Merciful God, all creation cries out, but we turn away. We are quick to excuse ourselves from responsibilities: we are too young; we are too old; we are tired; we are busy. We struggle to believe that we can make a difference. Forgive us, Lord, and restore our imaginations and our hearts.

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

From A Brief Statement of Faith

In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM Almighty God, Your Word Is Cast Kenneth T. Kosche

Almighty God, your Word is cast like seed into the ground; now let the dew of heaven descend and righteous fruits abound. Let not our selfishness and hate this holy seed remove, but give it root in every heart to bring forth fruits of love. Let not the world’s deceitful cares the rising plant destroy, but let it yield a hundredfold the fruits of peace and joy!

† PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

INTERCESSION, SUPPLICATION, AND CONSECRATION

One: In your mercy,

Many: Lord, hear our prayer.

and forever.

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

DISTRIBUTION OF THE BREAD AND CUP

One: The gifts of God for the people of God.

Many: Let us keep the feast.

Anthem: Come, Humble Soul

Come, humble soul, receive the food your Savior offers here. Believe and taste that he is good and longs each soul to cheer. Deem not that you to heaven can rise to meet your Savior there; he comes in mercy from the skies that you his bliss may share. He ever lives, and only they in whom the Lord abides; and here, that he in us may be, he richest food provides. Here we commune with him who dies, us power o’er death to give; the life of him now glorified we here receive and live! Come, humble soul, the Savior offers here. Believe and taste that he is good and longs each soul to cheer. Come, humble soul, receive. O Come, your Savior is here. O come.
