Post 16 Consultation Event – SMBC What is it? We are hoping to have a consultation event with young people who have additional needs to focus on post 16 options and opportunities. The plan is to hold a focus group with representation from a group of young people aged 14-19 to help us identify the options and opportunities that need to be created for young people when they reach the post 16 ages. What do we want to know? • If you’re on the upper age of the selected age range, then we would like to hear about your experience of post 16 options and opportunities up to age 18/19. What was positive and what was missing for you? What was the impact on their post 16 experience been on their transition to life as an adult? • If you’re in the post 16 age ranges now (16-19), then we’d like to know how it’s going. What’s working well? What could be improved? Are the choices out there to support you to help you gain the skills for life as an adult and support you in achieving your aspirations? • If you’re entering the world of post 16 (14-16), then we’d like to know how you’re feeling about the options and opportunities for you? Do you feel that they will support you to do the things you’d like to do when you’re grown up? When is it? • A one off ‘Let Loose’ session will be available at Pepper House on Tuesday 16th April, from 6 – 8pm. The focus group will be held from 7-8pm with 10-15 young people who are selected to give a mixed representation of age, gender, additional need/disability. • They will be able to use the play areas from 6pm What will we do with the information gathered? • The information gathered from this focus group will be taken to a task group in the Council. This group are committed to improving the choices young people with additional needs have at Post 16 to support them in achieving their aspirations as a young adult and beyond, they just need to know what is working well, what isn’t working well in order to know what needs to be developed! Please inbox or email sherann.hillman@pipstockport.org if you and your son/daughter would like to be involved in the consultation.
