ENJOYING THE RIDE At 77-years-old, Lynn Loebner from Tulsa, OK decided that it was finally time to step into the ring for herself. “I’ve spent the last few years watching my friends Nikki and Keith show my horse, Dolly, that I had been given four-years-ago,” said Loebner. “But I had watched as much as I could take already.” So this past spring, Loebner decided to enter herself and OH WHAT A DOLL (Dolly) into her first horse show. But unlike most first time exhibitors, she skipped all the county fairs and local shows and came straight here, to the Pinto World Championship® show to make her debut. “My friends thought, ‘Oh my gosh is she crazy?’ and ‘She’s doing what?’” exclaimed Loebner. But she wasn’t going to let her friends thoughts of doubt stop her. “I wasn’t really scared of horses but I didn’t quite know how to handle them correctly, so it did make me nervous,” said Loebner. “At first the hardest part was tracking. I was scared to be walking right next to this 1300 pound animal as it trotted, so it took some time to build the trust that she wouldn’t hurt me.”
While Dolly can be a bit of a “brat,” Loebner said that her first experience was “so much fun” and “awesomely amazing.” She won a World Champion Title and Buckle in the Amateur Aged Mares class. So she left us some advice for others that want to get started later in life showing horses like her. “Just enjoy the ride, even if you are just walking” said Loebner. Loebner is planning on showing at the Color Breed Congress show this fall, and a Buckskin show later this year. Thanks for being an inspiration to all of us Lynn!
