Letter from the Editor February is such a beautiful time. Sure, winter is at it’s freezing points, but Spring is right around the corner. This month is Valentine’s Day, which I’m not sure I agree on the concept. I often feel like Valentine’s day is just a holiday for stores to mark up the price of chocolate in a desperate attempt to make more money after having to cut down all the excess Christmas product. Really, this day is supposed to be about celebrating LOVE.... which, by right, should be done all year round rather than just one day a year. But, we stick to our traditions, and I’m not one to talk. I always require my special person to spoil me rotten. It’s just how we’re raised in this society.

Aside from Valentine’s day, it’s also Heart Month -- a month to take into special consideration the importance of a healthy heart, the disceerning facts about health, nutrition and how it effects your heart. Heart attacks, heart disease and other cardio issues come to light and for one month of the year everyone should drop what they’re doing and pay attention. Which again, should be done year round, but that’s none of my business. ;) So this issue is the 2nd in our new year and will be featuring the Love and Relationship expert herself, Laurel House. We’re lucky enough to have a column about Laurel every month in our magazine, but it’s predominantly her thoughts on the various aspects of love. Now we get to celebrate HER. So read on, and be sure to keep an eye out for our TWO ‘read and win’ prizes!

Keeping those Resolutions
by Jennifer Richard
Now is the time that everyone is coming up with their New Years’ Resolutions and praying that this year is the year that they stick. Here are some basic rules that will help you keep them this time around, maybe. First of all, you should choose obtainable goals. As much as I would love to resolve to make a million dollars in 2015, I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen. Weight loss, a better job, to exercise more, to be better at keeping in touch with friends and family; these are all obtainable. Create a game plan to work with. When you actually list out your resolutions, it’s on paper. There’s evidence. This gives you something to reference later when you try to talk yourself out of it or think to yourself “there’s no way that I actually said that”. Ask yourself why you want to accomplish that particular thing. Make a pros and cons list if you have to. When you ask yourself why you want something specific on your resolution list, you’re giving yourself the opportunity to decide whether this is something you really want to try or not.
If your resolution involves your financials and/or putting money away, try to automate it, have an automatic withdrawal from your paychecks to keep you accountable. Perhaps this way, instead of leaving it to yourself to tuck away, you’ll achieve the savings you were hoping for. Don’t be afraid of set backs. It happens to the best of us. Don’t let it get you down if you eat a full cake when you’re trying to lose weight. Just start over the next day and keep trying. You owe it to yourself to do whatever it takes, even if it means regular pep talks, or falling off the wagon every now and again. Do it with a friend. Accountability is a beautiful thing. Your bestie won’t let you fail, just as you won’t let her fail. Keep each other up to date on your progress and you’ll go that much farther. Stick to it. It is said that it takes 21 days for something that you’re trying to become a habit, and a full 6 months before it’s actually a part of you. Keep it up and you may surprise yourself.
Make some fun resolutions. Some rules are meant to be broken. If you make some fun ones that you know that Make it something you really want. If you really want to you definitely won’t see through to the end, this gives lose 50 pounds, put it on your list. If you really want a you more power over yourself to keep pushing for the new car this year, put it on the list and work for it. real ones.

Love You, First!
by Jennifer Richard
Sometimes it’s hard to find the love that you know you should have for yourself. We tend to bring ourselves down, talk ourselves out of doing certain things, and we’re our own worst enemies. Work on self-love, work on your own confidence, work on respecting YOU. Surround yourself with the right people. People that love you, people that lift you up, people that give you life. Whether that’s your best friend, your family, teachers, co-workers, or your partner or spouse, make sure that they’re the right person in your life. Too many of us keep “friends” around because we think that we’re supposed to, or that we might hurt someone’s feelings. It’s really okay to let people go. Especially if they’re not nurturing positivity in your life, if they are always negative, or if they’re just plain bringing you down. You need to be happy with the people that you’ve surrounded yourself with in order to be happy. When you’re happy with YOU, you’ll emit such positive vibes that it won’t be difficult to weed out the negative Nancy’s in your life.
your body. Even if you hate it. Think of all the amazing things it does. Love it. Stop comparing yourself to others. Oh, Brenda has a flat stomach? You carried three babies. Love Louise’s hair? Yours is thick and shiny. No matter what you do, don’t look at others and wish to have. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Love yourself. Clear out the junk in your life. Be it literal or metaphorical, rid yourself of any and all junk and negativity in your life. You’ll have a much cleaner and freer sense of self. You are blessed to be alive, to be loved, to be. Remember that.
Set boundaries for yourself. It’s okay to say no. If you don’t like something that’s happening around you, if you don’t like your job, if you’re not being treated with respect. Walk away. You deserve all of the happiness in the world and trudging along because you’re “supposed to” won’t get you anywhere. Take time for you. Pick your poison. If you love doing yoga, take an hour and do yoga. If you love drawing, sit down with your pad and utensils and draw your heart out. If you love to meditate, sit in a quiet room, alone, and become one with yourself. No matter what it is, if you take some time alone, just you, you’ll feel refreshed and ready for anything. Schedule yourself a “me” day, you deserve it. Appreciate you. Love yourself for your talents. Love

Romancing Those Nails
By Presley McGlashing,

The obvious colors to chose for Valentine’s Day are pinks and reds, but those colors don’t necessarily go with everything, or sometimes are too bright for the workplace. Here are the best choices for romantic nails without being too flashy:

