The music Industry is made up of very talented people who create and sell music to the general public.
These people are called 'Musicians', who spend their time writing and performing their music. Along with the musicians, you have record companies and record executives who produce and sell the music. Along with the musicians and record executives, booking agents for booking venues and managers for managing the affairs of the artists are also required to keep the wheels of the music industry running smoothly. The largest music retailer in the world is the online company 'iTunes'. As for the industry itself, the two biggest companies are Universal Music Group & Sony Entertainment.

The whole process usually gets underway when a songwriter decides to write a song or compose a piece of music otherwise known as a 'Composition'. Songs or Compositions are usually owned by the songwriter or composer, however, in certain situations, this can change and the music in question can be transferred to the ownership of others. Once a song is published, the record company usually arranges for the royalties to be collected on behalf of the copyright holder of the song. It does this after it has placed it on various media channels. In order for the song to sound as professional as possible, the record company will supply the artist with a studio and sound engineer.

Talent spotters who work for the record companies are always on the lookout for new artists. When an artist is signed, the record company will pay all the costs associated with getting the record produced and delivered to the general public. The artist will then receive a royalty, this is a percentage of the music that is sold. If the song is a great success, then the royalty payment to the artist will be quite substantial.
Live Show
Record companies usually arrange for music to be delivered to the general public in a variety of different ways. These days, the most popular is the digital download. Companies such as iTunes make this possible.
Along with selling their music online, an artist can also travel the world doing live shows. This requires quite a lot of work from a variety of different people, including promoters, however, in some cases an artist can make more money doing live shows than digital downloads.

They usually employ a manager who will look after most aspects of their career. In return, the manager will receive a percentage of their client's earnings. An accountant will also be employed to look after their tax affairs. Entertainment lawyers are generally called upon when contracts or other business deals need to be looked after. Of Course, the bigger the artist the more people will be employed. In some cases, chefs, personal trainers and hair stylists will all be on the artist's payroll.
