THE GAFFER

SIMON WEAVER

Good afternoon and welcome to the EnviroVent Stadium for believe it or not, our first home league game of 2022. It’s crazy to think we hosted our last League Two fixture over a month ago and since then so much has gone on. There’s been Christmas, the New Year, postponements due to Covid in opposition camps and then in our camp, progression to the Quarter Finals of the Papa John’s Trophy and of course, our debut in the Third Round of the FA Cup. It’s been a very irregular and unpredictable schedule for us and looking back at performances and results, it’s fair to say it’s been a very mixed bag. In the Papa John’s Trophy, we turned it around against Tranmere to win 2-1 and the second half of that game was very promising in how we moved the ball and attacked with purpose. We then faced Carlisle at home and got the early goal and clean sheet which was pleasing. However, we then faced Luton Town and Newport County and suffered heavy defeats which was bitterly disappointing for us. In the dressing room after Newport, there was a flat feeling as we all felt that the standards just weren’t near what we expect, on and off the ball. It was a game with no supporters but Newport grabbed the game and were thoroughly professional and exposed us badly, so credit to them. It was extra frustrating because just a week earlier, we’d gone to Luton and enjoyed plenty of the ball and used it well, except for putting the ball in the back of the net. We were given plaudits by those at Luton after the full-time whistle but we don’t want to be a side that plays well and concedes four or become an ‘unlucky’ side. We’re an ambitious group and we have to become more resilient if we want to make that next step and kick on. January does mean that the transfer window is open and so far, we’ve added some new faces

4

I HARROGATE TOWN AFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

which add more energy and depth to the squad. Josh Austerfield, Brahima Diarra and Lewis Richards have all joined on loan. They’re not here to just sit on the bench and make up numbers, they’re here to challenge for starting places and help us pick up points. We’ve also added Leon Legge - the big man prides himself on winning his aerial battles and that part of the game is so important at this level. Like with any new signing it can take a few games to get used to a new style but I’m confident each will have a positive impact. We’ve now got a lot of games coming up in a short period and it’s important we go on a good run. To do that, we’ve got to nail the basics as individuals and as a team and build momentum and confidence. We’ve seen in our recent Papa John's Trophy games that we’re more than capable of dominating and punishing teams and now it’s time to put that into action in the league, starting against Oldham Athletic. As I mentioned at the start, it’s been a while since we’ve played a league game at home so it’s something we’re looking forward to. It’ll be great to see the yellow and black army in the terraces cheering us on again and you can be sure we’ll be doing everything we can to get the points. Enjoy the game and thank you for your support.

THE SKIPPER

JOSH FALKINGHAM It’s been a little while since I’ve sat down to do my Captain’s notes due to the postponements of recent fixtures but today, we’re all back at the EnviroVent Stadium as we welcome Oldham Athletic for our SkyBet League Two fixture. In seasons before this, it’s never felt like we’ve had a mid-season break but this time it’s definitely felt like it following our festive fixtures being moved to later dates. It feels like now is the start of the second half of the season and it’s an opportunity to kick on and first and foremost, try and get a result. There’s no hiding that our league form has been poor recently and our last two matches against Luton in the FA Cup and Newport County in the League resulted in score lines that weren’t acceptable. There’s no point trying to say things to paper over the results, we simply weren’t good enough and as players, we’ve got to take responsibility and ownership of that. You can lose games by the odd goal and it be really tight or things don’t go your way but there’s nothing to say when you suffer two 4-0 defeats in a row. It’s not a nice feeling for anyone associated with the club and so now it’s about us putting things right and making sure it doesn’t happen again. I think it’s so important that we get a win early on in this second half of the season so we can really build some momentum and go on a run like we have done in prior campaigns. If I’d been asked 6/7 weeks ago whether I saw this form coming, I’d have said no but this is where we find ourselves. We as players believe we’re better than what we’ve shown in the last 5-6 games but what matters now is getting a result. Whether it

6

I HARROGATE TOWN AFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

be pretty or not, we’ve just got to find a way as getting that winning feeling back in the group can do so much for confidence and momentum. We’ve got a substantial number of games coming up in the next few weeks and so now is the time to build that momentum and put our words into action. We can’t however afford to look too far ahead as this Saturday is a massive game for us and I’m sure the crowd will be right behind us like they always are, which will make a huge difference and will be a huge help to all the players. Oldham had a tough season so far but they will be fighting for their lives in every single game. They won’t make it easy for us at all and we’ll have to fight harder than them and do the ugly side of the game better than them to come away with the result. Enjoy today’s game.