Beauty Tips on A New Look By Lilly Babineau
Looking great and feeling great aren’t always in the same sphere of existence. There are days when you just aren’t feeling up to par with the rest of the world. It is in these moments that we should focus on ways to make ourselves feel better instead of waiting for the magic cure that makes all of our problems go away. Sometimes, just throwing on some eyeshadow and lipstick is enough to make a woman feel a little better for the day, even if it is only a temporary fix. For the days when you just aren’t feeling up to being your usual perky self, try some of these tips and see if it helps temporarily erase those blues. Instead of pulling your hair into the same messy bun that clings to the top of your head on a bad day, try doing something you’ve never done before. Something as simple as a change in hairstyle (especially trying something completely new) could brighten your day. If you have long hair, try braiding two sections on either side of your head near the face. Then, pull those two braids back and fasten them with a clip at the base of your neck (underneath your hair). Let the rest of your hair fall naturally over this, concealing the clip and creating a braided tiara around your head. For shorter hair, go curly for the day, or pin straight for once. Spike that hair if that’s what you want to do. In short, do something different. You might find you like it. It’s vital that you know, bad day or not, you are still beautiful. You’re the author of your own style and your own mood. If you’ve had a terrible morning, brighten the rest of your day by doing something bold and new. You have nothing to lose but those blues.

Face Masks @ Home! By Shawna Cyr Calder
The cold winter air wreaks havoc on our skin, leaving it dull and dry. Try one or all three of these homemade facial masks to replenish and hydrate your skin, and bring back some light to your face during these long dark winter months! Avocado, Egg yolk and Honey: This is a wholesome face mask which will leave your skin feeling super soft and hydrated. The avocado is full of vitamin E, healthy fats and antioxidants which will help keep your skin smooth. The egg will plump and tighten your skin and help clear any blemishes. Honey is a humectant, a natural moisture preserver, and also a natural antibiotic. You will need: 2 Tbsp of fresh advocado 2 Tbsp of honey 1 Tbsp of egg yolk Mix in a blender, until its paste is smooth and easy to spread. Apply directly to entire face and neck, while avoiding the eyes, mouth and nose. Allow it to sit for at 30-45 minutes and then rinse off with water. You can repeat this mask once a week. Oatmeal Mask: This oatmeal mask will make your face feel refreshed, and revived. It’s a great remedy for skin beaten by the cold winter air. Oatmeal is hypoallergenic, an exfoliant, and a natural moisturizer. It also contains 18 different ami-
no acids, which are essential for healthy skin. You just need equal amounts of: Oatmeal flakes Honey Yoghurt You can mix this mask by hand with a fork or spoon. Make sure everything is well mixed into a thick paste and apply it to your face, also avoiding your eyes, nose and mouth. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. This mask can be used twice a week for better and quicker results. Honey and Raw Milk: This is definitely the easiest face mask you can make to treat rough, dry skin due to the harsh winter wind. It will make your face glow instantly; leaving your skin deeply moisturized. All you need is: 5-6 Tbsp. of raw milk 2 Tbsp. of honey Mix well, and apply the smooth mixture on your face and neck and massage for up to 5 minutes. Let it sit for 20 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water. Hope you have fun creating these masks, as much as you enjoyed how well they worked!

Steps to Sexy: Your Go To Guide to Gorgeous!
By Shawna Cyr-Calder
As women we know we are all beautiful in our own way, both inside and out. Although on some days we tend to get down on ourselves, and it’s our confidence that usually gets the boot. Luckily we have the power to boost our self-esteem on those not so confident days. Here are some quick and easy steps for a quick pick me up. When it comes to hair, bigger is always better. Apply a volumizing spray then wrap your hair in hot rollers as you work on the makeup. After applying makeup, remove all the curlers from your hair and finger comb through the curls to release them slightly, but not too much. You want the curls to stay big and voluminous. Finish it up by spraying some hair spray to keep your curls in place. Flawless Face. Apply a moisturizer on your face as well as a perfecting liquid foundation. Follow up by applying translucent powder for a flawless finish. Create the perfect arch. Be sure that your eyebrows are properly groomed. The eyebrows should start above the inside corner of your eye and end at a diagonal length from the outside corner of your eye. Ideally the arch should be over your iris. A good arch will help make your eyes really pop and while also bringing your whole look together. Lighten up. Apply liquid highlighter to bring out your cheekbones and apply the same highlighter under your brows for a more awake look. Score the perfect cat eye. Apply a black liquid eyeliner to the bottom and top lids and wing the eyeliner out on the top lid only, and just slightly. Sexy lashes. Curl lashes then follow up immediately with an application of black mascara. For more volume, add false eyelashes to the outer corners of the eye. Get the pouty look. Begin with a nude lip pencil to line the outer most of your lips then fill in the whole lip to create a natural colour base. Go over your natural colour base with a light-pink lipstick. Then top it off with a clear shine gloss. For more radiance, apply a lip plumping gloss that contains ginger or peppermint. Wear some fragrance for allure. Choose your best fragrance and spray on your hair, pulse points and in your cleavage. Fragrance enhances your mood and makes you feel even more beautiful and sexy.

