LET TER FROM THE EDITOR
Ever since I was little, my dream was to change the world and to make a difference in people’s lives. However, my past mistakes led me further and further away from my hopes and dreams. Since then, I turned my life around and found my true purpose in life. This year, I was able to work with my fellow regional board members to choose this year’s Pacific Region Service Project. We decided to give back to the community for the holiday season. Some chapters chose to donate to the Salvation Army Angel Tree Event and other chapters had their own projects. I was inspired to see the hard work each chapter had done and it showed me that we can make a difference in this world. With that, I wish to thank each and every chapter, school, and person that contributed to this project. With each selfless act of kindness, a seed is planted for the next generation. "When you pick up an Angel Tree tag, you and The Salvation Army brighten Christmas for a child and elderly in need" Along with the familiar Red Kettles, the Angel Tree program is one of The Salvation Army's highest profile Christmas efforts. Angel Tree was created by The Salvation Army in 1979 by Majors Charles and Shirley White when they worked with a Lynchburg, Virginia shopping mall to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmas time. Since then, the tradition has expanded and now is the cornerstone of The Salvation Army's Christmas efforts.
Psi Sigma As our charitable service project, the Psi Sigma officers chose to support Ka Hale O Ke Ola, a homeless resource center on Maui. For this project, Psi Sigma started and Amazon Smile campaign and signed up to feed homeless adults and children. We were given a date to serve a meal in March, 2017. For the Smile campaign, we created an email and a Facebook post. Because we are aware that the holidays/finals can be a stressful time for students, we also created a "de-stress" color sheet for students that had information about the Amazon Smile campaign on the back (studies show that coloring and being charitable are two things that can reduce stress;).
Alpha Kappa Iota Alpha Kappa Iota chose to donate to the Salvation Army Angel Tree Project. Our chapter raised a total of $451 in donations from many supporters. Some of the angel tree gifts that we donated were a blanket, basketball, bean bag chair, standing fan, and more. We enjoyed doing this project because during the holiday season, we know that people are busy buying presents for their own loved ones. Unfortunately, we also know that many individuals don’t have the luxury of receving gifts. So this year, we wanted to let a few individuals know that they do have an angel watching over them.

Alpha Pi Xi Members and advisors from Alpha Pi Xi spent their day doing an amazing job with their massive roadside cleanup project on the island of Kauai. They hauled out tons of trash from car tires, to home appliances, and much more. They really showed how to get down and dirty.
Alpha Kappa Psi Alpha Kappa Psi decided to hold a bake sale on Monday, December 5th in conjunction with the Board of Student Activities (BOSA) free “ice cream social.” Members donated the ingredients for cookies and brownies; one member designed the tag to go on the small bag of baked goods we sold, and then we spent a minimal amount on bags and twist ties. We put 2-5 cookies and/or brownies in a bag and sold them for $3 a bag or 2/$5. Some of our members helped (BOSA) scoop ice cream in exchange for the foot traffic their free ice cream gave us. We sold out in about 3 hours. Eight members got together at one of the member’s home and did all the baking and packing on Sunday, December 4th. It was a lot of fun. Great fellowship activity. Several of the members who participated had not yet even been inducted and so it was a chance for everyone to get to know each other.
We raised a total of $350.00 and were able to make the Christmas wishes of 10 angels come true. We were able to buy everything each angel had listed on their wish list. This is what we got: 1. Coffee maker for an unnamed, Senior 2. Toddler books for an unnamed, 2-year old 3. Tower fan for Charles, 79 years old 4. Nerf gun blaster for Mitch, 7 years old 5. Blue Razor scooter for Ryder, 13 years old 6. Red Razor scooter for Leyao, 12 years old 7. Watch/perfume for Jennifer, 12 years old 8. Wallet, basketball and Star Wars toy for Luther, 14 years old 9. Woman’s watch for Rainey, 80 years old 10. New purse for Maggie, 79 years old
Thank You We wish to thank everyone again for all the hard work that you and your chapter have done. We hope that you continue to work hard and spread Aloha throughout your life. Remember that being in Phi Theta Kappa is a big honor and privilege. So study hard but play even harder.
