Overview of Presentation • What is BP Columbus? • Inter-Agency Coordination Strategies • Linear application successes based on O&M and localized flood mitigation • Road-Right-of Way Applications
2
City of Columbus WWMP • Ohio EPA Consent Decree • WWMP solutions included tunnels and gray infrastructure • Priority area identify • I/I Studies conducted over the last 10 years • Private Property I/I root cause 3
What is Blueprint Columbus? • USEPA Integrated Planning Memo • Columbus requested revision to their WWMP to integrate green infrastructure • Blueprint Columbus branded in 2013 • Blueprint works to eliminate sewer overflows by: • Keeping stormwater out of our sanitary sewers • Slowing down & filtering the flow of stormwater into our storm sewers
4
Over-Arching Goals • Lining the Sanitary Sewers • Addressing WQ • Mitigating Flooding • Neighborhood Revitalization

Program Backbone
6
Pilot Area Technical Committee • PATC was created • PATC meetings included several technical memos • Transportation/Linear Coordination • Modeling Guidance • Design Charettes
7
Inter-Agency Coordination and Cost Sharing • All-Hands Meetings • Cooperating Resources • CIP Planning • Grant Access • Cross-Pollinating Benefits
8
LID Benefits and Challenges on Linear Roadway Application Roadway LID Benefits • Large public ROW • Treatment Train of distributed LID features • Disconnect impervious pavement areas at source. • Pre-treatment along existing vegetated filter strips and swales in ROW. 9
Roadway LID Challenges • Safety • Maintenance • Vector Control • Structural Integrity • Utility conflicts • Sediment Clogging

GI Placement Options Did you know?
Water quality studies have shown that the main causes of impairment are from direct habitat alterations, nutrients, siltation, and flow alteration. Bioretention practices provide the best water quality benefits in addition to enhancing neighborhood values. Alley Alternative GI practices such as permeable Reestablishment of Brick Streets Before Before water quality improvement pavements provide and high pollutant removal. Research has indicated up
to 97% removal of TSS, 42% of TN, 82% of TP, and up to 99% of heavy metals. Research has also shown permeable pavements attenuate runoff volume when compared to impervious parking lots and substantially reduce Utilization of pollutant loading to receiving water bodies. Street Islands Before
