THE FUTURE During the last 5 years with the success of Milos Raonic- who was an OTA junior player BEFORE he became a top-ranked world competitor - Ontario has seen a rapid and sustained growth in tennis participation, increasing by 12% since 2011. Capacity is our future challenge as we continue to increase tournaments year after year to accommodate the demands of our young players for competitive playing opportunities. The addition of 10 indoor courts will help meaningfully address our need for accessible winter venues. Pictured to the left are the winners/finalists of the 2016 Under 10 Champions Program along with event supporters Murray and Roda Rubin. Held annually in February, the Under10 Champions features over100 boys and girls competing for $20,000 in training grants. Increasing the number of available, high quality Indoor tennis facilities is a critical issue for the future of tennis in the province if we want to continue to grow the game.

RATIONALE • Tennis Canada Aviva Centre is currently operating at or above capacity. • Tennis is growing rapidly in Ontario, with particular interest at the youth level. • Overall lack of indoor facilities in Ontario along with uncertainties around existing ones (i.e. private operators of aging facilities selling land for re-purposing) may seriously hinder the development of our next group of world-level competitors and the game in general.
