VALET WILL ICH DIR GEBEN

Many: We find hope in the kindness of a stranger, the turning of the seasons, the sounds of singing children.
One: What brings us hope?
Many: We find hope in the sunrise every single morning, the ringing of church bells, the community of faith.
One: Today we light the candle of hope to remind ourselves that God is at work in this world.
Many: From generation to generation, God has brought good news of love and compassion, justice and community. Let us worship with the hope of that good news.

CANDLE LIGHTING RESPONSE
O Come, thou Dayspring, come and cheer our spirits by thine advent here; disperse the gloomy clouds of night, and death’s dark shadows put to flight. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
† PRAYER OF THE DAY
† PRAYER OF CONFESSION Rev. Matt
DrumhellerGod of today and God of tomorrow, you tell us that there is room for us and we are welcomed, yet we believe our lives are too messy. You invite us to embrace our hopes and our dreams, yet we think that hope is too risky. You call us to accept our grief, yet we tell ourselves that some things are easier to forget. Lord, forgive us for withholding our full selves from you. Forgive us for giving only our Sunday best. Help us remember, today and tomorrow, there is room for every story.
† SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION

FIRST LESSON Isaiah 2:1 5
Old Testament Page 631 One: The Word of the Lord. Many: Thanks be to God.
† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Excerpt from A Declaration of Faith Jesus, the long-expected Savior, came into the world as a child, descended from David, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of Mary, a virgin. He lived as a Jew among Jews. He announced to his people the coming of God's kingdom of justice and peace on earth. We affirm that Jesus was born of woman as is every child, yet born of God's power as was no other child. In the person and work of Jesus, God himself and a human life are united but not confused, distinguished but not

separated. The coming of Jesus was itself the coming of God's promised rule. Jesus is Lord! He has been Lord from the beginning. He will be Lord at the end. Even now he is Lord.
