.

“Just as the tiramisu dessert was served, he got on his knee and proposed,” Melissa says. “I said, ‘YES,’ and everyone in the restaurant clapped!”

Fifteen months later, the couple said their “I dos” at Pinehurst No. 9 on Oct. 5, 2024. Franck is an avid golfer, so the venue was perfect for their ceremony and reception.

“My wedding day was perfect, filled with love and family,” Melissa says. “I couldn’t have asked for a better day.”

Meghan Davis and Daniel Munoz met at the engagement party of their best friends.

“Neither of us are super aggressive in the dating department, but a year later, when we hung out quite a bit at the wedding — it’s all history from there,” Meghan says.

Dan proposed to Meghan in Tufts Park while they walked around Pinehurst admiring Christmas lights.

“Everyone always says Pinehurst village is like a Hallmark movie, and I couldn’t agree more, especially on that evening,” says Meghan.

The next day was Thanksgiving, and the happy couple celebrated their exciting news with family and friends at the annual Blessing of the Hounds, a favorite local event that formally marks the beginning of foxhunting season.

“Dan and I both wanted to be married in a church, and being from Pinehurst, I always dreamed of getting married at the Village Chapel,” Meghan says.

After their traditional nuptials in the historic chapel on Oct. 12, 2024, the couple celebrated with their guests in the Outlook and 2View Ballrooms, overlooking the No. 2 golf course at the Pinehurst Country Club.

“The weather was really showing off that day,” Meghan says, “so it was an absolutely gorgeous backdrop having everyone out on the course.”

Engagement Kisses, Venue Wishes: The Next Step in Your Wedding Journey

Congratulations on your engagement! Now that you’ve celebrated your exciting news, it’s time to turn your attention to the big day ahead. In most cases, booking your venue should be your next priority. The venue sets the stage for your wedding day and influences everything from the date to the vendors you choose.

When selecting a venue, it’s important to tour with purpose. Knowing the right questions to ask helps manage expectations and reduces stress. To help you navigate the process, we’ve compiled a list of essential questions to ask — and we’ve included a spotlight on a local gem, Village Pine Venue (VPV), to illustrate how to approach your search.

Village Pine Venue (VPV) Q&A: Key Questions for Your Venue Search

Where are you located? While this seems like a simple question, many venues can be farther from your ideal accommodations or difficult for guests to navigate.

• VPV: Just four miles from the Pinehurst Traffic Circle, VPV is centrally located and easily accessible. It’s less than eight miles from major local hotels, making it convenient for your guests.

How many guests can you accommodate? Knowing the venue’s guest capacity is crucial for narrowing down your options and preventing disappointment.

• VPV can accommodate up to 250 guests for a seated wedding dinner,

ensuring there’s plenty of room for all your loved ones to join in the celebration.

Date availability: Start with flexibility rather than locking in a specific date. Many couples get caught up in choosing one particular date, only to discover that it’s already booked.

• VPV: There are still available wedding dates in 2025, and bookings are currently open through 2027 — so there’s plenty of time to plan!

Price and payment plan: Every couple has a budget, and knowing the payment structure up front will help you stay organized.

• VPV: New for 2025, there are two pricing options — one that includes furnishings and one that doesn’t. A 50% deposit is due at the time of contract signing, with the remaining 50% due six months before your event. No hidden fees or extra charges apply.

Cancellation and refund policy: Cancellation policies can be tricky, and many venues may be hesitant to offer refunds as dates are essentially their inventory. Make sure you understand the terms clearly.

• VPV: Unfortunately, VPV does not offer cancellations or refunds, so it’s important to be certain of your plans before booking.

Hours of use: Make sure you’re clear about the venue’s hours and any extra charges for extended use. Many venues have strict limits on event timing, and some may charge extra for overtime.

• VPV is extremely flexible with venue access, allowing you and

your vendors to arrive early for setup and preparation. There are no additional fees for early access. Music must end by 11 p.m., and all vendors should be off the premises by midnight.

