Editorial Welcome to the latest HUGE edition of Aus-
tralian Highline Magazine.
In this issue we are pleased to showcase a new association with one of New Zealand’s finest speedway photographers – James Selwyn. James’ work is well known and highly respected across the ditch and now Highline brings our Australian readers the chance to view some of James’ exceptional work and stuff we don’t get to see too easily over here. In this issue we’ve combined with James to cover the Sydney City 50 lap speedcar (midget) festival which delivered over a dozen top rated Kiwi’s and Americans taking on Australia’s best over 50 fast and enthralling laps. It’s been a long time since a midget field of this size and calibre was assembled at one place in Australia. The 50 Lap Speedcar event was the first of what is hoped to be an annual event between Australia and New Zealand’s best with a few Americans thrown in as well. A big thanks go to New Zealand’s Brett Morris for being pivotal in funding, assembling and supplying a stunning field of 14 Kiwis and their cars who took on a pair of Yanks and a bunch of Aussies in a patriotic stoush of epic proportions. The only downside to the event was the two big wrecks involving Reid Mackay and Rea4

Mauger was arguably the best Solo rider the world has ever seen with such a fierce determination and was held in such high regard by all of his rivals in what was at the time, such a dangerous sport. Highline extends its condolences to all of Ivan’s family and friends.

Highline wishes Reid a full recovery and despite the severity of the accident Reid is already talking about a return to racing sometime in the future.
Also in this issue you’ll find some pictorial coverage of the annual Easter Sprintcar Trail where one man, James McFadden, was poised to take a clean sweep of all rounds before a bone jarring wreck caused by a component failure ruined his hopes of taking the bonus money.