FROM THE BOARD

SARAH BARRY A very warm welcome to the EnviroVent Stadium, our first Saturday afternoon home game of 2022.

responsibility by following our published Covid-19 guidance to protect yourselves and others.

It was fantastic to start the season with supporters allowed back and we’re seeing an increasing number of fans returning more regularly averaging 2500 attendance, twice topping 3000. Our aim is to build on our core of incredible long term supporters with the next generation of Town fans as we attract more families and young people.

Looking ahead, we are planning to grow the club across the board within the wider Harrogate District Community, working with more schools, Junior clubs, charities and organisations. We’re developing the -match day experience and entertainment, creating a sense of occasion with local flag bearers alongside our very own Harry gator, and player mascots who will return when restrictions allow.

It’s fair to say we’ve had a mixed season to date in an extremely competitive League Two. We saw the phenomenal last-minute win against Portsmouth seeing us through to the FA Cup 3rd round for the first time in our history which was an unforgettable experience. And though we bowed out against Luton, the score didn’t reflect our performance on the day and we did ourselves proud. As much as we enjoyed the cup run whilst it lasted, we’ve got to look ahead and focus on the league games coming fast as we catch up on fixtures. That said, we’ve still got the Quarter Finals of the Papa Johns Trophy to look forward to as we take on Sutton next Tuesday… The disruption of fixtures over the festive period has been very frustrating but unavoidable as a result of Covid-19 and injuries combined,. Football is tradition in the holidays which we badly missed, I’m glad to say all matches affected have been rescheduled and I hope we’re through the peak. We encourage everyone to take personal

8

I HARROGATE TOWN AFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

We’re also working on plans to further develop the stadium to increase the capacity and facilities. Short term, we’re looking at a solution to add a bar facility for home supporters as we appreciate this is not ideal and thank you for your patience whilst we grow. Many of you have been in touch already and I encourage feedback so let us know what you’d like to see happening. For now, on behalf of the board, and all the team at Harrogate Town AFC, we thank you sincerely for your support. Enjoy the game! #ProudToBeTown

14 handy tips to help you reduce condensation in your home this winter...

Condensation occurs when warm air collides with cold surfaces, or when there's too much humidity in your home and creates water, water which collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it. This is especially common in winter, when your central heating system comes on in the cooler hours of the mornings and evenings. While condensation itself isn’t a problem, if you do not treat it, it can cause damp patches to form where mould can grow and this can be bad for your health, as well as damaging the fabric of your home. If you are seeing lots of condensation in your home and are worrying about it developing into damp, a free home survey by one of our local ventilation specialists can help you get to the bottom of your problem.

14 WAYS TO REDUCE CONDENSATION IN YOUR HOME 1. Use pan lids when cooking 2. Close kitchen and bathroom doors 3. Dry clothes outdoors 4. Turn on the extractor fan when your using the shower 5. Ensure washing machine is correctly vented 6. Move furniture away from external walls 7. Install an extractor fan 8. Open windows when it's warmer outside 9. Wipe down cold surfaces 10. Ensure your property has adequate heating 11. Don't overfill wardrobes and cupboards 12. Stop using portable gas and paraffin heaters 13. Install double glazing, loft and wall insulation

NEED HELP WITH CONDENSATION, MOULD OR DAMP PROBLEMS? Adequate ventilation is essential to allow the moisture to escape from a property before it turns into condensation. Installing an energyefficient extractor fan in the kitchen and bathroom can improve the humidity levels and prevent condensation. An alternative approach would be to have a whole house ventilation system installed in your home, ATMOS® can provide a condensation-free environment and can help reduce the moisture levels throughout your home.

ARRANGE A FREE HOME SURVEY TODAY One of our local experts will contact you to learn more about your problems, offer free expert dvice and make recommendations for a permanent solution. During the free survey we will: • Assess any condensation, damp or mould problems in your property • Take readings of the relative humidity levels • Identify any underlying problems and make recommendations for a permanent solution Contact us today to book a free home survey.

