IN DULCI

JUBILO

Rev. Matt Drumheller

One: Holy God, too often we feel as if change is hopeless. The problems of this world feel too big, the path forward is unclear, and we are not confident that we can truly make a difference. Together we pray:

† Those who are able are invited to stand

Bold text is read or sung by all

Many: Forgive us for extinguishing hope.

One: Holy God, too often we believe that peace impossible. Our spirits are anxious. Our bodies are weary. Our world is fractured. Instead of praying for peace we assume that peace is no longer possible. Together we pray:

Many: Forgive us for extinguishing peace.

One: Holy God, too often we paint joy as naive. We forget that you knew joy, and that you want joy for us in this fractured world. Forgive us for turning away from your joy. Together we pray:

Many: Forgive us for extinguishing joy.

One: Holy God, too often we withhold love as a scarce commodity. But we know that love is meant to overflow, to spill out to our neighbors, to transform our world. Forgive us for holding love so tightly. Together we pray: Many: Forgive us for extinguishing love.

† SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION

†ASSURANCE OF PARDON

A CHRISTMAS STORY

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

New Testament Page 91

Excerpts from A Declaration of Faith Jesus, the long-expected Savior, came into the world as a child, descended from David, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of Mary, a virgin. He lived as a Jew among Jews. He announced to his people the coming of God's kingdom of justice and peace on earth. We affirm that Jesus was born of woman as is every child, yet born of God's power as was no other child. In the person and work of Jesus, God himself and a human life are united but not confused, distinguished but not separated. The coming of Jesus was itself the coming of God's promised rule. Jesus is Lord! He has been Lord from the beginning. He will be Lord at the end. Even now he is Lord.
