THE GAFFER
SIMON WEAVER As this Saturday is our final home game before Christmas, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas from everybody at the club. We hope you get to spend time with those close to you and cherish those moments. On the pitch we’ve got some big fixtures to come, including away games at Sutton United and of course the Yorkshire derby vs Bradford City at Valley Parade on Boxing Day, which should be a magnificent occasion. However, our attention must first switch to Northampton Town, who have some very impressive recent league form. They’ve most recently picked up maximum points against Exeter City and Leyton Orient, who both currently occupy play-off spots, so that alone shows the threat they possess.
4
just got to show our strength as a group and come out fighting against Northampton.
We’ve been a depleted squad recently but have had a great couple of weeks in terms of performances and results, but facing league leaders Forest Green on Tuesday night proved to be just a step too far and although we started really well, a couple errors - potentially due to tired minds and bodies - put us on the back foot midway through the first half. To be 3-0 down at the break was not what we wanted but I thought the players reacted well in the second half and we played some good stuff, didn't crumble and we carried on showing the same character as last Saturday against Portsmouth.
Looking at the bigger picture, I think we're in a great situation where we're seven points off Northampton who are second in the league. We've also got Lewis Page returning, potentially Ryan Fallowfield as well which boosts the squad massively and Rory McArdle has been back in full training. It’ll be great to get the likes of him back into the squad to keep driving the competition for places and to also give some tired bodies a rest.
I said to the group after the game not to bruise too much and not to dwell on it. There are lessons to be learned again against good opposition who will probably run away with the league this season. Saying that, I didn't think the gap was as big as the score line suggested and we made a good effort but to no avail. There’s no need for confidence to take much of a blow, I think we've
Thank you for your continued support and Merry Christmas.

Northampton is a fixture we can be really excited about and I look forward to seeing you all filling the terraces today and hearing that roar, ready to give us that boost to go again.

JOSH FALKINGHAM
From having more than a two week gap between home games to now having two in just four days, we’re quickly back at the EnviroVent Stadium this Saturday to take on second place Northampton Town. We come into the game following a defeat to Forest Green which was a sore one to take, as I feel we gifted them three goals in the first half, and when you give anybody that head start you’re giving yourself a massive uphill battle. I personally felt we played okay and I don’t think the score line actually reflected the difference between the two sides but nonetheless, it was disappointing to come away with nothing after what had been a really good couple of weeks. Recent performances and results gave us belief we could get something from the game but unfortunately we didn’t achieve that. We can’t make excuses though and we now need to move on to what is another tough but exciting fixture. We can’t let the last game affect us and it’s time to get our home form back on track. We started the season well at home, but results haven’t gone our way in the last few, and I truly believe a good season needs strong home form, so we’ve got to find that consistency. Teams are showing us that respect at home and making it difficult for us, but we’ve got to expect that, and in return make it a difficult place to come. The fans have been turning out in their numbers and we have a responsibility to put in performances that turn into results that send everyone home happy. We feel the disappointment of a defeat just as much as the fans so we’re desperate to really kick on at home. Northampton are at the top end of the table and are a quality side who have come down from League One. It’ll make for a difficult game for sure, however, if the supporters can keep making the ground a hostile environment for opposition players, it’ll play a big part.
6
I HARROGATE TOWN AFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME
Saturday is also our final home game before Christmas. We can’t look too far ahead but we’ve got an important few weeks coming up and we knew December would be a big month. If we think back to previous promotion seasons, results during the Christmas period were really good so we’ve got to aim to replicate that. Consistency is the key word. We can’t go win, draw, loss because we’ll find ourselves falling rather than looking upwards. We’re after back to back results and if we can do that before the year is out, that will boost us going into the second half of the season. Finally, I’d like to finish by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas from me and all the players. It’s an amazing time of year to spend with families and loved ones, and personally I love Christmas. Football at this time of year always adds to the buzz and feel for players, staff and fans so hopefully results on the pitch in the next couple of weeks can add to the festive joy. Enjoy today’s game.