#ProudToBeTown

Meet January transfer window addition, Brahima Diarra! The 18-year-old Frenchman has joined on loan from Huddersfield Town until the end of the season and is already exciting Town fans with his quick feet and direct running!… by Henry Whitaker Brahima, tell us a little bit about your life growing up in France. I grew up just outside of Paris and I played for a team in my city called Parisian club Montrouge F.C. 92, before moving to Athletic Club de Boulogne-Billancourt. I remember being six years old when I first kicked a football and I’ve always loved football. I used to watch Zinedine Zidane a lot, is touch and passing was magical. I’m also a big fan of N’Golo Kante because he is very humble but an aggressive footballer.

You moved to England when you were just 15-years-old to join Huddersfield Town’s academy, was that a big and difficult decision for you to make? Yes, moving to England was a big decision that I had to make. I had to leave my family which was hard but I think it was the right thing to do. They always call me though and try to watch every match I play in. The reason I decided to join Huddersfield is because they have a plan and a project for me. I went into Huddersfield’s digs with two other French players and that was better for me as it helped me to adapt to things quicker. Everyone at Huddersfield was so kind to me thought and welcomed me and the other French players to the club.

Is football in England different to in France? It’s more technical than English football and in England it’s quicker and more intense. I think that if you can play in England you can play everywhere. I’m quite a technical player so I now need to get use to the intensity and if I can add that, I give myself a chance to be a great player.

#ProudToBeTown I www.harrogatetownafc.com

What type of player are you? I’m an aggressive player who likes to get on the ball. I always try to help my teammates score goals as well as score goals myself so I’m hoping I can do that for the rest of the season.

You made your league debut for Huddersfield in December 2020 coming on as a substitute against Bournemouth, can you describe how that moment was for you? It was a dream I’ve had since I was a kid and I couldn’t believe it was actually happening. It was during Covid when games where behind closed doors but fans were allowed back for this game. There were 2,500 in the stadium and two minutes after half time I was warming up but then the manager called me back which I was surprised about. It was a special moment for me to come on in front of all the fans, I really enjoyed it.

You joined Harrogate Town at the start of the transfer window, how have you found it here so far? They’ve all welcomed me to the club and they’re all nice people which has helped me integrate in to the squad. To start in the FA Cup against Luton was fun and I enjoyed the moment. I could hear the roar of the fans every time I got the ball and when I felt tired it helped me to keep going.

What’s your ambition as a footballer? I want to play in the best leagues in the world and win as many trophies as I can.

FROM THE VAULTS Our Club historian Phil Harrison delves into the archives to take a look at memorable Town matches from the past starting with a title win in 1982... Here we see season 1981/82 and the Harrogate Advertiser report on the last match of the season at Bradley Rangers on Thursday 6th May 1982. Town needed two points to clinch the league title and become Champions whilst their opponents were also in with a chance of finishing top. 150 Town fans cheered them on to a 3-1 victory with goals from John Murphy, Mick Margis and John Deacey. This was actually Town’s last Yorkshire League season before joining the North Counties East League.

SEEING THE SIGNS

Club Chaplain Rob Brett has again been speaking to Mike Gibbs, Vice Chair of the mental health charity Mind in Harrogate District (MiHD) and Town Season Ticket holder. Mike, can you tell us what signs we may see when someone is suffering with a mental illness? Many people will suffer some form of mental illness over the course of their lives. Often, they will not recognise that they are suffering. This is where family, friends and work colleagues can help by spotting the typical signs that someone they know is not well. Mental illness can sometimes be complicated. However, the following are some of the common signs that a person is suffering: • Being withdrawn or lost in thought • Losing their sense of humour • Being erratic, unusually agitated, tearful, or, conversely, emotionless • Changes in appetite, weight or sleep patterns • Increased alcohol consumption • Not enjoying activities they would normally enjoy Thanks Mike, what can we do if we think someone we know may be suffering? Start by saying you’ve noticed a change in their mood or behaviour - without being critical. Or, simply ask “are you feeling alright?”. Say you’re concerned and ask if they’d like to talk. Don’t downplay their problems or say things like “what do you have to be depressed about?”

20 I HARROGATE TOWN AFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

Listen and give them space to describe how they’re feeling. Encourage them to see their GP or offer to go with them to see a health professional. If you think they’re at risk of suicide, you can call the emergency services, or call their GP for an emergency appointment. How important is it that we look out for each other and are not afraid to talk about this? Recognising the signs of mental illness early can make an enormous difference to all of our health and our lives! It’s like any illness, the sooner it is treated the better. Your sympathetic intervention can help make the difference. Your support will ensure that your family, friend or work colleague could get the help that they need. Referral to a GP is always recommended as a first step, where often diagnosis and treatment can be offered. Remember your vigilance may ensure that an individual does NOT suffer a further deterioration in their mental health and could help towards earlier recovery. Thanks Mike. Let’s all keep an eye out for these signs in our friends, family and colleagues but also in ourselves.