Getting-ready spaces: Ensure that getting-ready spaces are included in the venue contract and not listed as separate rentals. These spaces can make your day much smoother and more comfortable.

• VPV: You and your bridal party have access to the entire property for the whole day. This includes the bridal house, the groom’s garage and another versatile preparation space inside the main building.

Ceremony locations: What are your options for where to hold the ceremony? Ask about the venue’s rain or bad weather backup plan.

• VPV: With five distinct ceremony locations, VPV offers plenty of variety. You can exchange vows in an amphitheater with built-in seating, a sprawling covered veranda (weather backup option No. 1), a smaller grass area overlooking the pond or a beautiful garden patio surrounded by seasonal blooms and a brick privacy wall. You can also opt for an indoor ceremony in the main building (weather backup option No. 2).

What’s included? Some venues provide a full range of services, while others require you to bring in your own vendors. Know exactly what’s included, who’s required and what you need to source elsewhere.

• VPV offers two packages — one that includes furnishings (tables, chairs, ceremony chairs, podium and new soft-furnishing lounge

areas) and one that doesn’t. The venue also features a full prep kitchen, but you’ll need to hire a caterer, bartender, planner, florist, and additional vendors (like photographer and videographer). VPV allows you to choose your own licensed and insured vendors, though they provide a recommended list to help you get started.

What about additional fees or charges? Always ask about any hidden fees that might appear in the fine print. Be sure to request a sample contract during your tour to review thoroughly before making a decision.

• VPV prides itself on transparency. There are no hidden fees, and all charges are clearly outlined in the contract so you won’t encounter any unpleasant surprises.

These initial questions should give you a solid foundation for your venue search. Every wedding is unique, so don’t hesitate to ask additional questions that are important to you and your vision for the day. Always visit multiple venues that meet your criteria. This will give you a better understanding of what’s out there and help you make an informed decision. Best of luck finding the venue of your dreams, and happy planning!

YOUR WEDDING DAY TIMELINE

Invest in Small Changes That Make a Big Impact

Sometimes it’s little adjustments that can make the greatest change, especially when it comes to looking your best. Small, thoughtful tweaks can elevate your confidence and create a polished, photo-ready look for any occasion.

At the Laser Institute of Pinehurst, Dr. Christi Woods is passionate about helping people put their best face forward. She spent more than a decade in emergency medicine before pursuing a career in aesthetics, which allows her to create a more personal and long-term relationship with her patients, she makes sure they feel and look radiant through weddings, babies and all points after and in between.

“It’s happy work to make people feel good about themselves,” she says. “Patients may be bothered by something that no one else would ever notice, and the fix is so simple that they ask, ‘Why didn’t I do this a long time ago?’ Seeing their confidence improve and knowing that I was a part of it is so rewarding.”

Dr. Woods is board certified in emergency medicine and served as the director of her emergency department before completing a cosmetic dermatology fellowship with Dr. Lydia Parker at The Parker Skin & Aesthetic Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio — a national training center for Botox since it was first FDA approved. After completing that fellowship, Dr. Woods joined the clinic, further advancing her knowledge of techniques she would soon bring to Pinehurst.

“I’ve had several patients tell me that they’ve been going to Cary or Raleigh to have things done that we are now doing here at the Laser Institute,” says Dr. Woods. Things such as thread lifts, platelet-rich plasma (for hair growth), and special techniques for lasers or fillers. “We now have the ability to do higher level procedures without clients having to travel.”

The office also stocks medical-grade and prescription skincare that providers can dispense on site, eliminating a trip to the pharmacy. Every appointment starts with the client holding a mirror and showing Dr. Woods what they’d like to change. With Dr. Woods’ guidance, they can then create a treatment plan with the help of an extensive service menu, from lasers and lifts to minimally invasive options like facials, dermaplaning and brow tinting. The Institute’s team has more than four decades of combined experience in estheticians Alecia Deese and Amber O’Berry,

registered nurse Debby Carter and physician’s assistant Chassidy Young.

