Structures and gazebos

With the assistance of your Oasi Tartaruga dealer or Tartaruga retailer, you can create your custom-built pergola, gazebo or protective structure by using the semi-finished products and hardware you find starting from page 176 of the catalogue. The dealer will then custombuild the structure you have chosen in the selected colour. Building permit For the construction of certain structures, some municipalities require the possession of a building permit. We suggest that you request the necessary information from the Technical Department of your municipality.

How is a Pircher pergola made? To better understand the prices, it is necessary to know how a shading structure is made.

The basic structure of a pergola consists of three fundamental elements: • vertical posts (A) • beams (B) • purlins (C) The structure can then be completed with decorative or functional elements, such as enclosures, bracings and coverings. In the case of the structures, the prices refer to these framework parts and to the connection hardware. The parts varying from one case to another, like the type of covering, are not included. The floor mounting hardware is provided on the coloured structures.

Custom-built All the structures, pergolas and gazebos can be tailor made down to the centimetre (in the technically possible size range between the minimum and maximum) to fit perfectly into the specific space, whether it is the façade of a house or in the middle of a garden. Readymade structures built with fixed measurements that can be used in all those cases where a customised project is not necessary are also available . Whether you choose a customised solution, opt for a construction with fixed measurements or you compose structure together yourself, some technical information needed for their execution is provided below. In any case, we suggest that you contact a qualified technician to get a structural analysis. To create a customised project, ask the Oasi Tartaruga dealer nearest to your home for assistance. Anchorage Pergolas, gazebos and protective structures must be anchored to the ground. There is a variety of possible anchoring systems in galvanised steel or stainless steel. The type of hardware should be defined according to the configuration of the land, on a case by case basis.

For this reason the hardware must be chosen separately, with the help of the "Oasi Tartaruga" dealer or a retailer. For the coloured structures, we have already selected stainless steel anchorage for you.

Note For the wall-mounted pergolas (supplied only custom-built), anchoring brackets and bolts are required to secure the beams to the wall. The dowels and screws for fixing the brackets to the wall must be chosen according to the configuration of the wall and to the specific situation, so they are not included in the assembly kit.

Structures in assembly kits Some pergola, gazebo and structure models, even custom-built, are provided in an assembly kit. The kit includes all the basic elements, which are: for the pergolas: posts, beams, purlins, connection hardware for the gazebos: posts, roof framework, connection hardware Some kit structures may also include the anchorages (fixing screws excluded); more information is found on the technical data sheets of the single structures.

Enclosures and accessories It is good practice to brace the structures, even when they are small. Therefore, it is recommended to insert enclosures (see page 46) and accessories to complete them. In particular, it is recommended to brace gazebos and free-standing pergolas. Coverings All structures can be completed with a covering, to be chosen according to the needs and its capacity (see the solutions proposed starting from page 45). W3 manual vertical awning W3 characteristics: • Vertical awning with manual or motorised (optional) movement. • The transparent part of the awning is in Cristal, while its top and bottom are in white PVC. • The Cristal used is stabilised with a thermal process that limits dimensional alterations of the fabric, but since Cristal is a material that changes structurally due to normal weathering (hot and cold) in a natural manner, wrinkles and creases are not to be considered defects of the fabric. • The awning is wound up manually using an anodised aluminium rod with white plastic handle. The motor-driven awning is instead wound up by radio control. • The remote control is not included in the awning kit and is chosen according to your requirements (page 43).

DETAILS • The Soliris RTS sensor is a sun/wind automatism with built-in radio transmitter able to control one or more motor-driven protections with RTS technology depending on the intensity of solar radiation and wind speed with LED display of the sun and wind status, moment by moment. • No wiring between the sensor and motors. The signals are transmitted via radio only. • The Soliris RTS sensor is supplied with a 5-m power cable, RRF type, in black sheath, resistant to UV rays. • Use of a transmitter with Soliris function to enable or disable the Sun function from the motor or from the RTS receiver is recommended.

The widest collection in Italy Pircher Tartaruga has the widest range of enclosures and fencing in impregnated wood for outdoor use in Italy. An offer of more than 130 coloured and impregnated models, different in shape, size and colour. All you have to do is choose which of the various proposals is best suited to your needs.

Interlocking joint with stainless steel screw

Tartaruga enclosures There are many coloured enclosure models, with modern or traditional style. They can complete pergolas and gazebos, or can also be used as fencing, a support for climbing plants or simple boundaries.

The screws used for assembling the enclosures are made of stainless steel. To ensure a better product, the screws are tightened only, not riveted.

