EDUCATION

College of Charleston North Campus

Back to School? Before committing time, money and resources to continuing your education, ask yourself these questions: 1. Do I need more education to further my career or meet my goals? Clarify your objectives to determine if you are making the best choice. Are you moving into a new field, in need of an advanced degree for promotion or looking to improve your life? 2. Is the timing right for me and my family? Keep in mind that in addition to coursework, you will need to study, do homework, work on projects and write papers. Consider your stress levels, childcare resources and the assistance you will need to support you through it. 3. How much time/money can I invest? Evaluate the benefits of the degree or certificate; does the job you seek to obtain offer proper compensation to justify the expense? 4. What are my options? Evaluate the opportunities in your area; there may be options that you had not considered. 5. Am I ready? Making a commitment to an academic pursuit and seeing it through to completion takes stamina. Be prepared and go for it!

With modern classrooms, a convenient location, and classes tailored to working professionals and adult students, the College of Charleston North Campus is a gateway to a better and more rewarding career. Completing your Bachelor’s degree is easy, with classes offered in the evening, online or in a seven-week express format. betty buzz: FURTHERING YOUR CAREER

Five essentials that are critical to building towards growth and success in your career. 1. Set Goals and Action Steps Keep an updated list of goals that you’d like to achieve monthly, annually and in 5 and 10 years. Systematically strategize for how to achieve them by making an action plan with clear, measurable steps you must take to get there.

4. Have an Advancement/Exit Strategy Keep abreast of industry trends and transitions, seek training and experiences to improve your skills, keep your resume up to date and seek out opportunities, internal and external, when they arise.

2. Network Create personal and professional relationships to expand your reach and resources. Make strategic networking decisions and be sure to properly convert contacts to relationships that you maintain.

5. Don’t Get In Your Way How many times have you stopped yourself from going for it? You are powerful - do not convince yourself otherwise. Say “yes” to opportunities and let yourself soar.

3. Toot Your Own Horn The Harvard Catalyst study, “The Myth of the Ideal Worker” (Nancy M. Carter and Christine Silva; October 2011), found that women who were proactive about making their achievements known advanced further, were more satisfied and were compensated better. Ensure your managers are aware of your accomplishments, seek credit and feedback and ask for promotions when appropriate.

Switch to a moisturizing body wash and a shampoo that includes the ingredients zinc pyrithione (Head and Shoulders) or coal tar (Neutrogena T/Gel) to alleviate dry, itchy scalp. • Hydrate. Your skin is an organ and it needs its daily supply of water to maintain a healthy glow.

My vision is to return our bodies to their original state of health through massage, esthetics and organic treatments. I believe in actively educating and helping my clients to correct harmful habits in order to lead a more healthy and healing lifestyle.

CATERING

Cru Catering

Wedding Savers Remember to preserve momentos from your wedding day and have your wedding planner, friend or family member help you gather these keepsakes and give them to you upon your return from the honeymoon: • Wedding Cake Whether you keep the top tier or a couple of pieces, wrap your cake in plastic, then aluminum foil and seal in an air tight container before freezing. If you use a wedding cake topper, these look great in a curio cabinet and can be passed down through your family. Consider using a cake service that is a family heirloom or start a new tradition for your family. • Champagne Keep a bottle of the champagne you serve at your reception to enjoy on your one year anniversary and keep the champagne flutes you use as well. • Bouquet You can preserve your entire bouquet in a shadow box or press one flower in your wedding book. • Accessories Be sure that your veil, garter and jewelry are poperly and safely stored; these make great “something borrowed” items for loved ones. • Paper Trail Keep a copy of your save the date, invitation, program and any other paper items that you’d like to preserve.