Bohemian Bliss By Melanie McLean
Bohemian style is going to be huge for spring 2015. Their entire collection is inspired by European travel, more specifically the collection was inspired by the “Grand Tour“, a traditional trip by young Europeans in the 18th century so they could see their little piece of the world before adulthood. Bohemian was a major part of this themed collection Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli take an excursion of their own for the springsummer 2015 collection. The more neutral fabrics contrast with bright stitchwort and embroidery. This collection is long and whimsical with tiered layers of worldly inspired prints. Looking down the runway we saw gladiator flats and colorful bags to complete the look. Another designer that was hit with Bohemian inspiration was Vera Wang .Wang was born a self-proclaimed tomboy who wears only black, yet she became the world’s foremost wedding dressmaker, which is one of the grisliest whitest days of most girls lives. Don’t you just love the juxtaposition? This season, the designer made her incongruities work for her, dividing her show into two acts. The program notes said, “Boyish Boudoir, Baby Bohemian.” And backstage, she explained, “There are two very distinct parts: One is tailored, the other side is very flowy.” Considering these two fashion houses have had the same bohemian inspiration it’s safe to say if you want to try this look Spring 2015 you won’t be alone.

Tell us about that. Screwing The Rules is the strategy to help women screw the conventional dating rules and finally find a love that lasts this time. It’s actually my 5th book. Interestingly though, it’s the first time that I am truly vulnerable and exposed. Many of my clients commented that they can hear my ingrained in every sentence. But more than my voice, the book is peppered with my own stories. From loving and stupidly leaving too many “too nice” guys, to dating a billionaire who gave me everything (and even spent half a million dollars on my surprise birthday party on a chartered yacht) except respect, and a “celebrity” chef who treated me like a piece of meat despite his serious jealous streak, I have literally seen and done it all. Many of my personal heartbreaks and serious screwups are in this book, introducing each section rooted in my belief that “I’ll show you mine, then you show me yours.” When it comes to dating, “games” are often dictated by the “rules,” which are perceived as manipulation. That’s the absolute wrong way to approach, find, and attract love. If you want to finally find your one, screw the rules and start doing the one thing that might be the scariest and hardest of all: be yourself. Get real, get raw, and reveal your vulnerability (which is actually your greatest strength when it comes to making you lovable). “Screwing The Rules; The No-Games Guide to Love” is the new rule-breaking book that will empower you to drop your facade and finally pull in the love you deserve. What inspired you to write this book? My clients and my little sister. As a dating coach with clients all over the world, I have heard stories that you wouldn’t believe. Or maybe you would. Maybe you have experienced them too. Because what’s interesting about
working with women from age 16-82, super successful CEOs to barely scrapping by single moms, stunningly gorgeous to wickedly smart, almost every single woman struggles with the exact same issues when it comes to dating: Vulnerability, Voicing their Needs, and Embodying their Power Feminine. I have experienced those exact same struggles too. Having been a prolific dater for a very long time I made a lot of mistakes. I used to “follow the rules.” I had an idea of what you’re “supposed to do” in order to play the dating game, which meant keeping my information close to my chest, not being vulnerable at the beginning, being picture perfect, and putting on the facade of what I thought the guy would want. I got a lot of guys to fall in love with me, but I wasn’t being true to myself, and therefore, I wasn’t being true to them. I ended up hurting people because they were in love with “perfect Laurel” and I didn’t love them back. I started to analyze my mistakes and people’s responses to them, and I realized there was a pattern, so I came up with a strategy to change it. I started coaching…and people started taking my advice and having different results for the first time. That led me to write Screwing the Rules. Professional life aside (the next few are just fun questions) , what would you say are your hobbies and interests?
If there was a movie about your life, who would play you and why? Sarah Jessica Parker! I have often been referred to as the real life Carrie Bradshaw. Though she is older than I am. Maybe Scarlett Johansson. I have been told I look like her. In fact, a production company recently contacted me with interest in doing a reality television show about me that is based on “Sex and the City.” If you could give relationship advice to anyone in the world, who would it be and why? Taylor Swift! Definitely. She seems like a deep, sweet, layered, interesting, obviously extremely talented woman. But when it comes to men, she’s just a little lost. I know… because I have been there. And, similar to her song writing style, I talk about my exes in my coaching, videos, and books. I don’t think that Taylor is naïve necessarily, but I do think that she is a pathetic romantic- as am I, and she jumps into love with both feet- as have I. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing! It can be a great thing! But it can open you up to a lot of pain and heartbreak. She needs to be more strategic. I can help with that.
What can we expect to see from you in the next year? I have LOTS of things brewing. A few are secret. But I am working on a TV show, my newt “Screwing The I have a black lab. She’s a rescue from Hurricane Kat- Rules” book, my amazing Hollyhock retreat, plus a lot rina and she, in many ways, saved my life too. I love just more life living that, of course, I will be documenting in hanging out with her. Rocking A Pant Suit BY MELANIE MCLEAN
Chanel has spoken and its official, the pant suite is back! If you peruse the pages of your favorite red carpet magazine, or check your favorite blog you will see your favorite fashion forward females rocking the pant suite. Cara Delevigne, Kendal Jenner and Rihanna are doing it right and after extensive research I will let you know how you can make it work for you to! They key to rocking a pant suit and keeping the look modern (and not look like you raided your Mom’s hand me downs from the 80’s) is a few things. First and most important is the overall fit of the piece, nothing males a suite look cheaper than having the shoulder seams too far down or your pants bunched at your ankles, if you’re going to try this look factor in the price of getting it tailored to the overall cost. Keep the look all in the same colour and if you’re feeling brave try to stay away from basic black, a key to pulling off this look is an edgy factor, and what’s edgier than an electric blue or even ruby red suite. Lastly, make sure you get a skinny pant or even a pencil leg, long gone are the days of the wide leg pantsuit for women, were not talking about Jenifer Aniston’s brown 4 button, wide leg pant suit from the days of Friends, we mean a sleek one or two button slim fit pant suite. Like I said, Chanel has spoken and it’s always fun to get s dramatic piece to add to your wardrobe, go find a suit.