COMPLETING
THE 92
Today we are pleased to welcome Ipswich Town fan, Tom Allen to the EnviroVent Stadium as he ticks another ground off his list in his quest to visit all 92 current EFL grounds. Town's Club Chaplin, Rob Brett spoke to Tom this week about his challenge... RB: I would like to welcome Tom Allen to Harrogate Town today in his quest to watch a match at every football league ground in England. Tom is an Ipswich Town season ticket holder and has made the trip to Harrogate today in a bid to complete the “92” this season. Tom, how many current football league grounds have you been to? TA: Rob, thank you for the warm welcome. Harrogate Town will be the 89th current football league ground so I will only have three to go! RB: 89! Which other grounds do you need to visit? TA: Hartlepool United, Barrow and Sutton United. I am really hopeful of completing the “92” this season. Ipswich Town are playing Barrow in the FA Cup so I'm hoping for a draw so that I can attend the replay at Barrow! The league clubs change every season so my trip to York City no longer counts as one of the 92! RB: When did you start and why did you do it? TA: Supporting Ipswich Town over the last 10 years has been pretty depressing so we decided to go to a few games where the outcome was less important to us and we've had a lot of fun doing so. With Ipswich now in League One, we have been able to visit more clubs than we initially thought would be the case! RB: What have been your highlights in the quest? TA: There have been so many but we saw a feisty local derby between Bury and Rochdale (another club that no longer counts towards the 92) and enjoyed many a pint of real ale in the Trackside pub afterwards. We had a great night at Northampton in February 2018 and enjoyed the best curry of the 92 before the match at Walsall. Probably the best hotel we've stayed at in terms of value for money was the Royal Toby in Rochdale. The best atmosphere was created by 800 Plymouth Argyle fans who travelled up to Salford on a Tuesday night! Mansfield’s cover of Elvis’s “Wonder of You” was the funniest entry music.
12
I HARROGATE TOWN AFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME
Tom (centre) with two other members of Project 92
RB: Although Harrogate Town and Ipswich Town have yet to face each other in a league or cup fixture the two clubs are linked by a current player and a former player. Luke Armstrong’s dad Alun played for Ipswich Town between 2000 and 2004 scoring 19 goals in 94 appearances and Jon Stead played for Ipswich Town in the Championship between 2008 and 2010 scoring 19 goals in 64 appearances. TA: Two great servants of ITFC who scored incredibly significant goals for us. Ipswich Town have a unique record in European football. They have played 31 two leg ties in Europe (including two against both Barcelona and AC Milan and one from Real Madrid) and are unbeaten at home. When we drew Inter Milan in the 2000-01 UEFA Cup we feared that record could be severely tested. Despite our fears, Ipswich won the first leg at home 1-0 with a late header from Alun Armstrong. When you score the winner against rivals Norwich City you become an instant ITFC legend, and in 2009, Jon Stead did just that in a dramatic 3-2 win at Portman Road. RB: Tom, I really hope you enjoy your day at Harrogate and that it is one of the best experiences of the 89 so far!

Moving to Sixfields in August 2015, the 28-year-old winger is the Cobblers' longest-serving current player. He began his career at Southampton, making four substitute appearances for the Saints before loan spells with Rotherham United and Stevenage. He joined newly promoted Championship club Yeovil Town in June 2013, and during his two years at Huish Park, had a loan spell at Barnet before joining Northampton. Now in his sixth season at Sixfields, Hoskins has racked up almost 270 appearances in all competitions. This season, he has been ever present and is top scorer with seven league goals.

