† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

from Philippians 2:6-11

We believe in Jesus Christ, who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, assuming human likeness. And being found in appearance as a human, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Therefore, God exalted him even more highly and gave him the name that is above every other name, so that at the name given to Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Many: And also with you.

READING AND HEARING THE WORD

ANTHEM The Gift of Love Hal Hopson; arr. Lloyd Larson

Though I may speak with bravest fire, and have the gift to all inspire, and have not love; my words are vain; as sounding brass, and hopeless gain. Though I may give all I possess, and striving so my love profess, but not be given by love within, the profit soon turns strangely thin. Come, Spirit, come, our hearts control; our spirits long to be made whole. Let inward love guide every deed; by this we worship and are freed. Let inward love guide every deed; by this we worship and are freed.

† PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS OLD HUNDREDTH

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Samaritan Woman at the Well

Throughout Lent we are using photography to explore the idea of wilderness.

In a prolonged conversation with Jesus at a well, a Samaritan woman must embrace her vulnerability. Though it can feel uncomfortable, the wilderness gives us an opportunity to explore our vulnerability to learn and grow.