“I tell people it’s almost like a restaurant where they are able to choose from a menu of options,” says Dr. Woods, “but these options are based on their comfort level, their budget and their timeline. When it comes to their wedding, people often have big goals and require time to achieve optimal results.”

While many treatments take time to be the most effective, a series of treatments may also be needed. Dr. Woods has compiled a suggested timeline to serve as a guide, but it may or may not include treatments that are right for you.

• 6-12 months out: Have a consultation to discuss your goals for the big day. Developing a plan that you can achieve over time will help to get you glowing and stress-free. Peak results will hit at just the right time and any possible downtime won’t conflict with your busy schedule.

• 3-6 months out: Establish a solid skin care routine. If lasers are part of your plan, coordinate them with any travel, sun exposure or important

events. Remember, you can’t be tanned when receiving laser treatment, even laser hair removal. If you are new to neurotoxins (Botox/Dysport), try them out. Smooth skin requires our bodies to heal and regenerate, the time is now to get started.

• 2-3 months out: If filler is part of your big day plan, now’s the time. You’ll have plenty of time for any swelling to go away, and treatments will still look fresh.

• 1-2 months out: This is the time for your last chemical peel, laser, or neurotoxin like Dysport/Botox.

• 1-2 weeks out: Secure your bridal glow with medical or hydrafacial dermaplaning 2-5 days before. Complete brow shaping and/or tinting, and stay hydrated!

• 0-7 days out: Relax knowing you took great care of your skin and you are looking radiant. Resist the urge to try something new, especially if you have sensitive skin. Hydrate, and call the office for any stress-related outbreaks.

“This is the time when everybody is going to see you, and those photos are going to be up forever,” Dr. Woods says.

“Putting in the work to look your best will be so rewarding for yourself and for our team. I love to see those wedding day photos and feel like I was a part of it.”

sarah rogers + lance wonder

Sarah Rogers and Lance Wonder hail from opposite sides of the country: The bride is from Ohio, and the groom, Washington. Lucky for the pair, they both happened to be living in North Carolina when they met, in 2018.

Fast forward five years, and the couple eloped at Reservoir Park, in Southern Pines, with only their parents, siblings and Lance’s son Maxwell in attendance. Almost a year to the day later, on Oct. 12, 2024, Sarah and Lance celebrated their union in front of a much larger audience at the Fair Barn, in Pinehurst.

The special day was a boho-glam blowout decorated in gold and neutrals, with seasonal touches completing the event. Out-of-town guests enjoyed fall flavors in their goodie bags, which included pumpkin dark chocolate chip scones from local hotspot Pine Scone Café.

“Just about everything on our wedding day was perfect,” Sarah says. “That is, minus a table catching fire during cocktail hour.”

Fortunately, the newlyweds had a team that expertly handled what could have been a crisis.

“Caroline and Allison, our wedding planners from Southern Polished Events, were so great I didn’t even know about the table fire until after our reception ended,” Sarah says.

chelsey bennett + austin ballard

Chelsey Bennett and Austin Ballard met on a blind date set up by her cousin at a Fayetteville coffee shop in October 2020. The pair hit it off and got engaged a few years later at the Kindred Spirit Mailbox, something of a local landmark on Bird Island, North Carolina.

From there, the wedding planning got underway. Whenever the couple became overwhelmed with the process, they’d use a code word to signal they were done with wedding talk, a tip they said helped keep planning fun all the way to their special day, Nov. 2, 2024.

Chelsey and Austin hosted their entire wedding weekend at Village Pine Venue, in Carthage. Friday featured a rehearsal dinner catered by Elliotts on Linden, Saturday brought the couple’s “I dos” in the courtyard, followed by a garden-themed reception in the main hall, and Sunday saw guests off with a farewell brunch. After the last table had been cleared, the newlyweds donated their centerpieces to FirstHealth Hospice House.

“It was a good feeling to spread the beauty of our flowers to families who needed it most,” says Chelsey.