Soft and cuddly on the skin, politically correct from a cruelty free perspective, the faux fur fashion trend is warming up the winter with its hot style. Faux fur lends itself to many different looks this year and is actually a sensible choice as far as winter coats and jackets are concerned. Light weight and comfortable, faux is easy to wear and stunning. This exciting trend is not just limited to your typical winter coats and jackets nor is it limited to special occasions anymore. The runways are ablaze with designers showcasing all the chic and hip ways to wear faux. Vivid hues and varied textures and lengths are making grand entrances. Designers are paying homage to the 70’s and 80’s with this new trend but the expansion of fur fashion has spilled into other areas that include vests and even dresses, giving a modern twist to this retro style. The cool thing about the new direction of winter fashion is that it’s now appropriate for all modes of dress. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing or where you’re going. You can show up looking fresh, sophisticated and fashion forward whether you are going to a cocktail party or just rocking jeans on your day off. This fashion is not just for dressy occasions anymore. The direction of this new look is resurfacing in both formal and casual styles. The mixture of distressed denim paired with fur is proving to be hot. Faux vests can easily be worn with a pencil skirt or leather pants creating an eye catching look. Yet the fur still looks great with your evening attire as well. Versatility is definitely the name of the game this season. This year’s faux will not have to patiently wait in the closet for formal events to make its debut. The opportunity to shine and be seen is ever present with many options available for pairing this hot phenomenon with denim, silk, pants and dresses. This season the sky is definitely the limit for faux fur.

Suede & YOU!
by Melanie McLean
Seems like all trends are cyclical right? When they come around the second time they are not always in the same way as it was originally. You may think of suede as the fabric your mother’s favorite bomber jacket was in the 90’s but it’s so soft an rich looking why not try it for ourselves right?! Suede is quickly becoming one of the most coveted textures. In shades of rich blue, dark green, burgundy, suede separates look especially rich. To pull it off, look and keep it modern opt for a boxy crop top, A-line skirts, or my personal favorite is a tee shirt sleeve dresses. If you’re having trouble trying to pare suede with anything that would work in matte leather, then it should work for suede. You can pair boots and a chunky knit with suede or wear a suede dress for evening with an edgy black heel. Suede is a fabric that stains somewhat easily so opt for darker tones and that will help give a piece more longevity, and suede tends to be a bit pricier so you want the best bang for your buck. There are also a lot faux options in the market that can give the real thing a run for its money which can help with the price tag, but if you are going faux just make sure it has some weight to it to give it that real look. Just remember, like anything else in the fashion world, with the right confidence you can pull anything off! Just remember to have fun.

Alternat ive Fashion
Fashion
by Lilly Babineau
You’ve seen them. Men and women whose dress sense seems not to fit into your idea of fashion. Think Rihanna and her see-through dress at the CDFA awards last year. No one had ever dared dress like that before and therefore, the dress had tongues wagging for a long time. Alternative fashion stretches boundaries. It is experimental and unconventional. It involves trying out different ideas, different colours and fabrics to suit your style. And guess what? If done well, it will look good! So how can you pull off such a look? The beauty of this style is that it relies mostly on your creativity to assemble it. You then come up with an outfit that though unusual will look good in totality. You use fabrics, colours and designs in a way that appeals to you but hasn’t necessarily been tried before. It is essentially an art. Look out for those oversize plaid jackets, chequered tights, shorts, tight jeans ripped in several places, boots, long skirts, colourful trousers. Pair this up with chunky jewellery. The look is completed with black or red nail polish. Ditto for the lipstick. So while other fashionistas will throw their faded jeans in the junk, those with an alternative fashion sense will pick up the faded jeans, rip it in several places, dip it in acid and pair it up with a tee shirt to come up with that casual but edgy look. Find an alternative fashion that appeals to you. Be it Lolita, Punk or Gothic. Remember that this fashion focuses on one’s personal taste and doesn’t require you to conform to the norm. It is self-expressive, which makes it easier to pull off. Is alternative fashion something you could pull off? Would you dare to try? Well, go for it. See how it looks on you!