The Cobblers signed winger Mitch Pinnock in June after the 26-year-old turned down a new contract with Kilmarnock. Starting his career with Southend United before a successful spell with Dover Athletic, he joined League One AFC Wimbledon in the summer of 2018, and made 73 appearances in two seasons in South West London, scoring seven times. Jack English
Roly Mills
Dave Bowen
Ken Leek
Long-serving forward Jack English holds Northampton Town's alltime goalscoring record. Signing professional for the Cobblers in October 1946, he helped finish Third Division (South) runners-up and reach the FA Cup fifth round in 1949-50. He starred alongside Fred Ramscar and Willie O'Donnell as Northampton narrowly missed promotion again in 1952-53. Netting 31 League goals in 195354, he helped to beat Arsenal in the 1957-58 FA Cup third round, scoring 135 times in 302 League outings before joining Gravesend & Northfleet in July 1960. He later played for Rugby and died locally in November 1985. His father of the same name managed Cobblers.
One of the most significant figures in Northampton Town's history, Dave Bowen managed them from the Fourth Division to First. Starting with the Cobblers, the wing-half joined Arsenal in July 1950 and was capped 19 times by Wales including the 1958 World Cup. He returned to Northampton as player-boss in July 1959 and guided them to promotion in 196061, the Third Division title in 196263 and into the top-flight in 196465. Appointed general manager in September 1967, he had another spell as team manager from May 1969 until May 1972, then was general manager and secretary. He died in September 1995. His son Keith also played for the Cobblers.

Ex-England Youth international Roly Mills missed just one match in Northampton Town’s 196061 promotion success. Signing professional at the County Ground in May 1951, he made his League debut in Northampton’s 4-1 defeat at Colchester in September 1954. He featured in the 1957-58 FA Cup third round victory at home to Arsenal and helped win the Third Division title in 1962-63, netting 30 goals in 305 League games for Cobblers, then was reserve team trainer and lottery manager during 39 years’ service. Later managing Long Buckby, he worked for British Timken and died locally in February 2010. His son Gary was an England U-21 international.
Welsh international inside-left Ken Leek had two spells at Northampton Town. Signing professional for the Cobblers in August 1952, he scored in the 1957-58 FA Cup third round win over Arsenal. He joined Leicester City in April 1958 but was dropped from their 1961 FA Cup final team. Moving via Newcastle to Birmingham City in November 1961, he scored twice in their 1963 League Cup final triumph and rejoined Northampton in December 1964. He helped to reach the top-flight, scoring 31 goals in 87 League games overall, before joining Bradford City in November 1965. Later with Rhyl, Merthyr Tydfil and Ton Pentre, he died in November 2007.

He moved to Blackburn Rovers in February 1968 and was leading scorer in their 1974-75 Third Division title triumph. Rejoining Northampton in November 1975, he helped them clinch promotion that season, netting 70 goals in 228 League games overall. Later with Hitchin Town, he became a painter and decorator and died in November 2009.
Barry Tucker
Welsh full-back Barry Tucker was ever-present in Northampton Town’s 1975-76 promotion success. Signing professional at the County Ground in August 1970, he was given his League debut in Northampton’s 4-2 defeat at Bury in November 1971 and featured in their 1973-74 promotion nearmiss. He followed Bill Dodgin to Brentford in February 1978 and helped them to clinch promotion that season. Rejoining Northampton in October 1982, he netted eight goals in 277 League games overall for the Cobblers before hanging up his boots in May 1984. Settling locally, he became sales office manager for tool suppliers FG Metcalfe & Sons.