CHRISTMAS DONATIONS ROUND UP It’s been a busy festive period for the Harrogate Town Community Foundation, who this Christmas have been committed to helping those less fortunate than themselves.

At the start of December we asked the Harrogate Town community to provide items which could be of benefit to charities within the district, including Resurrected Bites, Harrogate Homeless Project, SASH, Harrogate District Food Bank and Harrogate District Hospital. We were overwhelmed with the generosity and support from everyone and we’re delighted to say we were able to donate so many important items including toiletries, canned food, chocolates and toys to those who need them most. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s helped to make a difference. It’s why we’re #ProudToBeTown.

SCOUTING REPORT

Three members of the Latics' squad to keep a close eye on today...

Carl Pergianni

Ryan Browne/Shutterstock

Joining Oldham permanently from Salford City in summer 2020 after a loan spell, the 29-year-old earned legendary status with the Ammies after playing an influential part in their back-to-back promotions to the EFL. Prior to joining Salford, he began at Peterborough United where he came through their Academy before joining Stockport County in 2011. In 2013, he signed for Boston United and after 100 appearances for the Pilgrims moved to South Melbourne in Australia’s Second Division in January 2017 before joining Salford City that May. The no-nonsense centre back has racked up over 70 appearances for the Latics and is now club captain at Boundary Park.

Davis Keillor-Dunn

Dylan Bahamboula

Joining the Latics in August 2020, top scorer Davis Keillor-Dunn spent his youth career at Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Chesterfield before moving to Ross County in July 2016. He turned out 29 times for the Staggies in the Scottish Premiership in his first season but after limited opportunities the following season joined Falkirk on loan in January 2019. He signed for Wrexham in January 2020 playing six times before the season was ended early. After the departure of Conor McAleny to Salford in the Summer, the 24-yearold Scot was tasked with leading the Oldham front line having scored 11 goals in 49 games last season. So far this season he has six goals in 24.

Prior to joining the Latics in October 2020, the 26-yearold Congolese international started at AS Monaco, playing in their second string before a spell at Ligue 1 Dijon. After a loan at Gazélec Ajaccio in the French fourth tier, he moved to Romania in 2018 with Astra Giurgiu and a year joined CSC in Algeria. After a season in Bulgaria with Tsarsko Selo, he moved to Boundary Park scoring seven in 43 appearances last season, whilst this term, the midfielder has four goals in 20 games.

Eric Gemmell scored 23 times as Oldham Athletic won the Third Division (North) title in 1952/53. Player-manager George Hardwick signed Tommy Lowrie from Aberdeen and Latics were unbeaten in their first 13 matches, winning 5-0 in both matches against Darlington. The run ended with a 1-0 defeat at Gateshead but Oldham Athletic recovered with Eric Gemmell scoring hattricks as they beat Hartlepools 4-2 and Tranmere 5-2. Alf Clarke netted three times as six straight wins climaxed with a 4-1 win over Workington but Latics won just one of their next 11 games before clinching the title with a 0-0 draw at Bradford City.

Bert Lister netted a post-war record 32 goals as Oldham Athletic won promotion in 1962/63. New signings included Jim Bowie, Bob Ledger, Peter McCall and Bill Marshall, with Latics going top of the Fourth Division with a 12-match unbeaten start. Exeter triumphed 2-1 to become the only side to win at Boundary Park that season, then Colin Whitaker arrived from Rochdale in October. Bert Lister netted six goals as Latics gained a record 11-0 victory over Southport on Boxing Day. Ken Branagan, John Colquhoun, Bob Ledger, Peter McCall and Alan Williams were ever-present as Latics finished runners-up to Brentford.

Jim Fryatt and David Shaw scored 47 goals between them as Oldham Athletic won promotion in 1970/71. Latics recovered from a 4-1 defeat at Grimsby on the opening day to win five of their next seven games, with David Shaw scoring four times in a 5-1 victory over Brentford and grabbing a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Aldershot. The 5-3 demolition of Crewe launched a run of nine wins in ten games that took Latics up to second place, overcoming a 5-0 defeat at rivals Bournemouth to maintain their challenge. Jimmy Frizzell's side clinched promotion with a 0-0 draw at Workington and also won the Ford Sporting League.

