MC, Glen Lawless, who stood in for Scoop at short notice, joined SDAV President Phil Jenkins on stage for the announcements, as follows; Allen Luckett was crowned Club Champion, followed by Shannon Meakins and Dean West. Allen Luckett also took out the Thunder Down under series ahead of Kali Hovey and Dean West. Best Presented Car was awarded to Dean West. Most Improved Driver was awarded to Shannon Meakins. Dylan Lineham was awarded the Encouragement Award. Jason Kavanagh von the Legends Cup, Victorian Title and Ray Welsh Memorial. Kali Hovey received the Club Person Award. SDAV HOT RODS Geelong's Gateway International Hotel hosted the 2013 SDAV Presentation Dinner on Saturday 18th May. A full house packed the venue to witness the crowning of the Club Champion and presentation of other awards.
Major changes are being undertaken at the venue prior to the 2013/4 season. A new machinery shed is being erected in the pit area to accommodate a range of activities including scrutineering and presentation functions. For the latest news regarding redline 4

With so many motorsport sanctioning bodies in Australia and New Zealand currently requiring the use of head and neck restraint devices certified to SFI Specification 38.1, and with more likely to follow suit in the future, HANS Performance Products is in the process of training and appointing agents in those countries to perform the necessary periodic inspections and recertifications. Tim who has won numerous AMCA state championships will be set to take on a different challenge in wingless sprints given the requirement for a change in driving style and car set ups. I’m sure it won’t take long before we see Tim up the front in the wingless sprints.
Chris Overall. Well known speedway identity, Chris Overall is to remain the Vic State Coordinator for the AMCA Nationals Group… Chris advises that there are some new drivers joining up to participate this coming season which will grow the cars numbers. Most drivers prefer a lesser number of events this season to cut down on travelling costs.
TIM REIDY AMCA star Tim Reidy having purchased a wingless sprintcar from Mick Cunningham, plans to compete in both AMCA’a and wingless sprints events in the coming season.

Ron Jones. Rumor has it, that well known Sprintcar team owner Ron Jones is selling up his Sprintcar and possibly moving to SDAV Hot Rods for a year or so. Belmont Speedway Drivers Club. Elections of Office bearers for the coming season were held in Geelong in June. The President, Mick Purdie, stated that the past season has been hugely success-

BOB HICKSON OPEN SEDAN MEMORIAL WON BY SIMON BENT Nyora Raceway closed off the Victorian 2012/2013 Speedway season at the end of June with the annual Bob Hickson Memorial (Southern 2000) for Open Sedans and it was local gun Simon Bent who went on to take a win after an enthralling battle with former National Production Sedan champion Stephen Laidlaw that lasted 40 of the 50 laps with both drivers swapping the lead four to five times. Young Gun Matt Nelson eventually took second with his uncle Darren in third.

