FOUR SCORE AND 67: The Rangers’ 4-4-0 start included the Blueshirts pushing their streak of consecutive wins when scoring at least four goals to 67, dating back to a 5-2 victory on Oct. 31, 2011 at San Jose. Through eight games in 2014-15 the Rangers had also earned at least a point when scoring at least four goals in 89 consecutive games (88-0-1), dating back to an 8-2 win on Nov. 14, 2010 against Edmonton.

WILD START: Minnesota goaltender Darcy Kuemper went 4-1-0 in his first five decisions, with a 0.81 goalsagainst average, a .966 save percentage and three shutouts. In doing so Kuemper established a career high for zeroes and became the second goaltender since 1967-68 to register three shutouts in the first four games of a season (Pascal Leclaire, Columbus, 2007-08). Kuemper also had a Minnesota-record shutout streak of 163:46.

BROOKS BASHING: Washington defenseman Brooks Orpik’s 10-hit game in a 3-1 win on

Oct. 25 at Calgary was the first for a Capitals player since Troy Brouwer on Jan. 11, 2012 at Pittsburgh, and the first for Orpik since Jan. 10, 2012 against Ottawa. Through seven games Orpik and winger Alex Ovechkin were tied for the most hits among Capitals with 29.

SHORTHANDED SUCCESS: Chicago scored two shorthanded goals in its first 22 shorthanded situations this season, and had multiple short-handed goals before 16 NHL teams had managed one.

DUCK DYNASTY: Anaheim’s 7-1-0 start upped the Ducks record since the start of the 2013-14 season to an NHL-best 61-21-8. The Ducks also had the best home record (33-8-4) and the best road record (28-13-4) of any NHL team dating back to the start of last season.

KING QUICK: Jonathan Quick’s 2-0 shutout of Buffalo on Oct. 23 moved him past Rogie Vachon and into sole possession of first place in Los Angeles history in that department with 33.

CHRISTIAN EHRHOFF Q&A Christian Ehrhoff became arguably the most sought-after defenseman on the market when he and the Buffalo Sabres parted ways on June 29 after three seasons together. And just a few short minutes after free agency began on July 1, Ehrhoff went off the market when the Penguins signed him to a one-year, $4 million contract. Ehrhoff is a top-four, big-minute offensive blueliner who led the Penguins in ice time during the preseason by averaging 24:21 minutes played in four games. The German native has spent a lot of time on a pairing with Paul Martin, who’s always liked Ehrhoff’s game. “I’ve always been a big fan of Christian, watching him on a couple different teams he played in San Jose and Vancouver and then into Buffalo,” Martin said. “Now we’ve got him. Very similar to a lot of the guys we have here. He skates really well, very poised, moves the puck great and he brings that offensive upside too. But he’s not afraid to compete, so he’s a good addition back there.” Ehrhoff, 32, recently took the time to answer a few questions about adjusting to his new team. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PLAY? I think I’m a puck-moving defenseman, I can get the puck up quick to the forwards and play in all aspects of the game. Log some minutes and just be a good all-around player. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ENJOYING PITTSBURGH? Good so far. The weather has been pretty good. We are pretty busy getting settled in, but we also saw some nice things like the zoo. We got a little tour, which was awesome. It was a really fun day. We got to see some animals real close. My girls were loving it. HOW IS YOUR FAMILY (WIFE FARINA AND DAUGHTERS LENI AND MILLA) GETTING ACCUSTOMED TO THEIR NEW CITY? They are handling it pretty well. They miss Germany a little bit because our whole family is there, but they have already made some friends here. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN FITTING INTO THIS LOCKER ROOM SO FAR? Really good. All the guys have been great. I’ve known Marcel [Goc] for a long time and so I’m pretty close to him and everybody else is great. You can at any time chat with anybody on the team. They have made the transition pretty easy for me. System-wise, everybody had to start from zero so everybody has been in the same boat.

THE SERIES [VS] BUFFALO

Tonight the Penguins face the Buffalo Sabres for the first time this season, closing out a homestand that began with games against New Jersey on Tuesday and the defending Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Pittsburgh has won three straight games against the Sabres since a 4-2 loss here on April 23, 2013 — the second of two Buffalo road wins over the Penguins in the span of 21 days, the first snapping what was then a Penguins’ team-record 12-game home winning streak. Pittsburgh won 13 straight at home last season. . . During the current three-game winning streak against Buffalo, the Penguins have outscored the Sabres, 12-2. . . Over its last 26 games against Buffalo, Pittsburgh is 19-7-0, with four of the those losses coming by a single goal. . . The Penguins have killed 13 straight penalties against the Sabres since Thomas Vanek beat Marc-Andre Fleury in the second period on Feb. 17, 2013. Pittsburgh has killed 31 of its last 32 penalties against Buffalo, and 40 of its last 42 — with both power-play goals allowed in that span scored with Pittsburgh down two men. The last time Buffalo scored a five-on-four power-play goal against the Penguins was almost five years ago here on Feb. 1, 2010, when continued on page 10

Jason Pominville beat Fleury. Since then, the Sabres have missed on 22 straight chances here in Pittsburgh. . . Each team has had just 10 power-play chances over their last four meetings, with Pittsburgh converting two. . . The Penguins are 3-3-0 in their last six home games against Buffalo. . . The Sabres have scored first in five of their last eight games here. . . The teams will meet again one week from tonight in Buffalo and then play again in Buffalo on the final night of the season, making this the Sabresâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; only trip to Pittsburgh. . . After this game, Pittsburgh begins its longest road trip of the season. The Penguins will play in Minnesota on Tuesday and Winnipeg on Thursday before facing the Sabres in Buffalo one week from tonight, then play the Rangers on Nov. 11 and Toronto on Nov. 14. Pittsburgh plays nine of its 14 November games on the road. . . The Penguins were off to a 4-2-1 start, including a 2-1-0 mark on the road, after a 3-0 victory in Nashville on Oct. 25. It was the 29th career shutout for Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 25 saves as Pittsburgh became the first team to hand the Predators a regulation defeat this season. It also marked the first time Pittsburgh had ever blanked Nashville. . . And it felt the way it’s supposed to feel as the Penguins not only protected a 1-0 lead in the final 20 minutes of regulation but were also able to remove all doubt by building upon their advantage against a team that had yet to lose in regulation “You need to do that, for sure,” captain Sidney Crosby assessed “It’d be nice if one was enough but sometimes mistakes happen, you get a bad bounce “So to give yourself that cushion and to keep playing the right way is important ” continued on page 24