Brighten Up Your Big Day With a Radiant Smile

From your engagement photos to your wedding celebration, it’s safe to say that your smile will be front and center. Investing a little extra care into your routine ahead of time can make all the difference. Secure a pre-wedding touch up — or makeover — with smile expert Jordan Ridge, D.D.S., at Pinehurst Dentistry.

Jordan has collaborated with her father, Fred Ridge, D.D.S., since graduating from UNC’s Adams School of Dentistry. With her extensive knowledge and expertise, achieving a radiant smile and feeling confident on your big day has never been easier — it all starts with healthy gums and teeth. Whether you’re looking to craft a brand-new smile with corrective aids like Invisalign or veneers or want a quick refresh through professional whitening services, Jordan is eager to help

you prepare for your special day. Her skills, coupled with the talented team at Pinehurst Dentistry, will give you the confidence boost you’re craving for the happiest day of your life, free of insecurity.

Prioritize Self-care

As you tick off wedding planning tasks — finalizing the guest list, choosing colors, confirming vendors — don’t forget to make time for self-care. Whether your big day is just around the corner or still months away, Jordan offers flexible pre-wedding dental solutions to fit any timeline. With at-home systems like Philips Zoom and KöR deep bleaching, couples can brighten their smiles while juggling other wedding details, like ordering the cake or finalizing the seating chart. The result?

Jordan Ridge, D.D.S.

Perfect pearly whites for the big day without skipping a beat.

For couples seeking a quick fix, Jordan is able to help you achieve your dream look with veneers in just a day. When given a longer timeline, she and her team can straighten your smile with Invisalign. As part of the team’s mission to take a holistic approach to care, they’ve even added microneedling to the Pinehurst Dentistry repertoire.

“I have a lot of patients who are interested in how to improve their skin texture along with their smile, and I feel like the two go together,” Jordan says. “Microneedling helps you produce collagen naturally, which fills in fine lines and corrects texture; it also goes along with our office’s philosophy of treating the patient as a whole.”

You and Your Teeth Will Glow

From the initial consultation through follow-up appointments, Jordan Ridge and Pinehurst Dentistry offer unparalleled customer service, support and encouragement to get you ready for your wedding day. Picture-Perfect Smiles. As your daydreams quickly become reality and your wedding date closes in, make sure you have a dazzling smile on your face to commemorate the joyous occasion. Get ready to say “I do” to a dazzling smile.

Uncork Happiness: Find the Perfect Wedding Wine

Selecting wine for your wedding isn’t just about finding something to fill your monogrammed glasses — it’s also about flavors that elevate your menu and give your guests a reason to toast all night long. You need a partner in wine who can help you wade through the options and sip, swirl and savor your way to success.

Whether your event is catered by a fine restaurant or a charming food truck, the skilled team at Triangle Wine Co. will curate a selection to complement the event’s menu and budget. Your complimentary consultation and tasting can include a mix of red, white and sparkling wines, craft beer and cider, and even non-alcoholic options. The company’s diverse selection is equally thoughtful for those who desire organic, vegan or low-sugar wines so everyone can feel like they have something special in their glass.

As you make your selection, savor these toastworthy tips:

• Consider the location, location, location: The time of year and location of your wedding play a significant role in your selection. Lighter wines like sauvignon blanc, rosé and pinot grigio are refreshing choices for summer weddings, while fall and winter weddings pair beautifully with richer reds like cabernet sauvignon, syrah or malbec. Outdoor weddings might benefit from wines that can be served chilled, while indoor, more formal settings might call for classic, full-bodied options.

• Marry the menu: White wines are a classic pairing for chicken, fish or veggie dishes; pinot noir or merlot sets off steak or short ribs. You’ll

want to supply enough bubbly for making a toast, but sparkling wines are also a fabulous match for salty apps and desserts.

• Don’t break up with your budget: While that $200 bottle may be heavenly, your budget will thank you for finding something just as delicious for less. Most guests won’t scrutinize the label. Many affordable wines offer high-quality, crowd-pleasing options in the mid-price range. Premium Champagnes like Moët & Chandon are luxurious, but many budget-friendly options like prosecco or cava offer similar festive flair.