Enclosure fastening There is a specific plate kit for fastening invisible enclosures to the post. This kit is formed by 4 plates with bushes and screws. All the enclosures already have specific holes on the sides for plate fastening.

Things to know Here are a few hints for completing your elevated garden bed. First, level the ground where you plan to place the garden. Apply a layer of gravel along the entire perimeter of the walls so water flows out correctly. As an alternative, it can be placed on top of bricks. Lay the galvanised wire net with hexagonal mesh on the bottom to prevent the unpleasant intrusion of insects and rodents.

Now start to fill the elevated garden bed with the various layers of about 25-40 cm. The first layer consists of twigs and small pruning. This layer guarantees ventilation from below the gardening waste and in this way ensures regular disintegration. To prevent the finer material placed on top from being able to filter into the layer below, it is advisable to lay a layer of green turf turned with the roots pointing upwards.

The second layer consists of gardening waste, chipboard and leaves. The last layer is then made up of soil. An excellent base for planting all types of vegetables, salad, herbs and even flowers.

Pine

Pircher has for years been offering European Scots pine with PEFC (Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) certification, impregnated in an autoclave with the typical greengolden colour. The protective treatment is performed in accordance with the EN regulations, with impregnation class 3 that certifies that the product is also suitable for direct contact with the ground. Characteristics Impregnated pine is an excellent flooring material and does not require any special care.

Since it is a conifer, pine does not have a uniform grain pattern and is characterised by a moderate presence of knobs, which give this material a unique warmth. The resin may leak from the planks and both raising of fibre and separation of knobs are considered normal. It is precisely for these reasons that pine should never be painted and its use as swimming pool edges or decking where walking barefoot is not recommended. It is obviously important to maintain adequate distance between the different planks when laying, taking into account that if at the time of laying the material should be wet, the planks will decrease the width by about 7%, and will increase to the same extent if the material were to be very dry.

ASSEMBLY AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Material characteristics: Things to know Wood is a natural material susceptible to dimensional, surface (cracks) and colour variations. These are precisely the differences that make it a unique material with characteristics that provide a special and timeless allure. Therefore, it is right to be familiar with some of its peculiarities, both at the time of selection and when laying: Tolerances and dimensional stability: Unlike other materials, wooden products have significant dimensional tolerances, especially in the exotic species: +/-1-2 mm in thickness and width, +/-3-4 mm in length. These tolerances are inevitable and are therefore to be accepted. In addition, wood - especially if placed outside - undergoes dimensional changes (even higher than +/- 8% in width) that have to be evaluated at the time of design and laying. These variations are due to changes in ambient humidity, the absorption and release of humidity typical of the wood, as well as the characteristics of the individual wood species. Therefore, it is essential that the flooring be laid in a workmanlike manner, in order to accommodate the natural movements of the wood. Cracking: Precisely because of its hygroscopic properties, when wood is very dry it creates drying cracks, which tend to disappear in a humid climate but that reappear once again when the climate turns dry.

Laying: The type of fastening and distance to be kept between the planks should be evaluated case by case by the layer, who will have determined the type of work to be done and have assessed the relative humidity of the wood.

Leakage of natural material due to washout: Almost all hardwoods release natural materials when wet (generally tannin). Over time, this "bleeding" reduces, almost to the point of disappearing. These natural materials, however, can stain the surfaces with which they come into contact. This should be taken into account when laying in order to avoid damaging the beauty of the surfaces.

Colour: Practically all wood species initially have shades of colour very different from one plank to the next, often even on the same board. These colour differences blend together when the wood remains exposed to atmospheric agents, oxidizing and becoming grey, for several months.

Maintenance: to maintain the original colour, adequate maintenance should be performed at least 1-2 times a year (washing, sanding, oiling or painting see page 180).

Leakage of resin: Softwoods contain resin that, with heat, thins and leaks out of the wood. Once dried, pine can have increases in fibre and detachments of knobs. This is why use of pine for flooring is recommended against in places where people walk barefoot.

General information on laying outdoor flooring: It is important to follow some simple though fundamental precautions for proper installation. In any case it is recommended that the design and construction of the substructure be performed in a workmanlike manner by qualified personnel. Storage and stabilisation: The material should be kept where it will be installed for a certain period (at least one or two weeks). In fact, the wood needs on-site stabilisation before being positioned and assembled. Therefore, both the non-slip boards and the substructure laths (joists) are to be stabilised on site before installation by storing them in a dry and ventilated area, away from the atmospheric agents and still packed (tied). Warning: as soon as they are unpacked, the non-slip boards or pre-finished panels are to be installed immediately. If the material remains unpacked and untied under the sun, wind and rain, it will definitely have movements that can longer be corrected!