That latter observation is the one the Penguins were hoping would resonate after improving to 4-2-1 and dropping the Predators to 5-1-2 It was one thing to bounce back and finish a game a mere two days after having let a 3-1 lead slip away in the final three minutes of regulation along the way to a hard-to-swallow, 4-3 overtime loss in Detroit What might mean even more to the Penguins in the long run is they found a balance between aggressiveness and responsibility And what transpired from that was more dramatic than the difference between a Motown golden oldie and the most recent Country chart-topper “We played the right way,’ Crosby continued “For the most part we didn’t sit back to play defensively I think we played defense with our forecheck, getting sticks in lanes and forcing them to miss shots sometimes “All around, that’s more our style of game ” What resulted from playing it was an effort as complete as it was suffocating, and one in which all of the components of what the Penguins are after were apparent • They kept the giveaways to a relative minimum (four) and had more takeaways (12-8) • They dominated on special teams, going 2-for-3 on the power play and blanking Nashville on three power-play attempts • They won 58 percent of the face-offs and out-shot (26-25) and out-hit (20-19) the Predators. That’s about as complete a template as you can get And while it wasn’t perfect — shots on goal is an area where the Penguins will consistently seek a much larger disparity — it provided tangible evidence of what the Penguins are capable of on the road against a quality team when they pay as much attention to positioning in each end and in the neutral zone as they do pounding pucks on the net continued on page 26

Mario Lemieux, one of the most respected figures in National Hockey League history, is in his 16th season as co-owner and chairman of the board of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Under the leadership of Lemieux and co-owner Ron Burkle, the Penguins have become one of the premier franchises in the NHL and in all of sports, leading the way in fan relations, youth marketing, community outreach and innovative technology while consistently putting a winning product on the ice — including eight straight playoff appearances, three conference finals appearances in the past seven years and a Stanley Cup championship in 2009. Known as Le Magnifique, Lemieux was one of the greatest players in NHL history from 1984-97 and 2000-06, winning six league scoring titles, three MVP awards and two Conn Smythe Trophies in addition to two Stanley Cups. A gifted 6-foot-4 centerman, he dominated play for parts of three decades despite a relentless series of medical setbacks, including multiple back surgeries and a battle with Hodgkin’s disease. He retired in 2006 as the No. 7 all-time scorer in NHL history with 1,723 points. He also ranked eighth all-time in goals (690) and 10th in assists (1,033). After retiring as a player in 1997, he put together an ownership group to buy the Penguins out of bankruptcy in September, 1999 and then returned to the ice on Dec. 27, 2000 — becoming the first player-owner of the modern era. In addition to his legendary hockey accomplishments, he continues to oversee the Mario Lemieux Foundation for cancer research and neo-natal research and hosts its annual golf tournament, which has raised more than $9 million for charity. Ron Burkle, one of the preeminent investors in technology, retail, manufacturing and distribution industries, is in his 16th season as co-owner of the Penguins. He teamed with Mario Lemieux to buy the team out of bankruptcy in September, 1999, and together they have become one of the outstanding ownership tandems in professional sports. Among Burkle’s many significant contributions to the Penguins was his essential role in negotiations for a new arena. An emphasis on branding and marketing, coupled with the team’s success on the ice, has enabled the Penguins to lead all U.S.-based NHL teams in local television ratings for five straight seasons. In 2012-13, the Penguins’ rating of 12.66 was the highest achieved by any U.S.-based NHL, NBA or MLB team on a regional sports network since 2002. Keeping with that trend, the Penguins rank among the NHL leaders in website traffic and Twitter followers while continually setting new standards for merchandise sales. Jim Rutherford is in his first season as the Penguins GM after being hired on June 6, 2014. Rutherford spent the previous 20 years as GM of the Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers franchise from 1994-2014 where he was a key architect of the Hurricanes’ 2006 Stanley Cup championship squad and their 2002 Stanley Cup finalist team. In addition to his general manager duties, he also served 20 years as president of Carolina/Hartford, taking the post in 1994. In his role as president/GM, Rutherford oversaw operations on both the hockey and business sides of the organization. He helped spearhead the efforts to bring the 2004 NHL Draft and 2011 NHL All-Star Game to Raleigh. Over the course of his executive career, Rutherford has won multiple awards, including The Hockey News ‘Executive of the Year’ in 2002 and ’06. Additionally, he was voted by his NHL general management peers as Sporting News ‘Executive of the Year’ in 2006. Before his 20 years in the NHL, Rutherford was recognized as the 1987 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) ‘Executive of the Year’, and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) ‘Executive of the Year’ in back-to-back years with the Windsor Spitfires in 1987 and ’88. He oversaw a Spitfires team that won the OHL championship in 1988 and earned a berth in the Memorial Cup. In addition to his time with Hartford/Carolina, Rutherford also spent over 30 years working with Compuware Sports Corporation, overseeing the purchase of Windsor in 1984 and bringing the first American-based OHL franchise to Detroit in 1989. Rutherford played 13 years as a goaltender in the NHL, appearing in 457 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, Toronto, Los Angeles and Detroit. JASON BOTTERILL ASSOCIATE GENERAL MANAGER

Jason Botterill is in his first season as associate general manager after being promoted from assistant general manager on June 6, 2014. As associate GM, Botterill assists GM Jim Rutherford on all hockey-related matters, including scouting, player development and contract negotiations. He also serves as GM of the Penguins’ top minorleague affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL). The WBS Penguins have made the playoffs all five years he has overseen the team, including back-to-back berths in the Eastern Conference Final (2013 and ‘14). Prior to his promotion, Botterill, 38, spent the previous five years as the Penguins assistant GM from 2009-14, and the two years prior to that as the team’s director of hockey administration beginning in 2007-08 where he was a key architect of the Penguins’ 2009 Stanley Cup championship team. Before joining the Penguins, Botterill worked for NHL Central Registry and as a scout for the Dallas Stars. Botterill was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the first round (20th overall) in 1994 NHL Draft and played in 88 NHL games for Dallas, Atlanta, Calgary and Buffalo before his career was cut short due to injury. He also suited up for 393 career minorleague games in the American and International Hockey Leagues, tallying 257 career points. A native of Edmonton who grew up in Winnipeg, Botterill played four years of college hockey at the University of Michigan and helped lead the Wolverines to an NCAA title in 1996. Botterill represented Canada in three straight World Junior Championships from 1994-96, winning gold medals all three years. During the ’94 and ’95 WJCs, Botterill was coached by current Penguins head coach Mike Johnston. Following his playing career, he received his MBA from his alma mater, the University of Michigan.