Heat 1a began with Nyora Club member Brendan Miles on the front row with Alan Ward from the Division 2 Hot Rod’s. With Dale Morrison a former Standard Saloon state champion on the next row, current Open Sedan State Champion Nyora’s Ray Gould & Bent in the field it was going to be a tough stoush for the front two to hold on. However, against expectations Ward beat Bent, Wayne Alberni, Morrison and Trent Kirsch. In the next heat Dale Hallett & James Robinson began at the front of the field with Hallet one of a number of Marsh Modified drivers who had to swap the suspension and set up on their cars around to run anti clockwise rather than their normal clockwise. Darren Nelson was on the second row and is a consistent performer in endurance events. Laidlaw and Stuart Robinson (brother of James) were other
SIMON BENT strong runners in the heat. Nelson took the win ahead of Daniel Angus who was fantastic on a track yet to come to the drivers followed by Laidlaw, Darren O’Brien & James Robinson. To close out the first round of heats Andrew Suckling & Mick Lovell began at the front of the third heat with Damien Miller, David Barrie, Matt Nelson & Nyora hard charger Mick Evans all strong runners behind them. From eleventh place Nelson marched to a win ahead of Miller, Barrie, Evans and Dylan Campton. 8
Great racing by Damien Miller #56 (inside) and Matt Nelson #61 (outside) The first heat in round two had a plumb pole position for Bent with Templeton another former state champion in Standard Saloons alongside. Shane Stewart, Jamie Paull, Alberni, Gould and Morrison made this heat very tough indeed with Bent taking a win ahead of his mate Alberni, Morrison, Templeton & Aaron Price a local Nyora racer. Eric Miles and Scott Randall began the fifth heat of the day at the front of the field. It would be tenth place starter Laidlaw who would come through the field to take a win ahead of Robinson, Darren Nelson, Daniel Angus and Miles. Finally the last heat closed out the qualification period with Ross Ritchie and Evans at the front of the field and Matt Nelson, Miller & Barrie behind them. Nelson made it two wins from two starts when he snared the result over Miller, Evans, Barrie & Leigh Gooding.
A last chance B Main produced mayhem as it always does when only four cars move on into the big race with David Bent jumping into his Cortina that Ross Ritchie had been driving and getting into a big accident that tore one side of his car apart and wrecked the tires. Then after Miles muffed an opportunity to bank one of those positions it was Des Birkin, Paul McCoubrie, Templeton & Robert Tatterson who progressed into the main show in that order. Automatic qualifiers were Matt Nelson, Bent, Darren Nelson, Laidlaw, Miller, Alberni, Daniel Angus, Alan Ward, Evans, Barrie, Stuart Robinson, Morrison, Price, James Robinson, Gooding then Paull and the B main qualifiers. Simon Bent was almost not going to start the race despite the $1000 being up for the win. His daughter Shona had been in 9
a Junior Sedan accident prior to the final complaining of pain requiring an ambulance to attend the venue and take her to hospital. Mum went to the hospital with Shona and told Simon to stay and win the race and that’s exactly what he did. On lap one of the first attempted race start, a backmarkers stack that included Evans, Angus & Ward left a trail of cars heading to the infield to watch the big race.
Second Place: #61 Matt Nelson
In the early parts of the race Bent was leading Laidlaw, Matt Nelson, Miller and Darren Nelson with the lead two cars soon catching up to the tail of the pack. As they started to work over the traffic Laidlaw got the better of Bent to have a turn at the front of the field. The lead returned to Bent, back to Laidlaw and then to Bent again over the first 40 laps before Laidlaw whilst trying to keep with Bent made a pole line pass attempt on a slower car and spun himself around. Whilst the car did have broken components in the rear suspension, Laidlaw after the event admitted he buggered up and could probably have made it to the end of the race if he hadn’t have come to a stop at that point.
Bent a local hero at Nyora who assists in raising much needed raffle funds by taking passengers out in his race car took a popular win from Matt Nelson, Darren Nelson, Templeton, Alberni, Gooding, James Robinson, McCoubrie & Tatterson the only drivers to finish from twenty starters. His mother and father, his mates, his brother and his son Seth were all there to watch his win which he dedicated later to Shona and the late Bob Hickson a much loved Nyora club person. “I have to thank my wife who told me to stay here and go racing whilst she went with Shona. I have to thank Nyora Raceway, the volunteers here and track preparation team along with my friends and family for coming along. It is awesome to win a club legends memorial event and Bob was definitely that. This win is for Shona and thank you all for your concerns for her, it sounds like she is going to be ok.”

BIG SEASON COMING FOR VICTORIAN WINGLESS SPRINTS PARR MOTORSPORT SERIES With the opening of the Victorian Speedway season approaching fast, the new Victorian Wingless Sprints committee has been hard at work preparing for yet another super season with some forty plus race dates on their own state calendar which includes the now eight round ‘Parr Motorsport Victorian Series’ as a major highlight of the season for the fifth consecutive season. With car numbers continuing to grow across Victoria, season 2013/2014 will see Victorian Wingless Sprints expand their state wide series to eight rounds instead of six. The prestigious series will be spread out across the season and the state, with the season finale at the high banks of ‘Sungold Stadium’ Warrnambool. Dates for the series have been locked in beginning at Avalon Raceway on November 9th where it is expected that the field could hit the forty car mark for night one. Mount Gambier’s ‘Borderline Raceway’ follows up as round two a week later before a three week break before round three on December 7th at ‘Southern 500 Speedway’ down in Portland.
The drivers then head to Gippsland just after Christmas for a double header with Bairnsdale Speedway & Rosedale Speedway taking in round four and five on the 27th & 28th of December. Racing continues at Horsham’s ‘Blue Ribbon Raceway’ on February the 1st, ‘Heartland Raceway’ Moama on March the 1st and closes out with the finale at ‘Sungold Stadium’ Warrnambool on April the 5th. With Parr Motorsport committed to providing a $250 voucher to the winner of each round boosted by the same value in cash supplied by the club making each round a $500 win, the racing is sure to be hard, fast and thrilling for the fans. Parr Motorsport also supports each round with two racer packs each round and of course the complete front end to the series champion valued at $1250- at the conclusion of the series. Another highlight as James Wren headed to series victory was the competition provided by South Australian, Northern Territory & New South Wales registered competitors in rounds.

BIG SHOW AND LITTLE BEAR WIN 3 HOUR ENDURO AT ALEXANDRA Alexandra Speedway warmed up die hard Speedway fans on the 17th of August with almost forty teams entered in the third annual 3 Hour Enduro with Lenny Bates Jnr and Alexandra Club member Damien Miller taking victory in a popular win ahead of club great Robbie Gorman and his team mate Matty Magor and the sister team to the winners of Brendan Miller and Timmy Cole making up the top three.