Timeless Styles by Lilly Babineau
There are staples to every woman’s wardrobe that have been around forever. Being able to take basic pieces from your wardrobe and wear them over 100 different ways– that’s what makes them timeless. The Little Black Dress This timeless piece can be dated back to the 1920s when Coco Chanel aimed to design the little black dress with the idea of versatility and availability in mind. It appears Ms. Chanel has hit the nail on the head! Every woman should have a little black dress in her closet. The options for styling and accessorizing are endless, and when in doubt of what to wear it will probably never let you down. The Pencil Skirt With its slim fit and narrow cut, the pencil skirt can work for almost anyone. Christian Dior introduced the modern pencil skirt in the late 1940s, when it was mainly worn as office wear. Today, the pencil skirt is still more commonly worn as formal wear, but that’s not to say it can’t be worn as a casual piece as well. Depending on the exact shape of the skirt, the length of the hem, as well as the color or pattern, the pencil skirt can become a very versatile piece. It’s all in the styling. Pumps Wearing heels is like a right-of-passage for girls and women. Every woman should own one (if not more) pair of pumps. The color options and heel size are endless! Definitely try owning a basic pump– a black or creme with a shorter heel, something practical, but don’t be afraid to rock to a hot pink, four inch heel, or something covered in glitter. Pumps never go out of style because they can be worn casual or formal. They’re safe and classic. Pearls Pearl jewelry has practically been around since the beginning of time. They come in multiple shapes and shades of color, and they are simply a classic jewelry piece. Although some women may feel they are just a little “too classic” and old-fashion looking, there are so many modern takes on pearl jewelry today. They are defiantly not out of style looking at the selection of pearl jewelry from David Yurman and Tiffany. There are so many timeless pieces that offer so many styling options, this is just the beginning. Think about your basic white T-shirt, or your sexy leather jacket, or your chic light brown trench coat. Some things just never go out of style.

For Valentine’s Day you could go for a casual “cute” looking dress. Keeping the dress on the cute side will make it look like you’re taking the situation less serious and having more fun with it. Go for a whimsical pattern or a light color in a feminine fabric. If a dress is not really your style than opt for a flowey blouse paired with skinny jeans and heels. The heels and blouse will add a level of sophistication and the jeans What do you predict will be in style for Summer will again help you tone it down. 2014? Fashion is always a step ahead so we already have a little preview of what is to come in the warmer months this year. This Summer I’ve been seeing a lot of transparency. Sheer tops are back and mesh is also on every runway. Patterns this summer are loud and semi obnoxious but are toned down with muted colors that blend together. Think of faded tapestries and sun bleached looks. Ruched tulle is being used to make everything from tops to dresses and add to the transparency seen on the runways. The colors for this summer are similar to last year’s pastels. I’ve been seeing periwinkle, peach, white, and even soft burgundies as the main color pallets for most summer collections. What do I wear on my Valentine’s Day date with my new boyfriend? The first few dates can be a very stressful time when it comes to picking your outfits. You want to look puttogether (think Kim Post-Kanye) but you don’t want to look like you tried to hard (think Kim Pre-Kanye).
Fashion What’s “Out” Neon – As bright as this trend shined last year, like almost every child star in Hollywood this trend is burned out. We saw neons in every highlighter color and on every article of clothing. As fun as this trend was, spring is here and has a mellower vibe. Think less highlighter yellows and more soft peaches, whites and periwinkles. This spring’s color pallet is light and airy which I think we are more than ready for after the blinding colors of last summer
What’s “In” When February rolls around yes love is in the air but the only butterflies I’m getting are from the spring 2015 prints. Like old boyfriends and girlfriends it’s time to throw trends like neon’s and cross prints out and move 70’s inspired trends in. This is in my opinion what’s “In” and what’s “Out” for February 2015.
Cross Prints – This trend was cute and sometimes edgy but it’s time is up. I feel every year has a print that is used to death and last year’s was the cross. It was found everywhere and has developed a cheap look to it. Let’s leave the cross pattern to the professionals and keep it in religious circles. It’s still a little early in the year to know what this year’s print will be but don’t worry, it’s only a matter of time before some animal, religious symbol or food catches on.
Suede – This is one very chic 70’s inspired trend that is taking over this year’s spring runways. Suede jackets are huge this year and can be found in cute cropped jackets and also belted trenches. When opting for a suede jacket go for neutral earth tones like brown, sand and khaki. Suede boots are also trending this season and compliment the 70’s vibe perfectly. Think knee high suede boots that fit close to the leg. This trend is great from head to toe and will have you thinking more peace and less war. Florals – Now this might not seem all that shocking when thinking of spring trends but this year’s florals have a twist, literally. Keeping with the trend of the 70’s, spring florals this year are taking twists and swirls and looking more like paisley. Loud and almost obnoxious patterns are a huge trend this season and are balanced out with more muted and soft colors which are exactly what these paisley florals look best in. Choose your florals in dusty pinks, soft reds, light periwinkles, and subtle peaches.