TOM FITZGERALD ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Tom Fitzgerald is in his first season as assistant general manager after spending the previous five seasons as the Penguins assistant to the GM from 2009-14. Fitzgerald’s duties include monitoring Penguins’ prospects playing in college, junior hockey, Europe and with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Additionally, he advises GM Jim Rutherford on all personnel decisions. Fitzgerald was named interim assistant coach of the Penguins on Feb. 15, 2009 and helped the club win its third Stanley Cup championship four months later. BILL GUERIN ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Bill Guerin is in his first season as assistant general manager after serving as Pittsburgh’s player development coach from 2011-14. Guerin’s responsibilities as assistant general manager include serving as a liaison between the players and management. As the Penguins player development coach, Guerin was instrumental in helping develop the Penguins’ minor league, junior and college prospects. Originally drafted by New Jersey in the first round (5th overall) of the 1989 NHL Draft, Guerin won two Stanley Cups (Pittsburgh, 2009; New Jersey, 1995) and spent 18 seasons in the NHL — including his final two with the Penguins. Guerin’s leadership and on-ice performance after being acquired at the NHL trade deadline was a key in Pittsburgh’s ’09 title. Guerin, a four-time NHL All-Star, tallied 429 career goals and 856 points in 1,263 career NHL games, including five 30-goal and two 40-goal seasons. He was elected to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.

MIKE JOHNSTON HEAD COACH

Mike Johnston is in his first season as head coach of the Penguins after being named to his position on June 25, 2014. Johnson had spent the past six years as the general manager/head coach of the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2008-13, where he helped turn Portland into a Canadian Hockey League powerhouse and perennial contender. Under Johnston’s guidance, Portland made four straight WHL Championship berths (2010-14), winning the WHL championship and earning a Memorial Cup berth in 2012-13. During that time his team won four straight conference championships. Johnston’s teams are known for their offensive prowess — during his six seasons with Portland, his team’s goals for total rose each year from 176 in 2008-09 to a league-leading 338 in ‘13-14. Johnston also served two NHL stints as assistant/associate coach of the Vancouver Canucks (1999-06) and associate coach of the Los Angeles Kings (2006-08). With Johnston’s help, Vancouver made four straight trips to the postseason and won the Northwest Division crown in 2003-04. He has represented his country multiple times internationally, including serving as assistant coach of Canada’s 1998 Olympic Team. As an assistant/associate coach for Team Canada, he has won five medals (2 gold; 2 silver; 1 bronze) at the World Championships and two gold medals at the World Junior Championships. Among the players he has coached with Canada are Jonathan Toews, Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Martin Brodeur, Jarome Iginla, Rob Blake and Martin St. Louis. Johnston has authored three books with former NHL player Ryan Walter: “Simply the Best: Insights and Strategies from Great Hockey Coaches”, “Simply the Best: Players on Performance” and “Hockey Plays and Strategies”. He played college hockey at Brandon University in Manitoba and Acadia University in Nova Scotia and has a Master’s Degree in coaching science from Acadia University. RICK TOCCHET ASSISTANT COACH

Rick Tocchet is in his first season as an assistant coach of the Penguins. Tocchet was hired as an assistant coach by Tampa Bay in July, 2008 and was elevated to interim head coach on Nov. 14 of that year. He was named head coach following the ‘08-09 season, where he remained in that position until 2010. Tocchet began his coaching career as an assistant with the Colorado Avalanche for two years (2002-04) before spending one season (‘05-06) with the Phoenix Coyotes. A veteran of 18 NHL seasons, including parts of three seasons with the Penguins from 1992-94, Tocchet won a Stanley Cup championship with Pittsburgh in 1992. The 4-time NHL All-Star (1989, ‘90, ‘91, ‘93) played 1,144 career NHL games and totaled 440 goals, 952 points and 2,972 penalty minutes in his NHL career. Tocchet was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the sixth round (125th overall) of the 1983 NHL Draft.

GARY AGNEW ASSISTANT COACH

Gary Agnew is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Penguins. Prior to joining Pittsburgh, Agnew was an assistant coach for the St. Louis Blues for two seasons from 2012-14, helping the Blues win the fifth-most games in the NHL during that span (81). Agnew spent four years as an assistant coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2006-10, where he helped the Blue Jackets earn a postseason berth for the first time in franchise history in 2008-09. As head coach of the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch from 2000-06, Agnew won a franchise-record 220 games, and he led Syracuse to its first-ever division title in 2001-02. He also has 14 years of coaching experience in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), including 11 as a head coach. He has won over 350 career OHL games with London (1989-94, ‘97-00), Kingston (1994-97) and Oshawa (2011-12). Agnew was named OHL Coach of the Year twice — in 1993 and ’98. MIKE BALES GOALTENDING COACH

