Manufacturers and retailers are increasingly moving into services. This offers new opportunities for growth and profit, but also presents interesting challenges. To explore exactly what is involved in the transition from being product-oriented to being service-oriented, Cisco Systems and the Center for Digital Strategies at Dartmouth’ s Tuck School of Business recently convened the third in a series of thought leadership summits. Drawing on their understanding of information technology and their expertise in services, the group was able to pool their insights and experiences to produce a roadmap for expanding into services.