Jimmy Frizzell guided Oldham Athletic to the Third Division title in 1973/74. Latics had narrowly missed promotion the previous season after selling David Shaw to West Brom. Andy Lochhead arrived from Aston Villa but Oldham Athletic's early form was inconsistent and by mid-January they were mid-table and 13 points behind leaders Bristol Rovers. The 2-1 victory at Wrexham sparked a run of ten straight wins that catapulted Latics into the promotion frame. Alan Groves was signed from Bournemouth and they slammed six goals past Cambridge, Southport and Huddersfield, clinching the title with a 0-0 draw at Plymouth.

Roger Palmer was ever-present and top scorer as Oldham Athletic qualified for the Second Division play-offs in 1986-87. Joe Royle's side raced to the top with five wins in their opening six games before the unbeaten start ended with a 5-4 defeat at Huddersfield. Tommy Wright arrived from Leeds United in October and helped Latics regain pole position with a 2-0 win at Elland Road the following month. Mike Cecere secured a regular slot as they maintained their challenge on the new plastic pitch at Boundary Park and finished third. They lost on away goals after a 2-2 draw against Leeds in the play-off semi-finals.

Joe Royle managed Oldham Athletic to the League Cup final and so nearly the FA Cup final as well in 1989/90. Newcomers included Neil Adams and Rick Holden, with Latics climbing the Second Division table after a poor start, losing just four times in 27 games. They beat Leeds 4-2, Scarborough 7-0, Arsenal 3-1, Southampton 2-0 and West Ham 6-3 in the League Cup before losing 1-0 to holders Nottingham Forest in the Wembley final. Latics defeated Birmingham 1-0, Brighton 2-1, Everton 2-1 and Aston Villa 3-0 in the FA Cup before taking Manchester United to a semi-final replay. They finished in eighth place.

beating Nottingham Forest 5-3 and Ipswich Town 4-2 but then slipped down the table. They completed the double over Ipswich and Middlesbrough, also defeating Manchester United 1-0 and Wimbledon 6-2 but were facing the drop until wins over Aston Villa 1-0, Liverpool 3-2 and Southampton 4-3 in their final three games kept them up on goal difference at Crystal Palace's expense.

1990/91

Oldham Athletic won the Second Division title in 1990/91. Denis Irwin and Mike Milligan were sold during the summer and newcomers included David Currie and Richard Jobson, who replaced the injured Andy Holden. Latics stormed to the top of the table, remaining unbeaten in their opening 16 matches and recovering from two consecutive defeats to hammer Brighton 6-1. New signings Gunnar Halle and Paul Kane helped Joe Royle's side maintain their title challenge. England international Earl Barrett, Andy Barlow and Jon Hallworth were ever-present as Latics regained top-flight status after 68 years' absence.

1991/92

Oldham Athletic consolidated top-flight status under Joe Royle in 1991/92. New signings included Graeme Sharp and returning favourite Mike Milligan from Everton, with Latics beating Chelsea 3-0 in the opening home match and trouncing Torquay 9-1 in the League Cup first round. Victories over Coventry City and Sheffield United lifted them up to mid-table, then they won 2-1 at Manchester City and Neil McDonald was another arrival

from Everton in October. Oldham Athletic remained clear of relegation danger despite the sale of Earl Barrett to Aston Villa, with Graeme Sharp scoring four times in a 5-1 win over Luton.

1992/93

Oldham Athletic retained Premier League status after a dramatic relegation escape in 1992/93. Summer signings included Ian Olney from Aston Villa and Neil Pointon from Manchester City. Joe Royle's side lost only two of their first nine matches,

Joe Royle guided Oldham Athletic to the FA Cup semi-finals for the second time in four years in 1993/94. Latics defeated Derby County 2-1, Stoke City 1-0, Barnsley 1-0 and Bolton Wanderers 1-0 in the FA Cup before holding Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in the semi-final at Wembley: Jon Hallworth, Chris Makin, Neil Pointon (Steve Redmond), Nick Henry, Richard Jobson, Craig Fleming, Paul Bernard, Darren Beckford (Andy Ritchie), Graeme Sharp, Mike Milligan, Rick Holden. Latics lost 4-1 to 'double' chasing United in the replay at Maine Road and were relegated after failing to win any of their last eight matches.