Mike Bales is in his second season as the Penguins goaltending coach after serving the previous two seasons as the team’s goaltending development coach from 2011-13. Under his guidance, Marc-Andre Fleury won 39 games in 2013-14 and tied his career high by recording five shutouts. Bales was also key to Jeff Zatkoff’s development in his first NHL season where he posted a 12-6-2 record, 2.61 GAA and .912 save percentage. Bales, a native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, spent 18 seasons playing professionally from 1992-2010, including stints in the NHL with Boston and Ottawa. Bales also saw action with teams in the AHL, IHL, Germany, Sweden and Northern Ireland. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round (105th overall) of the 1990 NHL Draft. Before turning pro, Bales played three collegiate seasons with Ohio State University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) from 1989-92. TRAVIS WILLIAMS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Travis Williams is in his fourth season as Chief Operating Officer of the Penguins, overseeing finance, legal affairs, technology, business development and arena operations while reporting directly to CEO/President David Morehouse. Williams joined the Penguins in 2008 as Senior Vice President of Business Affairs/General Counsel and oversaw the construction and development of CONSOL Energy Center — bringing the project to completion on time and under budget. He is the organization’s liaison with building manager AEG Facilities and works closely with AEG on all arena-related events and initiatives. In recent years, CONSOL Energy Center has hosted such national events as the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Second and Third Rounds, the 2012 NHL Draft, the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four and the 2014 U.S. Gymnastics Championships. Williams also is the Penguins’ point man on the development of the former Civic Arena site and the construction of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry. Williams graduated from Penn State University and received a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University, summa cum laude. He lives in Nevillewood with his wife, Nichole, and six children.

DAVID PEART SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, SALES

David Peart is in his fifth full season as Senior Vice President of Sales and Service, overseeing all local revenue generating departments for the team including business partnerships, corporate sales, premium seating, ticket sales, broadcasting, and concession and merchandise sales strategy. Under his direction, the Penguins created the team’s Founding Partner Program at CONSOL Energy Center and launched one of the most comprehensive fan engagement initiatives in sports. In 2014, Peart was awarded the InStadium Experience Innovation Award presented by Sports and Entertainment Alliance in Technology for his work with the Penguins’ PensPoints loyalty program. Peart has held senior-level positions with the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers. The Kennedy Township native is a graduate of Point Park University, where he is a member of the Board of Trustees. He and his wife, Julie, have two children.

POWER PLAY The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and Highmark will KIDS WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE have completed five more dek hockey rinks for local communities in 2014 as their first-ofits-kind Project Power Play program enters its third year. The new rinks are located in Graham Park in Cranberry Township, Renzie Park in McKeesport, Settlerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Cabin in Oakdale, North Park in Allison Park and Bloomfield Park in Pittsburgh. Project Power Play is a $2.3 million initiative designed to build 12 dek hockey rinks in Pittsburgh and surrounding communities over a four-year period. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is leading the way by providing $1.5 million in funding, with the Penguins Foundation contributing $800,000. The rinks are multi-purpose courts measuring 155 feet by 75 feet. They include a premier dasher board system, scoreboard, player benches covered by metal shelters, a penalty box, goals and start-up dek hockey equipment. Project Power Play was introduced in 2012, with the first two rinks being built in Banksville Park and Lewis Park in Hazelwood. Four more rinks were added in 2013 at Brookline Memorial Park, Hosanna House Sherwood Event Center in Wilkinsburg, Riverside Park in Oakmont and Richland Community Park. The City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and surrounding communities are providing the land as well as maintenance services, lighting and additional support. One more rink will be built in 2015, bringing the total to 12.

PENGUINS RADIO NETWORK PLAY-BY-PLAY ANNOUNCER

One of the most unique broadcasters in professional sports, Mike Lange is calling games in his 40th season with the Penguins, handling radio play-by-play on the club’s flagship station, 105.9 FM The X and the Penguins Radio Network. Known for his creative and colorful style, including trademark phrases such as “Buy Sam A Drink And Get His Dog One, Too,” Lange was awarded the Foster Hewitt award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. Lange’s relationship with the Penguins began in 1974-75, when he broke into the NHL as a radio play-by-play man. He left for one season, but returned in 1976-77 and has been a fixture on the Penguins’ scene ever since. Lange did radio exclusively until 1979, when games were simulcast on radio and TV. He served as the television voice of the Penguins through 2005-06, before returning to the radio booth in 2006-07. A native of Sacramento, California, Lange earned a degree in broadcasting from Sacramento State University before starting his career as the voice of the Phoenix Roadrunners (WHL) in 1970. He also served as the play-by-play voice of the San Diego Gulls (WHL) in 1973-74 before joining the Penguins. In addition to his tenure with the Penguins, Lange handled play-by-play duties for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986-87. A well-known member of the Pittsburgh community, Lange makes numerous personal appearances throughout the year and is actively involved in charity work.

Two-time Stanley Cup Champion Phil Bourque is in his 12th season on the Penguins broadcast team, serving as color commentator alongside Mike Lange. A gritty winger/defenseman, Bourque was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent in 1982, and went on to record 164 points (75G-89A) in 344 regular-season games with the Penguins between 1983 and 1992. For his career he totaled 199 points (88G-111A) in 477 games with the Penguins, New York Rangers and Ottawa. Since retiring from professional hockey in 2000, Bourque has cohosted Penguins pre- and post-game shows on the Penguins Radio Network and worked as a contributor for ROOT SPORTS’ coverage of Penguins hockey.

After a 17-year career as the Penguins beat writer for the Washington Observer-Reporter, Bob Grove joined the team’s radio broadcasts in 1998 as a frequent studio host/co-host and is now in his seventh season as full-time host of the pre- and post-game broadcasts and intermissions on the Penguins Hockey Network. Grove wrote Pittsburgh Penguins: The Official History of the First 30 Years in 1997 and has contributed game notes to GOAL Magazine inserts or IceTime programs for every Pittsburgh home game since 1986. He was also a contributor to the second edition of Total Hockey and to The Game I’ll Never Forget. He is a senior writer covering hockey for the Pittsburgh Sports Report and also hosts Bob Grove’s Hot Stove on Penguins Radio 24/7.

Steve Kolbe enters his second season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Kolbe spent 14 seasons (1997-2011) as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Washington Capitals, broadcasting over 1100 games. His voice has been heard internationally on the NHL Network, XM Radio, NHL Radio, and ESPN. Kolbe broadcast the Stanley Cup Finals in 1998 and the NHL Winter Classic in 2011, and he was featured on the NHL Network’s documentary Voices in 2008. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Kolbe has over 25 years of broadcasting experience, and most recently has been a co-host of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Report on MASN (Mid Atlantic Sports Network) as well as talk show host for Major League Baseball coverage and NHL insider on CBS Radio 105.7 in Baltimore. Kolbe is a 1989 graduate of Michigan State University and earned a B.A. in telecommunications.