Water discharge: Always prepare a slight tilt to the flooring and lay the substructure so that the water can easily flow out from below. Therefore, make sure that the water discharge is not hampered by the substructure or other materials. In these cases the use of rubber granulate spacers or feet is recommended. Drainage: Substructure and floor must be laid on a material that allows water to drain. Airing: An "air" distance should be provided between all flooring elements (boards, substructure and foundation). Between the plank and plank, in breadth, the distance ranges between 4 and 8 mm, depending on the width of the boards and the humidity of the materials at the time of laying. The greater the width of the board, the greater in absolute value will be the possible deviation of the materials due to the changes in humidity. The higher the humidity of the wood during laying, the lower the distance between the single boards must be. A suitable distance between two boards must be kept also lengthwise (2-3 mm). Sublathing: Use aluminium or another material that has a durability class equal to or superior to that used

on the decking as a lath of the wooden substructure. Sublathing must be sized to the size of the surface and to the wood species used, as well as to its thickness. The recommended distance between the laths of the substructure varies between 25 and 30 cm, depending on the materials used and the intended use Fastening: We must plan on a secure fastening of both the sublath to the underlying surface and the nonslip boards to the sublath. The fastening recommended for flooring offered by the Pircher Oberland spa company is always a double screw from the top, secured on each sublath (therefore every 25-30 cm). If you do not wish to see the screws, it is advisable to build some small platforms and fasten the non-slip boards from the bottom upwards, and then secure the platforms to the underlying surface. In this way the amount of visible screws will be very low. The fastening screws should always be suitable for outdoor use (steel A4 or higher quality). Almost all woods require pre-drilling. Fastening with clips or other systems: The Pircher Oberland spa company declines all liability for problems that may arise if the layer uses specific fastening clips not listed in this catalogue. Therefore, the responsibility will be of the layer. Wood cracking: To minimise the formation of cracks to the utmost, it is advisable to seal the tops of the boards (in particular for hardwoods) with the special product. 127

Age limits All Pircher Tartaruga structures can be used by children aged between 3 and 14 years, as defined by the EN 1176 standard. In any case, children's play should be constantly supervised, especially in the case of swings, climbing elements and ladders.

Playground equipment for "public use" In this section you will find green symbols with the EN 1176 standard with wording "public use", which indicates the items suitable for installation in public play areas, such as parks and gardens, EN 1176 but that can also be uSo PuBBLICo used privately. Their intended use makes observing special rules uSo PRIVATo and inspection adopting strict controls necessary. The blue "private use" symbol indicates the items that should be used only for private purposes.

Total safety For all Tartaruga public use playground equipment you have the guarantee of total safety with EN 1176 certification by TÜV Product Service of Munich, which establishes strict evaluation criteria for material, machining, assembly and functionality. This series of playground equipment is also insured against damage to third parties. (third party liability insurance).

Registration plate The Pircher plate with year of production, the item number and the age for which they are suitable is applied on playground equipment for public use. A simple and effective internal control tool for the safety of children.

assembly instructions Safety area Observing certain safety measures is essential when installing playground equipment. In fact, every piece of playground equipment requires a surrounding area free from obstruction to avoid any risk of impact. To this end a diagram with information on the safety distances to be observed is shown under each structure.

Suggestions It is advisable to install the playground equipment following a few simple rules: 1. The slide should be oriented towards the east in order to prevent it from overheating during the day. 2. Slide and swing set must not be mounted facing each other in order to avoid possible injury.

3. Regularly clean the slide, removing mainly the rubber tracks left by shoes, to facilitate the descent and prevent the rubbing from generating sparks. 4. In case of high humidity (greater than or equal to 60%), it is advisable to wear cotton clothing or jeans to make going down the slide easer.

The EN 1176:1 standard provides an example of materials suitable for the various requirements (falling height) shown on the table with indication of the layer thickness. Otherwise, other materials with different thicknesses that have been tested according to the HIC of the EN 1177 standard can be used. Material