John Gregory playing for Northampton Town
Former England Youth striker Jim Hall was leading marksman and ‘Player of the Year’ in Northampton Town’s 1975-76 promotion success. Born locally, he turned professional at the County Ground in July 1963 and helped Northampton reach the top-flight. ACADEMY
Introducing the next generation of Town stars...
Tom Liddle What first made you get involved with Town? I heard about Town when they were promoted to League Two and when I heard about the Club having trials, I tried to get a place.
What are your long-term ambitions, football wise? My long-term ambition is to play at the highest level but my focus at the moment is to continue to improve and challenge for Town's first team.
What do you consider are the strengths of your game? My range of passing is definitely one of my strong points.
What is the best thing about being involved with Town? Since arriving at Town it's clear that there is such a positive enviroment around the place and the people I have met on my journey here so far are such great people. It's a great place to be.
How do you think your game has developed whilst at Town? My confidence has grown since joining Town and my mindset has improved substantially already.
26
Biggest influence in your football progression so far? My Sunday League coach has been very important in my development. I had him for five years before joining Town and he kept pushing me hard every single session.

What are you hoping to achieve in the Academy side this season? I'd like to think that we can still finish in the top half of the table. It will be a challenge, but it's not out of reach if we can put in some consistently good performances and get the positive results with it.

Her eye for goal will add to the quality we have up top and her desire for promotion will give the current squad a huge boost as they share the same ambition. Hannah is a defenders worst nightmare, she never gives up, she wants to score goals and she will not stop running from the first minute to the last. Hannah is a fantastic signing and I can’t wait to see her flourish at Harrogate Town

GETTING TO KNOW...
Rachel McDonald
Rachel is sponsored by
Tell us a little bit about your footballing background? Started playing at Harrogate Railway aged nine and was there until I was 20, had a short spell at Leeds United before joining Town three years ago.
How do you think the last 10 weeks have gone? Tough! There’s been lots of big changes from last year and the standards have been set but were all on the same page and its done wonders for the team all round.
What first made you get involved with Town? I'd started to fall out of love with football but Jon Maloney, Towns first coach, got in touch and got me down for a session which I absolutely loved and I've never looked back since.
Your thoughts this year's squad? Without doubt, the best squad since I’ve been at the club, it’s really competitive but most importantly we're one team.
What do you consider are the strengths of your game? I’m pretty physical and love a strong tackle.
Toughest moment so far? Beach fitness day! – mentally and physically one of the most demanding preseason sessions I've ever experienced.
If you had to compare yourself to a player in your position, who would it be? Jamie Carragher – not the most technically sound but puts everything on the line to win. What are your thoughts when you step on to the pitch? To give my absolute all. What would like to achieve with Town this season? Simple - promotion! On a personal note, to get as may minutes as I can and hopefully score a few goals. What is the best thing about being involved with Town? There is a great team spirit and everyone is working so hard for the same goal.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be? Lil Nas X – That’s What I Want. What is your gameday song that prepares you for the game? All of Lights – Kanye West. Favourite holiday destination? Colorado.

Carl Brook takes charge of his 15th game this season in what is his second season as an EFL match referee, following four years in the National League. Despite refereeing six Town games in all, Brook is making his first trip to the EnviroVent Stadium as the man in the middle. The Scot was in charge for our 2-0 win at Leyton Orient in August as well as our 1-2 loss at Cambridge last season. He has refereed three Northampton games in all, including the 1-3 home defeat to Rochdale earlier this season. So far this season, he has shown 56 yellow cards and four red, whilst last term, he handed out 100 yellow cards in 28 games, showing three red cards. On Saturday, Carl will be assisted by Alan Clayton and Paul Stonier, while Aaron Jackson will assume the role of fourth official.

Giving Football Back to Small Business At eBay, we know small business and football clubs used to be like chips and gravy, two peas in a pod – a match made in community heaven. Ironmongers, ship workers, spring makers and cobblers, all formed clubs which decades later are still prospering. But nowadays, you’d think it was all eyewatering transfers, Super Leagues and mega sponsors, detached from the humble origins of our historic clubs.
That’s why eBay are proud to support 300,000 small businesses who help power EFL clubs nationwide. We’ll be donating our advertising space to a lot of these businesses – on match day hoardings, around grounds and beyond – throughout the coming season, to ensure they can continue to thrive in our local communities. So, join us in giving your support to Small Business Power, because today, they need us more than ever.