CONSOL Energy Center — now in its fifth year of hosting entertainment for every sort of audience — will present more top tours and banner sporting events in the future. The New Year will bring the Maroon 5 World Tour 2015 and the Second and Third Rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship to CONSOL Energy Center. The Pittsburgh arena’s reputation for hosting major sporting events will continue. The Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Championship will be contested in CONSOL Energy Center in 2017, the A-10 announced in September. Bernadette V. McGlade, A-10 Commissioner, says, “The opportunity to rotate our championship within the A-10 footprint is exciting. She adds that CONSOL Energy Center is a state-of-the-art venue with great fan amenities and a successful history of hosting NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship events. In addition to sporting events, well over 300 performances took place at CONSOL Energy Center in its first four Paul McCartney years of operation. Leading the eclectic parade of entertainers performing for CONSOL Energy Center audiences, Paul McCartney, the inaugural act on August 18, 2010, sold out his first show so quickly that a second performance was added for the next night. After winning five Grammy Awards earlier this year, McCartney came back to CONSOL Energy Center in July with his universally acclaimed “Out There” tour and played for another sold-out crowd. BEGINS 2014-15 SEASON The 2014-15 season is underway for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite hockey teams. The organization has been practicing since early August as well as participating in various weekend tournaments and showcases since the beginning of September. The Penguins Elite compete at the AAA level and feature (9) nine boys teams and (5) five girls teams competing at various age divisions. The kickoff to the season began over Labor Day Weekend when the Penguins Elite hosted 26 teams for their annual Icebreaker tournament presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. The weekend featured games at both Robert Morris and CONSOL Energy Center. As of September 29, 2014, the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite have (8) eight teams ranked in the top 25 for their respective age divisions. Of those eight, five are ranked in the top 10 in country, including the U12 girls’ team which ranked number one in the country. The teams include the following: Midget Minor, Bantam Minor, Pee Wee Major, Pee Wee Minor, Squirt Major, U19 girls, U16 girls and the U12 Girls. All rankings are according to MyHockeyRankings.com. The Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Midget and Bantam (boys) and U19, U16, and U14 (girls) aged teams compete in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, which is known as the nation’s premier amateur hockey league, featuring 20 organizations from across the country. The younger teams play under an independent schedule in which they organize and schedule their opponents in various tournaments through the fall and winter. QUEBEC TOURNAMENT This past week, the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 2002 team was officially accepted to participate in the 56th Annual Pee-Wee Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament, February 12-23 in Quebec City. The Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament is known as the most important minor hockey tournament in the world, grouping young hockey players (11 and 12 years old). About 2,200 young hockey players from 15 countries come to Quebec to participate in the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. This Tournament takes place during a period of 12 days with crowds totaling around 200,000 fans, every year. This extraordinary event, very popular, was founded in 1960 and has never ceased to grow in importance. The members of this team will not only be a part of a great tournament but will follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest hockey players of all time. Many stars from the National Hockey League have passed through this Tournament: Brad Park, Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dionne, Gilbert Perrault, Mark Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Sylvain C么t茅, Eric Lindros, among many others including Penguins owner Mario Lemieux. In 2014, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and UPMC Sports Medicine expanded the Heads UP Pittsburgh concussion awareness program to include a free flexibility kit to the first 2,000 participants in the new testing period that began on June 16. KIDS WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE Free cognitive baseline testing was available on a first-come, first-served basis for athletes ages 10-14. For athletes under 10 years of age, a Pediatric version of the test was available at a minimal cost. Community College of Allegheny County once again served as host to testing at its Boyce, North, South and West Hills Center campuses along with UPMC Center for Sports Medicine on the South Side. Community College of Beaver County joined the initiative as a new site for testing and education. The entire testing process takes about one hour. Certified athletic trainers from UPMC Sports Medicine supervise the program and testing. While the athletes are being tested, parents meet with the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion staff to learn about the Heads UP Pittsburgh program and how to handle concussions if they occur. Heads UP Pittsburgh, the first program of its kind and a blueprint copied by other NHL organizations, began in 2011 with baseline testing and parental education programs for youth hockey players. In 2012, the Penguins Foundation expanded the program to include athletes of all sports ages 10 to 14. Since the programâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s inception, over 13,000 athletes have been tested and over 33,000 people educated. HOCKEY IS FOR

EVERYONE For years Western Pennsylvania youth sports have been dominated by the likes of football, basketball and baseball. Recently however, the region has begun to see a change in preference and participation in sports. Hockey is rapidly becoming the most popular and fastest growing sport in the area. Success seen with the Pittsburgh Penguins on the NHL ice has surely created a demand and a certain excitement around the game, however the popularity of hockey goes well beyond the wins and world class talent the Penguins possess. A genuine love for the game is starting to sweep the area. Kids are beginning to play hockey at younger and younger ages thanks to the Little Penguins: Learn to Play Hockey program. This program will allow 1,000 kids, ages 4-8, to receive free head-to-toe gear all thanks to the support of Sidney Crosby, Reebok and DICKâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;S Sporting Goods. Since it began in 2008-09 over 5,200 have been introduced to hockey through this program. The Penguins have also teamed up with the DICKâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;S Sporting Goods, Trib Total Media and the YMCA to create the YMCA Jr. Penguins program which introduces children to the sport through ball hockey. Each year, over 3,100 children participate in organized ball hockey at local YMCAs. Recently the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and Highmark have partnered together for Project PowerPlay, which will build 12 dek hockey rinks throughout Allegheny County over a threeyear period and allow local residents to play dek hockey for free. Dek hockey is becoming a great way to learn and play hockey without having ice, and was also vital in the development of current Penguins forward Beau Bennett who grew up in sunny California. continued on page 129