Well-being and vitality The fitness parcourse comprises free exercises (exercises No. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 17) or exercises to be carried with the help of apparatuses, and is ideal for looking after one's health and physical fitness. It is suitable for the entire family, including children and the elderly. Safety guaranteed Stamped with the "public use" marking, it is guaranteed 15 years and undergoes strict controls to ascertain its safety and reliability. The parcourse apparatuses are made of Swedish pine and are pressure impregnated in an autoclave. They are therefore resistant to atmospheric agents, parasites and moulds, provided that the instructions for installation and the maintenance advice are carefully followed. Physical exercises in 17 steps The path consists of 17 stations, each of which offers exercises that train different parts of the body, thus involving all the muscles. The time required to complete the parcourse and for performing all the exercises indicated is about an hour and a half. To allow everyone to complete the workout according to their own personal fitness, each step has different degrees of difficulty of the exercises. This is why the fitness parcourse proves to be an excellent exercise programme at any age and whatever your workout level may be. How to do it Each station is accompanied by an explanatory sign that illustrates how to perform the exercise with pictures and a short text. The text on the sign is in 4 languages: Italian, English, German and French, or is written in two languages. Even the structure of the signs is made entirely of pressure impregnated Swedish pine. The inner part is made with forex panels. Installation The path should extend for about on kilometre in length and possibly be in a place away from sources of pollution and noise. The best ground for the installation of the equipment is flat, clay or meadow, and absolutely not near mulch.

Pine

It is a conifer marketed on a large scale that is widespread in the Spanish mountains, the Pyrenees and the Alps, from the Carpathian Mountains to Central Europe and to the Caucasus all the way to Russia and western Siberia. Scots pine reaches 40-45 metres in height and a diameter of 0.6 to 0.9 metres. Other Italian trade names for imported wood are: Swedish, Riga, Baltic, Finnish, Arcangelo, Siberian, Polish and Norwegian pines. Appearance The knobby wood has moderately resinous heartwood of a light brown-red colour, distinguished by the lighter sapwood with tones varying from white-cream to yellow, and it has clearly distinct growth rings; the texture varies from fine to coarse.

Characteristics The mature Scots pine weighs about 510 kg/ m³ and it dries well and very quickly with a certain tendency to become stained with blue; the working timber is subject to medium movement and has lower rigidity and resilience and resistance to bending and curvature by steam. It is worked well both by hand and by machine and has good properties of holding nails and screws while gluing may prove difficult due to the resin; it accepts mordants, paints and varnishes well and is susceptible to a good finish. It is subject to the common woodworm, it is not durable and is moderately resistant to the protective treatments, while the sapwood is permeable. Uses Pine is used for building furniture, interior woodwork, lathing work and vehicle bodies, and poles and props for excavations.

Since it is a conifer, pine does not have a uniform grain pattern and is characterised by a moderate presence of knobs that give this material a unique warmth. The resin may leak from the planks and both raising of fibre and separation of knobs are considered normal. It is precisely for these reasons that pine should never be painted and its use as swimming pool edges or decking where walking barefoot is not recommended. It is obviously important to maintain adequate distance between the different planks when laying, taking into account that if at the time of laying the material should be wet, the planks will decrease the width by about 7%, and will increase to the same extent if the material were to be very dry.

HARDWARE A Which anchorage? The type of anchorage to use depends on the ground on which the structure will be installed: 1. Rock, flooring and asphalt do not require any foundation. 2. On loose soil the structure must rest on a concrete foundation of at least cm 60x60x30h, with foundation lean concrete, if necessary (see fig. 1). 3. Much more extensive foundations than those shown in the diagram are essential with sand or soft soil. It is advisable to have the entire structure and anchorage checked by a qualified technician.

Tartaruga Proimprex protects and Tartaruga Imprex gives a touch of colour and originality to your structures. Before applying the products, it is recommended to thoroughly clean the wood surfaces with a brush or wash them with a high-pressure water jet cleaner. Tartaruga Proimprex is a colourless water-based primer that protects the wood deep-down. It can be used to prevent the formation of blue stains, fungi and insects, or as a subsequent treatment of impregnated wood in sectioned points, which are no longer protected by the original impregnation. About 12 square metres of wood can be treated with 1 litre of primer.

A maintenance kit is supplied free along with the purchase of coloured products. It is used to perform minor maintenance that may become necessary during the first warm weather, when the wood will crack for the first time.

THE ART OF IMPREGNATION IN AUTOCLAVE Impregnation in autoclave protects the wood from weather and attacks by fungi and insects to ensure total protection 12 months a year. Impregnated wood withstands the sun, rain and snow, as well as fungi or parasites, and this is why it is the perfect material for furnishing outdoor areas in all seasons. Alongside classical impregnation with salts, Pircher technological research has developed PROTEKT.

STRUKTURA速 After decades of exposure to the weather, the soft part of the surface of conifer wood is consumed, highlighting the structure and grain, thus acquiring a charm that only time can give. The final effect of the STRUKTURA速 finish is unique: there is real bas-relief, as if had been carved by water and wind. All Tartaruga structures are already supplied with the STRUKTURA process.