Triangle Wine Co. can guide you through understanding quantities, like how many guests a single bottle of wine serves or the capacity of a small keg. Remember it’s better to overestimate than to run out of wine. Bottles can always be enjoyed at post- or pre-wedding gatherings or saved for anniversaries. The journey to “I do” is filled with many celebrations — engagement parties, bridal showers, bachelor/

bachelorette events, brunches and rehearsal dinners — Triangle Wine Co. can be your partner for each of these memorable occasions. Their delivery and bartending services ensure everything from setup to serving is handled with finesse.

While it’s important to cater to your guests, don’t forget about your own preferences. Your wedding is a celebration of your love story, and the wine you choose should reflect your tastes. So, raise your glass and toast to what could be the most seamless and enjoyable part of your wedding planning — a partnership with Triangle Wine.

Triangle Wine Company is located at 144 Brucewood Road, Southern Pines. The shop is open noon to 6 p.m. Sundays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 910.246.2100 to schedule your free wedding consultation.

Elevate Your Event With Decor That Pops

Hold onto your bouquet because balloons are floating onto the wedding scene and are ready to take your aesthetic to new heights. Versatile, affordable and able to be tailored to match any wedding theme, balloons are an unexpected way to add elegance or whimsy to your ceremony or celebration.

“Balloons are fun and different, and everyone wants to have a really fun reception,” says Ashton Jones, owner of Balloon Girls. “There’s so much more you can do with balloons, and they can be really classy or more eclectic depending on the wow factor you want to bring to the occasion.”

If balloons evoke images of clown-themed birthdays or high school graduations, picture instead balloons in white and silver, gold or blush, in a mix of matte and glossy finishes. Envision elaborate displays of different shapes and textures that incorporate foliage, lights, ribbons, confetti and more.

Still think this decor idea is full of hot air? Here’s a list of ways balloons could play a role at your wedding:

• To make an entrance: A balloon arch placed at the doorway to your reception will make guests feel grand while hiding any unsightly exit signs or other unfortunate venue “accents.”

• To defy gravity: Use the lightweight medium to transform the ceiling above your dance floor or use floating balloon centerpieces for a tablescape that’s airy and uncluttered but still highly decorated.

• To create a special moment: “A lot of my customers have been opting for photo walls, a balloon-decorated wall that’s a photo op for their guests and turns into the place to really make memorable moments,” Jones says. She suggests clients up the ante by considering clear balloon tunnels, which replicate the effects of a mirror.

• To say it with style: Make a statement in helium with your names or wedding date, or create clusters with fun phrases like “Love is in the air.” Balloon Girls can also incorporate marquees and custom signage in any balloon display.

“The best place to start is by finding out what inspiration my customer has, what look they’re trying to achieve or what their goals are,” Jones says. “We talk about budget, and then I put together a proposal as well as mockups of what their final design will look like.”

Jones’ business is blowing up not only because of her attention to detail, but also because she’s dedicated to providing eco-friendly products and sourcing biodegradable latex brands. A Marine Corps veteran, she’s passionate about designing with American-made materials and providing up-front pricing. Like any good balloon business, Balloon Girls values transparency. Unlike many other balloon businesses, Balloon Girls does not charge customers a set-up or take-down fee.

“We handle the whole gambit, from consultation to clean up, and prices for a lot of our installs are listed on our website,” Jones says.

Her website also features her work for clients like Goodberry’s Frozen

Custard, Meet on May and Manifest Boutique, with fun shapes, colors and accessories that prove, when it comes to balloons, the sky’s the limit. The only question: Are you ready to pop the Champagne and float into your happily ever after?

For information, to see prices or to request a quote, visit balloongirlsnc.com. Balloon Girls also offers kids’ slumber parties with themed tents, set-up and take-down included. sponsored by balloon girls nc