In 2014, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation embarked on a new venture, Tablets in Education. This innovative, new program combined the latest in tablet technology with educational apps and content. With the assistance of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU3), 60 schools in Allegheny County were selected to participate in the first year of the program; distributing 1,200 Kindle Fire HDX 7 tablets to local schools. Each school enrolled in Tablets in Education received 20 Kindle Fire HDX 7 tablets, a mobile charging station and 20 shock resistant covers. Each device was then loaded with over 50 educational apps, books and specialized content. These apps were carefully selected with the assistance of Common Sense Media and the professionals at the AIU3, providing more than $100,000 worth of content. The devices are designed to be utilized for unique educational programs, extended learning programs and programs for children with disabilities. The technology utilized in Tablets in Education is designed to enhance a childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s academic achievement while continuing to support their social development and relationships with adults and peers through the most critical years of an adolescentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s growth and development. A portion of the funding for this new program was made possible by contributions through the EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) program. ICEBURGH A delight for children of all ages, Iceburgh — the official mascot of the Pittsburgh Penguins not only provides fans with exciting game entertainment but this large, energetic bird can also be seen at a multitude of community events and elementary schools throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. Iceburgh arrived on the scene in 1992 and is a staple at all team events. During Penguins’ home games, fans most definitely notice the antics of Iceburgh leading sections of fans in cheers, greeting young children on the concourse or displaying his athleticism on-ice between periods. In 1995, Iceburgh made his Hollywood debut, starring alongside Jean Claude Van Damme in the motion picture Sudden Death. He has gained both national and international exposure through film, TV and a variety of personal appearances. Iceburgh wasted no time getting acquainted with his new home at CONSOL Energy Center in September of 2010. You can find Iceburgh sliding down stair banisters, dancing in the stands and tossing t-shirts to fans. Iceburgh has performed in Russia and Japan, was featured in the opening of ESPN’s SportsCenter and recently performed in front of a record crowd of over 68,000 at Heinz Field for the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. He is also regularly featured on in-game videos and has appeared in advertisements and television promos on ROOT Sports. In addition to his annual trek to the NHL All-Star Game, Iceburgh makes annual appearances at the Mascot Olympics held in Orlando, FL. Now in its third season, Pittsburgh Penguins Elite is one of the country’s premier youth hockey organizations. A joint effort of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and corporate partner DICK’S Sporting Goods, Penguins Elite offers a comprehensive program for player development and includes 14 teams in various age group — nine boys’ teams and five girls’ teams. The program features an outstanding coaching staff, professional management, world-class training facilities and access to elite-level competition — along with proven academic and career guidance.

In 2014-15, Penguins Elite boys’ teams will range from Squirt Minor through Midget Major, including a U15 team. Girls teams will be offered at 19&U, 16&U, 14&U, 12&U and 10&U age groups. The funding provided by DICK’S Sporting Goods and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has reduced player participation fees by nearly 35% annually. In addition, DICK’S Sporting Goods provides FREE game jerseys and socks, practice jerseys and socks, pant shells, warmups and equipment bags to players each season. Players and parents also receive discounts on equipment and team-branded apparel purchased through DICK’S Sporting Goods. The NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins provide unique opportunities for PPE players, including practicing at CONSOL Energy Center, participating in the Icebreaker and NHL Youth Cup Tournaments and having the opportunity to attend select games and special events. Hockey’s National Championships, compete in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. Tier 1 Elite is known as the nation’s premier amateur hockey league, featuring 20 organizations from across the country. Many are programs affiliated with NHL teams, including the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets, Dallas Junior Stars, the Phoenix Junior Coyotes and the Los Angeles Junior Kings, among others. Forward • 1st Round, 22nd Overall Kapanen, the son of former NHL player Sami Kapanen, was the No. 1-ranked European prospect entering the 2014 NHL Draft by Central Registry. During the 2013-14 season, he played professionally for KalPa of the Finnish Elite League where he and Sami were teammates. Beyond the Numbers: Both Kasperi and his father were selected in the NHL Draft by current Penguins GM Jim Rutherford. Sami Kapanen was chosen in the fourth round (87th overall) in the 1995 Draft.

SAM LAFFERTY

Forward • 4th Round, 113th Overall A native of Hollidaysburg, Pa., which is located just outside of Altoona, Lafferty played amateur hockey for the Altoona Trackers of the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL). A graduate of Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, Lafferty is currently playing college hockey at Brown University. Right wing Patric Hornqvist did very well with Nashville, totaling 106 goals and 110 assists in 363 games. His centers were quality. But they weren’t Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Now the 5-foot-11, 189-pound Swede is with the Penguins. He started the season on a line with Crosby. He plays the top power play with both superstars. But Hornqvist, 27, hasn’t altered his style one bit. He works down low and crashes the net, just like he did with the Predators. “I’m not going to change my game,” said Hornqvist. “I’m way too old for that, and Pittsburgh knew what they got when they traded for me. “That’s the way I am. I go hard to the net and create a lot of energy for the team. Try to win some puck battles down low and give it to another player.” The Penguins desperately needed a wing that plays like Hornqvist. James Neal, who was sent to Nashville in exchange, might be a superior talent and is definitely the better shooter. But Hornqvist is helping change the Penguins’ dynamic, especially on the power play. Last season, Chris Kunitz was the only player on the top PP unit that regularly frequented the blue paint. This season, both Kunitz and Hornqvist are attacking that duty, and excel at retrieving loose pucks. continued on page 162

Hornqvist started the campaign by compiling four goals and four assists in the Penguins’ first six games. He had 34 shots on goal, which placed him second in the NHL as of Oct. 24. For Hornqvist, it’s all about the front of the net. “You need to spend as much time there as you can,” Hornqvist said. “Sometimes you get the bounces. Sometimes you don’t. You just need to stick in there and battle. Always try to get your stick on the ice, and get open.” Give Hornqvist an inch, and he’ll take a foot. He’ll take a shot, too. Hornqvist is amazing at getting his stick open in a crowd, then putting a puck on net. Hornqvist opened the season playing right wing on a line with Crosby and Kunitz. Nobody like Crosby in Nashville, right? “No,” said Hornqvist. “It’s different coming from Nashville, where we didn’t have those [kind of] centermen. We were pretty strong on defense, and with Pekka [Rinne] in net. “But coming here is a good opportunity for me to improve my offensive game. To play with [Crosby or Malkin] is a big opportunity to score more goals.