Necklines & Your Body Shape
by Lilly Babineau
Necklines are part of almost all the outfits such as blouses, tops, jackets, shirts, coats, dresses, etc. Though there are plenty of variations available, you have to decide which style and shape of the neckline will match you. Body shape is one of the main factors that helps in the process of selecting a perfect neckline for you. A top or dress with a suitable neckline will make you look more elegant and presentable. Here are some basic body shapes and specific necklines that are suitable for each shape:
Apple V-shape is the current fashion and it looks good on apple-shaped women. You can either deepen or raise the neckline as per your wish. Spring Wedding Trends 2015! by Shawna Cyr-Calder
Touch of colour, or pops of colour!? With spring always comes a fresh start--flowers blooming, leaves growing, snow melting revealing the resurrection of the Earth beneath it. When you picture this, you picture colour, and tons of it, so there is no doubt that fashion trends will follow suit. Even some wedding trends follow suit with this years coloured wedding dress trend, but think less bright pops of colour, and more pastels like softs shades of gray, pink, blue, and even green!
would be to go with this cool twist on traditional lace fabric. Show off some skin, but in an elegant and classy way with this lovely trend. The Great Gatsby Effect The 2013 movie based on the book by the same name has been making waves in the fashion industry just last fall with 20’s styled bowl hats, but that’s not the only thing its effected. 20s and 30s inspired dresses have landed on the runway for the 2015 Spring bridal collection as well. Romantic shapes of slip-like dresses and traditional patterns created with exquisite beading, delicate lace and light ethereal layers of sheer silk are all part of the vintage look for this Spring.
If you can’t stop thinking of bright pops of colour, an option you have is to match some rubber boots to your colour scheme, and dress it with a plain white wedding dress... Maybe even go tea length! Want a little vintage feel, without going all out on the For more of that spring feel, dress your bridesmaids in dress, then just add a little red lipstick to the mix. butterfly-covered dresses. Bringing sexy back! Keep a little sex appeal in the mix without showing off some cleavage. Deep hems, revealing your bare back or at least giving the illusion of a bare back is definitely all the rage for Spring 2015. Not into the bare back trend? Tulle caplets, and lace shrugs are also in this Spring which can help cover up your back even more, and maybe even keep you a little warmer during the cool spring nights. Keep It Seperate Through out 2014 we have seen a boat load of celebs rocking two piece dresses on the Red Carpet, and finally that trend found its way onto the runway for the Spring 2015 bridal collection. It’s a great way to work that daring side of yours by wearing two separate pieces or by showing of a toned stomach all with the help of the crop top and long skirt mix. Naked Lace Another way to turn heads, and drop jaws this Spring

Your Perfect Hair
by Kandas Michaud
We have all had at least one horrible experience at a hair salon, where we have left the salon unsatisfied with our new do. Even in some cases, left in tears. I know I have had this experience, more than once. How do you avoid this mess? How can you make sure you have found a hairstylist who will give you what you want? Inform yourself, ask around to see where other people have gone. Don’t ever be afraid to approach someone. Ask who their stylist is, or what salon they go to. Do your research before sitting in the chair! Once you have gotten some feedback on a stylist, one you are going to try out: -Make sure to PROPERLY discuss the style you are looking for. What you do and do not like about your hair. What look you want to achieve. If you are still uncertain about what you would like to do, ASK the stylist their opinion. See what they think would look good on you! They may have suggestions that you would have never thought of but that you may be curious to try. They will know what cut would most compliment the shape of your face and what color would complement your skin tone. (Well, at least they should, we did go to school for this!) Let them know what you do as a profession, you do not want to leave the salon with bright pink hair when you have an office meeting on Monday morning. Something too short may not be ideal for someone who has a toddler who has discovered the beauty of pulling on things. (Most likely, you will end up with one massive headache!) The person who is giving you a service should always completely understand what you are asking for. If you are not sure the stylist has understood, ask them to repeat what you are looking for. It is difficult when you are not both on the same page. You could end up with that disaster we are trying to avoid! -If you have ANY questions as the stylist is working, never be afraid to ask what they are doing.
44
They may be using a pair of shears you are not familiar with. They may use a razor in your hair and you are not sure what it will do. The color bowl may not seem to be what you have asked for. These are all questions people have asked me, there is definitely a simple explanation for every question. So I cannot stress enough on having a PROPER consultation with the person preforming your service! -When it comes to blow drying your hair, ask to be educated on the products they are using. If you have sensitive scalp, make sure you mention it to your stylist. We do not want you leaving with an irritated scalp, feeling itchy or like you have dirty hair. If you find there is not enough natural body or fullness in your hair, ask for something that will give the illusion of having a full head of hair. If you find your hair is too thick and coarse, the stylist should be using something to just hold the set and maybe a bit of soft oil to smooth it down. Never anything to add extra body, you will be left feeling like you have a lion’s mane. Don’t get me wrong. Big hair is all the rage in Hollywood, but it is not suitable for everyone and we do all want to look our very best. -Get the stylist to talk you through the style they are giving you. If the stylist is using a big round brush, ask them why. If the stylist is using nothing but their hands, find out what look that will achieve. Watch the motion they are doing with the tools. You want to educate yourself as much as possible before leaving the salon. It is nice to be able to achieve the same look at home! Let’s face it- We all want to look beautiful from morning to night! I hope this has helped a little to find a great stylist and having great hair all the time! No one needs to feel bad about their hair, c’mon it is one of the first things people notice! Stay beautiful xo

