ABOUT OUR COURSE Ranked as one of Buckinghamshire’s favourite courses, Chiltern Forest is definitely worth a visit. Although the course is only 5,760 yards long off the white tees, don’t be fooled! It plays every yard of that due to the hilly nature of the course. Try reaching the par 4 9th in two shots; your approach shot to the 16th green is all uphill, so you will need to carry it the whole way. Don’t think that you can merely take a driver and a short iron to the greens of our par 4s; if you are off-line then the chances are you will playing your second shot sideways out of the trees. An enjoyable and challenging par 70, this is a true test of golf for players of all abilities, with stunning scenery to match.
Our greenkeeping staff work hard to present a course that is in excellent condition throughout the year. We challenge you to find a better “year round” golf course in the area, as we are extremely fortunate to have a chalkbase soil that drains superbly in the wetter months, but retains moisture in the drier ones. The club’s commitment to continually improving the course is shown by our investment in the latest greenkeeping equipment and methods, and the continued improvement to our layout by our rolling development programme. Never satisfied with being outstanding, it is the never-ending pursuit of perfection that drives us and makes us the club of choice for the discerning golfer. We are sure that once you have experienced Chiltern Forest Golf Club you will agree that it is indeed a “Jewel in the Chilterns” and will be back to play it again and again.

PRACTICE FACILITIES Excellent instruction is nothing without the facilities to put those newly-learnt skills into action, working on them until they become second nature. Here, again, Chiltern Forest scores highly for the conscientious golfer looking to maximise their potential and lower their handicap to become the best they can possibly be. The club’s practice facilities are open to members and those taking lessons at the club. There is a pitching green of around 130 yards close to the second tee where members can take their own balls and work on their wedge game.
The green next to the car park beside the first tee is available for practising short chip shots. It also has a practice bunker, perfect for those who wish to incorporate the words “sand save” into their golfing vocabulary. There is an excellent putting green located right outside the Pro Shop which is perfect for familiarising yourself with the speed of the greens so you don’t have to worry about those costly three-putts during your round. For those who find time is at a premium, there are two practice net close to the chipping green, affording the opportunity to warm up before beginning a round.

THE SPIRIT OF COMPETITION The ability to test one’s prowess in the sporting arena against one’s peers is for many one of the principal reasons in joining a club. Chiltern Forest fully satisfies on that score (as it does in many other facets) by providing numerous competitions throughout the year. Play against other clubs, play against friends, play for silverware, play for fun, the opportunities are boundless. Play as much as you choose and learn about your golf game (and your character!) in pressure situations. Here is a taste of what is on offer to members: Men • Monthly Medals: Every month there is at least one qualifying competition; Stableford format in the winter months, November to March - strokeplay format April to October.
32 | www.chilternforest.co.uk
• Majors: These are seasonal pairs competitions, e.g. Spring or Summer Prize and Clubhouse Trophy. They are played using different formats, such as foursomes, greensomes and sometimes better-ball Stableford. • Knockout Match Play: There are several summer singles knockout competitions for different categories of handicap. From October to April there is a Winter League pairs knockout. • Club Matches: A chance to play against other clubs in the area, both home and away. • Non-Diary Competitions: If you fancy a less formal game, there are various morning “swindle” groups. The most popular is the one on Saturday (and Sunday) mornings. A great chance to meet others and cards are drawn to ensure a good mix.
• Seniors: Over 55s meet every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Once a month they run a medal for handicap purposes. All are welcome, regardless of age. Ladies • Monthly Medals/Stablefords: Ladies have LGU medal (strokeplay) and Stableford competitions throughout the year. They take place on Mondays and Saturdays. • Ladies Majors: Autumn meetings are held on Saturdays. Other competitions include Foursomes competitions, a 27-hole Rosebowl Competition, an Irons competition, some of which are held on Saturdays, some on Mondays. • Club Matches: Friendly club matches against many other local clubs,
both home and away. Also the ladies take part in a Chiltern Ladies Greensomes league. Mixed • Mixed Matches: During the year there are about eight or ten matches with other clubs in the area. • Mixed Monthly Greensomes: Held on the last Thursday of each month. • Friday Night Greensomes/Nine and Dine: This is a fun 9-hole event played throughout the summer with food afterwards. • Spring and Autumn Mixed Greensomes: Played on Friday evenings. • Mixed Greensomes Knockout: A matchplay competition that runs throughout the summer.

• Once this has been done the operation will start. This involves making two small (6mm long) incisions through the skin and muscle, where the camera scope and instruments are inserted. There will also be two small puncture wounds where a special tool is used to keep the ovary in place during the operation. A vet and nurse will be present throughout the anaesthetic.

• The incisions will be stitched up after the ovaries have been removed. • When the operation is finished your dog will be kept on oxygen without anaesthetic, until they wake up. • We will send your dog home with some pain relief, to keep them comfortable. • You will be asked to bring your dog back approximately 3 days and 10 days after the operation. At the first check we will make sure your dog is recovering well and has no problems. The second check is when the stitches are usually removed.

BAR AND CATERING The modern Chiltern Forest clubhouse is situated in one of the most picturesque parts of the Chiltern Hills. Its location offers unrivalled views across Aylesbury Vale towards Mentmore and Leighton Buzzard – and its outdoor terrace looks out over the tough 17th and 18th finishing holes. The clubhouse has been extended in recent years and now offers a large lounge and dining area, spike bar, locker rooms, pro shop and the main office. The clubhouse bar and catering is run by Paul and Claire Phillips, who have received glowing reviews since joining the club in June 2012. The couple have successfully run the Greyhound pub in Wigginton for a number of years and pride themselves on offering a warm and courteous welcome to members and visitors alike.
The bar is well stocked with a wide range of draught and bottled beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks. Real ale fans will be delighted to find their needs well catered for, with three ales on tap, two of them from the local Tring Brewery. A bar menu is available with a huge choice of freshly made sandwiches, baps and baguettes as well as bar meals, omelettes and burgers. Sunday lunches are available on advertised dates throughout the year, however if you would like a lunch for a party of 12 or more, please contact us. The bar is open from 11am every day and the kitchen from 10am daily. Closing times vary according to the time of year so please check on the noticeboards in the lounge.