Before the big race drivers had a heat each to get their team qualifying points to determine their feature race starting position and the Bates/Miller team started the event strongly with Bates converting a front row start into a one second win ahead of Paul Turnbull, David Donegan, Dylan Campton & Dave Mackenzie. Colin Lincoln the father of a father/son combination with Corey Lincoln then won the second heat from a long way back moving from eighth position to the win by six and a half seconds. Greg Scott, Matt Ridd, Tim McPherson & Rod Henskens made up the top five. Defending champion Matt Nelson started in mid pack and finished strongly to 16

taken out by Scott Ellis with the biggest heat race win margin of 7.495 seconds ahead of Dehne Sparrow a former winner chasing and Hans Lovski, Brett Petrou & Andrew Jordan closing out the top five. With the heats out of the way thirty four teams were ready to take the start line for the Enduro. The teams have one team member on the track at all times and the team mate cannot come onto the track until a key ring is exchanged with their team mate under the watchful eye of an official.

New Season Dawns for Victorian AMCAs. A host of new faces and some older familiar ones returning to the fold has the Victorian AMCA Nationals fraternity eagerly looking forward to what promises to be one of the best seasons ever in the upcoming 2013/2014 season which is less than two weeks away. The new season will feature 12 series rounds, a VIC v NSW State of Origin Challenge, the first ever 20/20 event and of course the prestigious Victorian Championship. Loveable Hans Lovski finally has his new car built, and will be joined by Chris Bradley both in new Panther chassis. Heath Bunting is also expected back amongst the runners.

Former AMCA Australia #2 and Sprintcar racer Chris Campbell is a high profile returnee and after a couple of years away is refreshed and reinvigorated for another crack at the states’ best. Brett “the mad Russian” Petrou and Cameron Barrie have both swapped their sedans for AMCA’s and will be joined by Ben Rudd, brothers Matt and James Mills and Mother and son combo Robyn and Tristan James who will all fight it out for the Panther Chassis Rookie of the Year trophy. The main battle however, is expected to continue on between last season’s standout young guns Tim Reidy and Jamie Collins. Between them they won the majority of the local events and state titles including the NT, Qld and SA titles for Reidy and the TAS and VIC titles for Collins. And of course the most important title of all also went to a Victorian with Mark Lincoln taking crown number 2.

Reidy is already off and running having recently taken the NT title once again for the third straight year. As an aside Reidy will also spend some time in the wingless sprint ranks although the AMCAs remain the teams’ main priority.

Another key event to look forward to is the M & S Stainless Steel 20/20 event scheduled for Rushworth on 1st February 2014. Teams will consist of two drivers with the second driver being someone who did not compete in the AMCA ranks last season. Each driver will get a heat race and a 20 lap feature with the first feature determining the line-up for the second feature. Which driver will do which heat and feature will have to be determined at the time of nomination so that there will be no manipulation as to trying to have the regular driver racing against the ring-ins and so on. This should be a cracker of an event. So with all that and too much more to mention, the season looks to be a hugely exciting one that kicks off at Rushworth on October 26 and concludes nearly seven months later in mid-May at Dubbo. MAX DUMESNY MOTORSPORTS BACKS WINGLESS VICTORIA AGGREGATE Things keep getting bigger at the Victorian Wingless Sprints with the exciting news that Max Dumesny Motorsports are back with the coming season aggregate to be known as the ‘Max Dumesny Motorsports VWS Aggregate’. The VWS committee are extremely pleased to announce the return of Max Dumesny Motorsports as the major sponsor for the VWS Club aggregate. President Mick Parry shared the sentiment. “We are pleased to have built up a strong association with our supporters in the past and this year we are trying some new promotion ideas to give supporters even more bang for their buck. In return MD Motorsports are supplying a fantastic set of MaxWheels for the aggregate awards, rear wheels to the overall winner and front wheels to the overall second place.” This season with a revised format the aggregate
point’s winner will have thirty seven race meetings in which to accumulate points in order to win the aggregate and with that many events on the calendar the winning driver would have truly represented the division right across the state and into our South Australian & New South Wales tracks to come out on top. For Drivers to accumulate aggregate points they must be a financial member of Victorian Wingless Sprints as well as a registered driver in Victoria & must also have the MD Motorsports sticker placed on the RH armguard or RH side panel above the RR wheel at all events. All race meetings are eligible to be a points event towards the aggregate except for any race meeting on a double header weekend (e.g. two venues running the same night), as long as 14 cars nominate
by cut off time and the same amount turn up to race. To influence drivers to travel competing points will be paid for anybody outside the top five places on the night. VWS encourages all drivers to ensure you support MD Motorsports for all your Hoosier tyres and of course the sweet looking MaxWheels! You can always find them online, at the shop in Tullamarine or at the track. Members should also keep an eye out for special offers through the season from Max Dumesny Motorsports. Last year’s winner James Wren will be back at it again and he knows things won’t be easy. “It is a different year and a different calendar this season with an even spread around the state of 28
where we will race at. It was tough last season and so many competitors were improving as the season closed and will be keen to be on the pace right from the start this year.