One benefit is that restaurant staff can be enlisted as accomplices to make sure that things go smoothly. Often the ring is placed in a glass of champagne or next to dessert on a plate and delivered to the table. These are the proposals we’ve all seen thousands of times in movies and on television. Although some may see these types of proposals as unoriginal or overdone, they are still popular and sweet. Gifts He’ll Love and Hate by Angela Vincent
Yeah, yeah, we all know that when it comes to giftgiving, it’s the thought that counts. That being said, there are some basic rules to follow when buying gifts for men. To be perfectly honest, most men would probably prefer a night of hot sex over a gift any day. If you are going to buy a gift though, try to remember that functionality is key. The majority of men would rather be given something they will use than something with “sentimental value”. The following is a list of gifts guys love and gifts most men can do without.
Avoid:
Do Buy:
- Boxers or a Tie: The two most unoriginal Valentine’s gifts in the history of the universe. As I mentioned earlier, if you’re going to buy underwear, buy something racy for yourself and wear it for him.
- A Funny Card: The poems and sappy sentiment may be less appreciated than something humorous.
- Stuffed Animals. Seriously girls, what do you think he’s going to do with a stuffed monkey holding a heart? They’re cute for children, but not for a grown man. - “His and Her” Clothing: Matching hats, jackets, and shirts might seem adorable to you, but men generally hate them. Dressing your man up like you is a surefire way to make him feel immasculated. Don’t do it.
- A Do-It-Yourself Beer Kit: Beer. Enough said.
- A Gift Card: Newsflash! Men aren’t usually huge fans of shopping. Not only does does a gift card show that - A Home-Cooked Meal: The way to a man’s heart is you put literally zero thought or effort into his gift, it often through his stomach. Save him the hassle and also forces him to engage in an activity that he probably expense of taking you out by cooking his favorite meal hates. at home. At the end of the day, a gift should show your man that - Tickets for Two: Find tickets to see a favorite band or you care about him about him and that you know what his likes and interests are. His Sexy Secret Wants by Angela Vincent
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. Communication is crucial to successful and long-lasting relationships. This communication doesn’t end at the bedroom door. Unfortunately, many men and women avoid conversations about sexual issues due to shyness or concerns about potentially causing arguments or hurt feelings.
women at the same time?). It doesn’t mean that he’s asking you to engage in the physical act. Sometimes just talking about sexual fantasies can be erotic. Be openminded enough to allow your man to be honest about his thoughts and fantasies.
1) He wants you to watch porn with him. A lot of men would love to watch porn with their partner. Some women find men’s attraction to porn disturbing for a variety of reasons. But, men are visual creatures. If your partner can only perform sexually after watching dirty videos or watches them constantly, then there may be a cause for concern.
Although less well known, there are lots of toys at your local sex shop that can benefit both partners or men only. Incorporating these into your repertoire can spice things up considerably.

Rising Musical Sensation
Kathryn Dean
Recently, we were lucky to be able to interview rising musical sensation Kathryn Dean. Here’s a look at our conversation! In an interview with American Voice Factor, you said you’ve been known to stick through relationships longer than you should have for writing purposes? Are break ups something that influences you the most in writing? If not what does? Romance at any stage in the relationship is quite inspiring because no matter what cards life deals you, there will always be ups and downs. Both parties can do everything “right” and a relationship can still falter. By the same token, a relationship can be super messy but still somehow work, which is an idea that I explored in my song, “For Us We’d Do Anything”. That being said, romance is not my only source of inspiration. Any experience that solicits an intense emotional response is usually song-worthy. I always say that as an individual, I am not a fan of drama, but as a songwriter, I find it to be pure gold!
Have you ever started a relationship for the sake of having something to write about during a “dry spell”? All I will say is that a lady never tells and a good songwriter always keeps his/her eyes and options open! In the same interview you were asked about the back story of your single “I’ll Show You Crazy” and you said you find there isn’t enough songs about the other girl? What are your personal thoughts about the other girl? What if she knew about the man’s girlfriend is the song still directed towards her? Or is it just directed towards the one being played... While I do not condone infidelity, as someone who has unknowingly been the other woman, I have come to see a different perspective of the situation. The other woman is often vilified for ruining everything and serving as a home wrecker while the cheating boyfriend/husband tries to make himself seem like an innocent bystander who got caught up in the mistress’s charms. At the end of the day, the other woman did not cheat, he did. “I’ll Show You Crazy” is, in part, about shifting the blame towards the main perpetrator, the guy, and also about telling the other woman that she is worthy of being someone’s only woman. Who inspire/inspired you to be a singer/songwriter? Why? Music has always been a huge part of who I am. I remember when I was in Montessori, my teacher taught us all “You’ve Got A Friend,” by Carole King, which was the first (real) song I ever memorized. When it came time to sing it in front of all of the parents, the majority of my classmates were too shy to sing or did not remember all of the words, which I guess was all 3-year old K.D. needed to belt out every word and take the spotlight!