REMEMBERING ERNIE If you look at the away end today, you will notice a flag adorned with the name of ‘Ernie Cooksey’. This flag is a replacement for the original flag which was stolen when Oldham Athletic fans were assaulted in Seville in 2009 at a Spain v England friendly. The replacement flag was purchased from donations made by Latics supporters. The original flag belonged to a group of Oldham fans, who had it made in memory of one of their former players, who died tragically in July 2008, just 28. Ernie turn pro with Oldham in 2003 and went on to play for Rochdale, Boston United and Grays Athletic. He died less than a month before the birth of his only child, after contracting Malignant Melanoma, a severe form of skin cancer which is diagnosed in over 8,000 people in the UK each year.

Harrogate Town's Academy side returned to action on Saturday 8th January, making the long trip to league leaders Lincoln. Town started brightly and in the first twenty minutes were the better team, but unfortunately the good work led to nothing as Lincoln went ahead against the run of play, through a deflected pass in the centre of the pitch which pierced through the Harrogate centre. Lincoln then went 2-0 ahead after a misplaced pass in the middle of the park led to Emmanuel Ilesanmi conceding a spot kick, having been adjudged to have fouled a Lincoln player, although the away side felt it was outside the box. Harvey Giles got a hand to the penalty but couldn’t push it away. More defensive frailties led to the Imps getting their third with the last kick of the half, sending Town in at the interval 3-0 down. It was a much better performance in the second half from Paul Stansfield's with Harrogate taking the game to Lincoln. In the 54th minute Finn

O’Boyle rattled in a great goal from 25 yards in the top corner with his weaker left foot to reduce the deficit. Then in the 62nd minute, Town won the ball in midfield through George Horbury who released Ilesanmi to finish nicely and narrow the gap to one goal. Harrogate pushed on for the equaliser, with most of the action taking place in Lincoln’s half, but the visitors couldn’t create an opening. The final whistle blew and signalled defeat, after another spirited display from this young group. Positives will be taken from the second half that will help prepare for the next game, which will be tough against a strong Bradford CIty side. report by Carey Huegett

Harrogate Town Ladies kicked off their first game of 2022 with a 3-3 draw against Hartlepool United Women, despite taking a 3-0 lead and putting on one of their best first half displays. There was a host of changes as unfortunately COVID was rife in the Town Ladies camp. This combined with injuries left us without eight first team players but fortunately, the morning's Reserve game had been called off which enabled three players to step up to the first team. Town started brightly and pinned Hartlepool back from kick off, creating numerous chances but were denied by the Pools keeper. That was until Emma Elliot latched on to a Shannon Beal pass and rifled the ball home to put Town 1-0 up. Town continued to pile on the pressure with Cass Lane a constant threat down the right-hand side, terrorising the opposition. After great build up play from back to front, Hannah Freibach and Teagan Sorokan linked up with Emma Elliot who released the ball out wide for Cass Lane to deliver an inch perfect cross into Hannah Freibach, who slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0. Town continued to dominate despite having to substitute the dangerous Cass Lane due to ill-health after 35 minutes and Hannah Freibach was incredibly unfortunate to have what looked a perfectly good goal ruled out just before half time. After half time, Town continued in the same manner, creating numerous chances before Emma Elliot made it 3-0 after an inch perfect Becky Wilson

corner. In the remaining 30 minutes, however, a combination of tired legs, substitutions and injuries led to a disastrous end to the game for Town allowing their 3-0 lead slip after what had been an extremely comfortable game. Full credit to Hartlepool who capitalised from a mistake at the back to pull one back and then earned a bit of fortune when a scuffed shot found its way to a player in the box who made it 3-2. Finally, in the dying moments of the game, Hartlepool equalised with a header to make it 3-3. Ultimately, despite the number of changes, Town should have won the game and ensured they took all three points…but that’s football for you! HARROGATE TOWN AFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME I 45

Giving Football Back to Small Business At eBay, we know small business and football clubs used to be like chips and gravy, two peas in a pod – a match made in community heaven. Ironmongers, ship workers, spring makers and cobblers, all formed clubs which decades later are still prospering. But nowadays, you’d think it was all eyewatering transfers, Super Leagues and mega sponsors, detached from the humble origins of our historic clubs.

That’s why eBay are proud to support 300,000 small businesses who help power EFL clubs nationwide. We’ll be donating our advertising space to a lot of these businesses – on match day hoardings, around grounds and beyond – throughout the coming season, to ensure they can continue to thrive in our local communities. So, join us in giving your support to Small Business Power, because today, they need us more than ever.