BENEFITS This process highlights the natural grain of the wood and at the same time the small imperfections such as resin pockets, drying cracks or other are noted less. The painted surfaces are also less sensitive. This is a process that can be requested as an option on different coloured structures of the Tartaruga range. The fence panels of the Garbino, Levante and Grecale lines are already supplied with the STRUKTURA process on the boards.

It is a guarantee of maximum quality, in the full respect of the delicate environmental balances. Tartaruga quality is easily recognisable thanks to the markings that distinguish our products.

THE THREE INDICATORS OF QUALITY Tartaruga quality is always recognised thanks to the three distinguishing marks that highlight all the products and that certify the PROTEKTâ&#x201E;˘ treatment or the treatment with salts according to the DIN 68800 standard.

The marking: is found on the impregnated pine semi-finished products, in solid woods. The serial number: year / month / lot number is printed on laminated and solid wood semi-finished products TARTARUGA marking: find it in solid impregnated pine wood components. WARRANTY CONDITIONS Tartaruga products must be used according to their classes (see page 196), are not to be reprocessed, marked or cut lengthwise, and they cannot be placed close to mulch. Even the foundations for products to be buried must be made according to the standards, with a jet of gravel around the product so that water can drain. Compliance with these conditions allows you to enjoy all the guarantees offered against decay. The warranty does not cover discolouration. It covers only the wooden part of the product. The quality of products is guaranteed 8 years or 15 years Tartaruga depending on the type of treatment, whereas spruce impregnated with PROTEKT stamping parts are guaranteed for 4 years (see page 152).

THE CERTIFICATE OF WARRANTY The certificate of warranty will be delivered at the time of purchase. Keep it together with the receipt and the invoice. You might need it later in the event your Tartaruga product should suffer some damage. The warranty does not include labour and the damage that could result from it, or any changes not agreed to previously.

IMPREGNATION IN AUTOCLAVE with Korasit速 KS The secret of the durability of our wood and of the quality of our Tartaruga products is impregnation in autoclave, an art in which Pircher has been an expert for over 20 years. To meet the new market requirements and the philosophy of respecting and caring for the environment that surrounds us, Pircher has now introduced a new certified impregnation system. Korasit速 KS, to preserve Tartaruga wood in an increasingly eco-friendly manner.

Korasit速 KS is a wood preservative that in addition to being chromium-free, has completely eliminated Boron. It is soluble in water, liquid and fixative, and is composed with a base of highly effective copper and quaternary ammonium salt complexes.

Korasit® KS protects and preserves the wood against fungi (basidiomycetes and decomposition due to mould) and insects (wood ticks (Hylotrupes), woodworms) that would jeopardise its proper use. In addition to being effective against Poria and termites, Korasit® KS resists weathering and is not harmful to plants. SALT discharge Salt discharges in impregnated wood close to knobs and resin leaks. The whitish / greenish colour decreases on its own after a certain amount of time.

Knobs Knobs are a natural characteristic of wood. Healthy and firmly anchored knobs can be numerous, and they are not a quality criterion.

RESIN leaks Some resin may leak in conifer wood. In particular, pine has a high resin content, and leakage is fostered by high temperatures. Resin discharge can be removed manually with care. Leakage occurs mainly in the first year.

Swelling and shrinkage Wood is a natural material and is constantly in contact with the humidity of the surrounding environment. Therefore, wood changes its content of humidity and this means that the wood changes in size ("the wood works"). If the wood is used in a wet environment it swells, and in a dry environment, instead, it shrinks.

Drying cracks, twists When the wood changes dimension due to humidity differences, it does not take place evenly throughout the element. In this case the twists in the wood form, which can manifest themselves in gaps, cracks or distortions. The faster the humidity change in the surrounding wood is (for example if it is brought from outdoors to inside an enclosed heated room), the more twists that are formed. Painting the wood does not prevent its movement. Cracks and twists will still occur any way, revealing the underlying natural colour. Once painted with a light coat of colour, these cracks will be much less visible.

THE SURFACE When an element containing humidity (water, colour) is applied on a planed surface, the wood fibres rise. This creates a slightly rough surface. This natural effect is intentionally left unchecked during colour treatment since it in any case repeats when the wood is subjected to weathering.

Exposure to weather Impregnated wood shows a greenish tinge after the pressure impregnation process. After prolonged exposure to the weather, this green colour changes to a light brown. The colour retention of dyed products requires continuous maintenance.

Grain The wood has an uneven grain, and there is nothing one can do to change it. Wood takes on different colours through its grain, and this means that a piece of wood will never have a uniform colour. 191