You started writing two years ago? What motivated you to start? I have always found singing along with and listening to music to be very therapeutic. To find a song that so truly expresses what you are feeling is a gift, and I figured that
what better way to ensure that I have a song to guide me through the emotional rollercoaster that is life than to write those songs myself. Your voice is so full of emotion when you sing, is there something you do before performing to get you in the right mindset to deliver the song the way it was meant to be delivered.. or is the emotion always just there when you sing specific songs? The purpose of art, whether music, literature, film, etc., is to connect with an audience and make them feel what the artist/subject felt in the moment of the work’s creation. A song is no different. As the songwriter, it is my job to capture the narrator/subject of the song’s emotional journey and tell her story. When I sing and perform, I try to leave behind who I am or whatever may be happening in my life and become the person whose point of view I wrote from and be authentic to what she would be feeling. Where’s the best place to write? I have been known to grab a notebook and a Sharpie and go hang out in a shower stall or bathtub (fully clothed) to write my songs. The acoustics are great in there and allow me to better hear the melodies and phrases that I am crafting. Unfortunately, my song ideas usually do not come to me at convenient times, so I have a bunch of ten second recordings and random lyrical couplets stored on my phone. Have you always seen yourself being a singer/songwriter? If not, what did you picture yourself doing when you grew up? I have always wanted to be a professional singer/ songwriter, but up until about a year ago when I met my now manager, Dave Woeckener, and this whole project began, it did not seem possible. If singing were not an option, my love of wordplay would have likely led me to a career in marketing/advertising. Have your friends and family always been supportive of your career choice? Thankfully, yes! I am so grateful to have such a strong support system that encourages me to make my dreams a reality. What’s the biggest struggle you’ve come across while doing what you’re doing? Trying to generate the initial momentum that is required for a career in this business to really take off,
whether that be getting fans to come to live shows, or finding ways to make videos go viral, is not an easy task. Thankfully I have a great team helping me and I’m hoping that 2015 will be a breakout career. Best compliment you have ever gotten in regards to your singing? Your songs? I recently saw a tweet from a fan in Brazil whose 3 favorite artists are Lorde, Lady Gaga, and Kathryn Dean. To be put in their company is incredibly humbling! What charities do you work with? Why? I have had the opportunity to work with a number of great charities including the ASPCA, Girl Up, and One Voice organizations. If a charity involves animals or children in need, I am probably a supporter! Advice for other aspiring music artists...? Every experience you have or person you work with can provide you with an opportunity to learn something new about yourself as an artist and/or as an individual. No one person has all of the answers, but many have one piece of the puzzle.

Fixing Your Mood, With Food!
Author Heather Lounsbury
Heather Lounsbury’s new book, Fix Your Mood With Food, tells us how to eat properly with a ‘Live Natural, Live Well’ approach to our overall health. We had the opportunity to talk to Heather earlier this month, and here’s what she had to say!
What got you interested in taking on such a difficult, or so it seems difficult, project in writing a book? A big reason for writing this book was the inspiration I got from my patients. It’s incredibly courageous to want get to the root cause of your health issues. Whether they are physical or emotional. They’ve all seen at least some improvement from my treatments, nutritional counselling, and herbal remedies. So I wanted to get the information of nutrition improving your mood to as many as people as possible. Writing the book was the best way. Have you always wanted to write a book? I’ve wanted to write a book for about 10 years. Wanting and doing are two different things though. I took me about 2 years to write and 3 months of editing. I’m incredibly proud of the book and its message. Writing a book and actually getting it published by a publishing house took a lot of focus, energy, and determination. I’m very grateful for the experience. Was it as hard to write a book as one would think? Maybe even harder! I thought my knowledge and pretty decent writing skills would take me far, which they did. But the fine tuning and really finding my voice in over 60,000 words to a lot of brain power. Any advice to those looking to write a book themselves? You really have to want to do it and be passionate about your message. Give yourself a weekly writing schedule and deadlines. Being confident in your week is incredibly important. Also, with the age of social media, you need an online presence to get a publisher. What got you interested in studying holistic medicine, and nutrition? I started questioning Western medicine when I was in high school due to a severe case of mono and becoming a vegetarian. I decided to start studying nutrition for my own health and loved it. This lead me to learning about herbs and supplements. Learning about the body and a holistic approach to healing was so fascinating to me
that I decided to make it my career. What is the most interesting fact you have ever come across through your studies? I had a huge epiphany the first week or so in graduate school for Chinese medicine. Every illness, pain, discomfort may have, and most likely does, comes from an emotional issue. I go into great detail as to how anger, fear, worry, grief, and heartache manifest physically in the book. For example, repressed anger, stress or resentment can manifest as muscle tightness, vision issues, PMS, high blood pressure or ringing in the ears. Just to name a few. What is the most common misconception about Holistics? Specifically with Chinese medicine there are a few untrue myths I want to share. That acupuncture hurts. No! The needles are as thin as a strand of hair. You shouldn’t feel them once they’re in. Almost all of my patients fall asleep during a treatment. There’s no proof it works. Apart from over 5000 years of helping people, there are plenty of studies proving the benefits of Chinese medicine. In Asia, they’ve been conducting studies for decades. NIH (the National Institutes of Health) agrees and has proven that acupuncture works for many health issues. That anyone can be an acupuncturist. I get asked on a regular basis, if I had to go to school. My education was almost 5000 hours to get my Masters degree. Half of those hours were Western medicine. I had to take a very difficult state licensing exam where just a little over half the people taking it pass. I also have to take 50 hours of continuing education every two years to renew my license.
fibroids, cramps, irregular cycles. I also treat a lot of people with anxiety, depression and addiction issues.
What experiences had the most influence in bringing you to where you are today? My becoming a vegetarian has had the biggest impact on my career or I might not have started studying nutrition. The incredible teachers I’ve been lucky enough to learn What advice would you give someone trying to lose weight? from over the years. Reduce anxiety/depression? For weight loss. Eat as many vegetables as you like without any rich sauces or creamy dressings. You will acquire a taste for healthy food. At least 2/3 of your plate should be veggies. Eat every 2-3 hours to speed up your metabolism. Avoid- sugar and dairy to aid in weight loss. That means all forms of sugar except fruit. For depression, eat dark, leafy greens, celery, artichoke and cabbage. For anxiety- grapes, asparagus, black beans and seaweed. Email: info@pinkblitz.com to enter the draw! What do most of your clients come to you for? To help Draw Date: Feb 14, 2015 manage/fix what? Most of my patients are women. So I treat a lot of gynaecological issues- PMS, menopause, infertility,
