ANTHEM Lift High the Palms of Praise

Lift high the palms of praise! Hosanna! Hosanna! Sing out! Prepare the way! Hosanna! Hosanna! As He slowly rides along, people shout a joyful song. Now we add our voices strong, hosanna to the King. Lift high the palms of praise! Hosanna! Hosanna! Sing out! Prepare the way! Hosanna! Hosanna! Let the people now rejoice. All creation find her voice. Come and make a joyful noise, hosanna to the King! Open wide the gates of every heart. Wave the palms and let the celebration start. With our strength, God’s glory we proclaim. With our might, we praise His holy name! Lift high the palms of praise! Hosanna! Hosanna! Sing out! Prepare the way! Hosanna! Hosanna! He is David’s royal Son. He is heaven’s holy One. Oh, what wonders He has done, hosanna to the King. Hosanna to the King!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Rev. Matt Drumheller

Holy God, comforted by your compassion toward your people in every age, we beg your mercy for our imperfect gratitude. We have looked to you for paltry favors when you have given everything. We have withheld from your people, our neighbors, and from your creation the care and tending they deserve. Forgive our failings. Heal what we have broken and neglected.

READING AND HEARING THE WORD

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Philippians 2:6-11

We believe in Jesus Christ, who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, assuming human likeness. And being found in appearance as a human, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Therefore, God exalted him even more highly and gave him the name that is above every other name, so that at the name given to Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM Hosanna to the Living Lord

Robert C. Lau Hosanna to the living Lord! Hosanna to the incarnate Word! The Lord of hosts is with us; we praise His holy name. To Christ, Creator, Savior, King, let earth, let heaven hosanna sing! Hosanna Lord! Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna Lord your angels cry; Hosanna Lord, your saints reply. Come see the mighty works of God; now praise His holy name. Above, beneath us, and around, both dead and living swell the sound: Hosanna, Lord! Hosanna, Lord! Hosanna in the highest. Come now, and look at the works of the Lord, the glorious things He has done on earth. Be still, be still and know that He is God, and have no fear if the earth is moved, or the mountains fall into the sea. Be still, be still, and know that He is God. Be still, be still. So, in that last and dreadful day when earth and heaven shall melt away, take us to your glorious kingdom to live eternally. Your flock, redeemed from sinful stain, will swell the sound of praise again. Hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest.

Procession into Jerusalem

Throughout Lent we are using photography to explore the idea of wilderness.

On the last Sunday of Lent, we celebrate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, even though we know the pain his final week will bring. Christ’s bravery as he enters his own wilderness – the wilderness of his eminent betrayal and death – is a reminder that we can also be bold in the face of our fears. By the power of God, with the support of the Holy Spirit, we can be brave in the wilderness.
