He entered the world of video game music as the director and conductor of the “Dear Friends: music from FINAL FANTASY” tour, which led him to conduct in 2006 the new “VOICES: music from FINAL FANTASY” concert in Tokyo, “More Friends: more music from FINAL FANTASY” in Los Angeles, and to become conductor and music director of “PLAY! A Video Game Symphony” featuring music from FINAL FANTASY®, World of Warcraft®, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind™, Halo, and Battlefield 1942™, and more. He has been the featured conductor of videogame music concerts around the world.

Having worked with the official concert productions of some of the most famous video game franchises of all time, Arnie Roth has become one of the world’s most renowned conductors of video game music.
As both producer and music director, and by working closely with with legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu and SQUARE ENIX, he premiered “Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY” in December 2007 and has been incessantly touring the world ever since, bringing the music of FINAL FANTASY to 4 continents and performing in front of hundreds of thousands of video game music fans.

Classically trained vocalist, Susan Calloway, joins Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY, as an exciting addition to her career as an award winning pop singer & songwriter. Susan’s commanding voice first caught the attention of Grammy award winner Arnie Roth, and the celebrated FINAL FANTASY composer Nobuo Uematsu in the mid-2000s. They strongly believed that her vocals would compliment “Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY” audio CD in which she performed “Memoro de la Stono “. It was received so well by fans that Susan was included on “Distant Worlds II: more music from FINAL FANTASY”, singing “Melodies of Life”, and “Suteki Da Ne “. As her popularity grew within the gaming community, Nobuo himself asked Susan to sing his new theme song for FINAL FANTASY XIV, “Answers “, which was released in 2011. Nobuo Uematsu is one of the most celebrated composers in the video game field. He has achieved global recognition for his work on the FINAL FANTASY series that has been performed by world-class orchestras around the world. Uematsu-san has been recognized as a major contributor in the increasing appreciation and awareness of video game music. A prime example is the FINAL FANTASY VIII theme song, “Eyes on Me,” which he composed and produced. His song featured Hong Kong pop star Faye Wong and sold a record 400,000 copies. It also won the "Song of the Year (Western Music)" award at the 14th Annual Japan Gold Disc Awards in 1999, which was the first time that music from a video game received this illustrious honor. The music from the game series has grown to such notoriety that Uematsu-san was named as an "Innovator" in Time Magazine's Time 100: The Next Wave Music feature.

Critically acclaimed as one of the finest choruses in the country, the 115-year-old MCP is re-inventing choral music for the 21st century. Under Music Director Matthew Mehaffey, MCP is celebrated for its innovative programming, commissions, and partnership programming, including the recent world premieres of Satan’s Fall by Stewart Copeland, The Times They Are A-Changin’: The Words and Music of Bob Dylan by composer/conductor Steve Hackman, and MCP’s new series, Global Choral Traditions, offered in partnership with City of Asylum. This season, MCP will present the Pittsburgh premiere of a multi-media work it co-commissioned, The Notebooks of Leonardo DaVinci by composer Jocelyn Hagen, featuring animations of DaVinci’s famous drawings as the backdrop to a lush choral score that speaks to the power of genius and transformation.
MCP fosters the next generation of choral singers and audience members through its educational program, the Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (JMCP). Founded in 1988, JMCP is the region’s premier high school choral training and performance program. Annually, the JMCP attracts singers from more than a dozen school districts, providing youth with a challenging musical environment in which to develop their skills and giving them the tools and experiences to be life-long participants in the arts.

The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP) is the “voice of the greater Pittsburgh region,” whether they are premiering a choral work composed by Stewart Copeland of The Police based on John Milton’s Paradise Lost at a rock venue, to performing Mozart with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at NYC’s famed Carnegie Hall. Unlike other professional arts organizations, MCP is proudly made up of mostly amateur singers whose day jobs vary from postal clerk to physician to casino card dealer. Because of their passion, commitment, and talent, our singers give their all to create memorable experiences at Heinz Hall or in the community to share their joy of singing with the widest possible audience.
MCP has been the proud choral partner of the PSO for almost 100 years bringing the joys of symphonic choral music to tens of thousands of people in the region each year. Before moving to Pittsburgh Ryan taught at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. At St. Andrew’s he served as Middle and Upper School Choral Music Director, Chapel Music Director, and as an assistant Middle and Upper School baseball coach.
Dr. Ryan Keeling is active as a teacher, singer, and conductor in the Pittsburgh area. Ryan is the Director of Choral Activities at Westminster College where he conducts the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Treble Chorus and teaches classes in Diction and Choral Conducting. Holding positions in the artistic leadership of three of Pittsburgh’s premiere choral ensembles, he serves as the Artistic Director of Voces Solis, Conductor of the professional women’s choir Virago, and the Assistant Conductor of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s “chorus of choice.” Under Ryan’s leadership, Voces Solis has been selected by blind jury to perform at regional and state ACDA conferences. Recent performances include the east coast premiere of ODC|Dance’s production of Path of Miracles by Joby Talbot, choreographed by KT Nelson with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh Professional Core, Andrea Bocelli International Tour with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd with Hilltop Opera, and Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass with Voces Solis.

Ryan also serves as Artist in Residence at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park. Ryan is in demand as conductor of honor choirs having conducted middle and high school honor choirs in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio.
Ryan has been heard as tenor soloist in performances with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Concert Chorale, and at the National Pastoral Musicians National Conference. In 2012 he made his New York City debut performing Bach’s cantata BWV 4 Christ Lag in Todesbanden and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Ryan holds the D.M.A. degree in Conducting from West Virginia University where he studied with Dr. Kym Scott and Dr. Jeffery Redding, the M.M. degree in Choral Conducting from East Carolina University, where he studied with Dr. Daniel Bara, and the B.A. degree in Music Education from West Liberty State College, where he studied conducting with Dr. Alfred de Jaager and voice with Dr. Linda Cowan. He has worked with such preeminent conductors as Dale Warland, Simon Carrington, Manfred Honeck, and Osmo Vänskä.

Ryan was previously Director of Choral Activities at West Liberty University, the Assistant Director of Music and Worship Life and Director of Choirs at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park where he conducted six choirs, Director of Choral Music at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, a Professional Core tenor in The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, and the Director of the Pappert Men’s Chorale at Duquesne University. As Music Director and Principal Conductor of OvreArts, Dr. Keeling conducted the OvreArts Sinfonia and was the founding conductor of the OvreArts Chamber Singers.

Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra have received multiple GRAMMY® nominations for Best Orchestral Performance, taking home the award in 2018 for their recording of Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5; Barber: Adagio. As early as 1936, the Pittsburgh Symphony has been broadcast on the radio. The orchestra has received increased attention since 1982 through national network radio broadcasts on Public Radio International, produced by Classical WQED-FM 89.3, made possible by the musicians of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Lauded as the Pittsburgh region’s international cultural ambassador, the orchestra began regular touring in 1896 and has embarked on scores of domestic and international tours. In the summer of 2022, Music Director Manfred Honeck led the orchestra on an extensive and highly acclaimed tour of Europe, celebrating 75 years of international touring for the orchestra.
The Pittsburgh Symphony is continually at the forefront of championing new American works.
