Hospitality and Catering The vision of Africa Christian Teaching Service is to equip it’s students with a holistic education, enabling them to compete with the spectrum of vocations within the developing economy of Burundi.
On the verge of completion this high specification centre will enable the students to learn high level skills in Hospitality and Catering whilst serving the community and generating its own income.

The centre comprises of kitchen and store room, a restaurant, IT suite, boutique, bakery and washroom facilities. All rooms have reflective glass, allowing light to flood in, afford stunning views whilst maintaining privacy for student and clients from the outside. Apart from the bakery it is floored throughout in light-coloured reflective tiles with mid-grey grout and white ceilings are streamline lightweight suspended panels supporting ample florescent strip lighting.
The Kitchen: Spacious and well equipped with four drainer sinks with water heaters on two of them. Masses of storage space in contemporary cupboards, draw units and shelving are in addition to a large adjoining store room. There are two island work stations for food preparation and plating up, large double fridge and freezer, microwaves and a large eight burner propane gas hob and cooker.

The Restaurant: In this large, airy space, modern, locally sourced tables and durable seating will afford the visitor comfort and ambiance. Two round stainless steel basins, set in extended table tops provide hand-washing facilities for customer hygiene and convenience. There are two sets of double doors, those at the rear leading to two round outdoor and weather-proof alternative eating facilities.

The IT suite: This sits between restaurant and boutique, affording the ideal working environment with U-shaped centralised benching facing the teacher’s work station and a main white screen for the overhead suspended digital projector. Around the room there are five double socket points and double glass doors sit at the front and rear of the room.

The Boutique: Fresh breads, pastries and cakes will be displayed here on purpose built counters, baked by students for selling to the wider community. Another opportunity here for developing business enterprise and leaning important sale skills.

Toilet and wash room are located adjacent to the restaurant for client convenience and a private bedroom and shower room are provide for the comfort and hospitality of the vocational centre’s onsite chef.

The Bakery: On the north side of the complex sits the extensive bakery with vast ovens and a ‘state of the art’ generator. There is ample space here at the hub of the centre for hands on teaching, learning and essential team work.

The whole complex, apart from the bakery is tiled in a beautifully reflective cream tone with mid-grey grout between. The internal walls will be painted in pastel shades of pink (for the boutique), soft grey (for the kitchen to tone with the counters), lime green (in the restaurant) and sandypeach (in the IT suite). The exterior walls will be rendered in a rich cream-coloured emulsion. All doors and window frames with be painted in a mid-grey gloss to tone with the tile grouting, work counters, stainless steel accessories and the galvanised steel roofing. All of the finishes have been selected to enhance the light and cleanliness of the centre.

The concept of this vocational centre sitting within the greater complex of Herridge Technical School and teacher’s houses is to provide a centre of excellence for teaching and learning, producing well qualified young adults for a place in our fast developing 21st century country.
