VOLUNTARY Gabriel’s Message

† SALUTATION Elyse Rogers

One: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Many: And also with you.

† HYMN My Soul Gives Glory to My God MORNING SONG

(All of today’s hymns are printed after the order of worship.)

† ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING Baiba Clemens

One: What makes you feel loved?

Many: We feel loved by being invited in, by home-cooked meals, by a warm embrace with a friend.

One: What makes you feel loved?

Many: We feel loved by God’s grace, filled by the Holy Spirit, included in the community of Christ’s church.

One: Today we light the candle of love as a reminder that from the very first generation, God has surrounded us with love. May this good news shape our actions and allow us to see God more clearly.

Many: In a lonely world, let this light shine bright. With love for God and neighbor, let us worship the Lord.

† Those who are able are invited to stand

CANDLE LIGHTING RESPONSE

O Come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

† PRAYER OF THE DAY

† PRAYER OF CONFESSION Rev. Matt Drumheller God of today and tomorrow, you create us in your image and call us to discover in one another your love. Yet we turn from one another, refusing opportunities to discover your presence. We neglect those in need and prioritize the wrong things. Forgive us, Lord, for all the ways that we fail to show your love to others, and the ways we fail to see you in those around us.

† SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION

†ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: In the name of Jesus, we are forgiven. Many: Alleluia, Amen!

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Excerpt from A Declaration of Faith Jesus, the long-expected Savior, came into the world as a child, descended from David, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of Mary, a virgin. He lived as a Jew among Jews. He announced to his people the coming of God's kingdom of justice and peace on earth. We affirm that Jesus was born of woman as is every child, yet born of God's power as was no other child. In the person and work of Jesus, God himself and a human life are united but not confused, distinguished but not

separated. The coming of Jesus was itself the coming of God's promised rule. Jesus is Lord! He has been Lord from the beginning. He will be Lord at the end. Even now he is Lord.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

THE OFFERING OF TITHES AND GIFTS TO GOD

ANTHEM My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord Randall Thompson

My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. He hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm, he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath holpen his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy; as he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed forever. Amen. † PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS OLD HUNDREDTH

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen. † P