“Those are probably the two best players in the league. We want to control the puck. Don’t give it away easily. Protect it when we get it down low.” Hornqvist’s style is physically demanding. “Sometimes you get bounced around a little bit. Sometimes you can bounce the defenseman, too,” Hornqvist said. “I like the battles in front.” Hornqvist debuted with the Predators in 2008. Nashville was the only NHL organization he’d known, having been drafted by the Preds in the seventh round of the 2005 entry draft. Getting traded to the Penguins was a jolt. “It was a big shock, obviously,” Hornqvist said. “[Nashville] called me in the middle of the night. Sweden is six hours ahead. For the first 10-15 minutes after I got traded, I thought it was a dream. Then Pittsburgh’s GM [Jim Rutherford] called me, but it took me 3-4 days to really realize what happened. “But after that, I got so excited to get a chance to play for such a great organization. I’m just so happy to be here.” He’s excited to play for new coach Mike Johnston, too. “Mike is a really professional guy,” Hornqvist said. “He’s really detailed, and he speaks really well. It’s really clear, what he wants to do. I like that. There’s not much of a gray area. He really explains how we want to play.” Mark Madden hosts a radio show 3-6 p.m. weekdays on WXDX-FM (105.9).

It truly was no contest — the four Penguins players dressed as KISS won best costume at the team’s annual Halloween party. “I think the best one I saw was definitely Pauly Martin, Robert Bortuzzo, Beau Bennett and Nick Spaling dressed up as KISS,” Brandon Sutter said. “They had the boots and the makeup and everything. It was unbelievable. That’s definitely the best I’ve ever seen, so that was above and beyond.” Winning the competition was definitely the goal, said Martin. “Beau and ‘Borts’ won the year before,” he said. “So they let me and Spaling be on their team [this year]. So it was nice of them to do that.”

Martin’s favorite part of dressing up wasn’t rocking and rolling all night — it was actually the ride to the party. “The best part was we had to drive to the spot, so we were all in a car blasting KISS music with the windows down and we got a couple of weird looks,” Martin said. “That was a lot of fun.” Each player adopted a different band member’s onstage persona. Bennett was KISS frontman Gene Simmons (The Demon), Spaling was Catman, Bortuzzo was Starchild and Martin was Spaceman. “I think we just each grabbed a costume,” Martin said when asked how they decided who was whom. “I’m not really sure exactly how it went down, but I think we made Beau be Gene [laughs]. I don’t think that was his choice. But it worked out.” The four of them were walking around a costume shop looking for ideas when they saw the getups and Martin urged them into going with it. “He’s a big music guy and were kind of just walking around and saw it,” Bortuzzo said. “We figured if we were going to do it, we’d do it right. There was nothing else behind it.” Also in that picture was Kris Letang, who dressed as the Mad Hatter from Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland. “I just love that movie,” Letang said. “Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors, so I kind of tried to pull that off. It didn’t take much time [to get into costume]. The makeup was the biggest. First we didn’t find an orange wig, so we had to take a yellow one and paint it orange. Then they added orange eyebrows and all that stuff.” Other honorable mentions for best costume included Rob Scuderi, who went as one of the Ghostbusters, Chris Kunitz, who dressed as Ron Burgundy while his wife went as Veronica Corningstone, and Christian Ehrhoff, who went as a disco singer. “A lot of the guys are pretty creative,” Crosby smiled. “It’s fun to do.”

6.6K RACE CELEBRATES THE START OF HOCKEY SEASON By: Molly McClincy

A brisk October morning heralded the start of the 2014-15 hockey season with the Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Run and One-Mile Family Walk presented by CONSOL Energy. The unique race, now in its second year, offered a signature 6.6K (4.1 miles) distance in homage to Pittsburgh Penguins legend and team co-owner Mario Lemieux. A shorter, pet-friendly one-mile walk provided an option for families to enjoy the festivities. Race proceeds benefitted the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. Race participants, many dressed in Penguins attire, gathered outside of CONSOL Energy Center on October 5 for an 8:30 AM start. After receiving a birthday Smiley Cookie cake from Eat nâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Park, Mario Lemieux sounded the starting gun. The quintessentially Pittsburgh course, which featured two bridges, a river and a tunnel, culminated with runners dashing up Centre Avenue to the finish line where Lemieux was waiting to high-five them. continued on page 190

In addition to a unique course, the event offered participants a chance to give back to their community. Proceeds from the race fund valuable community initiatives for the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and the Mario Lemieux Foundation. The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation promotes youth wellness, education, and teamwork. In 2013, the Penguins Foundation contributed over $5.5 million to charitable organizations in the Pittsburgh area. Foundation programs like Project Power Play allow youth in the area to experience the physical, mental and social benefits of the sport of hockey. Penguins Foundation President Dave Soltesz was extremely pleased with the race turnout, noting, “this year’s race saw a 40% increase in participants. People have enjoyed the challenging nature of the course and the unique vistas it offers.” Proceeds from the 6.6K also fund the Mario Lemieux Foundation’s cancer research and patient care initiatives. Lemieux Foundation President Nancy Angus praised the community’s support, saying, “We are especially pleased so many runners and walkers supported the event. It’s wonderful to receive such community support for both the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation!” After the race, participants enjoyed an open Penguins practice where they watched the team run through drills and prepare for the start of the 2014-15 season. This year’s turnout was tremendously successful, with over 6,300 registered participants. Thanks to everyone who came out to support two worthy causes — we look forward to seeing you next year!

UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT Challenging or disputing the ruling of an official and abusing the line of respect.

HOOKING Using the stick or blade to hook an opponent.

MISCONDUCT Called for various forms of unsportsmanlike conduct.

HOLDING Using hands on an opponent or his equipment.

CROSS CHECKING Hitting an opponent with both hands on the stick and no part of the stick on the ice.

INTERFERENCE Having contact with an opponent not in possession of the puck.

