STAR SPREADS SPREAD BETTING FOR GENTLEMEN
2010/11 FOOTBALL SPREAD BETTING GUIDE
The World Cup is over, but here comes the new season England were their normal disappointing selves at this year’s World Cup, but at least we have some top quality domestic and European action to look forward to this season. Chelsea showed their quality in 2009/10 and they will be a tough nut to crack this time around. They are our favourites in the total points market with a spread of 81.5-83, with Manchester United hot on their heels at 80.5-82. Manchester City are the big talking point again and they have already bought some top quality players. Anything less than a Champions League place will be unacceptable for Roberto Mancini and we reckon they will finish third in the table with 73.5-75 points. Liverpool have been in turmoil over the past year and they may struggle to get into the top four again with a points spread of just 68.5-70. The Championship looks wide open with a whole host of teams that could earn the golden ticket into the Premier League, while La Liga is set to be a battle between fierce rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid. We hope you enjoy this spread betting guide for the upcoming season and that it proves to be a useful analysis tool. As always, I look forward to doing battle! Ben Keith, Managing Director
Premier League: how it finished last year Chelsea clinched their third Premier League title on the final day of the season after smashing eight past ten-man Wigan. Manchester United put up a valiant effort in their quest for a 19th title, before Wayne Rooney’s ankle injury derailed their campaign. The battle for fourth was arguably the most interesting contest with Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester City all in the running. It was Harry Redknapp’s Spurs that eventually sealed their place in the Champions League, though. At the other end, Portsmouth’s miserable season ended with relegation and administration.

Premier League 2010/11: Star Spreads points spreads Chelsea will be looking for back-to-back titles and you would have to be brave to oppose them. They have a very strong squad and the only concern might be that they could concentrate primarily on winning the Champions League. Manchester United’s squad doesn’t look as strong, but they will be desperate for another league title and the Red Devils can never be written off. It could be a titanic battle for fourth spot with Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton all chasing. At the other end Newcastle, West Brom and Blackpool will be hoping to avoid a quick return to the Championship, while it could be difficult for second-season teams like Wolves and Birmingham.

Blackpool Blackpool surprised the country when they won promotion to the Premier League via the treacherous play-offs. Ian Holloway must be commended for his efforts but the real test starts in August. Results at Bloomfield Road will be pivotal to their chances and they will be thrilled if they manage to stay up.

Championship: how it finished last year Newcastle and West Brom deservedly earned their leap up to the top flight in May, but the big story was Ian Holloway’s Blackpool sneaking in via the back door. A final-day decider at the other end of the table saw the blue half of Sheffield suffer while Palace fans found a rare moment to celebrate.

Nottingham Forest Recent times have not been so kind to Forest, but after a few seasons languishing in League One they look genuinely ready for the Premiership. They only won four games on their travels last term, so will have to improve their away form if they’re going to win automatic promotion.

If players such as Jobi McAnuff and Gylfi Sigurdsson can continue playing like they did after Christmas, promotion is a realistic target.

La Liga: how it finished last year A thrilling campaign saw the major issues remain undetermined until the climax in La Liga. Barcelona were fought all the way by a Real Madrid side that finished second with an incredible 96 points, but crossed the line first by beating Valladolid 4-0 on the final day to claim a second successive title, relegating their opponents in the process. Sevilla couldn’t have left it any later to secure a Champions League place – their victory over Almeria came thanks to a second-half stoppage time strike and broke Mallorcan hearts in the process.

Atletico Madrid The 2009/10 campaign was a strange one for Real’s city rivals. They finished ninth in La Liga and lost to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final, but managed to lift the Europa League trophy despite only winning three games in Europe all season.Keeping on to Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero will be vital.

Who’s Not
Valencia This could be a difficult season for Spain’s third most successful club. They have big money problems and although they are playing Champions League football, they will have to do so without the two Davids – Villa and Silva. They have also sold Nikola Zigic and the trio scored 34 of 59 La Liga goals last season.

Mallorca Missed out on the Champions League but still finished higher than expected in fifth. Excellent at home, but their away form lets them down and that could be their trouble this season.Michael Laudrup takes over as the new manager and he will have a big task on his hands.

Malaga Only just managed to stay in La Liga last season and won’t be easy to hold on to their top-flight status. Discipline seems to be an issue with them as they had ten red cards and an average of over three yellow cards per game.It looks like it will be a long, hard season for the seasiders.

Levante Levante only just managed to get into La Liga and their sole aim will be to stay in the top flight. They finished bottom the last time they were here and they will be seen as the whipping boys by the rest of the league.
