COMPUTATIONAL AWARD - UCL, LONDON

EXHIBIT AT POMPIDOU CENTRE

7 /////////

The Project “Visual Dislocation aims to train a computational brain to navigate in the city based on Data and Design. This process unfolds in two phases. Exploratory and Conclusive. The environment in which we live in includes social and physical factors. In the first Exploratory phase, the design research explores different sets of datasets and urban layers that have an impact on the built environment. With comprehensive understanding, key layers/datasets are carried forward for Visuospatial Quantification. In the second Conclusive phase of design research, using the toolkit of the neural network, the interdependencies of datasets are established and executed, to simulate the built environment.

SOCIAL MEDIA ANALYSIS

The map demonstrates the impact of Social Media impressions on the catchment area of different landmarks in London. The map highlight the social dominance and the hashtags(#) used to create the same. It is quantified that the areas such as the Oxford Street and the Hyde Park have limited social media dominance. On the contrary, The Shard and the Battersea Power Station has a much higher social media dominance due to the height of these landmarks, as these landmarks can be seen from different parts of the city.

KEY ELEMENTS ARE QUANTIFIED FOR THEIR SPATIAL COMPOSITIONS

Google Street View API’s (Application Programming Interface) provides the best platform to extract the navigable information in the form of images as observed by the user. These images are examined for visual characteristics such as brightness, hue, saturation, dominant colour, lightness, displacement of colour, etc. Increase in the number of pictures refines the datasets and the information. Pictures when analysed in clusters, presents a comprehensive understanding of the environment. They are even studied for their spatial patterns.

7 IN 1 SCHOOL DESIGN COMPETITION Location : Riyadh, KSA Area : 200,000 sqmts Role : Concept + Detail Design Status: Ongoing (2020)

MASTERPLAN APPROACH: In keeping with the development of the early settlements along Wadi Hanifah, our planning approach for the MiSK School Campus master plan was to create a series of contemporary spaces that grow from the topography of the site, its close proximity to the Wadi C Park and influenced by the unique urban forms of the nearby UNESCO world heritage site. Like clusters of small communities connected by a common oasis the design and scale of the school buildings will create a versatile and inspiring learning environment for all ages.

SCHOOL WITHOUT BOUNDARIES : The key aim of designing with no boundaries has been applied to the design of the teaching spaces, blurring interior and exterior spaces, creating a seamless boundary between nature and the architecture and merging learning environments with the natural context. Allowing the outdoor area to become an extension of the indoor environment by removing physical barriers, encouraging outdoor teaching and interaction whilst aiding a paradigm shift in thinking expanding the area available to learning and encouraging new ways of thinking and sharing knowledge. Modularity of internal planning has been adopted in the architecture to achieve a combination of flexible, interchangeable spaces.

with carefully considered expanses of glazing creating pockets of light and ventilation in internal courtyards, providing an external learning environment in a lush oasis style outdoor setting.

The blurring of the formal line between inside and outside is also part of a holistic approach to energy efficiency, with the aim of promoting well-being and a healthy learning environment for students whilst reducing the school’s carbon footprint and improving running costs. The facades have been designed to promote external learning, walls are predominantly solid

The design proposes a similar architectural approach, creating a series of integrated communal outdoor space that includes intimate and nurturing spaces for the younger students to more open social spaces for the older age groups, provides protection from the elements and an attractive environment that encourages collaboration, innovation and the sharing of ideas.

LESSONS FROM PAST : Traditional Najd houses typically featured one or more courtyards which were private, secure and the focal area for the families to gather and socialise. The courtyards allowed direct access to an external private space, provided protection from the elements and maximised daylight and cross ventilation whilst minimising solar heat gain.

Located along the shores of Dubai’s iconic Creek the development of Al Seef is an exciting new cultural tourism space that merges the city’s past with its present. For this unique project it was essential that we first appreciated the extent and requirement of preserving and showcasing traditional Emirati architecture and local trades. The challenge was to design the buildings as if they had always been there withstanding the test of time through aging techniques and carefully calculated degradation percentages. Water marks, caulking and bulges in the edges all contribute to achieve this.

JUMERIAH LAKE TOWERS REDEVELOPMENT Location :DUBAI, UAE Status : Ongoing Role : Concept + Detail Design The proposed master plan combines three key components to create a holistic ‘Live, Work & Play’ environment. The Retail component forms the essence of the re-development by providing a unique mix of functional retail, family orientated F&B, licensed (adult) and children’s entertainment, including a four screen cinema complex as well as a public park with interactive water play areas. This component provides approximately 12,500sqm of lettable space. The Hotel & Serviced Apartment component – which offers a 100 key hotel with dedicated F&B and meeting spaces and 190 serviced apartments. The Office component – which provides for approximately 7000sqm open plan office space over 6 floors with two landscaped roof gardens accessible on the first floor. The fourth components, making up the ‘Live’ aspect are the existing residential towers surrounding the site. This demographic, combined with the residents from Lakes B, C & D will provide a huge benefit to the development, as well as to the overall enhanced JLT master plan, by providing an immediate footfall.

The Warsan development is a 91 Hectare (225 acre) mixed use master planned community. The masterplan emphasizes connectivity, open space, and a diverse land use to create a neighbourhood that promotes health and wellness. As per the townhouse brief the spaces and landscaping between thetownhouses were to promote adequate natural light, improved views from within the buildings and increase privacy for the residents. Various options were discussed and reviewed internally and in order to achieve the above requirements all townhouses were designed around a courtyard which would aim to improve the quality of the internal spaces.

‘Athenaeum’ a congregational entity where the multiplication of knowledge takes place with different Medias be it the palpable or impalpable like the papyrus books or the visual interaction similar to that of what we have in a museum. This will not only cater the architectural aspect but literary and scientific development of a pupil as well for the prosperity and promotion of the user. Withal to that it lodges the students who seek to regularize their knowledge for the fruitful culmination. The thesis is a mixed used project amalgamating: Museum, Institutional and commercial together serving for architecture under shared roof The very need of the social hub for architecture by architects would be fulfilled within the premises where the attainment of architecture would be dispatched through architects. With the meager resources yet cactus had been responsive to the brutal climate from hot dry to dry cold by having he fibred microscopic structures that retain water and food. While the outer shell of the building that appears random at the first glimpse is the enlarged digitization of the microscopic structure of the cactus due to which its been able to adapt assertively in the desert conditions and thus vehemently the western façade bears the not so soothing sun glares the denser opaqueness and minimum transparency that does not heat up the building.

The feeling of orientation is essential for our wellbeing. This section details out on how the spatial environments and navigation are experienced, learnt, structured and used. Navigation by the human cognition is the individual interaction with the environment via spatial activity (Eg. wayfinding). Understanding the rightfulness of the navigation revels the insights on how we comprehend spaces. There are three main theories explaining these interactions. 1. Landmark Learning 2. Route Learning 3. Configurational Learning

The charters that can guide the conservation work are: Venice Charter: The charter for the conservation and restoration of monuments and sites defi nes the object of conservation is • To prolong the life of cultural heritage and if possible, • To clarify the artistic and historical messages therein without the loss of authenticity and meaning. The grand residence of the President of India and the grounds and buildings attached to it comprise 130 hectares of land at the focal point of the monumental Central Axis at the heart of New Delhi. It was designed by Edwin Lutyens from 1912 to 1931. The buildings in the estate have consistent symmetry, proportion, vocabulary and materials.