BOARDING Driving the opponent into the boards.

ICING Shooting the puck across the opponentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s goal line from behind the center red line and allowing the opponent to touch the puck first.

GAME MISCONDUCT PENALTIES A new Game Misconduct category will be created. Clipping, charging, elbowing, interference, kneeing, head-butting and butt-ending move from the general category into the same category as boarding and checking from behind (Physical Fouls), whereby a player who incurs two such game misconducts in this category would now be automatically suspended for one game.

RULE 24

PENALTY SHOT The Spin-O-Rama move, as described in Section 24.2 of the 2013-14 NHL Rule Book, will no longer be permitted either in Penalty Shot situations or in the Shootout.

RULE 38

VIDEO GOAL JUDGE Video review will be expanded in the following areas: * Rule 38.4 (viii) has been modified to allow broader discretion to Hockey Operations to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g., to ensure they are good hockey goals). The revised Rule will allow Hockey Operations to correct a broader array of situations where video review clearly establishes that a goal or no goal call on the ice has been made in error. The new expanded rule will also allow Hockey Operations to provide guidance to referees on goal and potential goal plays where the continued on page 198

referee has blown his whistle (or intended to blow his whistle) after having lost sight of the puck. * In reviewing Kicked in Goals, Hockey Operations will require more demonstrable video evidence of a distinct kicking motion in order to overrule a goal call on the ice, or to uphold a no goal call on the ice.

RULE 57 TRIPPING

The rule relating to Tripping will be revised to specifically provide that a two minute minor penalty will be assessed when a defending player dives and trips an attacking player with his body/arm/shoulder, regardless of whether the defending player is able to make initial contact with the puck. But, in situations where a penalty shot might otherwise be appropriate, if the defending player dives and touches the puck first (before the trip), no penalty shot will be awarded. (In such cases, the resulting penalty will be limited to a two-minute minor penalty for tripping.)

RULE 76 FACE-OFFS

To curb delay tactics on face-offs after icing infractions, in situations where the defending team is guilty of a face-off violation, following an icing, the defending player who is initially lined up for the face-off will be given a warning, but will be required to remain in the circle to take the face-off. A second face-off violation by the defending team in such situation will result in a two minute minor bench penalty.

RULE 64

DIVING / EMBELLISHMENT The supplementary discipline penalties associated with Rule 64.3 (Diving/Embellishment) will be revised to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties. RULE 84 OVERTIME

* Teams will switch ends prior to the start of overtime in the regular season. * The entire ice surface will undergo a dry scrape prior to the start of overtime in the regular season. * The procedure requiring the head coach to submit a list of the first three shooters in the shoot-out has been eliminated.

RULE 85

PUCK OUT OF BOUNDS There have been further rule changes made relating to face-off location to avoid penalizing teams for plays intended to create bona fide scoring opportunities. Specifically, the following are categories of plays where face-offs will remain in the attacking zone despite the fact that the attacking team was technically responsible for the stoppage in play: Shots at the net by a player on the attacking team where: (i) the shot breaks the glass; (ii) the shot goes off the side of the net and deflects out of play; (iii) the shot goes off the dasher boards or glass and deflects out of play; (iv) the shot is tipped or deflected out of play by a teammate; and (v) the shot becomes wedged in or on the exterior of the goal net. In addition, the following rule change will be enacted for the 2014 preseason and may be continued for the 2014-15 regular season if approved by the League and the NHLPA.

BUILDING INFORMATION ALCOHOL Guests of CONSOL Energy Center must be 21 years of age or older to purchase and/or consume alcoholic beverages. ARAMARK reserves the right to check proof of legal drinking age. There is a maximum of TWO (2) alcoholic beverages per purchase at all concession stands and portable vendors. For Pittsburgh Penguins games, all alcohol sales within the arena will conclude at the beginning of the third period. Individual concerts and events are determined on a show-by-show basis.

ATM MACHINES For the convenience of our fans, ATMs are available in CONSOL Energy Center: First Niagara Bank - Outside section 119 and 230, and in the lobby of the Trib Total Media Gate PNC Bank on PNC Legends Level - Outside of party suite 44 and suite 13

BAGS, BACKPACKS AND PURSES For security purposes, only small personal bags (purses, baby or diaper bags, etc.) will be permitted inside CONSOL Energy Center and all items are subject to search upon entrance. Large bags, coolers, backpacks and sealed packages, including gifts for performers and/or athletes of any kind are not permitted unless otherwise noted on the individual event page.

BANNERS AND SIGNS Banners and signs are permitted for most events, providing they are appropriate, as deemed by building management. Signs must not be commercial in nature or utilize wood, metal or other types of objects for support. They cannot be hung or fastened anywhere in the building or in any way obstruct another guest’s view or building signage.

AUTOMOTIVE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AAA will have a “Puck Truck” at all Penguins home games. The “Puck Truck” is available to assist patrons that have trouble with their vehicles in CONSOL Energy Center lots only. Fans can call 1.800.AAA.HELP after the start of the third period.

BABY CHANGING STATIONS Baby changing stations are available in all restrooms, located on all seating levels of CONSOL Energy Center.

In return for safe and sober transportation of their group from CONSOL Energy Center, the designated driver will receive a coupon redeemable for a complimentary soft drink during the game.

DOORS OPEN Doors generally open one (1) hour prior to the start of an event at CONSOL Energy Center, including Pittsburgh Penguins games. Please check the individual event page for further information. CONSOL Energy Center has a no re-entry policy; once you leave the building during an event, you will not be permitted to return.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION In the event of an emergency, CONSOL Energy Center staff will utilize the public address (PA) system

FAMILY RESTROOMS Family restrooms are available on all levels of CONSOL Energy Center near sections 106/107, 108, 115, 121, 213, 225, party suite 44 and suite 13.

FIRST AID There are two (2) UPMC First Aid Stations, one on each level of CONSOL Energy Center. UPMC First Aid is located adjacent to the Guest Services office outside section 104 and behind the concession stand at section 232.

WHEELCHAIRS A limited number of wheelchairs are available for transporting guests that are disabled to their seating location. Guests can be transported from the gates to their seats.
