ARTIST SPOTLIGHT FRANK MCFLY

Frank Mcfly is one of the best kept secrets to manifest out of Brownsville, Brooklyn into the music scene. After achieving notoriety from big names such as Hot 97, Hypebeast and MTV, McFly is striving to ensure the entertainment industry knows exactly who he is.

Frank Mcfly in studio recording his upcoming single “Issues”

What was your introduction to hip-hop/rap music ?

drawing. Around 11/12 I started to do photos and create merch.

You know music is the cornerstone to life in most black families. We come together to sing, dance and express ourselves. My uncle owned the local record shop called the “Soul Shack” it’s a legendary store in brooklyn. Also many of my cousins all were independent artist and musicians

Where does your influence come from?

At what age did you begin creating, and in which mediums? I always was a creative person. As a kid, I performed in local talent shows and beauty pageants. I was heavy into art and

34

I am influenced by everything. I thank God that I can pull influences from all things. Where are you from? Have your surroundings shaped you in a creative sense, and in what way(s)? From Brownsville Brooklyn, NY, where I grew up, the people in my neighborhood shaped who I am as a person. Growing up in a low income neighbor you have to learn how to adapt and survive. You have to earn everything because nothing was given.

Do you have anyone that you consider your mentor? How has their help or advice shaped you?

unlearning I had to do because the diet they promote to our culture is not our real diet and not healthy.

No, I don’t have 1 significant mentor and I think that’s what shaped me. I was fortunate to learn and grow from so many different people. I am very well-versed.

If you could take anyone in the world dead or alive on a date, who would it be?

How long have you been making music? I started around 2011 when High School was ending and it became my main source of income around 2016/2017. So your instagram features a lot of health & fitness content as well. Have you always been a fitness fanatic and has that become a big part of yourself as Frank Mcfly? I have always been an active kid. I played every sport. I was always outside bike riding, skating, etc, but I never really worked out. From traveling around to different states and countries I learned about the importance of a healthy diet and working out. It’s so much

I am married so if I can take someone dead or alive on a date it would be my girl. Another choice would be Jay-Z or Drake just to pick their brain on music and business. If you could make a song with anyone in the world dead or alive, who would it be? I would like to collaborate with many I can’t choose but I want to collab with producers or engineers more than the artist. Tell me about the first song you ever wrote. Was it a success or a failure in your opinion? The first song I ever made was with my boy G Milano called “Party, Party, Party”. It went well. I think we released it on Twitter. It did very well and motivated me to keep going.

Frank Mcflys’s latest project “Circa” is out now on Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal. 35
